How do we feel?

Daydream (111,002) by Stacey from USA
And there it is, the Grammy argument. That was what went wrong? Thank heavens the Grammy argument holds no credibility. I mean, look who they gave the country Grammy too. Beyonce? I will admit I was utterly disappointed Mariah was robbed in 1996, and again 20 years later. But after Beyonce won a country Grammy, I'm glad Mariah isn't more associated with the "scammys". They've become a joke, lol. I forgot to add Mariah changed the trajectory of music by infusing pop and hip hop, aka Fantasy. No, I think I am right on the mark. Daydream is perfection. I'm grateful I lived through that era and get to enjoy the music 30 years later.

Best R&B (111,001) by Dove from United States
They gave a bunch of awards during the pre-show. I kept wondering what was going to be left for the actual show. I guess we'll see.

Also, I meant to type "I'm so happy for us" in my last post.

Context clue is "resentment" which should land you right on the Grammys. That is what went "wrong". Her industry friends openly talked about that amplifying the divorce. Almost a solid argument but you may have missed the mark completely.

Me too. Lambs and non Lambs have made it the number 1 preordered R&B soul album on Amazon. I am expecting E=MC2 first week sales numbers. I will explain my reasoning tomorrow. All of my analysis is saying so. I know. Hear me out. I will explain more tomorrow.

Vision of Love Mariah and Ben version (110,995) by Bobby A from United States
Do you think we will ever hear the Vision of Love demo version? I am curious to hear it and the other songs on the demo tape. VOL capitvated me the summer of 1990. It was different. It had a gospel feel to it. VOL had some crazy runs and riffs. There was nothing on the radio at the time like it. People were asking who was this girl Mariah Carey. And then we met her on The Arsenio Hall Show and the rest is history. Everything will come full circle on the VMAs.

Ahhahaha I mean I would too want to have a team fussing over me if I was as talented and famous as Mariah. The general public doesn't understand that her diva antics is somewhat of a defense mechanism and also a bit of an act so they get put off. Which is why I hope the Kai Cenat interview portrays her in a more humble light to the general public.

Daydream (110,993) by Stacey from USA
Nothing went wrong with Daydream. Three number one singles, 10 million + in sales, and countless certifications awarded since then say otherwise. "Certified diamonds like the songs I wrote." That era was the height of Mariah's popularity during the 90s.

MC's career defining moments (110,992) by Bobby A from United States
1. Debut album defined Mariah Carey as a songwriter, producer, hallmark of the style of melisma and ad-libs, use of acoustic and electric guitars, powerful ballads with soulful R&B, and became a superstar within 3 years of her debut

2. Started the trend of featuring rappers on her songs

3. First Christmas album was a multiplatinum success

4. Started the remix singles trend

5. Blended R&B and hip hop

6. Created her own label

Daydream (110,990) by Bill from the UK
Hmmm. I'm not sure if One Night was originally planned to go on the album, as during The Rarities Mariah indicated she had completely forgotten about the song and it was never even titled (it was called "I don't know") until she was assembling the compilation. That indicates it never made it out of the sessions. Whether that was a Mariah or Tommy decision we don't know as she's never spoken on the song that much. Not everything is Tommy's fault.

Digging deeper (110,989) by Lambi from USA
I'm no psychologist, but I've always been deeply interested in people, how they carry their trauma and how it leaks through the cracks. Lately, I've been trying to understand the emotional wounds Alison left in Mariah, and I came across this haunting piece of retrospection:

"The closer I got to my sister, the more clearly I could see her broken parts. She had secretly gotten me my own phone line, which only she called me on. She would have these desperate bouts of drug-induced hysteria and call me late at night, in the middle of an episode. I'd talk her down off the ledge, then try to go back to sleep, get up early in the morning, and complete the seventh grade. No one at school knew that frequently, just a few hours earlier, I had subdued my suicidal big sister. Killing herself became a common threat that she shared with me in the wee hours before I went to the school bus stop."

