Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (92,354) by RibbonB from USA
Congrats to Whitney, Biggie and N.N and others for being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Too bad for Chaka Khan, she deserves it.

Re: Article: Mariah Carey supports Tyler Perry at premiere in NYC (92,348) (92,353) by We are Lambily from USA
Once again here goes men complaining about how a grown women choose to dress. The dress was beautiful, Mariah looked so good and happy.

I once saw another male lamb complain and looked into his account and honestly 70% of his pics were of his non existing abs.

Andrew, heterosexual and bisexual people (me) love to see them. Deal with it, seek counsel.

If Mariah died today, what do you think she would be remembered as?

Re: 100% as second single after Obsessed (92,347) (92,351) by Edward from USA
It didn't have anything to do with the powers that be, it just was recorded right after Memoirs had already been released. I like 100%, but let's be honest, the song is good and inspirational, but it was more of the same fast singing type song. Nothing wrong with it, but WBT, SIO, BB, and ISIL have already used that technique, it was tired at that point. And remember, ever since TEOM, Mariah is about 75% of the powers that be when it comes to her music, and when she doesn't get her way, she doesn't have any problem letting you know.

Re: 100% as second single after Obsessed (92,349) (92,350) by Bill from the UK
IWTKWLI was, in many countries, her best charting single since Touch My Body, and she gave some brilliant live performances of the song at the time, plus, the loose brown curls of the debut era returned which was beautiful. 100% was again, another samey rehash in the key of Bye Bye, I Stay In Love etc. The best song from Memoirs was Ribbon, and that should have been the second (or even first) single. The harmonies on the middle 8 are divine.

Re: 100% as second single after Obsessed (92,347) (92,349) by Musti from UK
It is a shame this song never got included anywhere and just fell off the map. It's one of my favourite songs from the Memoirs era. Not sure it would've been a good choice as second single though. Of course neither was I Want to Know What Love Is, but at least it gave her phenomenal success in Brazil. I wish she released Inseparable, which is an outstanding song and could've had a strong presence in the market with the right promotion in my opinion. I like Trey's input on the remix too, even if the cut&paste could've been better polished.

The bottom half of her dress is, indeed, super cute. But the top half seems to be missing. Again.

100% as second single after Obsessed (92,347) by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia
I wonder why the powers that be at that time did not include 100% in the Memoirs album. This song would be the best follow up single after Obsessed. And the song was meant originally to be the theme song of Precious, but was pulled off last minute. If the song remained as the theme song of Precious, the song might had a chance to be nominated for Oscar or Golden Globe. I think the song I Want To Know What Love Is was too bland, uninspiring and too safe after the controversial single, Obsessed.

Important recordings (92,346) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
Mariah has proven to be a very versatile artist tackling different genres of music throughout her storied career. But if I had to choose what recordings are most important to her career I would say these three in no particular order.
1.Vision Of Love was the introduction to the world of who Mariah Carey was, also this song become an inspiration for other female vocalists. It was also a popular song on both sides of the spectrum of pop and R&B.
2. Fantasy. This song in particular brought the Hip-pop formula to the mainstream and has been a staple ever since.
3. All I Want For Christmas is you. This song has taken a life of its own and become a timeless Christmas classic, and has gained more popularity than many other standard Christmas songs.

Re: Important recordings (92,315) (92,345) by Will from Australia
Love a list Bill. Definitely those three but I'd also include I'll Be There, as they were afraid her popularity was fading in the US at the time of it and there was all this conjecture of her only being a studio artist who need bells and whistles (pun intended) to create what she did. I'll Be There rocked her into the new opinion of Mariah the performer in the general public's eyes.

I Know What You Want was also career defining as being the first big hit post Glitter that made her look somewhat cool to the kids.

I'd also include WBT alongside It's Like That as the Dupri effect. It's Like That did all the heavy lifting in making Mariah even more likeable again before the monster hit of WBT.

Re: Mariah (92,328) (92,344) by We are Lambily from USA
I honestly thought her lead song was cute, her music is not my cup of tea. But I admire the type of women she is, she been through a lot and I love survivors. But a lot of lambs laugh/criticise at Mariah pure sales when in fact the biggest superstars don't sell that much better. The younger generation don't buy music (rarely they do) and the older generation don't stream (rarely they do). Mariah needs to cater to the younger audience more, a [sic] album for grown people (even though many young lambs love it).

