Re: Article: Mariah Carey shares kitchen selfie holding two kettles (93,743) (93,747) by Bill from the UK
Well I'd respectfully challenge that and say there are a plethora of pictures from the pre-divorce years (both first and second) where she is tilting her head. Meaning, when she was a lot younger and weight maintenance wasn't an issue like it is for us oldies. I think it's either how she was coaxed to pose back when she starting having professional photographs taken, or she genuinely believes she looks good. Who hasn't re-taken a selfie or begged a friend to delete a picture taken because you thought you looked awful? And when the rubber hits the road, she's tilting her head. I mean there are worse things she could do surely.

Let me translate and make briefer your post: Whereas J.Lo and Jennifer Aniston work hard to look good, Mariah is lazy so relies upon weird head tilts (that make her look like she's standing on a magnet with one earring in).

Nothing disputed there. But the fact that she has not succumbed to elective surgeries that have drastically altered her face does not excuse the laziness and weird head tilting. It's a bit ad absurdum to invoke a kind of moral relativism along the lines of "I did punch someone which is bad, but I didn't kill them, so it's less bad than you originally thought".

For the life of me I don't understand why she just doesn't work out and eat well. She has a gym in her house and her boyfriend could probably train her with his eyes closed. But if not, please Mariah, just either stop standing on the magnet, or take the earring out. You look, as we would say in England, daft.

If the last decade has taught us anything, it's that the only reason for Mariah to be motivated enough to slim down is if she's gearing up for an album release or a major, prolonged TV gig. In between those, she does anything she wants. At her age, it's more challenging for her to maintain a trimmer figure, and since she doesn't have the drive and discipline to focus on her fitness ala J.Lo or Jennifer Aniston, she's left with no choice but to rely on fad diets, contouring, posing in weird angles and other ways to achieve the illusion of a slimmer profile in photos. After all, those are much easier than physical activities, which we all know are a chore for her. Whatever works for her, I guess. Despite her weight struggles, she still looks healthy, has great skin and hair, and despite any other enhancements and procedures she undergoes, I'm glad she still hasn't fallen victim to the worst beauty trends in recent years - the overly botoxed look (as evinced by abnormally prominent cheekbones) and unnecessary lip fillers (the unnaturally perpetual bee-stung look) that younger artists have been doing lately such as Jessica Simpson and Christina Aguilera, respectively.

Unforgettable (Mariah Carey version) (93,744) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Been listening to this in the sun all morning and I do agree this should have been on Caution - perhaps after GTFO and before With You. I am a tad annoyed by it though (when I am ever not?): Mariah is not in it nearly enough as she should be.

Re: Article: Mariah Carey shares kitchen selfie holding two kettles (93,742) (93,743) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
If the head tilt "works"? It depends what you think "working" is? What does it achieve? We know that in almost every photo for three years people around her are facing the camera and Mariah has her head lolling to one side like she's had a stroke. So what does it achieve? If the suggestion is it's because of the supposed "good" side of her face then that's not really arguable. She never used to do it and in many of the photos she is facing right side on so there is no need. It is clearly to stretch out the double chin. So what's better? To have a bit of a chin in photos? Or to rotate your head until you look like Upside-down Face from Family Guy? Or is it secret option number 3? Lose weight and hold your head up like a human being? I think the answer here is a tad too obvious.

Yes I tend to agree. When a picture is taken of Mariah Carey, it's there forever. It's not like you and me where we can delete them or rip them up (for those of us that remember physical photographs). If the head tilt works then tilt that head beeyotch.

I'm not sure if it's a weight thing. But she definitely thinks she looks the best from that angle. I remember her saying a lot about her "good side" and "bad side" when taking photos, and also the lighting. I guess everyone wants to look good in any photos they are in. A little odd, but I get it. Whatever makes her feel good. She's beautiful regardless of the angle.

Never Have I Ever (93,740) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Mariah is mentioned in the new Netflix programme Never Have I Ever trailer. Girl tries to hit on a boy and says "You smell great today." "It's Forever by Mariah Carey," replies the obviously gay boy. It was actually quite funny.

Re: Article: Mariah Carey shares kitchen selfie holding two kettles (93,738) (93,739) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
It's obviously not a selfie and judging from the angle it was taken by Tanaka. It appears to be staged. Her make-up is so heavy and her nails are perfect. Does somebody in quarantine for a month really go to all this effort? Also the photo is irritating for the main reason that all Mariah photos are irritating post 2017: the head tilt. I think I would rather lose weight than have every photo of me with my face at a 90 degree angle. Even in photos of Mariah with other people she does it. Does she look at these images later and think, "Wow this head tilting thing really looks good"? If it were a toss up between losing weight and looking like I was trying to bite my left ear off in every photo I think I would just lose weight. Or accept being overweight and forget about it. The head tilt thing is actually weird. No, it's beyond weird. Just one person tell me it looks normal/good with substantial reasoning.

