Who she'd rather? (90,104) by Randy from USA
All this Madonna talk made me think of a new game. MC has had beef with all of the following divas at one point in time. If it was the last studio on earth, who would Mariah most likely collaborate with: Nikki Minaj, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez or Demi Lovato? Come on guys you have to pick one.

Re: Madame X (90,101) (90,103) by Andrew from London UK
Madonna is far from likeable. However, her personality and her musical creativity are mutually exclusive. To criticise her as "calculated" for being on trend musically is hilarious. If Mariah hadn't been stuck in the past for the last decade she might have sold a lot more than she has. Take Almost Home. It is an absolute smash hit as far as the fans are concerned. Yet, Mariah not only abandoned anywhere it may take her musically but also dismissed it with her own criticism. The result? MIAM and You're Mine (Eternal), Infinity, Infurmurz, I Don't.

Re: Madame X (90,100) (90,102) by Shezz from Pk
I grew up on Madonna and then fell in love with Mariah mid 90s. Madonna will always be my first love and her pre 2000s catalog is as nostalgiac for me as Mariah's is if not more. Ofcourse I never "stanned" her half as much as I do Mariah but I can't deny her power (that was). Take a Bow is one of my favourite songs of her's but I totally loved Ray of Light as well, it was her Butterfly in so many ways. Totally new territory lost her a lot of fans but adventurous and revolutionary. Music had some gems as did Confessions on a Dancefloor. I find current Mariah head and shoulders above current Madonna.

Re: Madame X (90,084) (90,101) by Tijl from Belgium
"Ray Of Light" is an all time favourite because to me it feels as an authentic and genuine album telling a personal story whereas most of Madonna's other work comes across as very calculated to be in sync with the current trends, especially her later work. "Confessions" is a fun record yet could also have been made by the likes of Kylie or any other dance diva. I don't care about "Madame X" one bit. What I have seen of Madonna in the media of lately was a fading star desperately trying to be relevant. Especially her interview at Graham Norton made me feel sorry for her. Madonna is an iconic popstar but to me she doesn't come across as a very likeable woman.

Re: Madame X (90,097) (90,100) by Special K from USA
Hmm, I think Take A Bow edges out Secret but that damn Hung Up slaps the dog mess out of both of those songs. I'll take old school Madonna anyday. I was listening to Everybody, Lucky Star, Angel, Holiday and Dress You Up the other day straight getting my dance groove on. Madonna's catalog is bannanas. I have the majority of Madonna's albums but she kind of lost me with Ray Of Light but redeemed herself with Music. Hard Candy was a hot mess. Confessions On The Dance Floor and Bedtimes Stories are her best albums in my opinion. I'm still going to give Madame X a try.

Re: Madame X (90,097) (90,099) by Andrew from London UK
Ray of Light and Confessions on a Dancefloor are seminal albums in modern music history. To ignore their importance or their brilliance is a bit ridiculous. But at least Madonna has always tried new things with each album. Mariah is stuck repeating the same old sounds over and over again. That's why there is a malaise when it comes to Mariah's new releases. You've heard most of it before. You only really care if you are an avid fan.

Re: Madame X (90,097) (90,098) by Licia from USA
No Bill Take A Bow from that album is the greatest song ever. I do enjoy Secret though (one of my favorite videos). I actually love that whole album. I have all her albums from Bedtime Stories on back to the Madonna album. She lost me with the Ray of Light album and I came back briefly for the Music album. After that album there hasn't been anything that she's put out that has interested me. I did try to give this album a chance, but it's not good.

The only Madonna albums I've ever owned are Immaculate Collection (like everyone else in the world) and Bedtime Stories. The song Secret is the best thing she ever did.

Re: Madame X (90,087) (90,096) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Okay, one, yes, it is just your preference that what most perceive as artistic growth comes across as a mess to you. But that's okay. Two, Caution is most definitely not a mess - all of the songs belong to that album and there is a consistent, plush nocturnal vibe that ties them all together. MIAMTEC is a mess, though.

But I share your appreciation of Madonna as well. Yes, her albums have not been great since Confessions On A Dancefloor, and it's quite obvious why. Hard Candy marked the time when Madonna decided to chase trends instead of going against the grain. Every album she released since then followed suit. Hard Candy tried to capitalize on the Timbaland-Timberlake glory days, MDNA came at a time when the GaGa/Ke$ha EDM trend was dying down, Rebel Heart ended up being a victim of scattershot production in its attempt to throw Madonna into any genre to see what sticks, and Madame X, while being her best album since 2005, is her pandering heavily to the Latin market, like someone mentioned on this board earlier.

My favorite album of hers is the very underrated Bedtime Stories. Forbidden Love, Love Tried To Welcome Me and Take A Bow are just golden.

Critics are divided with Madame X. They either think it's her best in years or one of her worst ever. But as it currently stands, so far, it is her best reviewed album since Confessions On A Dancefloor, despite containing some very questionable lyrics and sonic choices, along with some of the most offensive themes she has tackled in her entire career. Her political and social stances are intended as stabs at "wokeness", but end up either being laughable or perpetuates the white savior trope.

The most glaring thing about Madame X is that it showcases Madonna's voice at the worst shape it has been since the Like A Virgin era, but at least then she sounded human. She never has been the best vocalist, but she sounded adequate, even good, especially throughout the mid-90s to the mid-00s. Now, her voice is plastic, squeaky, cloying and marinated with autotune. However, given her horrific Eurovision performance, she definitely needed all the pitch correction in the world to make the album.

