The SNL performance is one of my favourites too. Mariah at her best.

Stacey, I wish you a good start with your new "family members" the kittens. I'm sure they have a lot of energy. I have a male cat, he's relaxed right now listening to Coffee Time Jazz. Cats have good taste.

Have you noticed that he hasn't written another song for Beyonce?

Beyonce didn't even to come to the writing session with that lyric. Lol. That lyric is definitely The-Dream.

Something is definitely up. I would love her to release some re-recordings. Or maybe some unreleased songs from the era if they exist!

Re: MC hurry up (100,857) (100,859) by jaker20 from US
Why should she ask permission from Kelis who doesn't own the rights nor credited for song? Why should Beyonce get involved with Kelis' beef with Pharrel, that is their issue, not hers. Everybody samples, including Mariah. If an artist want to sample a song, the artist give credit to whomever is the legal owner of the song, not someone who is claiming or disputing those credits. Haters are just using this narrative to discredit Beyonce. No one knows how much "effort" she actually put into it. So what? The fact that she is releasing an album, and this is the best they can come up with is just sad, when some artists aren't even doing, well, anything at all with their careers. Don't worship these artists who sits on a pedestal but hardly lift a finger once they built their mansions, because over time, hard work beats talent, always.

Mariah's just posted to socials #Butterfly25. I wonder what she has up her sleeve for its silver anniversary?

I'm predicting a rerecording of the album a la The Roof with Brandy and Close My Eyes acoustic.

Re: MC hurry up (100,856) (100,857) by Anonymous from United States
I am doubtful about the amount of "effort" that Beyonce puts into her albums considering most of her songs have closer to ten writers credited. Her production company clearly hires committees of tastemakers to write the lyrics and melodies and then they take the finished product to Beyonce, she changes a word or phrase here and there, and then takes a writing credit for something she had little to no involvement with. Ne-Yo confirmed this back in the mid 2000s when he questioned why Beyonce was credited as a writer on "Irreplaceable" from the "B'Day" album. She was even sued by Des'ree's publishing company for her shameless rip off of "Kissing You" for the "B'Day" album. You can't simply retitle the song "Still In Love" and expect "Des'ree" to be too stupid to notice this. As far as I'm concerned, Kelis has every right to go after Beyonce for not even bothering to ask permission. Beyonce is a serial and repeat offender when it comes to plagiarism and is enabled by people like Pharrell, who swindled Kelis out of revenue for her most popular songs.

And the way she's being praised for incorporating gay ball culture into her visuals as if that hasn't been done over and over by other artists is pretty rich. But I'm sure her production company paid every mainstream media outlet handsomely to praise her album no matter how mediocre the product is.

Re: MC hurry up (100,847) (100,856) by jaker20 from US
Kelis is a bit of a cry baby, she should come for Pharrell and not Beyonce. With that said, the record isn't pushing anything, and is not exciting but not every album needs to. It brought Beyonce back to the limelight and into the charts, something Mariah wasn't able to achieve in Caution, which I love by the way. At least Beyonce is actually still putting some effort to her art and creativity and feeding her fans. So, going back to the original post, Mariah really should be creating something and collaborating with talents. If she can produce something like the quality of Caution every 2 to 3 years, I would be happy.

Same. That SNL performance is insane, in a good way. I love the song even more now that we know the story behind it.

P.S. I got two kittens a few months ago. They are being quite wild this morning, lol.

I love the album, especially THIQUE and Church Girl. I know Mariah's probably been listening to it. I think Bey may have an album of the year. Universal acclaim.

But yes, I need MC16 too. Even just one good "It's like that" moment.

I don't really think Mariah would appreciate reading one of fans knocking someone else's creative art that they made during the pandemic to bring joy to their fans. The last I checked Mariah and Beyoncé are on good terms and are considered friends. Peace.

This Beyonce album is nothing but a bunch of hoop la of "I think I run the world". I can understand why Kelis is mad at Beyonce's false girl power campaign. MC hurry up with MC16. I can't take anymore of the junk that is being released to the masses as brilliant creativity. I hope I don't offend the Beehive, but I really don't care if I do.

Re: What sank Charmbracelet? (100,845) (100,846) by Stacey from USA
MC is fire when she uses all aspects of her voice. Just like I hate overuse of the whisper, I don't like songs where her full voice is flying high. I like it when she mixes it up. I like the tension, the build up and then emotional release at the end.

Damn Stacey. You're right on, again. We Belong Together was the smash of the decade because of those vocals (and relatable lyrics). I wish Mimi would do another one of those! Even if it's the only "huge vocal" song of the album, I'd buy it and support her. She just needs to focus on the music and quality. Everyone is putting out crap, but not quality. With her vocals (disagree if you want ) fire lyrics and a good producer, we could get that second comeback that not many are expecting. I love her and wish her well and happiness and health. She's like a big sister to me, in that she's shown me a lot of things about life that most people don't teach. Also the Lambily, she's freaking family at this point. I dare you to disagree!

I remember that story. As talented as Mariah is, and I know this may come as a shock to some, she is occasionally wrong. I am glad JD insisted she sing full voice instead of whisper on WBT and glad MC listened. Can you imagine whisper vocals all throughout WBT? Yikes.

Re: (100,841) (100,843) by Stacey from USA
First off, I'm glad you love Charmbracelet.

The album tanked with the general public because Mariah overused the whisper vocal. The lyrics were screaming for that full voice vocal and does MC do? Whisper. CB is hard for me to listen to because I don't get that emotional release. What is MC known for? What made her dominate the 1990s? That voice. It's why when promotion began for TEOM, the slogan used was "Return of the Voice". Mariah is most successful when she uses all aspects of her voice (whisper, full voice, whistle.) But again, I've always argued CB was released as damage control. It gave Mariah a platform to explain what happened during her breakdown, get her airtime, which set her up for the real comeback: The Emancipation of Mimi. And for that last reason alone I'll always be grateful for Charmbracelet even if I don't personally care for the album.

Spot on Mirage. The overuse of the whisper register on Charmbraclet prompted JD to tell MC that he wanted her to sing full voice on We Belong Together.

Charmbracelet is a great album - I mean, c'mon! There are no fillers! The era showed us a more self-reflective and toned down Mariah and I don't mind the whispers. She was glowing and looked better and fitter than in any other era. She was doing exactly what she wanted. Shame we didn't get a single treatment for "The One" or "Subtle Invitation".

It sank because it was not what the general public expected and it didn't feature a song that had "big hit" written all over it. However, as a fan, I appreciate it being the way it is, mature and subtle. It presents early elements of TEOM with "Subtle Invitation" and nods to previous eras with "Lullaby". To be honest, I prefer a bold Mariah trying something different than a repetitive Mariah following formulaic recipes of success.
