Super Bowl (110,855) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Ya no Superbowl for Mariah. Her perfect opportunity would have been during TEOM era when she was feeling herself and on fire. But now she wouldn't have the stage presence to command such a huge stage. She definitely has the set list to perform but I don't think it's a pressure she wants or needs right now.

O Holy Night? Maybe the Celine version, but Mariah's? I would never put that one in the box of ballads. Except that the list is OG approved.

Super Bowl (110,853) by Lambi from USA
I was wondering about that, why basically everyone lip-synced on TOTP. Was it a prerequisite or something? Apparently, when the show started in 1964, the British Musicians' Union had strict rules about live performances on television. To avoid conflicts over performance rights and royalties, the show used pre-recorded backing tracks, and artists mimed along.

But yeah, Mariah did lip-sync during her "prime" years. I remember one of the Open Arms performances was mimed in Europe, probably because of jet lag. That would've been an exception though, not the rule. She worked hard on her voice and took pride in singing concerts fully live until '96, which is why she was so offended when Howard Stern accused her of lip-syncing.

I'll limit this to two per album:

Vision of Love
Vanishing
And You Don't Remember
Till the End of Time
Anytime You Need a Friend
Everything Fades Away
O Holy Night
Miss You Most (at Christmas Time)
Open Arms
Looking In
My All
Whenever You Call
After Tonight
Petals

That'll do for now. Keeping it to the OG Sony run.

One week left for voting Mariah's Type Dangerous for VMA (110,850) by T from USA
It''s down to one week guys. Can she top Sza and the Weeknd and win her first Moon Man of her career? Keep voting daily, and remember at 1pm (USA EST time) you get double the votes. Let's bring it home for the Era of Mi.

Mariah started lip syncing in 1994, towards the end of the year. The first I can remember is Without You at a Christmas special of Top of the Pops, then it was just downhill from that point on.

ODB passed away in 2004 sweetheart.

[Webmaster: They were fantasizing about Mariah performing at the SuperBowl in 1996. ODB was still alive.]

I love it. We should bring Brandy, ODB and TLC as starring guests. Full on 90's galore.

MC the GOAT (110,845) by Lambi from USA
Daydream is like that hopeless romantic Christian girl who's all about crushes, horses, going to the river, bon fires, game nights and reading her Bible. She's bubbly, adventurous, pure and plays it safe.

Butterfly is that same girl, but it's Friday night and she just turned 21 so she wants to go to the club. She still believes, still prays, but she's letting loose a little. She's trying to have some edge. However though, it's ultimately the same girl, just a different vibe.

Did you know that Hero wasn't even submitted until '95? That's crazy to me. I think after the savage '96 snub, she really stopped putting any faith in the Grammys. And I agree, Always Be My Baby brought something new to the table and definitely deserved recognition.

It's also wild to me that Mariah didn't submit Music Box for AOTY in '94, especially since it was her best-selling album at the time. But maybe it was because she kept losing in '92 and '93. I still can't fathom how Emotions lost Best Pop Vocal Performance. It's literally the hardest song to sing in history.

She already knew the Grammys lacked integrity pretty early on. And she was younger, so she was probably more sensitive to it. The board seems like they resent commercial success, which is probably why Mariah didn't bother submitting some of her best work. "You keep your awards, I'll keep my millions."

Absolutely. Please no Superbowl gig. There are many other possible gigs out there that would be less stressful.

1996 Superbowl setlist
1. Fantasy intro/Fantasy ODB remix
2. Dreamlover - Theo's Joint Club Mix
3. Always Be My Baby
4. Emotions/Make It Happen C&C Club mash-up
5. There's Got To Be Way - 12 inch remix/Anytime You Need A Friend - Ministry of Sound Mix mash-up
6. Someday - New 12" Jack Swing/I Want Her - Keith Sweat sample - new lyrics and adlibs over the sample

A Superbowl set is normally 13-14 minutes, but Tommy and Columbia Records pay the NFL for an additional 15 minutes.

Wait, imagine Mariah actually booked Super Bowl in '96 when she still refused to lip sync. My goodness, she would've slept for 72 hours and completely crush it. Imagine the vocal prowess? This is hypothetical by the way, it wouldn't be realistic since she was still way too new to get this gig, but just for fun. With the hits she had at the time. What should be on her Super Bowl set list?

Thank you Baby. I stalked him. He is definitely better looking than Nick. Him and Mariah’s offspring would’ve taken over all of Hollywood. But Nick probably had an edge over him with his sense of humor which ultimately won Mariah. Appreciate the deep dive, lamb. I can now sleep well. LMAO.

I think it just dawned on her that an 11-track album after 7 years won't cut it. It's been too long, 14 tracks would be fine.

Mariah Carey medley live on American Idol 2013 (110,836) by Dove from United States
I just rewatched it and actually it wasn't as bad as I remembered it. Maybe that's not the one I was thinking of. But my point still stands that the number ones deserve a break.

Super Bowl (110,835) by Dove from United States
If it's going to be bad, I don't want it either. But if they're going to put thought and effort into it, it could be huge for her career. Not everyone is invited to play at the Super Bowl.

What comes to mind is the medley she did when she was a judge on American Idol. It wasn't good. But those songs are old and she can't sing them anymore. Maybe if she did some of her newer, up-beat songs it would sound better. She looks really good right now, so that's half the battle for a woman in show business. It's only like 15 minutes. I think they can swing it. It would have to be a group effort though.

I like these songs. (But for Fantasy just the sample of Genius of Love and the background singers can sing the chorus before it jumps to the next song. That one is only added in for the nostalgia.)

Migrate
Obsessed
Stay Long Love You
Money ($*/...)
I'll Be Loving You Long Time
Fantasy
Stay The Night
Make It Look Good
Boy (I Need You)
Dedicated
Type: Dangerous

Maybe they could get the person who did The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil show and album to do the mix and blending of the songs. (I just looked it up and George Martin passed in 2016, but maybe someone on par with him. )

If the background music and show sounds good, and it's entertaining to watch, she wouldn't need to dance. Not that anyone expects her to.

If it's going to be a lazy effort with the same old slow songs we've already seen a million times, then yeah, Taylor Swift should definitely do it. Taylor Swift is going to end up doing it eventually anyway.

Or possibly cooking another radio friendly single? Kind of like how she did with DFAU but way earlier. She's probably scrambling and realizing HFIA needs something bigger. Mariah is prolific so I have no doubts she can tap this out quick.

Agree. Had this been '96 Tokyo Dome Emotions Mariah, it would've been perfect. She could be a guest star though, like that short number moment with Latto in BET. But Mariah being lazy for a 15 minute set, in front of all of America, on the most watched live TV event, on the biggest gig a star could possibly get, is a no no. However, I don't think there's any leg to this. Even Mariah said herself, "I don't want a stressful moment."
