Re: Caution (90,150) (90,152) by Hector from Mexico
Success. Better than Daydream and Music Box combined.

The Distance (90,151) by Bobby A from United States
This is the perfect time for Epic to release The Distance as the official 3rd single. It is the perfect summer song. Disclosure and Kygo remixes would be sweet too.

Re: Mariah's greatest lyric (90,147) (90,149) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I also like "For the record" because of this reason. But my all time favorite is:

Nearing the edge
Oblivious I almost
Fell right over
A part of me
Will never be quite able
To feel stable
That woman-child falling inside
Was on the verge of fading
Thankfully I woke up in time

Guardian angel I
Sail away on an ocean
With you by my side
Orange clouds roll by
They burn into your image
And you're still alive

But I closed my eyes
Steadied my feet on the ground
Raise my head to the sky
And though time rolls by
Still feel like a child
As I look at the moon
Maybe I grew up a little too soon

The part with the guardian angel could be a song for itself. So poetic. I love it so much. And I miss those kind of lyrics. The lyrics on the Butterfly album are truly everything.

That was a low point indeed. However, she has written many clever and witty lines before. I love how is referring to her previous work in "For The Record":

And for the record
I told you underneath the stars
That you belong to me
For the record
It's obvious that
We just can't let go of us, honey

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "You're acting so corny like Fritos."

Lyrics are the words to a song, what happened?

Re: Mariah's greatest lyric (90,138) (90,144) by Morgan from United States
She didn't write the pre-chorus bridge to H.A.T.E.U. The verses, the chorus all of that was changed. She kept the melody and the boxing metaphor, because, honestly, those were genius.

Article: Mariah's ex-manager blames singer in sexual assault suit (90,141) by Travis from USA
I'm so sick and tired of all this drama. Stella needs to get a life, move on and let go, and leave Mariah alone. Does anybody know how stupid this makes her look? Stella and her past assistant are dragging these made up lawsuits out so long that it's going to hurt them much more than Mariah.

Max's Love Me Less (90,140) by Bobby A from United States
Why does the singer Max remind me of MC's vocal technique, ad libs and runs? He really shines through on Love Me Less and Worship. He does the vocal note hand movements with his painted nails like MC too. Check out his live videos for Love Me Less. I think we have a true male clone of Mimi.

Re: Mariah's greatest lyric (90,138) (90,139) by Bill from the UK
I know what you mean. The older album notes quite clearly depicted it as lyrics by Mariah Carey, music by Mariah Carey and (insert collaborator). But ever since it became just a string of surnames, I've never been sure. I do think I read somewhere that Missy Elliott wrote the verses to Babydoll and Mariah the chorus. Other than that, I'm not sure.

I am genuinely shocked that Mariah wrote almost nothing of HATE U. I wonder how many other songs she has tacked onto and claimed credit. I hope not many as my entire belief system will crumble. It suffered during Dub-gate but this would kill it.

Re: Mariah's greatest lyric (90,120) (90,137) by Mirage_Nunez from America
Mariah has so many great lyrical moments it's so hard to pick one, So I'll just highlight three of my favorites lines

"She was kinda magical her laughter sent you casually floating through a moment of release." - Twister 2001

"I was so enraptured no sensibility to open my eyes I misunderstood now you're fading faster. It's suddenly hard to see, you're taking the light letting the shadows inside swiftly." - Vanishing 1990

"It's a shame to feel so euphoric and weak when you smile at me and you tell me the things that you know persuade me to relinquish my love to you, but I can not resist." - Heartbreak 1999 (a lowkey lyrical gem)

Okay just one more:

"Weak in the knees wrapped in a warm gentle breeze and I'm so shy a bundle of butterflies flushed with the heat of desire on a natural high." - Underneath The Stars 1995

And I can go on, but I'll stop there.

The point was just a phrase that is beautiful. True to MCA form somebody had to stick in a whole song. This board makes me worry for the world.

And so we finished the Moet and
Started feeling liberated
And I surrendered as you took me
In your arms
I was so caught up in the moment
I couldn't bear to let you go yet
So I threw caution to the wind
And started listening to my longing heart
And then you softly pressed your lips to mine
And feelings surfaced I'd suppressed
For such a long time
And for a while I forgot
The sorrow and the pain
And melted with you as we stood
There in the rain

Re: Article: Mariah's ex-manager blames singer in sexual assault suit (90,126) (90,133) by John from USA
If anything, it's Mariah that should be suing these opportunistic bacteria, especially Stellasshole. They took advantage of someone who has a mental health problem and became such a bad influence to her that it destroyed what was already an arguably fragile reputation and may have been the last and final breaks to Mariah's decelerating career.

Re: Mariah's greatest lyric (90,121) (90,132) by Edward from USA
Tijl, sorry to rain on your parade, but Mariah didn't write that part of H.A.T.E.U., The Dream did. Here's the The Dream's full demo he presented Mariah with. I actually love the lyrics on his take better than Mariah's. It's obvious Mariah took what she liked from his song, and then rewrote the rest with The Dream and Tricky Stewart.

Yes Breakdown is up there as well. Pretty much the entire Butterfly record is a treasure trove of great lyrical moments, followed closely I think by Charmbracelet.

Stella is what what happens when you suck face with a stranger in a seedy bar when you're drunk, lonely and desperate. You thought you had a good time until the day she becomes a symptom and your mouth is covered in cold sores - surprise, she's herpes.

Madame X and who would you rather (90,128) by Nikki from usa
I got confused with Madame X because that's what Mariah was called while teasing the promo for Jenny Craig. Madonna's always been calculating. Her schtick has always been to take what's hot at the clubs and bring it to mainstream music. That doesn't mean that's all she does or there's no artistry. However, musically, I've never found her artistic. She's known for her visuals. Her music was culturally relevant for the 80's, but nobody is trying to sound like Madonna. I don't think people realize Mariah's debut was an ode to the 80's and she covered every genre that was hot for that decade. The only uniquely MC tracks were VOL and Vanishing. Emotions wasn't anybody at Sony's idea and everyone thought she committed career suicide with her hip pop collaborations. Funding was pulled for Rainbow, so I don't know how anyone can say the entire decade was calculated with a straight face.

Nobody can keep Mariah out of a recording studio - she'd take them all on. Also, Mariah sang with Whitney and she wasn't "tricked" into it, she was flat out asked. Mariah's also shared the stage with Patti LaBelle and a whole slew of divas from both Divas Live Concerts. MC had no issues with singing back up to other artists during her prime, so I think people exaggerate her "attitude" toward others here to an extreme.
