Re: Fly abandonedly into the rainbow (90,422) (90,425) by Tijl from Belgium
I feel you Andrew. The day of the Antwerp concert in 1999 (don't mention our age) of the Rainbow tour I was so excited. I couldn't believe I was going to be in the same space as my idol. A shame though that the first concert of the European leg was such a mess. She was two hours late and most of the props needed on stage hadn't arrived from the US yet. But I couldn't care less at the time despite it not being a great concert. But she did redeem herself with the stop of the Charmbracelet tour in Rotterdam in 2003. That show, despite being on a much smaller scale, had very high production values and her voice was on fire that night. I wish I could see her in Vegas one time but my bank manager begs to differ. For now.

Warner Bros. issued a press release stating that "Migrate" would be the theme song for the highly anticipated release of Justice League: Snyder Cut. Stay tuned.

Re: Obsessed re-enters iTunes chart (90,421) (90,423) by jaker20 from US
Glitter being number 1 at iTunes is great, it's good for the album's visibility and bragging rights. But iTunes is irrelevant. It becoming Apple chart is their way of phasing it out so they can fully push their streaming service. Sorry but just saying the truth.

Re: Fly abandonedly into the rainbow (90,420) (90,422) by Andrew from London UK
I remember being in school and it was a boiling hot day. And for the whole day I couldn't concentrate because Mariah Carey was in my country and I couldn't believe how close I was to her. I faced London and played Daydream when I got home. Don't nobody tell me I don't love Mariah some. Can't nobody, can't nobody tell me nuttin'.

iTunes charts will not be irrelevant, as they will become the Apple Charts, so slow your role. And yes, I applaud the person that wrote "iTunes is irrelevant, except when Glitter was #1 on it". Hahaha. As a matter of fact, I always see the younger generation talking about iTunes and Spotify charts way before they talk about the Billboard charts. So perhaps it is Billboard that is irrelevant now.

Yeh the Rainbow tour was a mess. Especially as it followed on from the Daydream tour. I was there, June 23rd, 1996. One of the best nights of my life. Don't know if I've ever mentioned that.

Re: Fly abandonedly into the rainbow (90,417) (90,419) by B from USA
Sony wanted to release X-Girlfriend as the third single and Mariah wanted CTTA (Mariah's Theme) released instead so Sony released it but gave it a limited release with zero promotion. I understand why Mariah didn't want to release X-Girlfriend since it sounded like No Scrubs and Bills, Bills, Bills but it would've been a stronger single.

Mariah Carey is not worried about "Old Town Road" (90,418) by B from USA
When asked if she's worried about it breaking her record she responded in typical Mariah fashion with a simple "dahling" and when asked if she would jump on an Old Town Road remix she said, "Nobody wants to hear that remix." I don't think that record was that important to her because she shares it with Boys [sic] II Men and it was tied by Dishitpato [sic].

Re: Fly abandonedly into the rainbow (90,416) (90,417) by Tijl from Belgium
Hey Bill, TAAO remake with Westlife was a clever action but limited to the UK. On the continent the original album version was released and had some moderate success in a few countries but for the remains of the singles everything fell flat. And the European tour didn't receive great reviews either. I believe she was very disappointed with the lack of support by Sony and she started to work herself into the ground trying to make the best of it, leading up to the Glitter fiasco.

Re: Fly abandonedly into the rainbow (90,414) (90,416) by Bill from the UK
I don't completely agree. Certainly the UK branch did a great move in shoving Westlife onto Against All Odds which scored Mariah a number one record here and boosted sales of Rainbow during its ending run on the chart. The question I would ask is, was Mariah that heavily invested in promoting it, or did she simply want to sever ties and move on with the film and her new label? As people have said, the album is fine but in reality none of the tracks except Heartbreaker held a candle to her prior material, which was all AAA rated.

Although I like Old Town Road, I never thought this particular song would break her record, but it did and there's not much we can do about it. It was going to happen eventually. Nonetheless no one can take away all that she's accomplished. I agree Edward about being glad it's been broken. I'd like her to make great music without feeling the pressure to relive former glory.

Re: Fly abandonedly into the rainbow (90,406) (90,414) by Tijl from Belgium
The promotion of Rainbow was a mess because of the strained relationship with Sony. Heartbreaker got a strong launch with a very expensive video but after that it went downhill. I saw the first concert of the European leg of the Rainbow tour in Antwerp and in all honesty it was a mess. I really believe she loved the album but the difficult situation with the powers that be had the momentum fading out quickly. After TGIFY none of the other singles received any decent promotion.

Re: Old Town Road 16 weeks (90,409) (90,410) by Edward from USA
To be honest, I want this record to be broken, no more pressure. Records are meant to be broken. It's sad that, with the way things are with streaming and all, a shitty song is about to break it. I guess I made my peace with knowing there's not Mariah second coming, and I'm ok with that. As long as she keeps on making some good music, I'm ok with it.

Even though I don't want a shitty song to break the record, I'm happy it's about to be broken. I want "Migrate" to be released as a single soon too, so we won't keep regurgitating the fact it wasn't one on this board ever again. It's time we focus on the "You Don't Know What To Do" should've been a single mantra from now on.

Old Town Road 16 weeks (90,409) by S from England
This song has now spent it's 16th week at number 1. It's a threat and I hate to say this - but I think it will spend a 17th too.

Re: Fly abandonedly into the rainbow (90,406) (90,408) by B from USA
Agreed. It pales in comparison to Daydream and Butterfly. Heartbreaker, Mariah's Theme, and After Tonight are also my favorite songs from the album. After watching Mariah perform it live I grown found of the original TGIFY (even though I still believe the Make It Last remix is the best version of the song and the reason it became a #1). I also love Petals. It's a decent album, Mariah's never made a bad album.

That's pretty much what I said, yet you called my thoughts nonsense. What gives, lol. But I digress.

Regardless Rainbow has its place in Mariah's evolution as an artist and I'm grateful she released it. While it's not one of my favorite albums, there are songs from that album I love (Heartbreaker, CTTA, After Tonight, Crybaby (an underrated gem), Petals). I might put these songs while I do my dishes. I hate dishes. Life of a mom with kids, I suppose. Carey on.

Re: Fly abandonedly into the rainbow (90,401) (90,406) by Andrew from London UK
I am not denying that it is folklore that Mariah moved to get the job done without interruption. What I am denying is that it is sub par work because she chose to get the job done without interruption. She was proud of Rainbow. She promoted the crap out of it. But whilst it is a good album, it is not good in comparison to its predecessors.

That's all good but iTunes is literally irrelevant. No.900 is probably less than 100 downloads or something. iTunes will be discontinued soon.

Mr grinch, nobody mentioned you. I will give you a call when Mariah dies so you can smile for once.

Everything I said is true, who has a better catalogue than Mariah? Michael is a close second. Her songs do climb worldwide whenever someone covers her songs in those music competitions.

Mariah's own words on the production of Rainbow: "I love New York. But if I'm there, I want to go out, friends come to the studio, the phone rings constantly. But in Capri, I am in a remote place, and there is no one I can run into. I felt that in Capri I would be able to effectively finish the album on a shorter schedule. And I did. I made it in three months, I was like 'Get me off this label.' I couldn't take it. The situation there [Sony] was becoming increasingly difficult."
