Re: Love Takes Time (92,601) (92,602) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I'm all for Ballad-riah, but I'd like her to work with Finneas for that. Good enough for his sister Billie's entire discography so far, good enough to get Selena her first number one with a stripped, bare bones ballad in an otherwise beat-oriented 2019, then he should be able to work well with Mariah.

But I'd really prefer Mariah to come back with an uptempo. She kicked off MIAMTEC things with a midtempo and that stalled at #15, then she kicked off Caution with With You and that went nowhere so I guess it's time to go with something of a faster pace with infectious, high energy.

Love Takes Time (92,601) by Bobby A from United States
If MC could give another Love Takes Time this year, she would win over a whole new generation of fans. There are like 6 songwriters and producers who can give her another Love Takes Time. They are Ryan Tedder, Darryl "DJ" Camper, Babyface, Harvey Mason Jr., Greg Kurstin, and Jimmy Napes.

I'm CB's biggest fan, but even I draw the line at comparing Breakdown to Clown. Lol.

Charmbracelet in full voice (92,599) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
In my alternate world, Mariah is singing the album in full voice, and not the whispering falsetto voice that we have in this reality. Just imagine Mariah's voice in Hero singing Through The Rain, Mariah's voice in Always Be My Baby singing The One, Boy, You Got Me, with many layers of strong voices for the chorus. The album would have getting more support from the public. The album should be named "Sunflower" instead, and the album cover is the one where she lying down on grass with the white dress. Perfect. Just in my alternate world, no harm.

Oh Nikki. I was reading your post about how great Charmbracelet is and got to the part comparing Clown to Breakdown and literally spat out my tea.

I was actually trying to figure out if that album is my most disliked of hers, as I'm also not that crazy about Rainbow. Both very similar albums with some great songs but a lot of fillers and tracks that are harmful to your eardrums.

I've always thought though that Subtle Invitation was an early indication of the sounds we'd hear more of on The Emancipation of Mimi and it would not be out of place living on that album.

As much as Charmbracelet infuriates me, it's so pleasing that Mariah has such a large fan base and range of musicality that there are many fans who come to give it its flowers.

Charmbracelet (92,597) by Jeff from USA
Speaking of Charmbracelet, do y'all think this is MC's most polarizing album for the fans? It seems that many of us have a love it or hate it attitude toward it. I can't think of another album that's so polarizing.

Mariah (92,596) by We are Lambily from USA
Every time I hear this generation vocalists sing a Mariah Carey song just proves to me how talented Mariah still is. Demi Lovato is the latest victim. She sang My All, and it was one of the worst performances she has given. All the haters like to comment how Mariah vocals has declined every chance they get. But Caution proved to me she is still leaps ahead of the young girls in terms of musicianship and vocals.

Andrew, I feel you. That night wih Pavarotti is absolutely wonderful. I showed the performance to my best friend, who happens to be an opera singer and he was in awe. Even though he doesn't care about popular music he has become a rather appreciative fan of Mariah. "Good pipes on her" he once said. And he did refer to her voice.

Re: Charmbracelet (92,575) (92,592) by Tijl from Belgium
"Charmbracelet" is one album I hardly ever listen to and every time I do feel as giving it a try, I turn it off halfway through. The one song I still love is "Bringin' On The Heartbreak". The roughness of her voice in certain parts not to mention that whistle is pretty fantastic. "Sunflowers" is a rather dull song but the fact it was written for her father gives it some gravitas. One critic said about the album: "Charmbracelet is like a stream of watercolors that bleed into a puddle of brown." Not far from the truth, in my opinion. The Charmbracelet tour however, was her most creative one and prepared her voice for "Emancipation".

Re: Charmbracelet (92,575) (92,591) by Aliya from Canada
Charmbracelet is absolutely my favorite album by Mariah Carey. It is exactly my style. Her tone is just too beautiful and velvety. I love the R and B. I love her belting, especially at the end of Subtle Invitation, blows my mind. How her voice can do that is beyond me. Her control of her vocals, breathing and the strength of her voice is insane. My favorite song of all time is the song Yours. I love the layering of her vocals. Her vocal placements and every sound she makes. It's just so peaceful and the harmonies and instrumentals are just... wow. Highly under-rated album. My favorite album. Perfection. She is the iconic R and B queen.

Mariah is the queen of remixes, lol. It seemed appropriate. I remember hearing ABMB remix for the first time. My sister bought the CD single for my birthday. I had no clue about Mariah's remixes. It was like opening up a whole new world. Then add hearing unreleased songs like Slipping Away? Mind blown.

Going to be an MIAM weekend (92,588) by Bobby A from United States
This album really said a lot about what MC can do when she gets in the studio. She knows exactly how to bring a song to life with just the right imagery, Mariahisms and ad libs. The only negative aspect of MIAM is that MC's vocals are not her best in terms she sounded hoarse on most of the songs. But I love this album. MIAM is MC's most diverse album. I want this album on vinyl. What album is going to be your weekend?

Dedicated is one of those songs undeniably Mariah Carey. I have so many questions for MC about this song.

