I don't disagree with you. Butterfly is a beautiful album lyrically, very poetic. But it's not my favourite album either.

Stripped performance (92,525)

I like this performance of We Belong Together. I remember watching other songs performed at that same show like ABMB and loving it. Band was tight, she sounded great, and it was mixed well. Sometimes the mixing can make or break it.

If you don't care than why write up a post? You don't want to know the facts, but Walter automatically wins? I can't speak for anyone else, but I find Walter's description a bit weird. Several of his initial interviews he claims Mariah already had a "rough draft". He took it and tried to re-produce it. Didn't like it. Tried again, but Mariah decided to stick with her original version. I'm not sure how 2 failed attempts at producing equals a producer's credit, much less a songwriting credit. I'm not sure how Walter "boogy-ing" on the piano turned into a 1960's song. I don't know why a musician who plays the piano would go into a studio to create the music through a soundboard instead of the live music he always records. The studio soundboard are for those who don't have a grasp on instruments. I also can't grasp why Walter claimed she was in an apartment in the Hamptons, where she hasn't lived since before her wedding, when she'd been living in the mansion she wasn't allowed to leave for the past year.

Mariah hasn't had a legit plagiarism suit since Emotions. Those songs remained "stolen" for all of 6 months, but not one of them is for songwriting. You guys like to throw the words "numerous" and "many" around when, in reality, this all came from the same project before she understood copyrights. Music sampling is legal, but when it comes to intellectual property there's proper channels to go through, otherwise it's illegal. That's also a major problem YouTuber's have when they try to spoof songs. However, they weren't under the thumb of numerous executives who chose their singles, but didn't bother to tell them anything about the legal side of things. But, do conveniently pop up to take credit for their success. Nonetheless, Mariah was also the one to reach out to those people to pay for future, present, and past damages. She was the one to reach out to the creator of her Emotions sample and ask what he was hollering about, and then called up the other who had no idea she had sampled their stuff. Had she kept her trap shut, nothing would've happened. She didn't do that. Mariah has also had plenty of (warranted) lawsuits thrown out.

Mariah and Packer (92,521)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|
|
I think Mariah gave up on love after Nick. We've all heard "The Impossible". I don't think she believed she'd find love again. So, then it becomes about finding someone to grow old with and have good conversations for some folks. I do think Packer wanting to pay Mariah to be his wife threw her through a loop. Marrying for companionship is one thing, but it's not supposed to be its own business.

Wow, that's crazy. I'm sure stuff like that really does happen, though, because there is a lot of money at stake. They probably do pay "influencers" to sway people into thinking things are good or bad. Maybe they even go into fan forums and comment sections and post negative comments about every single little thing artists do to try to turn the tide. And it goes both ways.
I hate trash talking but the prime example that comes to mind is Jennifer Lopez. Nobody has anything bad to say about her on shows, even Wendy Williams who talks crap about everyone has nothing negative to say about her. Jennifer looks good; has beautiful clothes; and great production in her performances, songs, and videos; but she's not an exceptionally talented singer, songwriter, dancer, actress, or anything. It makes me wonder why she's so exalted. She plays the exact same character in every role and her singing is cringeworthy. There has got to be some money exchanging hands for all this positive press she gets.
After I finished writing my last post I went and watched Jennifer Lopez when she was on The Wendy Williams show and she actually does seem like a nice, humble person so I can see why people like her. I really do feel bad for hating on her but at least I don't do it on a Jennifer Lopez fan forum.
I love Mariah as an artist and as a person. She's been a part of my life since 1990 when I was 6 or 7 years old. Sometimes she does things I don't love (I Don't video) but eventually I end up appreciating it because I love her. To me all of her albums are timeless masterpieces. That's why I come here.
Sidenote: I love Mariah's hair the way it is right now. Please don't change it.

Roger (92,518)
by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)

His issue with MC is that she no longer wants no parts of him, he has had it out for MC since she let Cindi and PMK go from representation, ever since then he has been on a negative campaign, and to add fuel to that when they seen each other at an industry event during the nightmare era, Stella tried to keep him away from Mariah the entire time. Not to mention he claims that he was given the wrong contact information to reach MC. Not to say that MC is above the law but his point in mentioning lawsuits was to discredit MC notice he has not done this to any previous inductees. Again Roger is sucking on sour grapes.

Butterfly (92,517)

Am I the only one who just likes Butterfly but would rather listen to several of her other albums? Like I get the significance of it to her, yada yada, but I just don't rant and rave about it like other lambs do. Don't get me wrong, I love so much of it but I personally don't think it's her best album. Daydream would be my hand in heart perfect album from her but I even prefer Music Box, TEOM, MOAIA and E=MC2 to it. Even Heartbreaker is a better uptempo than Honey to me.

