I agree, we do not need another [Bye Bye] issue again. Especially since she already has a ballad coming out with Barbra. Mariah we need more uptemps.

Next single (109,243)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |

I know it's premature to talk about this but I have been hearing rumours that the next single is going to be a ballad type duet with Anderson .Paak. There are a few reasons I don't think that's a good idea.
- It's the TEOM cloning all over again which tanked E=MC2 and her future releases for trying to do the same format. I think her next single should still be another uptempo song. A fresh new sound like T-Dang. It's summer so let it be fun and something people can enjoy and feel uplifted. Some catchy lyrics, a strong chorus (Sabrina Carpenter dominated summer with her clever lyrics and choruses, the "I'm working late cos I'm a singer" or the catchy chorus of Espresso, or the digs in "Taste" and "Please Please Please" to name a few). So I think her next single should be uptempo and catchy. The general public is seemingly responding well to T-Dang not just lambs which is new and we need the GP to get success.
- I honestly think if she is releasing any collaborations as singles it should be high impact and high profile collaborators that can benefit her on the charts if she really wants those #1's stacking up. Also she is possibly in a relation with him and I think it'll be sweeter to keep it as an album track than an official single.
Those are my thoughts and 2 cents.

I am also very excited for the music video. Joseph Kahn is really teasing us. I read online that the earth shattering surprise would be JLo getting barred at the club entrance and then Mariah goes to the bouncer and says "I know her." Lol.

Mariah, on fire (109,215)

I loved the performance. I give it a 8/10. Personally I wished she threw on some flat shoes and moved more or do a little 2 step, but we'll take what we can get. Wow she looked amazing, and I'm sure Nick and Tanaka [were] kicking themselves after seeing what Mariah looked like while giving her acceptance speech.

Mariah, on fire (109,212)

Ok so BETs. Tell me why this woman looks like she's still in her early 30s. She looked absolutely breathtakingly stunning and every bit the mega star she is clad in that gorgeous gold mini dress fit for the music industry's golden girl. I liked that she was more playful with the performance, I do wish she wore more comfortable shoes so that she had the confidence to strut around by herself and strut onto the stage during the opening of the song it would have made it more fierce but I see her trying and I'll take it. I absolutely loved her second look too, she looked so angelic and pure and her speech was amazing. The little humor, her embracing her diva and extraness. This is a new Mariah era not just album wise but personally too. I also hear her team discounted the song right after BETs a smart move. I'm liking how her team is handling her so far. The roll out of this era has been amazing. I can't wait for the video.

No.1 in global iTunes (109,159)

I agree. I know Lambs and fans are used to seeing chart success within the first week or two, but we have to remember that this is the return of MC after 7 years. This first song may be a slow burner. Let's see if streams pick up after her BET performance. Other than some of the big names nowadays like Taylor, Beyonce, Sabrina, etc. a lot of songs take a while before they hit the charts. If you use Spotify there is a playlist called rising pop. I can't tell you how many times I've listened to a song for 6+ months or more before it makes its way to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Don't forget GTFO hit number one on iTunes as well but failed to chart. Streaming counts the most and her numbers there are still pretty low I read on another site. Though that in no way means they can't pick up. Right now the song is only hot with the lambs. It could eventually spread to the masses. So many songs creep their way up the charts as they gain a wider audience. First week numbers aren't everything.

New intel (109,134)
by Tevin from USA
| |

Thanks for the info. I also heard in her interview that she was recording the album while touring. I'm thinking this all makes sense why she was doing all the lip syncing in concert. Maybe she was obligated to go on tour but she knew it would be too taxing on her voice to sing and record at the same time. It also explains why she may have seemed so out of it. Think about it, mother's illness, then two tragic deaths, growling tour schedule, while recording an album and working on business deals to join an up and coming label. Plus parenthood, health and everything else. Man she was going through a lot. I can't wait to see the success of it all.

Here are a few new info we have: - The album is almost done - There will be collabs (please Lord some A list ones) - There's a "very good" duet with A .Paak - She is currently sequencing the track list - LA Reid asked to record one more song (deja vu TEOM) - There are visuals (Type Dangerous MV) - TD will be directed by Joseph Kahn. I hope they use his full potential. Joseph did some incredible work with Taylor.

