Article: Lovari features Mariah Carey remake (89,460) by Steven Berning from USA
His voice is so, so, so, so horrible. How the heck is he legit? That was painful to listen to. That was comparable to the crazy singers on American Idol, during the opening auditions, who have no idea how atrocious they are until Simon Cowell goes in on them lol.

Re: BMA vocal analysis (89,453) (89,459) by Randy from USA
I'm just curious. After 30 years of singing all around the world and in front of presidents, at star funerals and on live television, why are nerves still a valid excuse for someone considered one of the best singers of all time?

Re: BMA vocal analysis (89,453) (89,458) by Special K from USA
I thought those guys were fair and made good points. They did mention nerves. I'm generalizing but they felt when Mariah's nerves kicked in, that is when she would push too hard on the vocals which caused the pitch and lack of control issues. Like they stated it's obvious either Mariah currently has nodules or had them in the past which is contributing to the deterioration of her voice. Personally I thought they were spot on about Mariah humbling herself, accepting her current voice, and working with a vocal coach that will get her voice healthy and in top condition. It was repeated a few times that Mariah's voice is not healthy. It was also pointed out that Mariah can still hit the high notes with ease and what was really interesting is they pointed out that Mariah's lower registry was in top form and they didn't understand why she doesn't make adjustments and incorporate her lower registry more while singing live. Fans don't want to hear it but I actually agreed "to a certain degree" with dude when he said Mariah was lazy and perhaps riding on her name, but then he seemed to change his tune reiniterating that he knows she works hard, etc. They also discussed why the pitch dropped during WBT because she was out of breath and also pointing out why Mariah can't hold a consistent clear flow singing ABMB. Bottom line, Mariah has got to set her priorities straight taking the necessary steps to get her voice healthy again and adjusting to the changes in her voice. She can do it, but it's going to take dedication, hard work, and humility.

She sings like that on tour. The nerves thing has been played out, although it course they would show at a big moment like that. She's been in the game long enough to slay those big moments. The best ones do. I hope she takes a break after the European leg of Caution and the Vegas residency that she's doing "One mo gen". At some point she needs to address the voice or at least rest it for a couple of years. Constantly pushing through to keep paying her entourage is self defeating.

I agree it's a fair reaction.

I definitely respect his constructive criticism; he usually is very good about picking apart an artist's voice without bashing, it's a very honest assessment. He also reacted to Mariah's famous 1992 "If It's Over" performance and he was absolutely floored.

Re: BMA vocal analysis (89,452) (89,453) by Shezz from Pk
I tried to watch it all but it's still very awkward almost cringe for me when someone picks Mariah's vocals apart - let alone for 25 minutes. Of course their technical analysis were nothing to be contested with and I could't watch it all so I don't know but do they mention nerves at all? I feel they played a huge part in the performance and she repeatedly said after the performance and several interviews that she wasn't happy at all with her performance and that she was way too nervous to sing the way she does at her concerts. The video sounded as though they were judging this performance to judge where stands in general now. I feel she still does pretty well in tours.

BMA vocal analysis (89,452) by Will from England
I follow this voice teacher on YouTube and he does great in-depth analysis' of various singers, what they are doing well, where they can improve, and he did a reaction to Mariah's recent performance, and I think it's a fair reaction to her voice.

Re: Vocal texture (89,444) (89,451) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
The great thing about judging how spectacular a Mariah performance is is that they can only be compared to her previous ones and not other artists'. Peak Mariah is the bar for many others, but most especially herself. And even if her performances from here on out are less impressive, less consistent and less impactful, they only are such compared to what she did over a decade or two ago, and they still hold their own against younger singers such as Bey, Ariana, Kelly, Christina, etc. who may riff out and hit higher notes with such ease, but their efforts still end up lacking the gravitas that Mariah's voice still holds. It's that unique, golden tone, weathered and leathery as it is today, that still holds much more conviction that most out there. Now that Whitney isn't around, any of these other artists hitting a C5 in full chest voice still feels less resonant and less glorious than when Mariah hits them. The advantage of Mariah's diminished capability to deliver runs like it were the Olympics is that she is forced to use them sparingly, so that when she does try and hit them and nails them, they leave much more of an impact than when other female singers deliver run after run after run. Even today, the other singers can compete, but cannot compare. Mariah may have lost a significant deal of the ease, fluidity, and the range, but has lost none of the character, emotiveness and heft of her voice.