Is it a selfie if someone else took the picture? Don't like the picture, but that's my opinion.

What a great post Nick. I completely agree with everything you wrote. "I hope she stays classy as her younger self, with the confidence of her older self. Those two Mariahs combined can make her still the best until the end of time." So true.

Re: Listening to Glitter (93,716) (93,735) by Nick from Belgium
You have a very good point Joachim. An sich was Glitter (the album) not that bad. The songs by itself were also fine, maybe as in whole not that cohesive as the Daydream album (which is my all time favorite).

Here in Belgium she was never that popular by the public opinion. She get lots of disrespect by her reputation and her (too) sexy/trashy clothing style. I remember when it was 2001 and Loverboy came out. The video was few times a day on the popular tv-channels like MTV. It was embarrassing to watch, especially when my parents walked in the room. It was indeed way too sexy or as you said it: trashy. This was not the classy Mariah we knew. Honey and The Roof were a perfect example of a decent sexy Mariah. But the "girl-next-door" look from the Daydream era is my favorite.

Mariah didn't need to be "sexy to sell", she had proven the past decade more times that you can sell music without showing her body. I know that she wasn't allowed by Tommy Mottola, but the point is that it worked like that. It's the voice that counts, not the looks. The best promotional line from the comeback campagne in 2005 was: "The return of the voice" with her silhouet above it. That worked perfectly.

And for last: look at her live show in the early until middle '90s and you see what I mean. Just Mariah, a live band, backing vocals and sometimes a choir. It was heaven. Only music and her voice. The audience at that time were the luckiest fans of Mariah in my honest opinion. Her shows were perfect like that.

It's perfectly fine to reinvent yourself to maintain relevant, but she didn't do it always right. I hope she stays classy as her younger self, with the confidence of her older self. Those two Mariahs combined can make her still the best until the end of time.

In this picture she looks like her younger self, like in the "Music Box" era. Classic Mariah.

Allure and more (93,733) by Billy from Greece
First things first, "The Wind" is gorgeous. The meticulousness of her delivery is astounding, without being gratuitous or blasé. Second, I'm obsessed with Allure's "All Cried Out" and "Last Chance". The magic of Mariah's musicality at the point was the ambiance that she could create with the harmonies, instrumentals and structure of her songs, both of her solo discography and in side projects such as this (or Babyface's "Everytime I Close My Eyes", or 7Mile's "After"). It's too bad her creative relationship with Mark C. Rooney went south because together they created a sound that fit her like a glove (as shown also on the Butterfly tracks he co-produced). Too bad he chose the cheap way to go. Coming back to "Last Chance", this is actually the perfect transitional Mariah ballad between "Daydream" and "Butterfly". It could fit into either album as hidden track for instance. It's amazing how the tiny parts of her melismas and backgrounds steal the show everytime.

I don't like "The Wind" either. I think "Til The End Of Time" is a perfect closer. I pretend that "The Wind" is a bonus track lol. On another note, I always wanted "To Be Around You" to be a single and was pleasantly surprised when singer Lovari put out a remake of it a few years ago with remixes.

Re: Emotions album (93,724) (93,730) by Licia from USA
When I listened to The Wind that one time it was super sad and depressed me. I was 13 or 14 years old when Emotions came out so maybe my age and hormones at that time played a huge factor in why I couldn't take that song. I have been trying to force myself for years to revisit the song, but I won't do it. It's so weird that after all these years I won't go near The Wind but I listen to sad and depressing songs all the time. Lol.

Re: Emotions album (93,728) (93,729) by Edward from USA
I love "The Wind", but it is one of those songs you play when you're in a certain mood because it is sad. I usually play it followed by "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan and "Fields of Gold" by Eva Cassidy. It's hard to believe a 20-year old Mariah is singing that song.

I also love "the Wind" and recommend it. Please try it again Licia. When I listened to Emotions for the first time I didn't like it too. For me it just didn't sound like a "Mariah song". But since quite a long time I started to love the song. I love her jazz voice, the lyrics and the whole instrumental. But it's true it's not easy to listen to for every day. A little depressing because of the "theme", but "The Wind" is really such a great and emotional song. That Mariah was able to sing it like she did at such a young age makes it even more precious.

Haha. Oh Licia. I was confident you'd "get" The Roof when you gave it another shot not that long ago, but alas, it wasn't to be. Would you try The Wind again? She sings it so softly and gently, and it's so moving and sad. I love the jazz vibe, and why she's never done anything like it since is beyond me. It's a real unique number in her catalogue.