Ikr. I don't want to hear anymore "she's happy to just be a legacy artist and focus on her family", nonsense. Dem baby's are grown, the voice is healed and she's ready to dethrone The Beatles and I'm here for it. Let's go Mariah. Hopefully she gets at least one if not two number one hits. Also everyone please don't be discouraged if this song doesn't hit number one (hopefully it does), just remember, ILT did decent but it didn't hit number one, but the next song after, well, you know, the rest is history.

I hope this shuts down people who think Mariah isn't chasing chart success anymore and is just making music for fun or for fans. Chart success is what has been driven into Mariah since she was a teen signed on to Sony. She doesn't know any different. She is rightfully proud of her chart accolades and I am happy to see her openly just say that she wants that 20th and 21st #1. I like the new vocal Mariah that isn't afraid to voice her mind.

Have you guys seen this? Mariah is making major moves. Long article, I broke it down so you don't have to: - Mariah Carey is teaming up with Larry Jackson's indie music company, Gamma, instead of a big record label. - She sees this as a way to control her story and create music on her own terms. - L.A. Reid will executive-produce her new album through his company, Mega. - They've signed a multi-album deal aiming to make music history. - Mariah's goal is to get her 20th number-one hit to tie The Beatles' record and then go beyond that. - The partnership was announced in June during Black Music Month to highlight its importance. - Reid says this is a win-win, with both Mariah and Larry working to stay fresh and relevant in today's music scene.
Mariah really looked at a $400 million company and said, "Okay let's get festive"? She's retiring as the greatest of all time lambily. This is so exciting. #1 to infinity indeed.

Type? Mariah (109,081)
by Tony Lorenzo from UK

Ecstatic. Fresh, original, yet quintessential Matiah, who is her own genre.
I've always preferred her hiphop/rnb joints to her ballads, and she's leant into the genre on steroids. Amazing music that features her silky voice but with no need to wrap them around overly difficult melismas etc. I've been saying forever that she should ditch balladeering and utilise her vocals on stuff like this, and jazz, club tracks. Her lyricism is too good to be held back by the need to be belting all the time, especially when that style of singing gets increasingly hard the longer you do it.
Her main strengths, even in the era of stuff like My All and her incredible ballads, was never her voice, which sounds absolutely crazy because she was unsurpassed vocally, with only one real peer in Whitney. It not being her main strength is not to denigrate her voice at all. It's just that her lyric writing, and her production skills are even better. Her song construction, her melody-writing, her wit... these things are what make Mariah Mariah. In some ways her vocals being so good have been responsible for her continued underrating. People focus on the vocals and high notes and miss the intricacy of her construction.
You don't lose those skills, they improve. Hence the need for new music, despite her vocals having reached their peak a while back. She can still sing but perhaps doesn't feel like she needs to fall back on the voice as much any more so she can hit us with bops for the club, which are always the best songs on any of her albums.
The chorus on this track is a slice of sonic bliss. Her rapping is perfect. The references are there.
Based on this track, I'm anticipating yet another major renaissance for her, akin to Emancipation. She should with the strength of this, if kept up, be able to clock another couple of chart toppers. 20 has the perfect ring to it. And wouldn't she deserve it? Imagine what a beautiful narrative for someone's career that would make? The industry chooses who to focus on and blow up, just like it chooses who to ignore, or finish off when its decided their time's up. Well Mariah is proving her time aint up. The music industry should support this rebirth. Let Mariah bask in icon status like she literally deserves. Because these young guns thinking she only sings about Christmas need to know why she was one of the top musicians stretching over three (at least) generations. She is timeless. I pray the radio supports based purely on its quality. I don't fully understand how best to market music these days, but radio stations should be bussin this out every day.
Yes there will be a cohort of old fans complaining it aint Hero Two.
I could not be more dare I say it proud, and excited, and happy with this track. It had better be the launch for the fully deserved renaissance. She did it before, she can do it again, so long as the industry plays fair.

