Super Bowl (110,829)
by Giovanni from USA
| |
|
|
I'm a no on Mariah doing a Super Bowl performance. I just think she's past her prime and I don't know if she could deliver vocally. I think it would be a risk and any mess up would just be more ammo for haters. We're still recovering from that disastrous New Year's Eve performance so the last thing Mariah needs is negative coverage of a bad performance. Let Taylor Swift do it.

MC back in the studio (110,828)

Nostradamus posted today that MC is recording new songs for the HFIA deluxe edition and working on remixing every song with some collaborators who have said yes already and are on board for the remix album. I guess there won't be any Christmas shows because MC will be recording in the studio October-December.

I do hope Mariah has a hit on her hands but if she doesn't that's okay. For me she has more than enough but how awesome would it be if she did get herself a 20th number one. I do believe "HFIA" will be a good album regardless. The song titles are very interesting especially "Play this song". I also hear the music in background for "Mi" and it sounds so good.

Shezz, this is great news. Surely, some JD remixes and new songs are on the way. MC's surprise studio picture looks like JD's So So Def studio. I really feel now that no more singles will be released until after the album drops. I am saying this because the way MC revealed the tracklist in such a social media strategy way to build anticipation with the song titles and lyric two liners. I believe Gamma wants multiple songs to "album bomb" on the Hot 100 like Morgan Wallen's I'm the Problem did in May. It will probably happen with Mi, Play This Song, Confetti and Champagne, I Won't Allow It, My Love, Jesus Do It, Here For It All, and In My Feelings. People are talking about these songs the most in social media comments. I believe it will happen for her HFIA. 2010 is when streaming numbers were allowed in the calculation equation for the Hot 100.

I noticed that Amazon started giving after album release shipping dates for about two years now to keep shipping arrival complaints to a minimal. The CD's are coming from the U.S. Our postal system is so unpredictable right now since our postal system started a new process of sending mail to regional distribution procesing centers in major cities. It is there packages are sorted and mailed out to its destination. I know this because I spent way too much time holding on the USPS customer service line and this the answer I received about my Ebay package being late. You will probably receive your package on the release date or a day or two after the 26th.

I've noticed my preorder on UK Amazon won't arrive until 6th October. I wonder if all CD's produced are coming from the USA? I've preordered on iTunes too but thought it was a bit odd not getting the physical copy on the day it's released, they normally send them out early to ensure this.

Bobby A. rumor has it she's adding songs for the deluxe version with some remixes possibly including a Sza collaboration based on the love she's been showing MC on social media with heavy hints.
I wish a Sza collaboration could've made the original album. Better late than never but I just hope it's not dropped if HFIA doesn't perform as well as she wanted it to initially.

Release and promote Sugar Sweet album version (solo) (110,820)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

From the album tracklist I'm sure the song is Mariah's solo version. So now that we have about less than 1 month from the album release, might be good idea to release the album version with a proper video on the beach with her and her male dancers (shirtless) doing choreographer. We all know Mariah doesn't want anymore female dancers. For that VMA performance, Mariah should be doing medley of Type Dangerous/Sugar Sweet/Here For It All. Imagine the climax ending of the performance where Mariah belt the "here for it all" and the music stop to make it like acapella. We don't need her hits medley because it won't sound good. Refer her medley at Billboard Awards 2019. That medley performance should be deleted. She was shaky and crack and nervous. Come on Mariah and Gamma. Do it right this time. This would be her last album and her next album would definitely be in 2035. Most of all here won't be here for it all anymore.

What's worse is there has only been one music video in almost five months. That is so not like Mariah. I hope she wasn't forced into releasing an album before she is ready to really undertake the amount of promotion it takes. I've been seeing that Amazon pre-orders is currently only at 1,200 albums pre-sold in the USA. Add the 5,000 that it will due on iTunes and that is going to be a very low first week debut. A hit song sells an album, and unfortunately she doesn't have that. Word of mouth will be an uphill battle for her, the only hope is the MTV VMA's turns it all around for her. I hope everyone is taking a second out of their day to vote for Mariah and Type Dangerous on MTV.com for the VMA's. That second award could go a long way in helping her get the word out about upcoming music.

I don't blame Stella or Nick for dips in her success but they're not my favorite. I feel like MC was heartbroken because of Nick and after watching the E reality show a few times I don't think Stella was a good influence or had the best intentions for her. I don't think they were the best for her personal life.