Butterfly vs Caution (92,516)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
Butterfly is definitely more poetic than Caution but Caution is great too, in its own way. Mariah doesn't make bad albums. I agree that the songs are about Bryan, Stella, and Packer. I don't even think the Packer thing was even real, in hindsight. He was the rebound guy and he looked good on paper but I doubt she was ever really in love with him.
On The Art of Letting Go, I like how parts are kinda clunky. I feel like when you're angry and emotional your thoughts are kinda clunky and jumbled. I thought it was pretty genius that she made it that way.

New haircut, maybe, for 2020 (92,515)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

I was looking at Celine's new hairstyle for her latest album Caution, I mean Courage. Hehe. She looks great with that. So I'm wondering maybe M could do a little touch up to her hair maybe. She's been having that long wavy, curly, straight hair for 30 years already. So it's about time for 2020 she would consider something different. Maybe.

Oh my days, give the Earth a break. It has enough to put up with, what with Greta Thunberg boring everyone to tears with her denying climate change deniers their right to deny, Iran wanting to nuke the very place it calls the holy land and French people striking from striking and going to work for a day. "A cohesive" "body of work" is almost as boring a sentence as that which it probably seeks to describe. "A cohesive body of work" suggests the constituent parts of a thing have, in themselves, no merit, whereas together they make sense and are passable. It's hardly descriptive of a Magnus Opus. Or anything worth leaving your nuclear bunker for.

It's almost as if Mariah thinks she won't be cool if she writes universal lyrics like those in Whenever You Call - which is one of the greatest unknown love songs ever. The part "and lifted me insi-ide, by showing me yourself uhhhuhhhnnndiisssguised" is a prime example of the restraint, confidence and depth that Mariah had that Celine and Whitney did not. But Mariah has, now, for half her career, resorted to trite lyrics. We have had "kitchen windows", "half past four", "teddy bears" twice in one album, and, oh I dunno, something about doritos maybe, and so on. She's listened to the radio, she's parlez'd you francais, she's sprayed you with Windex. There seems little doubt that Mariah is trying to be clever and down with the kidz and it is surely old now. Adele doesn't sell bucket loads by spouting such shite. She sings about meaningful things that people connect with. Meanwhile back at the condo, Mariah is telling people to get the [censored] out with their shit. The lyrical mastery has become lyrical awkwardness. So awkward it comes across as the lyrical equivalence of dad-jokes. Whatever happened to universal lyrics? They have universal appeal. As in, they speak to everyone and stand the test of time.

MC should be in full recording mode for her new album by the time of the ceremony on June 11th. When she is doing interviews and walking the red carpet on that day, she is going love talking about what she working on in the studio. I really feel she is going to try bring her next album full 360 with songs that have shaped her 30 years as a singer/songwriter. It only makes sense for her to do this because 2020 is going to be significant year for her career. I can't wait to see what type of music she releases in 2020.

B, go listen to I Want To Thank You by Alicia Myers, then Make It Happen by Mariah. Mariah's written a lot of great songs in her time, but she's also had a number of (justified) out of court settlements as well. You do need at times to take a step back and see things for what they are. Remove those rose tinted glasses every once in a while. You're a good soul but sometimes your love for her is a bit blinded.

I wasn't surprised by his she's not a songwriter because she's been sued for plagiarism nonsense. Every successful singer/songwriter has been accused of plagiarism. Emotions was released when sampling wasn't a common practice and she's credited her inspirations ever since. The Hero suit is insane and was thrown out twice. The last suit was over TGIFY and I think it's meritless because dozens of songs from 1999 sound exactly like TGIFY. Roger ardently defended Mariah until she parted ways with Cindy and he's attempted to diminish her credibilityy ever since. I loved it when he had to admit that #Beautiful was a good song because it is.

"Butterfly" will not be surpassed I am afraid. I do enjoy "Caution" because of te cohesive storyline but it lacks the depth and the lyrical genius of her magnus opus.
The stories she tells in songs such as "The Roof" and "Close My Eyes" are timeless and relevant to so many people because they are poignant without being overtly blatant about somebody or certain situations. "Caution" is a snack compared to the fine dining of "Butterfly".

With You (92,506)
by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
| |
|

With You is definitely about Bryan, the lyrics are definitely about her relationship with him. One of his favorite MC songs is Breakdown which the Bone Thugz reference. The Tupac references is because that is Bryan’s favorite rapper. Also she made references about getting to married to Packer, and Bryan rescuing her from the relationship with Packer. So With You is certainly about Bryan.

I'll admit I stopped reading your song theories, so I didn't read your last post to the last sentence. But my usual shade towards the usual suspect bt still stands. As for GML, I won't say who I think it's about so people don't get up in arms, but I hope Mimi reveals it in this book she insisted on writing.
