The Moon Man (111,026)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I loved Mariah's camaraderie with Ariana. I'm so glad Mariah changed her attitude towards Ari about three years ago or so. Ariana referring to Mariah as "mother", given the significance of that, it's simply epic and the greatest show of respect. I'm very proud of both of them. I can't effing wait for "HFIA".

I agree the outfit was not it hahah. And the performance was ok, very little movement. I wish she had the confidence she did in the other recent show, I can't remember what event it was, the one with the long ramp where she was walking up and down and interacted with a child. She seemed more relaxed there.

Really happy she got the best RnB video as well. Performance was pretty much as expected. I'd give it a 7. I wonder why they cut it down to 5 minutes from the usual 10 minutes given to the Vanguard performance. I'm sure Mariah wasn't complaining. Best part of it was of course her interaction with Ari. The body suit era needs to end though. A nice short dress would've been more flattering. All in all another good promo for the new era. I think she'll be so done with the promo when the album finally comes out.

VMAs: somewhere in a dark room (111,022)
by John from USA

Sits Christina watching Mariah and Ariana on TV giving love to one another. Ariana honoring and being reverential, and Mariah giving back the support and acknowledgement. Christina must be saying to herself: Why can't it be me?

by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Ugh I love this for Mariah and Ariana. What an honor for Ariana to present a milestone award to someone she looked up to since she was a kid and someone who clearly shaped her musical career. And what an honor for Mariah to have someone like Ariana, who is one of the most sought after pop stars of this generation, to be so overtly gracious and complimentary of her. Melts my heart to see them be friends now.

VMAs (111,016)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|

Congratulations MC. I loved the speech and her little plug for her album at the end. Smart move because the VMAs had huge viewership last night. Also so glad that Ariana gave the award to Mariah. Finally someone currently and at the top of their game giving Mariah an award. I saw the speech but anyone has a link to Ariana presenting it? What did she say? I would love it if someone can provide a link or tell me what she said to announce Mariah.

Doja & Tate (111,019)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
I really enjoyed Doja Cat's performance.I didn't know she could dance like that. It reminded me of The Misfits from my favorite cartoon when I was a kid, Jem and the Holograms.
I also really liked Tate McRae's performance. She's mesmerizing to watch. She gives me Britney vibes.
I thought Tyla was very pretty and I liked her outfit. It was fun and young. I like her accent. I'd never heard of her before. She was giving Rihanna vibes when Rihanna first came out. What are some good songs by her?
I didn't watch the Gaga performance because it started out kind of scary. Haha but I just saw it has the most views. Maybe I'll watch it later.

Beyonce country album (111,015)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
I don't follow Beyoncé super closely. I mostly listen to her hits and the songs with music videos. Was her album not country? If it was country, and it was the best of the ones nominated, maybe she did deserve to win.
Again, I don't know anything about the albums that were nominated because I don't listen to country music, but maybe it really was the best one.
In high school I watched a made-for-TV movie about the Jackson 5. Legit, the only thing I remember from that movie is how the mom wanted to be a country western singer but they told her she couldn't because she was black. If that's the only reason she can't be a country singer then I think that's bullshit.
With all the talented writers and producers they hire, I'm sure Beyoncé's country album was probably amazing. I didn't listen to any of it, so I can't give a personal opinion, but the other songs I have heard from her - they've been pretty great.

Initial thoughts on VMA performance (111,014)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
I liked it. I love the gold ensemble. (She is still the most beautiful girl I've ever seen.) I liked that the songs were more up-tempo and fun. The different mixes made it feel new. The only thing is, I wish it was a little longer and that she moved a little more. Not a ton, we all know she's not a dancer. I feel like she moved more and was more relaxed at Capital's Summertime Ball.
If there is something wrong I wish she would just tell us. Authenticity is the highest frequency.
Bianca falling was prime acting from that actress. That was a good fall. I would have liked the slap to look a little more real but maybe Mariah is afraid of getting sued or something. So she had to make it blatantly clear she didn't actually hit her.
I loved her speech and interaction with Ariana. Funny and humble.

And there it is, the Grammy argument. That was what went wrong? Thank heavens the Grammy argument holds no credibility. I mean, look who they gave the country Grammy too. Beyonce? I will admit I was utterly disappointed Mariah was robbed in 1996, and again 20 years later. But after Beyonce won a country Grammy, I'm glad Mariah isn't more associated with the "scammys". They've become a joke, lol. I forgot to add Mariah changed the trajectory of music by infusing pop and hip hop, aka Fantasy. No, I think I am right on the mark. Daydream is perfection. I'm grateful I lived through that era and get to enjoy the music 30 years later.

VMA medley (111,008)
by Lara from Middle East
| |
|
|
I loved it. How she blended the songs together. I'm sure most of the audience (who are not familiar with her repertoire) wouldn't noticed she sings the song on the background music of another one. I love that the priority was given to the musical performance. They had some elements of her videos but as usual Mariah is very slow on stage. I don't mind that, since she gave a solid performance, my issue is that she keeps wearing outfits you expect some dancing and movements in them. I wished she would switch to something more casual. I don't know how the general public will like her performance since nowadays it's less about the music and more about the energy and movement . Personally, I'm happy with it.

VMA (111,005)

Performance: It was what I expected, Mariah trying to be lively. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't great either. I think she's stiff because when your lip syncing that's where your focus is, to look like you're singing. That said, I found my self singing along to all the amazing hits. My favorite part was the Honey/Heartbreaker mashup. I spied the trendsetting Fantasy Remix. RIP to ODB. No matter her voice, those are her songs, her lyrics, her directing videos, her executive producing her music, etc. Acceptance speech: Too funny. I thought it was perfect from beginning to end. My favorite line was the "it's about friggin time" line. A great moment for MC. 19 days and counting.

The VMAs performance (111,004)
by Lighty from China

I'm glad Mariah got these awards at the VMAs but the performance is just ... meh. That's the best word I could come up with. Lip sync fails here and there, cute but uninspired "battle" with Bianca, and above all, still little energy overall. Nice song selection though and the dancers are doing great. There's no way this Mariah could pull a Super Bowl halftime show.

Context clue is "resentment" which should land you right on the Grammys. That is what went "wrong". Her industry friends openly talked about that amplifying the divorce. Almost a solid argument but you may have missed the mark completely.
