I come on this board often; I comment very rarely. When I do comment, it's usually to note the negativity and nastiness of Mariah's "fans" here. Robert is always positive and civil - and he's respectful to Mariah even when perhaps giving constructive criticism. We could all learn from him and, as far as his frequent posts, this board would be dead without him.

AMAs performance (107,487)
by Edward from USA
| |

|
Performances like this are usually recorded multiple times from different angles, which can sometimes give the impression that playback was used. For instance, the VH1 duet of "With You I'm Born Again" with John Legend was taped 3 times, I know because I was in the audience. The woman performed one song, but she delivered it live. Credit where credit is due.

AMAs performance (107,483)
by Xavier mariohmix from Spain

Guys and girls, I don't wanna spoil the moment, but the performance is playback from beginning to end. Just like The Celebration of Mimi in Vegas (except for a couple of adlibs here and there). I'm afraid MC is not singing live again (at least for a while). The quality of her voice has worsened considerably in the past couple years, and live on stage is where she feels most stressed and insecure about it. So now she just plays it safe by rerecording everything in her current voice and having improved the lipping technique. At least we can enjoy lots of new vocals recorded in a studio. For what it's worth, I think I'm starting to be finally at peace with this.

Why WBT again? (107,482)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|

I wish she had done a deeper cut from TEOM, that would make the gp think in its 20th anniversary that the album is a timeless classic full of bops.
With that being said, it's amazing to see the new gen really feeling it. WB is a timeless pop song. It's amazing that it was created fairly quickly. She also looks great, which I think is part of the song's visuals.
Which makes me think that maybe her "Believe" is just around the corner, and with the right song, it's going to come out of nowhere with a bang like Cher did.

I don't think I was uncivilized or disrespectful towards Mariah. Actually I know I wasn't. I just answered to his question why are we, it this case, me, so quiet lately on this messageboard.
I have a right to my own opinion and it is what it is. Some people have a lot emotions and love reviving old things. Is it annoying for me to see that? Very. That is why I was quiet.
Am I enjoying that everyone is writing about perfect AMA's performance where the love from crowd was mesmerizing? Very.

She killed it. And I love the new interpretation of the song and how she's adjusted that final octave leap to fit her voice today. That final sustain hasn't been this clear in years.

The mike was definitely on. We have to give her credit for this performance. If you look closely, paying attention to her mouth, neck and demeanor, you can tell when she's lipping. To be honest, judging by recent performances, I thought it would be more of the same, but I'm glad to have been proven wrong. I'm a happy for her.

First, MC sounded and looked amazing last night. Second, I am not going anywhere anytime soon. However, I am going to scale back my posts until another fabulous Mimi moment like last night brings us back to get together in delight. I was clinging to MC's every note last night. I even heard those subtle transition notes on the second verse.

by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

I rewatched the performance multiple times and it just warms my heart to see Mariah slowly but surely gaining her confidence back. I also loved the different arrangements she did in some parts of the song. How is this song almost 2 decades old but still gives people goosebumps? What a modern classic. Mariah looked like a true glamorous Hollywood diva. I'm so happy for her. She's been going through such a difficult time in the past few months and the fact that she's finding peace in her music, performance and fans is amazing to see. Not to mention the GP can't seem to get enough of her. She'll truly always be a queen.

Oouufff Mariah on fire. She looked so beautiful. Hair, makeup, dress everything on point. She looks like a cross between Charmbracelet and TEOM Mariah. She looked so endearing standing there trying to give it her all, I got emotional seeing her. WBT will always be that girl, the moment the intro notes starts everyone loses their mind. It's great to see everyone having a good time and singing along with her. She said she did the DFAU intro as an homage to her 2005 AMAs performance and it sounded good tbh.