I've never liked the constant blame game, it's always someone else's fault but Mariah's. Framing a powerful, intelligent, and successful woman as if she's perpetually helpless is just another way of infantilizing her. Mariah has been steering her career for decades now. An artist in "shackles" wouldn't have been allowed to put out a video openly mocking her label's head like that.
Yes, Tommy was controlling and evil at some point, but she also built a thriving career and life beyond him. Mariah has always been an active participant in her own story, it's not as if Nick and Stella just happened to her. Even when she was only 19, she was making choices, and now at 56, with years of experience and every tool at her disposal, she continues to do so. The woman have human walking sticks for heaven sake.
All of her life's lessons have shaped her into the woman she is today: an icon, not a victim. So, however this show plays out, good or bad, she's part of it.

It would be funny if it was another song of the decade for her. It's been #1 for the last six years. We just gotta keep the momentum going for four more years. I don't know how that works, though, (song of the decade) but that would be neat if it was her third one.

Rick Fox* who also used to be married to Vanessa Williams (the 1st AA Miss America). There were always dudes shooting their shots at MC. Whether it was Tupac, Matt Dillon or random clowns - like the thirsty one she chose to marry on a whim. I have very little faith Rick would have been a better husband to Mariah than he was to his first wife. But he wouldn't have treated her any worse either.
*I'm so impressed by the fact Webmaster Eric has kept the MCA brand so intact for almost 3 decades that it's nearly impossible not to end up being directed back here whenever I wanna verify or check my Mariahpedia memory.

I'm reading the memoir, and she's talking about her love story with Nick: "We talked about life and music. I just wanted to be around him. Once, I even left a date with a very handsome and legendary basketball player to ride in the car with Nick so he could be the first to listen to my newest album, E=MC²."
My fellow lambily sleuths, who was this handsome and legendary basketball player? And why the hell didn't he try harder? Why did Mariah pass him up? Love could've turned out so much better for MC.

They are different. Butterfly is more artistic, and Daydream is very commercial and in the moment. Art and commerce don't have the same criteria in comparison. They're just different.
Personally I listen to them depending on my mood. If I'm home and contemplating, I listen to Butterfly. If I'm in the park or doing my groceries, I listen to Daydream.

I honestly think that "Butterfly" is superior to "Daydream" as an artistic effort. I wish "Butterfly" had been recognized at the 1998 Grammys in the categories where she was nominated. The songwriting and production are just better than on "Daydream" and she approached the vocals with more restraint. Rich Juzwiak's review of the album for Slant Magazine really encapsulates why "Butterfly" is her best album. The hip-hop elements were incorporated in a very classy manner and were not overdone like they were for some songs on "Rainbow" and "Glitter."
I think "One Sweet Day" deserved to win something, but Seal's "Kiss From a Rose" was also a really great song from that year. It was a little strange to award Best Pop Album to "Turbulent Indigo" by Joni Mitchell - I have that album and it is not one of Joni Mitchell's best. She lost best female pop vocal performance to Annie Lennox's "No More I Love You's", which is kind of silly too. "Fantasy" is definitely a better record than that one. She lost best female R&B vocal performance to Anita Baker and Album of the Year to Alanis Morissette. There was a lot of competition for Mariah from all directions, but I do agree she should have won something considering she was nominated for so many and considering how successful the album was.
Maybe she would have won some awards at the 1996 Grammys if "Daydream" had been released a little earlier in 1995? "One Sweet Day" and "Always Be My Baby" did not really catch on as hits until 1996, so they may not have had enough exposure by the time of the award ceremony.

Wise words Bill. Yes a lot of the time artists blame their record companies for the lack of sales, promotion etc when in truth it's mainly down to the artist themselves and their direction. Mariah was less popular after Butterfly for moving away from core audience. That's not to say her work wasn't good, it just wasn't as popular.

I think we all agree Mariah deserved some acknowledgement that night, due to it being the pinnacle of her career. But there's no point us still being bitter about a 30 year old event and still blaming Tommy, who had nothing to do with how that night unfolded. All it did was make Mariah realise she didn't need him.
Mariah was still supported massively by Sony during the separation and after the divorce. I mean look at the budget the Heartbreaker video had. The videos, the tours, the non-stop global promotion. The issue was Mariah moved away from the adult contemporary audience that she curated during the beginning of her career, so her sales dipped, and she blamed the label (like Michael Jackson did). Rainbow was not Daydream. Invincible was not Thriller.
