Re: If septic tanks could sing (89,643) (89,658) by Tijl from Belgium
Andrew, you are so right. This must Madonna's "Glitter moment". A major end to a big career. It was atrocious and very sad.

Butterfly album in 1997. Hooked for weeks. Still feel the same emotions from back then when I hear "The Roof".

The Daydream CD was my first Mariah purchase and started my obsession with Mariah.

Re: First Mariah item (89,648) (89,655) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
First album I bought was Butterfly, then I bought Daydream from my own brother, after that I got Music Box from a friend, then I bought Heartbreaker as a single, got Rainbow for Christmas. When Loverboy came out I bought that, and was certain when I bought Glitter it would be a smash.

When I went to London for the Charmbracelet tour, I went to a Virgin Mega Store and bought everything I didn't have in my collection. Have bought every single and every album since, except Merry Christmas II You.

Is "Baby Got Me Like" supposed to be ABMB? I'm confused.

Re: First Mariah item (89,648) (89,651) by TJ from Norway
The first item I bought was her debut album. The second one was the MTV Unplugged, and later Emotions (I had that album recorded on a cassette). I remember that I found the CD single of "Vision of love " in Copenhagen in 1992 but didn't buy it. I have regretted that decision ever since. I started collecting in 1993 when I bought "Dreamlover". Suddenly I had like 150 different CDs and singles.

Re: First Mariah item (89,648) (89,650) by Edward from USA
The first thing I purchased from Mariah was the "Daydream" album in cassette format. Yes, I was bored sitting in an almost empty classroom with my headphones on when "Open Arms" came on. That voice, so soothing, so angelic, so melodic, captivated me. Imagine my surprise when I then realized that I had "Mariah Carey", "Emotions" "MTV Unplugged" and "Music Box" to binge on. I discovered "Merry Christmas" later when I heard "All I Want From Christmas Is You" at a Computer Show. All this happen not in the US, but in Dominican Republic, where we only had two radio stations that played music in English at that time, and a few stores that sold CD's and cassettes from the most popular music in English. How I wished we had mp3 players back then, I used to carry all this effing cassettes and then CD's with me in my backpack. Buying batteries for my walk-man and then disc-man made a hole in my pocket, lol. Those were the days.

First Mariah item (89,648) by Bill from the UK
Continuing the theme, I'd be really interested to know what everybody's first purchased Mariah item was. I remember seeing the Dreamlover cassette for 99p in the local record shop but, for reasons I still can't understand to this day, opted for Janet Jackson's If. Then I nearly got the Hero cassette but didn't have enough pocket money left (curse Woolworths and their pick n mix), and in the end my first item was the Without You cassette. I played it so much the tape wore out and got chewed up and I begged my mum to buy me another one. My end of the bargain was to do the washing up all week hah. I still have the chewed up version for sentimental reasons lol. Don't think I could ever part with it.

Yes, and Madonna once and for all proved she cannot sing. It was one of the most cringe worthy performances this century.

Congratulations Webmaster for winning Eurovision.

It was strange when Israeli host mentioned Mariah when they were "guessing" who will perform during the grand final voting. PS Congrats Netherlands.

Speaking of the Netherlands, I'm coming to visit there for a few short days among a few other stops along the way. As an American visiting there, what would you recommend seeing as the "musts". I will be traveling with my husband and 12 year old daughter. I will be coming in late June through early July.

If septic tanks could sing (89,643) by Andrew from London UK
At Mariah's worst, she kicks Madonna's ass. That was awful. If septic tanks could sing, they'd have one up on this gimmick of a shit show.

The most noteworthy thing about it was that Madonna had no stage presence. There was no gravitas. No awe. Which is surprising. I am certain people would scream and cry over Mariah.

So Eric, dearest. I didn't watch it and planned to watch it on catch up, avoiding all news networks. I thought MCA would be a safe bet. Evidently not. However, given our historic banter on the subject, I'll give you this one. Congrats. I haven't yet looked, but I'll guess the United Kingdom is bottom five? In all seriousness, congrats.

AIWFCIY 19th No.1 (89,640) by Will from Australia
I read somewhere that said All I Want has a long lead up this year in the charts before Christmas Day, like 6 days from Billboards last chart which will give it a massive chance of making it higher than last years #3. With it also being the 25th Anniversary of the song and Merry Christmas.

I first became a fan when Emotions was playing in the charts and the first time I heard it was while I was a 10 year old running around the house and the video was playing on the TV and literally stopped me in my tracks and I'm obsessed about Mariah from there on.

Congratulations. And who would believe that Norway ended up at number 5? Too bad for Sweden (who was my favourite, next to Azerbaijan). Australia was lovely. Madonna on the other hand. I'm a big fan of her, but no.

Mariah's voice (89,636) by Giovanni from USA
We all know Mariah's voice isn't what it used to be and I'm sure she knows it well. There are a lot of voices that aren't what they used to be. Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Jo Jo, Leona Lewis, Kelly Clark's son even Celine Dion doesn't even sound the same anymore. And in time neither will Ariana Grande. It's called ageing, vocal damage and nodules. I do wish Mariah had taken better care of her voice. The best time she can do is get a vocal coach if she hasn't already. In my opinion Mariah remains unmatched in voice and as a singer. God gave her a special kind of voice. Nobody will ever come close.