Re: Charmbracelet singles (92,320) (92,343) by Nikki from usa
Nothing would've done well in the States with Mottola bribing radio directors to keep her off the air. In spite of all of that, Through the Rain was one of the best selling singles of 02 and its remix hit #1 on the dance chart. Had sales counted for more than 25% of tallies then her track would've charted higher.

Re: Bill / Migrate (92,325) (92,342) by Nikki from usa
She has a few times with Migrate. A news clip was shown with Mariah walking away and someone asked her if Migrate would be a single. She rolled her eyes and said, "It's not a "Mariah Carey" single." It didn't sound like she was in agreement. It sounded like sarcasm. Mariah was pretty vocal about Bye Bye, not being the best follow up to Touch My Body. Although, she was even more vocal about the Foreigner's remake not being a good single choice. It's pretty clear that her label wanted Mariah to stay in the vein of balladeer. It makes little sense to not release Migrate when it's already charting on the Hot 100 of its own accord.

What about Whitney? People constantly thought Mariah's songs were Whitney singing.

Yes, he is tired, tired. She's even more a legend now and look at him. Girl that Waffle House waffle was so flat, tired and flavorless, kinda like JT, so yeah, appropriate.

Re: Important recordings (92,331) (92,339) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I included WBT because while Mariah very much held her own during the battle of the divas in the 90s, the teen-pop and Latin-pop wave towards the end of that decade ushered in a new generation of fans, and the 90s divas started to get weeded out one by one. Only Janet, Madonna and Mariah were left standing. Janet suffered post Nipplegate, and Madonna was a different artist, so Mariah was the only real diva vocalist left as Whitney was in a dark place and Celine just wasn't bringing the hits anymore. The fact that Mariah was able to take her diva-pop into that decade and was able to captivate a new legion of younger fans by the strength of WBT (and, to a lesser extent, the singles that followed) which unintentionally stood out from what was in the airwaves in 2004-2005. It was refreshing to both the older fans and the younger ones. If we're going by influence, it's the Mariah hit that newer R&B starlets like Ella Mai, SZA, H.E.R. etc. actually consciously grew up listening to.

Charmbracelet singles (92,338) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Sorry, as much as I actually enjoy Charmbracelet, it is one of Mariah's least radio-friendly albums (if not the least) mostly due to her thinner, more airy whispering then. The songs are lovely but most don't really lend themselves well to radio. Considering the current music landscape at the time of release, I feel like the only songs that stood a chance were:

1. Through The Rain (if only for its message and how it plays into Mariah's storyline in 2002)
2. The One (since J.Lo's All I Have was a hit that winter, this would have done well)
3. You Got Me (nice, playful summer bop to be released after the popularity of I Know What You Want has started to die down, which was dropped in the spring of 2003)
4. Yours (sounds like an early autumn track; a shortened, remixed version with JT who was huge at the time)

I've been going to Waffle House my whole life and I have never gotten the waffles. They look disappointing. Lol.

Twat waffle was the nicest thing I could come up with. Before boobgate he just always came off too cocky to me. I'll never ever deny his talent, but personality wise I was never for him. Boobgate just gave me more of a reason to dislike him. If the rumor was true that he didn't work with Mariah on Yours because he felt she was a has been, that really put the nail in the coffin. Even at her lowest point she was still a legend and you don't disrespect a legend like that .

Twat waffle though? By the way, I had my first Waffle House waffle while working in Cincinnati for a week. Those waffles are truly trash. JT has always been meh IMO. Even before boobgate.

Re: Important recordings (92,329) (92,331) by Bill from the UK
Thank you everybody for your replies. I did of course consider We Belong Together, however, I felt the other three brought about industry and generational changes to music. Those of you who weren't around in the early 90s need to understand that (caps) nobody (end caps) had ever sung the way Mariah did before. Sure Minnie had her whistles and Aretha had her runs, but neither really used them to good musical effect like Mariah did. Now every female singer post-Mariah mimicks her style. AIWFCIY is self explanatory really, and Fantasy Remix because again, it was so left field and had never, ever been done on that scale before. Remember again where we were at the time. This was the balladeer, who sang about heroes in long black dresses, married to the boss of Sony, duetting with ODB from Wu Tang. It was an incredible, never to be matched, genius stroke that shaped pop music for the future right there and then. After those three songs, things would never be the same.

Re: Geek alert: UK singles ranking (92,324) (92,330) by Bill from the UK
It was ready for release, but was pulled at the last minute because of nervousness around how the UK audience would react to it, what with it being her most heavy R&B/hip hop flavoured number at that point in time.