Subtle Invitation (92,586) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
I really hope that we get an album of beautiful gems like this one. One Night With Mariah Tour to follow, including songs like Babydoll, The Roof, After Tonight, 4th of July, Mine Again, Thanx 4 Nothin, Betha gon know, and of course 8th Grade all done in arrangements in the same realm as Subtle Invitation. I am so here for it. I love this performance and her live vocals (which are most of the vocals). Watch here. Enjoy.

Re: Charmbracelet (92,575) (92,585) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
How dare all of you.

I've fallen in love with Charmbracelet so hard since just before Caution was released. Back in the day it was her whisper tone that didn't grab me and I felt that the samples were not used creatively, which she was always great at. But it finally got to me and I've been in love with it for real. I am literally totally shocked that my faves were written off the tracklist that started this post. (By the way, all posting on here is fun for me, I am not in any way bashing anyone else's opinions or stirring drama.)

That being said. Boy (I need you) is sooo nice to listen to now. It's just cool and so effortless. And it just sounds pink. Like totally pink and I love that.

Clown. This song. I call it the "sweet dis". I have never heard someone read for filth in the sweetest tone. Her flows are flawless and so melodic. Seriously when I go off on people I aim for eloquence and composure and that's what that song does for me. Again, totally effortless. I have it right up there with Breakdown.

Subtle Invitation. Ok, so I'm a huge fan of jazz, especially with female vocals. I love live instruments also. Subtle Invitation is the first grown woman track that I have hear by her. She uses so much restraint in her voice until she needs to let it out. It is so bluesy as far as the tone she is setting in her story. The song is extremely relatable and I love how it feels like a whole movie to me. It is one of her modest songs and I love it so so so much.

And finally, possibly my all time favorite song by Mariah ever, Lullaby. I can't listen to this without getting all emotional. Everyone can relate to this song and her word choice, her tone, her attitude and approach. It is just so her, it's so personal. The opening notes and when that beat kicks in reminds me of 80s MJ a tad. This is The Roof pt 2. The Roof is my 2nd face of hers right behind this one. That scene that she paints when she sings in minor. I can't get enough of it. I feel like she uses the minor notes much more in this song than usual. The song sounds sexy, seductive, familiar, but excited (that beat) and also cautious. Which to me, are all the feelings that rush when seeing an ex again that you still have sexual chemistry and feelings for. Impeccably captured and executed.

Ok. That being said, here are the fillers that I skip always:
Through the Rain (including remix)
My Saving Grace
Sunflowers
Bringing on the Heartbreak

The One Remix is so much better than the original to me. I think because I like how clear she sounds when she is not in that sweet tone with all the layering. It reminds me of My All/Stay Awhile video vibe and I love that.

Ok, that's my 2 cents. Just for reference: I've been a lamb since '90 and Mariah made me believe in Santa Claus (story for another time). And I'm a huge fan of Caution, loved her vocals in a lower register and 8th Grade is everything.

Great addition Edward and a tough one but I've gone back into the vault for one that, if released at the time would've taken over the airwaves.

Single that wasn't but should've been: Till The End Of Time

Re: The Marammys (92,574) (92,581) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Eddie, I mostly agree with you. But some alterations:

Album (of the career): Butterfly
Power ballad: All I've Ever Wanted
Beautiful vocal ballad: Whenever You Call
Up-Tempo: Fantasy (non-rap)
Mid-Tempo: You Don't Know What To Do (is this mid tempo?)
Cover: The Beautiful Ones (the "I may not know, I may not know" part is everything and everything after)
Rare: Everything Fades Away (it's not rare for Europeans but it's still puts the awe in awesome)
Lyrical: Languishing (baring your soul has never been so simple or subtle or moving.)
Christmas: Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)
Duet/Feature: Hero at Pavarotti and Friends (I don't have the words to describe it. The humility on her face, the wonder in his eyes, the harmony, the brave performance when she was clearly scrapping herself. That was Mariah sans bullshit. My dad, who hated her, said "wow". I have played it to death.)
Live Performance: Anytime You Need A Friend (live at Proctors theatre - My brother, when he was 16 years old, watched it on VHS and said "I've never seen a person get so into her music" and I never forgot it. It was the first time I saw Mariah, also. We all sat aghast. We three brothers all later went on to travel to London to see Mariah in 1999.)
Uptempo Remix: My All ("feel your body feel your body feel your body baby baby" - nothing beats the first time hearing that level of genius)
R&B Remix: Honey (So So Def) (Its better than the original - the screaming st the end is fuh kin A.

Adding:
Single that wasn't but should've been: You Don't Know What To Do (would've put her back on the map)

Licia, you don't like Subtle Invitation? That's one of the highlights on CB for me. I agree with you on You Got Me; that's a great song.

I love the story behind Sunflowers more than I like the actual song. I don't think it was a good one vocally, but I can understand that emotion makes it difficult to sing.

Re: Charmbracelet (92,575) (92,579) by Licia from USA
I agree with most of your list, but I would take out Sunflowers (sad song I've only listened to once), I Only Wanted (not a fav), and Subtle Invitation (that one is meh to me). I'd add back You Got Me and You Had Your Chance. I'd also add The One remix at the add. Vocally it sucks (that's the one vocal CB moment where I cringed), but I love the use of the Goodbye Love sample by Guy. The only order of the songs I'd change is MSG has to be first for me. That's my song.
