Looking at the sales of her last two albums, there simply aren't enough of us to make a meaningful dent in her overall streaming numbers. The reality is that 90% of the people streaming AIWFCIY are fans of the song, not Lambs. I applaud you for always being positive, but sometimes you need to be realistic. Mariah just isn't that popular anymore, and on top of that, she's become largely unrelatable to the general public. We need to stop blaming Gamma and other external factors for the lack of success of her recent projects. Outside of what's left of her core fanbase, the general public doesn't seem particularly interested in what she has to offer. Her music has also started to feel stagnant, and she seems increasingly reluctant to take a genuine leap of faith and try something completely new. Mariah once had the Midas touch that Taylor Swift has now, and that's well and good. But if she wants to be commercially successful again, she needs to find a way to connect with a new generation, reinvent herself musically, and deliver something genuinely fresh. HFIA has some gems that could have been hits in the hands of Ariana or Taylor, it's not only about the music but also the artist. So no, I don't think streaming campaigns alone are going to solve the problem. The problem is not the wrong singles, a lack of promotion, but simply a public that no longer cares enough to tune in, there's only so much fans can do. There were rumors that it would come out in late 2026, but it probably got pushed back to make room for the Glitter anniversary and whatever plans she has for this holiday season. Darlene Love would probably not be happy about that, but I actually think Mariah's version is more appealing. It would be nice to have a change from the focus on "All I Want for Christmas is You". Mariah might be able to pull off a few more US #1 singles with this kind of strategy. I think she deserves it considering she's had four songs peak at #2 (Can't Let Go, Endless Love, Loverboy, Shake It Off) and barely miss #1. And it might even work with a non-holiday song. "Anytime You Need A Friend" is one of her best songs ever, and the "Music Box" album is arguably what established her as a truly international phenomenon. Some of the songs are so-so ("All I've Ever Wanted", "I've Been Thinking About You"), and I think it was a mistake to leave "Workin' Hard", "Everything Fades Away" and "Do You Think of Me" off the final version. But overall, I enjoy this period of Mariah's career and think a lot of R&B/Soul artists were taking an "adult contemporary" direction at that time. Mariah was hardly alone in it, and I think it was unfair that she was criticized for it. "Music Box" also produced "Hero", which was at one time considered to be Mariah's signature song rather than "All I Want for Christmas is You." The ways that music is consumed have changed a lot since "One Sweet Day" set that record in the mid-1990s, but OSD certainly held that record for a very long time. And it achieved the record by being both a radio airplay hit and a success as a commercially released CD single. Some of these changes have been for the better and some for the worse. I personally like streaming because it is more portable/minimalist and doesn't create so much waste in terms of physical materials, though I'm sure the data centers are using up a lot of energy. "One Sweet Day" held the record for 23 years, 4 months and 13 days. It took Mariah 6 years and 5 months to reclaim it, and now, just 8 months and 19 days later, it's broken again. I don't know if you see the trend here. I wouldn't have minded if "Despacito", a worldwide phenomenon, or "A Bar Song (Tipsy)", which was absolutely everywhere in the US, had taken the record. But "Old Town Road" and "Choosin' Texas"? Nah. Sorry. I've always followed the charts, but this is getting so frustrating that I'm probably going to stop paying so much attention. There was such a huge shift between her performances in 2019/20 and when she started up again in 2022. She seemed genuinely energized during the Caution Tour in 2019, The Butterfly Returns residency from 2018-20, and the holiday shows during those years. It felt like she was recovering from those awful 2014-17 Stella years and getting back on track. But now she's lip syncing nearly the entire show and has this pained/detached look on her face so much of the time. She just really seems unhappy, and things appeared this way even before her mom and sister died. I would rather that she not perform at all if it makes her miserable. I think Nothing Is Impossible, In Your Feelings and I Won't Allow It could be hits to the masses. My Love has grown on me, although the Whoa Whoa Whoa Whoa sounds silly and child band of the 70s to me. I still love this album more than Caution with its burdensome second half or the frosted garbage known as MIAMTEC. But when you have so many almost flawless albums Butterfly, Daydream, Rainbow, Memoirs, Music Box, and Mariah Carey, Here For It All is sort of middle of the pack. I think Mariah needs to relearn first single etiquette. Because after Oh Santa, I haven't agreed with any of the first singles. MIAMTEC had three. And all of them were boring in my opinion. YDKWTD would've been a winner. Caution should have had A No No first. Same video and paid Cardi and Lil Kim whatever they wanted to be involved. However, I do like GTFO and with the right trend on TikTok, I could see that going to #1.
