This? (108,851) by Shezz from Pk
Agreed. She sadly has been heading in this direction for a while. This is not her first bizarre interview. I don't think there is a single person on the board who thinks she should tour anymore. Clearly neither does she. But she will for the rest of the year because she's already signed up for all of them for whatever reasons best known to her. She swore after the Glitter debacle that she would always put herself first and take care of her wellbeing. I hope she holds herself to that. Neurological disorders only get worse with age not better. It seems like she has been in this slow medicated state for a year now as everyone's saying. I agree with everyone that she should stop touring and thus stop the press interviews but clearly that's not going to happen. I still stand by my opinion that her Mimi session was not bad or a misstep. It was nice to finally hear her sing after ages maybe because I never expected her to sound brilliant. It was an honest performance with flaws and all. Looking forward to the Barbra song now.

Is this really the cause of all the debate? Together with the Mimi Sessions? Hey, you all. This is Mariah nowadays. Haven't you noticed? I think some of you are blowing it out of proportion (not directed at anybody specifically, ok?).

However, I've said it before and I'm gonna say it again, I don't think she should be touring this year. Instead, she should just relax and work on the new album if she really wants to release it (and treats us with some performances like the Mimi Sessions just for our entertainment because, even though they are not the best in her career, but she shows real talent and musicality in them).

Mimi sessions (108,849) by Mirage_Nunez from America
I'll admit on first listen, I was a bit concerned that her voice sounds more exhausted than ever, but by time she got to Say Something I had an involuntary smile on my face, because she sound a bit more vibrant and I loved just hearing her pure voice with piano.

I watched again today with my earphones in and enjoyed it even more. Is it up there with MTV Unpugged 92? No, but still enjoyable in a more mellow calm way imo. I think we all already know what's going on with her (for the most part), she's come out about her vocal nodules (which makes her voice inconsistent), she's come out about bipolar disorder, we know she's dealt with distress, depression, trauma, heartbreak, loss, etc. Listen, I get it. It's hard to watch some of her recent performances because she looks just how everyone has described: sedated, barely moving her lips, etc. Honestly I find myself avoiding a lot of the live performances
or the comment sections nowadays, because of this. Ultimately I know we all just want her to be respected and revered as the Mariah we all fell in love with. However, we have to give her some grace and credit for giving us an honest performance with the Mimi Sessions, it wasn't overly engineered or dubbed, it was Mariah singing comfortably in her current voice: something she's been criticized for not doing in recent times. We can debate that it wasn't perfect or up to her prime standards, but it was a raw honest look at where she is today vocally. It's normal as fans that deeply love her to get down, maybe even depressed over her not shining as bright as she once did, but her legacy as one of the premier female artists of all time is cemented.

Of course, I'm always hopeful that we'll get one more undeniable era of Mariah at her best, but all I truly care about now is her inner peace and happiness. Praying we get our happy vibrant lively Mariah back.

Obviously medicated (108,848) by Tevin from USA
I agree. Though we will never know what's truly going on with MC, until she speaks out about it, I too am worried. Hopefully it's just a side effect of meds that will eventually wear off or she can changes dosages or meds (I'm no doctor). I remember when two close friends of mine had to go on meds for bipolar, when they were in them, they were completely different people. They acted much like this, drowsy, out of it, in a daze, not all there. Mariah we love you.

The difference is, you're just a mere mortal like the rest of us. Mariah has access to all kinds of resources that most people don't, especially when something isn't working the way it should. But what she really seems to be missing is a team of people who genuinely care, people who aren't afraid to be honest with her and help her see what might not be obvious to her, even if that means encouraging her to talk to her doctor.

She's been coming off as being heavily sedated for over a year now, so I don't think this has anything to do with Pat or her sister's passing. If she still had people like Benny Medina or Cindi Burger around, I don't think we'd be having this conversation. I remember when Cindi literally snatched the mike off her hand when she was going on a weird tangent before her breakdown. That's the kind of care and boldness she needs, people who love her more than they love their paycheck. People who won't hold back out of fear of being fired. She deserves to be surrounded by folks who will protect her, even if that means telling her something she doesn't want to hear.

I have no experience with such medication. But what you write sounds horrible. My mum had some pain killers who had sedated side effects too. It was scary and I was happy when she didn't need it anymore. A human soul and body takes time to heal, too much medication is not good.

I think it's really safe to say that she is using medication. I used to take some anti depression remedies and it really kinda "takes your soul out". It's necessary for the case, in terms of "you need it to get better" to a certain point and then maybe reduce or get rid of it when you get well but it really lets you on a deplorable state. You just go through life and the emotions like it's nothing. Mariah's last answer to the reporter when asked about what a popstar like Katy has to do when you get hate or something really tells it all. She said "don't pay attention and move on". I think she hasn't really stopped and thought about her situation: her voice, the lost of her family. It's like she just thinks "let's move on" and then she just goes through life.

What's wrong? (108,844) by Matthew from USA
I'm also feeling a bit concerned, but not for the reasons stated. Her vocal condition does not surprise me. Her voice is about where I expected it to be. My concern is over how sedated she is. Look, Mariah has never been the most animated performer, but there used to be little things like the hands.

She used to have this running joke where she would watch videos of herself and wonder what the heck she is doing with her hands. She would say that's why she can't play the piano, because she needs her hands to punctuate the verses. When the hands were doing their thing, you knew girlfriend was feeling it. Nowadays the hands stay by her side or they grip the mic stand.

Even in interviews, it all feels quite low energy. Not like she's out of it. Her wit, intelligence and humor are coming through, but it's like those emotions are trying to get through a wall of thick molasses. The smile is confusing as well. It's the same smile while she was watching Tori and Muni perform. Is she in pain? Is that a smile of happiness? Does she not want to be there? The smile seems artificial.