Suddenly "I grew up a little too soon" takes on a different meaning. That kind of situation doesn't just make someone mature for their age. It rewires them. It's a child being forced into the role of a lifeline. Not by choice, but by necessity. I don't think I have the vocabulary to fully describe the sickening weight of being a little girl repeatedly trying to stop someone from dying. It must've been disorienting. You learn to put out fires you didn't start, then go to school like nothing happened.

Mariah may have created distance to survive. Emotionally, physically, publicly. But I don't believe that love ever left. When Alison died, it probably wasn't just grief or regret. It pulled her right back to seventh grade. The phone ringing. Her sister on the edge. And her alone in the dark, panicked, trying to save someone who didn't want to be saved.

I genuinely feel for Mariah. She deserves all the love, peace, and safety now. The more I read her memoir, the more I see just how much she's lived through. She's strong in a way most people will never really understand. What a truly remarkable, extraordinary person.

Kai Cenat's stream (110,988) by Lambi from USA
Great point. She's literally just hanging out with her nephews. I'm surprised she spent so much time on Kai's stream before Rocky's. Mariah has done many lives before, but it's cool to see her being humble around underprivileged youth.

Daydream (110,987) by Lambi from USA
Yup, a lot of what went wrong with Daydream is at the core of her resentment. Mariah had enough, she simply couldn't take it anymore. Normally, I'd defend what Tommy did for her career, but I can actually see why she finally blew up and had to hit the road. By the way, I love your Daydream faves too. You've definitely got great taste.

Daydream (110,986) by Lambi from USA
Exactly, that proves my point. They already had Urban R&B tracks with ABMB and Long Ago, so the foot was already in the door. But they didn't want that sound dominating the project, so it got scaled back. In hindsight, Daydream was clearly the transition album, Tommy just couldn't face that yet. And let's be honest, cutting SA and ON didn't sit right with Mariah. She didn't go that hard on those tracks just for them to end up shelved. She intended them to make the album.

Daydream (110,984) by Bill from the UK
So the fate of "Can't Let Go" was tied to the Emotions album. It wasn't performing as they expected (the debut went to number 1 so a tough act to follow), so in order to boost sales of the album, the physical single release of CLG was shelved in the US. The logic was that anyone that was going to buy the single would go and buy the album instead. That didn't happen and annoying Mariah missed out of what would have been her 6th consecutive number 1.

I remember back in the The Breakfast Club interview in 2014 Mariah had someone fixing her hair, I thought it was funny. It must be fun being a diva. I know if I was a male Mariah or another Bruno Mars I would have my stylist fixing my hair, fanning me off and bringing me lots of sweet tea and lemonade during interviews haha (just kidding). I loved her outfit on Kai's interview. She looked professional and like a boss. As grateful as I am she's still with us it makes me sad she's getting older.

Daydream (110,982) by Stacey from USA
I love Open Arms, both MC's cover and the original by Journey. I agree it's one of Mariah's best covers. The album is sequenced perfectly as it stands. Fantasy is a perfect lead off song for the album. Then UTS begins to slow it down heading into two ballad, OSD and Open Arms. A little bump up in tempo finds ABMB with continues the chill R&B sound again setting the stage again for the next two beautiful ballads, IAF and WISY. Long Ago follows the pattern of UTS and ABMB and bumps up the beat leading into Daydream Interlude. Kinda brings the album full circle starting with Fantasy and ending with DI. Now, I know Looking In is the last song. I see it as a P.S song. At that point, I think MC was done with her marriage to Tommy. She waited until the album had run its course before moving on. The album is perfect as it stands, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. If that makes me full of it, then I'm guilty as charged.

That's why I like the interview, she was uncomfortable on that chair, sitting so low, her inner diva would've pulled a RuPaul and sasheyed away, but instead, she adapted and look real. The diva was gone, the woman, the artist was there. That's the Mariah I miss.

VMA's (110,980) by Bobby A from United States
It is going to be really fabulous tomorrow evening for MC to receive the Vanguard Award, and see her perform live on the CBS. It has been reported on X that MC has been rehearsing with her band and her singers for the past two days. I feel that there may be two special guests as part of her award presentation and performance. Tomorrow is going to be huge for MC because Here For It All will be mentioned, heard, and seen throughout the 3 hour awards show.
