Re: Mariah's greatest lyric (90,120) (90,127) by Will from Australia
Verse chorus verse of Breakdown is some of her best lyrically but she has so many.

You called yesterday to basically say
That you care for me,
But that you're just not in love
Immediately I pretended
To be feeling similarly
And led you to believe it was OK
To just walk away from the one thing
That's unyielding and sacred to me
Well I guess I'm trying to be
Nonchalant about it
And I'm going to extremes to prove
I'm fine without you
But in reality I'm slowly losing my mind
Underneath a disguise of a smile
Gradually I'm dying inside
Friends ask me how I feel
And I lie convincingly
'Cause I don't want to reveal
The fact that I'm suffering
So I wear my disguise
'Til I go home at night
And turn down all the lights
And then I break down and cry
So what do you do
When somebody you're so devoted to
Suddenly just stops loving you
And it seems they haven't got a clue
Of the pain that rejection is putting you through
Do you cling to your pride
And sing "I will survive"
Do you lash out and say, how dare you leave this way?
Do you hold on in vain as they just slip away

Article: Mariah's ex-manager blames singer in sexual assault suit (90,126) by RibbonB from USA
Stella and her circle of snakes. The gift that keeps giving. Basically they all behaved like fools in front of Stella's kids and probably in front of the twin, which they did for all to see on a consistent basis. That really calls her own parenting into question.

Re: Mariah's greatest lyric (90,120) (90,125) by Randy from USA
All of you are wrong. The best, by far, lyric she's ever written is Right To Dream. "An angel lands with broken wings. He warms me with his eyes. And the ice that sheathes around my heart unravels as he smiles." I mean the whole bloody, I used that word for you Andrew, song is a melodically driven poetic narrative that was written under good lighting. And Shezz the feel your body, feel your body, feel your body, repeat in My All desecrates that whole song.

The greatest lyrics are from 2009 and it's all about you: "If you could only see that I was not put here for you to judge me and dispute my innermost truth, and after all these years of enmity, envy, and tears.
It's a shame you don't know me at all."

Re: Mariah's greatest lyric (90,120) (90,123) by Bill from the UK
There's so many, and they're often found in the deep album cuts nobody knows. The opening line of The Roof always gets me. "It wasn't raining yet, but it was definitely a little misty on that warm November night." What a scene setter. That entire song is lyrically and sonically one of the best things she ever put out. So atmospheric and intense, get melancholy and subdued at the same time. I can't even describe it to people, I just have to play it to them.

Also, I think My All has some of the most beautiful, poignant poetic lyrics: "If it's wrong to love you then my heart just won't let me be right. 'Coz I've drowned in you and I won't pull through without you by my side."

Also from the second verse I love the lyric: "And yet you're so far like a distant star I'm wishing on tonight."

Does anybody get as irked by the "feel your body, feel your body, feel your body, baby baby baby" addition in the live performances?

Andrew, I agree with you wholeheartedly. This piece from H.A.T.E.U. has always been a rather poetic moment I really felt through and through:

We went round for round
'Til we knocked love out
We were laying in the ring
Not making a sound

Mariah's greatest lyric (90,120) by Andrew from London UK
I always - and I mean always since 97 - thought the greatest lyric Mariah ever put to paper was: "Guardian Angel, I sail away on an ocean with you by my side."

But recently I think her greatest lyric is: "I weep for what I dreamed we all could be."

Aside from the alliteration, the assonance and the metre, there is so much sentiment in it. It's beautiful and heartbreaking in equal measure.

I wished she was featured on Ed Sheeran collaboration album, he had Skillrex on it. It would have been a nice way to fresh up her fanbase.

Yes, I did actually burst out laughing when she said she doesn't like people who cover songs. She literally hasn't managed to pull together an album of 100% original material since her debut in 1990.

Ariana. But honestly she probably won't do it. She can't even get Cardi.

I have been out of the loop with the board for a couple of days. I moved back to Atlanta today. Texas just didn't cut it for me. Mariah and Usher pictured in the studio together. This is epic. Maybe she is working on MC16. Didn't the Epic deal obligate her to produce three albums?

Justice for Glitter was a publicity stunt (90,115) by Will from Australia
I've been sitting on this for a while but I really think Mariah's new management team coordinated the #JusticeForGlitter movement through a PR Agency in order to promote Caution.