B I like your list. Apart from AIWFCIU very downbeat and midtempo song choices, so in my minds sounds very chill. I like that vibe, maybe I'll make a playlist, add The Roof and Slipping Away for that extra smooth.

Mariah also did bundles, but managed to debut only at no.5. But I'm glad Mariah is still serving quality 30 years into her career. This is what I want Mariah to focus on, not the charts.

Re: Single choices for each album (90,090) (90,093) by Bill from the UK
That's not how you spell Migrate.

In all honesty I've been relatively okay with the choices made as singles, particularly during the 90s. I only wish the Butterfly singles all got worldwide full releases (only Honey and My All did) rather than specific singles for certain territories. One interesting fact was that And You Don't Remember was set to be the 4th single from Emotions, but was shelved when I'll Be There and Unplugged unexpectedly took off. I do also wonder how You're So Cold would have fared, had it been chosen as the first single from that album.

I agree in everything except Crybaby. That song should have been the second single from Rainbow.

I love Madonna but Madame X is her worst album ever. Mariah has never released an album as bad as Madame X (fortunately).

Boy
Infinity
Crybaby
Don't Stop (F4J)

Article: Mariah Carey is "stamping her heels" with frustration (90,089) by Travis from USA
Whatever the case, Mariah is in her best self since the last few years. This is old news and I can't believe that a so called news source has to turn to this again. I think it's time to move on, get over it, and make like "Frozen" and let it go.

Mariah reaching out on Twitter (90,088) by 90sMariah from SG
I seldom go on Twitter anymore, but last week or was it two weeks ago when she RT'd a response to someone's tweet re: Miley Cyrus using MC initials and Mariah responded by tagging Eye Patch (Madonna) and the Nasal Chimpunk. Did she even get a response?

Re: Madame X (90,084) (90,087) by Randy from USA
I was a huge Madonna fan and some of her critically panned at the time albums were my favorites. American Life is a masterpiece to me. Confessions on a Dancefloor is a classic but Hard Candy, MDNA and Rebel Heart were a mess and not what I liked. I listened to snippets of Madame X and it's a mess and I won't buy it. So my point is that I respect Madonna and MC. But I haven't liked MC's last two albums either. MIAMTEC and Caution are a mess compared to the rest of her discography. What is it about pop artists and changing their music and alienating their fan base? Celine only releases Adult contemporary. Whitney released an Adult R&B album as her last. I don't want trendy or what you think is growth as an artist. I want what you've always done. Maybe it's just me. I will not be buying Madame X and mark my words if MC releases another experimental trendy R&B record it will be the first album of hers in history I will not buy.

Single choices for each album (90,085) by The Real Deal from USA
New topic. If I was A&R, here would be my single choices for each album.

1. Mariah Carey - I would keep the singles as they were (Vision Of Love, Love Takes Time, Someday, I Don't Wanna Cry), but I would've released There's Got To Be A Way and Prisoner simultaneously to radio at the same time as promo only tracks.

2. Emotions - I would keep releases as they were (Emotions, Can't Let Go, Make It Happen), but would've sent "If It's Over" to adult contemporary radio for promo only airplay and "To be Around You" to pop radio for promo only airplay.

3. Music Box - Dreamlover, Hero, Without You/Now That I Know (as a double single), Anytime You Need A Friend, All I've Ever Wanted

4. Daydream - Fantasy, One Sweet Day, Always Be My Baby, Open Arms, Underneath The Stars, Melt Away

5. Butterfly - Honey, Butterfly, My All, Breakdown, The Roof, Babydoll

6. Rainbow - Heartbreaker, Thank God I Found You, Against All Odds, How Much (but remixed), After Tonight

7. Glitter - Loverboy, Lead the Way, Never Too Far, Last Night A DJ Saved My Life

8. Charmbracelet - Through The Rain, The One, Yours, I Only Wanted, Bringin' On The Heartbreak

9. The Emancipation Of Mimi - It's Like That, We Belong Together, Shake it Off, Say Somethin', Don't Forget About Us, Stay the Night

10. E=MC2 - Touch My Body, Migrate, Side Effects, I Stay In Love, I'm That Chick (but with intro, if no intro, then replace with Cruise Control)

11. Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chaunteuse - Beautiful, Meteorite/Thirsty (double single - "Thirsty" to urban; "Meteorite" to dance club play remixers), Faded, You Don't Know What To Do, Dedicated

12. Caution - A No No, With You (it's actually my least favorite song, but a good reintroduction for "new" radio formats), The Distance, Stay Long Love You, Giving Me Life

Songs from her albums that I would not have released as singles (physical or promo), these were released, but I would have nixed them: Never Forget You, Can't Take That Way, Crybaby, Reflections, Don't Stop (Funkin' For Jamaica), Boy (I Need You), Get Your Number, Fly Like A Bird, Bye Bye, GTFO (even though I like it)

Madame X (90,084) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
I actually took a listen to the album and I have to say it is an auto tuned mess. Also critics have not been too kind either. But respect to Madonna for still out here doing her thing, even if I don't subscribe to her or her art.

Re: Charts (90,077) (90,083) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I wouldn't use the term "outlasted" as well. They're still in the game, killing it for women of their age in such an ageist industry. Madame X may have sold more because it was promoted better and Madonna has once again resorted to ticket-album bundling for her upcoming tour.