I know she is getting older, but 55 isn't that old. Even Patti can still give a little sass and energy while performing. But lately she seems turned all the way down. Muted. Sedated. That's what I'm worried about. Perhaps she needs to forego the bi-polar depressors until after her performances and then take them when she gets off the stage. But maybe that's too risky. I hope everything works out.

It's time (108,843) by Zachariah from Croatia
I think [it's time] to raise our concern like Britney fans did for her and speak out more loudly. The interview was very cringe to watch. We need to protect her and make sure she is doing the things she wants to do, or not to do and not be pressured by others.

I don't want, in the future, for her to have another number on hit or an album on number one position while she is lying in a grave (God forbid) and the whole world is [mourning] her departure from this world, like Whitney, Prince, Amy Winehouse.

It is an awful thing to write, but somebody had to do it.

This is not good news. I remember how it all started with the press in 2001. Mariah shouldn't risk another burn-out. And then all the touring. I'm worried too.

That's what some here don't get, our concerns come from a place of love. I don't want people to look at her like that and then shred her to pieces. We're her fans and want the best for her. She definitely deserves better friends, a better team. We as fans can only watch and hope for the best.

The return of the voice (108,837) by Terna from Nigeria
I am so worried about her. I think it's time we held her up in prayers (yes God is real, she's his child and prayers work). Something is going on behind the scenes, and I called it out last year that she was giving me Whitney vibes - it's like watching her headed for a train wreck. We all have love for this woman and in many ways, we express it differently, but I believe all from a place of concern. Now that means you care about her well-being not just as a regular casual listener on the outside. She said it best, we're her extended family (and family look out for each other). I believe this and that's why I didn't bring up the Mimi session, neither am I making any commentary on it, it was posted while I was typing my last message and I watched it and was heartbroken. There might be a side to this we're not seeing, and the voice is just a symptom or an indicator. Pray specifically for her well-being - physically, mentally, her safety. Back her up in prayers, after all that's all we can do.

Mariah comes across as absolutely exhausted - physically, emotionally, psychologically - in the interviews and on stage. I wonder sometimes if she just feels creatively stifled on the writing and recording side of things and maybe opts to do the tours instead because she's afraid of disappointing the fans. Or maybe she's overspending and knows that touring is the only way to keep the lifestyle she is used to? It also cannot be easy to cope with the end of her relationship with Bryan and the loss of her mom and sister within the same relative time frame. She also has a lot of people on payroll, and they have a vested interest in telling her "Yes, keep going" rather than "You need to stop and take care of yourself."

She definitely doesn't seem physically, emotionally or psychologically well right now. But she's obviously committed to more shows for the Mimi anniversary, and then there will, of course, be the annual holiday shows before long.

Yes, I'm also hungry for new music. I was surprised about the "Mimi sessions". It was honest. I wish we could get one more time lyrics like on the [Butterfly] album or [Charmbracelet]. I still think a jazz album would fit well plus some soulful grooves. But I also hope Mariah is okay. We all know it was too much the last year. Of course legends are only human, like someone has [already] written on this board. I hope Mariah will recover and feel good again. Happiness and health is all I want for her.

Exactly, if people can't see something is seriously wrong then they are blinded. Do we get to the point where like Whitney people were walking out of concerts while she was straining on stage to be who she once was. And we all know what happened after that. Mariah will want to go on stage, she will want to be an artist and she will still crave to be adored, all stars are the same in that respect, but [you're] right, I'm mad at the people around her saying yes yes yes and not being honest with her. Now we've got this video for the Australian fans (which I'm yet to watch) which reports of bizarre answers and behaviour. Are we now unfortunately seeing her unravel in the public eye.

We're not talking about how she wants to live, we're talking about her health decline and how as someone who's loved her for a long time are upset to see her like this. It is allowed, it's not hate, it's love for someone.

The real question (108,832) by Sasha from Nomansland
To me the real question is why does she put herself through this? She looks so bored, weary and unhappy on stage, same on interviews. Everything she does in public seems to cause her such pain, like she's trapped in her own personal hell. She doesn't have to do it, she owes nothing to the world. She has far enough money to just chill and relax, enjoy life, take care of herself and only does what she likes. She could write and produce for others and stay away from the spotlight and bad lightnings that bother her so much. I really don't understand the point if she can't find joy in it anymore.

She possibly had a stroke (108,831) by Bobby A from United States
I was almost in tears, Shezz. It was hard to watch MC sing in that state. I can't watch the Mimi Sessions again. And Daniel Moore was just playing away on piano knowing he could have said something 3 years ago. Live singing is not good for MC right now. I want the best for MC. I think a new album filled with all the studio magic, new technology and personal lyrics would make me so happy than her performing live. I just wonder, were the Mimi Sessions planned and created after the Lambs' reaction to the Asia shows?

Exactly. Well said, Randy. And for the record, I ain't no "yass queen". Not saying anyone is calling me that. Just stating that fact out loud. Yeah, was she stiff? Yes. Would I love her to move around, enjoying the moment? Yes. At the same time, I applaud the effort. I loved the arrangements. I loved seeing lesser known songs like Circles and Your Girl getting shown the spotlight.

If MC can create the Mimi Sessions, why can't she record an album for the Lambily? I want to hear new songs to hear what she sounds like in 2025 with new technology, engineering, and instrumentation. It would help us not be so critical and possibly give us better insight through her lyrics what being Mariah Carey is like right now. I want my Butterfly MC back who gave the Lambily new music and MC's story through her lyrics. We deserve a new album after seven years.