Mariah's public image was so bad following the nightmare era with that woman that I think they needed a huge turnaround for Caution to not flop completely and give her something interesting to talk about and get back in the good books.

It doesn't take a huge investment to make something an iTunes No.1, it's very different to physical sales and once you planted the seed, push through social media channels, build a campaign and there you have it - redemption and you publicly have erased the biggest stumbling block in your career that people won't forget.

My line of work is in publicity, communications and marketing and this instantly jumped out at me as a planned campaign. I'm delighted it worked if it was as Caution would have had a fraction of the attention it received without that narrative.

Re: Who she'd rather? (90,104) (90,114) by Will from Australia
She wouldn't dare do something with Christina, Ariana or Lovato because they would try do a Celine at Divas Live with Aretha and our sing her to prove they're the voice blah blah.

I could see the JLo thing come to life. They both have made the "I don't know her" into a running joke now and have said more pleasant things towards each other and as two aging stars it would definitely raise their profiles again. But as Mariah once said, I'm just not sure how that would sound.

Portrait (90,113) by Rene from US
I was really surprised when Madonna decided to release any music and the concept of the album was interesting. I like Medellin and how she did the choreography and way the video was shot. I'm not going to speak too much of Madonna here. We cannot compare them and who can argue who is "better". I was listening to "Portrait" today and I was so caught up in the moment. For a second, it felt like that song really shows a really vulnerable side. The part where she says she won't cry and the moment will subside kills me. She is a true lyricist. I hope she releases music soon, as I see she is working with Usher. I hope she releases a DVD of some sort. It's overdue.

I can only think of Christina Aguilera. With the other ones Mariah will never ever collaborate.

Re: Who she'd rather? (90,104) (90,110) by 90sMariah from SG
Not going to happen. She would rather wear flats than have her name next to any of those women in a single or album. Besides, even in her vocal peak she had never thought of doing a duet with female Singers at the time, until Whitney of course. And that wasn't even her idea, they were both tricked into agreeing to do the duet, which I am thankful for. Let's face it, she'd rather feature female rappers than singers, especially now that she's at her most insecure vocal wise.

Nicki Minaj, they can cut and paste everything and make good music together. And when she performs the song she can leave her out.

Re: Madame X (90,103) (90,108) by Edward from USA
Completely agree. Mariah's image and music were also carefully calculated for about a decade. I think it's easy for some people to dismiss other artists just to put Mariah on a pedestal. Mariah and Madonna are icons and they've influenced generations in their own different ways. I haven't followed Madonna since "Confessions" because I haven't liked what her music has morphed into, but I won't dismiss her accomplishments and impact on the music scene because of that. She's always taking risks, some of which have paid off really well. As for "Almost Home", Mariah broke my heart with that dismissive comment. "Almost Home" actually brought back my faith in her ability to create something lyrically and vocally reminiscent of her glory days, come to find out she didn't write it and most likely was directed as how to sing it hence her bitterness towards it. Another stupid comments she made was about her not liking other people covering her songs when she's spent her entire career sampling and covering other people's music. I try to make myself believe she wasn't taking her meds when she made those comments.

Re: Madame X (90,103) (90,107) by Tijl from Belgium
Andrew, I beg to differ. Of course lol. There is a significant difference between being stuck in the past and being true to oneself.

I am wondering why calling Madonna "calculated" is supposed to be hilarious. It could be her middle name if not the title of her latest little effort.

All this Madonna talk made me think of a new game. MC has had beef with all of the following divas at one point in time. If it was the last studio on earth, who would Mariah most likely collaborate with: Nikki Minaj, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez or Demi Lovato? Come on guys you have to pick one.

Re: Madame X (90,101) (90,103) by Andrew from London UK
Madonna is far from likeable. However, her personality and her musical creativity are mutually exclusive. To criticise her as "calculated" for being on trend musically is hilarious. If Mariah hadn't been stuck in the past for the last decade she might have sold a lot more than she has. Take Almost Home. It is an absolute smash hit as far as the fans are concerned. Yet, Mariah not only abandoned anywhere it may take her musically but also dismissed it with her own criticism. The result? MIAM and You're Mine (Eternal), Infinity, Infurmurz, I Don't.