Lambs have been crazy all day on X. I haven't seen Lambs this hyped since ILT and TEOM dropped 20 years ago. I have written down several things different about the start of this era. This is not GTFO or I Don't. Something feels different about Type Dangerous to start the new era.
1. MC took her time releasing new music despite pressure from Lambs for 4 years. 2. Anderson .Paak inspired MC in the studio. 3. For the first time ever, MC used a previous album to launch a new album. She was so clever with her date hint that we missed that a new era would be starting on that date. Genius MC. 4. MC took control of launching her new era instead of her new label. We found out three days later that gamma. is her new label from Lambs posting presaving Type Dangerous screenshots. I suspect a gamma. official annoucement will come tomorrow. 5. MC stepped out of her comfort zone for this era by working with new producers, songwriters, artists, and mending an old relationship with Walter A. This era doesn't feel like JD will be involved, but I wouldn't be mad if he had a couple of songs on MC16. However, I don't think we will hear "Y'all know what this is" on MC16. 6. This will be MC's first summer album release since her debut album. Just another reminder of a full circle era is starting tomorrow.

Stacey, I didn't have any side dishes ready, but I do have some tea today. Type: Dangerous samples Eric B. Is President and possibly Dennis Edward's Don't Look Any Further. I suspect that Anderson .Paak produced T:D because he loves to use 70s and 80s samples. MC said at her Mimi anniversary Spotify listening party yesterday that "We will know a whole lot of things on June 6th." She is one of the Ultimate Icon honorees at the BET Awards on June 9th. Also, she will be performing as well. It is going around on the web that MC has signed a distribution deal with Atlantic Records. Finally, Kristofer Buckle replied to a fan yesterday on his Instagram account about MC16 and he said, "It's worth the wait." I guess Anderson .Paak probably said to MC let's create some new music and get your album completed.

Music Box vs Daydream (108,933)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Lyrically, I prefer Daydream, but vocally, Music Box reigns supreme in my book. While her voice on Daydream was like pure butter, smooth, nuanced, and mature, on Music Box, it was fuller, more powerful and with a richness difficult to match. Mariah Carey, Music Box, and Merry Christmas are the only albums where Mariah came closest to matching Whitney’s level of resonance and vocal power.
Daydream still featured incredible vocals, strong, expressive, and technically refined, but it leaned more into buttery tone and artistic subtlety rather than sheer vocal force. As an overall body of work, Daydream was more mature and creatively sophisticated than Music Box, but vocally, Music Box was a powerhouse.
As much as I love myself some Music Box, Daydream is the better album in my humble opinion.

I actually believe the human singing voice is perfected through Mariah. She can quite literally do everything and more. God was like: "She's just gonna sound out of this world, in every register, and her songwriting will blow everyone out of the water, oh and I'll put her in charge of my holiday." Her voice is a literal gift from the heavens above but it also came with a bit of a curse. Mariah has nodules. Her ability to whistle eventually worsened her nodules. Her voice was the money maker, because she was poor and is deeply afraid of the rug being pulled from under her. She worked her voice to the extremes. Songwriting also happen to make bank in royalties so she went crazy hard on that too. She simply overworked her gifts. End end. These nose jobs and alcoholism theories sound so elementary. No other singer will have a similar decline diagnoses because Mariah is simply built different. A cut above the rest.

If you're going to be a "Yass Queen", at least own it with pride. Facts don't care about your feelings, they remain facts, whether you like them or not. And clearly, for some of you, the truth is like kryptonite.
It's well documented that Mariah Carey indulged in heavy drinking, especially around the time leading up to the release of Butterfly. Her voice was never quite the same afterward. She's been drunk in public many times, so it's not like she had a secret. While it may not have been his place to speak on it, even her brother mentioned that she was drinking while on her bipolar meds. Eminem, in his track The Warning, didn't hold back either, outright calling her an alcoholic. Say what you want, but the receipts have been there for a long time.
And as much as I love Mariah, with the state of her voice today, she wouldn't even make it to audition in front of the judges on American Idol. Her voice is completely shot. But of course, in La La Land, she's still "slaying". Reality, however, paints a very different picture.

I feel like it perfectly blends the commercial success and pop appeal of MB and the artistry of Butterfly. It's perfection. Rounding out my top three would be: 2. Butterfly 3.TEOM

Am I the only one who likes Music Box better than Daydream?