Article: Mariah Carey gets emotional during acceptance speech (89,449) by Travis from USA
This Billboard Icon moment was emotional for me (I'm not going to lie) because it's well deserved for so many reasons. I can't believe that Jennifer Lopez got this honor before Mariah, but no shade. The performance medley was absolutely amazing and even though Mariah had a couple cracks here and there, it's normal, and she absolutely killed it 100% live, on a award show, which is rare. The biggest highlight for me was the fact that the fans and the entire audience of celebrities were giving Mariah the respect that she deserved, was dancing and singing along, but also truly celebrating her worth in the music industry. Normally when Mariah is at a rewards show, the audience is usually boring and just don't care. Here's to the fabulous Mariah and to what the future brings. Lots of love and lamb always.

Fun little story (89,448) by Chris from United States
When my husband came home from work yesterday, he told me that one of his assistants was saying that Mariah sounded horrible during her performance, and that she should just quit already. He then proceeded with "well, that's what she said before she fell and hurt herself badly enough to have to go home early. Not really sure when she's returning." I'm pretty sure it's safe to say God's got MC's back, lol.

Billboard Music Awards (89,447) by Giovanni from USA
Mariah looked amazing and gave a very good speech. She had a diva moment but kept it classy and was humble. There was a lot of love and respect there that night and she deserved it. She's paved the way for so many and has inspired a whole new generation of singers. In my opinion she was the highlight of the night. Nobody will ever match her voice or her music.

Article: Mariah Carey gets emotional during acceptance speech (89,446) by Betty from Canada
I didn't think that MC could top her 1999 speech for BBMA's Artist Of The Decade but she did because "she has come a long way" like she previously said and she is no where near done.

Re: Vocal texture (89,442) (89,445) by Musti from UK
I'm impressed how quickly she recovered from the crack on "feeling". She really pulled it together with those two bursts of "higher". The great Maria Callas had once said, "You are born an artist or you are not. And you stay an artist, dear, even if your voice is less of a fireworks." There are so many parallels between the careers of these two MCs. Mariah will still be an unmatched artist at 90 with only 2 notes left in her voice.

Re: Vocal texture (89,442) (89,444) by Andrew from London UK
Agreed. Mariah is never going to deliver anything spectacular anymore. But it genuinely felt like she and the crowd acknowledged that and she's moved to just being loved for being Mariah Carey and indispensable. I loved it. Love love loved it. When she threw the tissue I howled with laughter. My girl right there. I love you, Mariah. Despite being your fiercest critic. You reminded me why you're a legend and that, once upon a time, in ages passed, in 1993, I recognised your greatness. And a lifetime obsessing over you was a lifetime well spent. Well spent. So proud. You were always iconic to me.

I loved the BBMA performance and speech. I adored the opening of "Emotions". That rasp and the way she said the first "higher" is why I love her and her voice.

Billboard Icon (89,440) by Terna from Nigeria
Congratulations are in order for Mariah Carey. I loved everything about the performance to the ensemble, looking very classy and seeing the other stars fangirling over this true legend made my heart smile. I still remember when I became a fan a long time ago and the very moment I chose to be unapologetic about my love for Mariah. Years later I'm still very much a Lamb, lol and boy am I so proud of this woman, proud to have come on this journey with her and still support and pray for her and be here for her years later. A true definition of a fighter and a hero. And yes her music has saved my life in so many ways than one. That acceptance speech was everything. When she said we her fans pulled her out of the depths of hell and brought her back, wow I lost it. I felt that in my soul.

Re: BBMA (89,438) (89,439) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I actually liked the performance, as imperfect and shaky as it was. She could easily have lipped the entire thing, but she didn't. And no, I'm not just appreciating the fact that she opted to perform 95% live just because I know she could have mimed, but because the cracks and struggles she had throughout the performance humanized her and inadvertently played really well into the narrative of her speech. For the first time in a long time, a Mariah TV appearance has been almost universally liked and even loved. Social media and various entertainment sites really lit up with praises of how much she deserves it. The general public didn't mind that it wasn't her best performance. They were just overwhelmingly positive about her appearance overall, and that, along with her best awards acceptance speech since 1999, made the moment even more special and moving, seeing how everybody was reacting. It's the most Mariah love I have witnessed in a while (worldwide) and I am just so touched that we were so lucky to experience such warm acceptance again, even if it were just for that moment.

The speech was on point. I'm happy Mariah got the Icon Award. She truly deserves it. However I hated her performance. I pretend it didn't happen.

iTunes it's good to see (89,437) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
It's good to see MC's Greatest Hits and #1 to Infinity compilations, as well as "Hero", "A No No" and "WBT" all back on the Canadian iTunes. It's fun to see how TV appearances effect music sales (and when it doesn't effect the sales, it's a bummer). Again, congrats Mimi on a stellar performance and speech that's getting praise across all media and platforms.
