Nodules (103,211) by Andrew from the UK
Guess what a doctor would say if you presented with nodules on your vocal chords: a) don't drink alcohol b) don't smoke cigarettes or marijuana c) do vocal exercises d) all of the above? When writing about Mariah's nodules there is an air of deception if the context seems to to solely blame nodules on the chords and deflect from Mariah's own behaviour. For, put simply, she has not looked after her voice.

The Price Sisters and Melonie - underrated gems (103,210) by Jamie from UK
This is what I miss about 90's music, background vocalist would be heavily added to tracks and in short parts usually towards the end would almost be the lead with the artist singing over them. I love Michael Bolton and he used this style, Everything Fades Away is a good example of this. I find it adds depth and texture to songs and can bring out more emotion in certain songs.

How cool would it be for Mariah to do one track with the Price Sisters and Melonie, and team up with Walter for writing and production. She's always going on about the nostalgia darrrrling so give us some nostalgia.

The Price Sisters and Melonie - underrated gems (103,209) by Bill from the UK
Yes, I remember Melonie not being on the backgrounds for Honey because she felt the lyrics were too suggestive. She's a devout Christian and as I understood it, Mariah kept her off any tracks that might have sailed a bit close to the wind with the lyrical content.

Nodules (103,208) by Terna from Nigeria
At this point, surgery is her only option and I do hope it is successful if true. The [ease] of singing would be restored, her tone would be so much fuller with a cleaner sound, just so many qualities she kept losing over time would be noticeably back. Mariah still has a very youthful or [young] sounding voice just held back by the nodules.

Where's Waldo (103,207) by Brad from USA
Wherever she is, we hope she is well and undertaking measures that will make her happy and keep her health well. Don't do it for the needs and joys of others, MC. Do it for your sake alone. We will always be here for the vast array of what you have already given to all of us. "If you ever need us, we're still here." A cobbled line a la "Subtle Invitation". So we wait.

The Price Sisters and Melonie - underrated gems (103,206) by Randy from USA
Yea, I do think they were awesome. But Kelly took some subtle digs about her vocal deterioration that I agreed with but didn't think was classy. And Melonie made a snide remark during an interview that "when I was there it wasn't no songs about touch my body", which I also didn't appreciate. Touch My Body to me is a comedy. A toned down version of WAP. It's meant for you to have fun to, not to take literally. Who really thinks MC wants anyone to touch her body? However, let me be clear. I feel like Trey and Mary Ann are talented but sycophants. They don't care about helping her with her voice or technique. They just say yes, diva and collect their checks.

What was the last music related award that Mariah received, that was not a lifetime achievement-esque related?

The Price Sisters and Melonie - underrated gems (103,203) by Bill from the UK
I don't feel like The Price Sisters and Melonie get their dues. During the mid-90s they were astonishingly good. I was listening to Merry Christmas (I know, I know, it's August), and I honestly believe they make the album what it is. Their backgrounds on O Holy Night, Jesus Oh What a Wonderful Child, Born On This Day, Joy to the World, Silent Night and of course AIWFCIY are phenomenal. Especially AIWFCIY. I'm sorry but that song would not be what it is without their stellar contribution. Then you have their vocals on Anytime You Need a Friend, Dreamlover, Everything Fades Away, Without You, the list goes on. Not to mention the remixes and how their vocal arrangements lift them to complete new heights. What a loss they were. We love Maryann but she's not a patch on those girls.

One can only dream. Many artists have had their nodules treated surgically like Justin Timberlake, Sam Smith, Tove Lo, Adele, Björk, Shirley Manson, Keith Urban, John Mayer and Rod Stewart.

Kelly Price (103,199) by Bobby A from United States
I got this wrong in not pulling out the CD or vinyl. They are still boxed up from my move. I really didn't read any CD liner notes until Butterfly. Lol. Maybe I am just still a little sour and defensive at Kelly for posting that vocal shade at MC some years ago. But I am guilty as well.

There is also a Mariah Carey Barbie Doll in the making. It will be made by Matel Signature Collection and will feature the doll wearing the red dress Mariah uses in the AIWFCIY (Make My Wish Come True) video.

Perfection (103,192) by Terna from Nigeria
I rarely indulge in those AI remakes of hers, especially covering other people's songs. However, this is a song written by Mariah, that has her signature sound I always wanted to hear her sing, since I know those are her own words and lets face it "Last Chance" is a really beautiful song, I wish she had kept for herself, I even feel it's a better ballad than some of the songs that made the final cut on "Butterfly" especially if she had given it that extra touch. This AI version is the closest we would ever have to her version (unless of course Mariah has an ace up her sleeve).

P.S. AI has been in music already for at least a decade with synthesizers, Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), all that is computer generated already anyway, it's just now focusing on the vocals which many even though don't want to admit use autotune, Melodyne etc. And now the ability to create whole songs using a "mosaic" so to speak of the said artist's singing.

Here's a question for you, William: if you could have AI-generated versions of Mariah's entire catalogue sung in the debut album voice, would you want it?

Perfection (103,190) by Andrew from the UK
Isn't it funny: we (mostly) all once have opined that it would be magical to hear Mariah's later songs in her original, unstrained voice - and AI has the ability to give us that. But now that it's here and possible, I am not certain I want it done. Moreover I am quite surprised nobody has thought to do it yet. AI for the advancement of medical science, I am all for. But we cannot allow art, literature, music and film to be computer generated: it takes away the core of what it is to be human and to express that condition in ways that touch others' (dare I say) souls. To create art in whatever medium is to stir emotion, to convey a feeling, to record an event in a way that is interpreted by the consumer of that art in a myriad of ways, dependent upon their own characteristics and experiences. A computer may have intelligence and extraordinary abilities but it cannot draw pr paint on cave walls, it cannot look to the stars and feel awe at the majesty of the expanse and the wonder of light, it cannot comprehend with humility the insignifance of the blip in time in which human civilisation has rise and will eventually fall, it cannot love or know loss. Or can it? I recall there was once a Queen musical called We Will Rock You which ran at the Dominion for about 10. It was shockingly awful. The story, however, is pretty on point now: the future was a fascist utopia above ground with rebels under ground (I know, groundbreaking, huh?). In the future utopia so-called "real music" is banned with music consumed by what the World Government would program. Instruments are banned. Since instruments are quite literally merely tools for expression and creation it is not hard now to envisage a world in the not-so-distant future where instruments, including the voice, are merely programmed and human creation seen as a threat to order. Perhaps the modern era we thought we lived in will very quickly will be looked upon as somewhat absurd and rather silly. "You mean, they actually acted back then? The painted stuff? You mean, they 'sang' in studios and recorded it?" It's a nauseating thought.

Kelly Price (103,188) by Bobby A from United States
Kelly Price recently did an interview with Vibe. She says during the recording of Daydream that it would just be her and MC in the studio. She says that vocals heard on Fantasy is all her and MC. I don't believe her. I don't hear Kelly Price at all on the album version of Fantasy. I have listened to Fantasy 6 times tonight and all I hear is MC doing lead and background vocals. Why now Kelly? Oh, I forgot that you are promoting the 25th anniversary of your album Soul of a Woman.
