Re: Trump (96,570) (96,579)
by Geronimo from USA

You are incredibly wrong. He was one of the worst presidents since Andrew Johnson. He prevented the States from responding to the coronavirus when there was time to save tens of thousands of lives. Then he ratcheted up the country's racist, xenophobic, anti-intellectual, and paranoid tendencies just to play to his socially regressive base. He not so covertly encouraged white supremacist militias to stay ready for "action" when he lost, and worst of all, he scared the faux progressive liberals so badly that Joe Biden's "unity" and "healing" nonsense sounds politics to actual adults now. Trump is a barbarian in an orange monkey suit.

Re: Is AIWFCIY the most successful song in history? (96,577) (96,578)

Not sure about them others all having greater success than Mariah internationally. Here in Australia as a sampler, certified units:
P.nk 10.1m Rihanna 9.5m Katy Perry 6.8m Taylor Swift 6.74m Mariah 5.02m Madonna 4.78m Lady Gaga 4.09m Adele 4.09m Beyoncé 3.39m Celine 3.30m Christina 2.62m Babs 2.15m Whitney 1.89m Cher 1.53m Janet 1.15m
She’s actually sold more than all that you mentioned. But I agree with your sentiments about AIWFCIY.

Is AIWFCIY the most successful song in history? (96,577)
by Joachim Agerup Lřkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
I just had this crazy thought. I had to listen to AIWFCIY for the first time this season, and it came down to me, Mariah might have created the masterpiece of our century or millennium.
I have often felt sad that women like Celine, Whitney, Madonna, Aretha, Janet and even Ariana have hade grater success than Mariah on an international term. All have hade greater hits or greater sales. They all have discographies that are greater than Mariah.
But listen, in all charts comparing the greatest female artists, Mariah is always there, always making an impact, you can't talk about great female artists leaving out Mariah.
But here it comes, with AIWFCIY, Mariah has created a song that is for the decades to come, so great in music history, it doesn't even bury all other legacy's, but it almost bury Mariah's legacy, becoming the greatest song ever produced.

I don't mind being redundant here when I say that Mariah could have kept Last Chance and Head Over Heels for herself, that would be my "Migrate should have been a single" sentiment. Since she claims that she has recorded her version of the entire Chick album, she likely has her own demos of these 2 tracks as well.

Cory Rooney (96,573)
by Will from Australia
| |
|

Ok so going down the rabbit hole on Cory Rooney who first worked with Mariah on "Do You Think Of Me" and then later on Butterfly for "The Roof", "Beautiful Ones" and "Babydoll" before becoming the main producer throughout the years for JLo and interestingly Marc Anthony and Tommy's wife Thalia.
Scandal, I wish Mariah had told us the dirt there, he seems like more of a controversial move than Walter or the Glitter saga. I mean he produced three massive cuts from her most personal album before turning to JLo. He never worked with MC again.

I would die too. Last Chance is sublime. Because Mariah wrote it, I'm assuming she did a demo of it. Her background vocals on the track are amazing. Corey Rooney co-wrote it and co-produced and would later go on to do Destiny Child's (and still Beyoncé's) biggest hit Independent Women. Oh Allure, what could have been.

Long Ago / This Love mash up (96,571)
by 123 from USA
| |
|

For those that don't like the song, they should give this mash up a try. I've always loved Long Ago as it was one her her few album cuts the dipped deeper into the sophisticated r&b genre that last existed in the 90s. The lyrics have always been poetic to me and who doesn't love the way she sings, "I gave you my body and soul." I would have never thought of putting these two songs together but they fit like a glove. It gives the song new life.

He is not a bad president. Four historic peace treaties. Removing troops from Afghanistan. First president in over 40 years who did not start a new war. Booming economy pre-covid. Media has been unfair to him. That's not to say he doesn't come with personality problems. But I'll take his policies.

Did you and Bobby A ever get a resolution to this, Edward? I wonder if anyone shall ever know what happened. If he just decided to depart on a whim then so be it. It is certainly not the same without his posts - I adore random-fandom-geekdom and he certainly hit the bestseller list. Just seems out of character to move on without warning, is all. I hope this to be the case, however, and that nothing awful befell him. Here's to wishing him a long and happy life.

"I have never in my life met someone so condescending in my life."
In my life, there's been no-one like him anywhere, anywhere where he is - if he asked, I'd be his.
"It's time you find some joy in your life Andrew."
Joy to the world, Andrew has come.
"Being in your 40s and always leaving pernicious comments in a forum dedicated to your 'fave' or an 'idol' and thinking you are right is just sad."
When I am in my 40's I will look out for that, babes.
"Music is subjective and your opinion is quite frankly inconsequential."
Nope. You may have your own subjective opinion on music but that does not mean it is objectively reasonably good music. E.g., the tone deaf will appreciate the tone deaf. Or someone will like Christina Aguilera's O Holy Night better than Mariah Carey's. So, nope.
"Someone has clearly been sleeping around since 1990."
Don't bring your mama into this. (Okay, I cheated here. Just like yo daddy.)
"Mariah has always been vocal and proud of her black heritage."
Yes, she has. No-one disputed that, babes. I have always extolled the virtues of her being mixed race. She wouldn't have been so amazing if she was not exactly made up of the stuff that makes her up.
"Too bad that for some strange reason you seem to have a problem with that. I wonder why."
Oh wonder. How many goodly creatures are there here. How beauteous mankind is. Oh brave new world, that has such people in it.
Wonder on that, Miranda.

Webmaster, I obviously meant pure sales. The rest of her units sold is thanks to streaming, I planned on doing another post about how that and radio is the only thing lacking from Mariah. She could easily do bangers with Drake, The weeknd, Bruno, Ariana or Beyoncé and change that.
I will write a post soon on the artists and genres Mariah should really incorporate into her music. A collaborations album would be something new, guaranteed #1 on Hot 200. With the same promotion and rollout #Beautiful got easily multiple top 5s and possibly #1 on Hot 100.

Sales (96,564)
by We are lambily from USA
| |
|
|
So many come after Mariah's sales, yes she doesn't sell like she used to. Ariana's new album, which btw is great, sold less pure copies than Caution. She is arguably the biggest pop star out there and she is doing worse numbers than Mariah lol. The elusive chanteuse and Caution era has sold around 10 million copies combined. [Webmaster: Ariana Grande's sixth studio album, Positions, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart with 174,000 album-equivalent units, including 42,000 pure sales. Caution debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 with 51,000 album-equivalent units, of which 43,000 were pure album sales. So I can't really say that Ariana is doing worse than Mariah.]

Thank you. I, personally, am very relieved and excited that Biden and Harris won. We need a lot changes in this country and I don't feel that Trump wanted to represent all Americans, only the ones that agreed with him. He wanted to be a dictator and we can no longer allow him to destroy this country.

"[Mariah] really thinks the success of Precious is due to her acting ability. Lol."
Not sure this is accurate, mate. Is there somewhere that says this? Mariah clearly can be shown to think her performance in this ranges from good to great but I am not sure she can be shown to think she was the lynch-pin. Perhaps I am wrong? It has been known.
"Mariah is a terrible actress."
I have milked a cow a few times (much to my chagrin); a farmer, I am not. I have cooked fine food; a chef, I am not. I have run a half-marathon; an athlete, I am not. I have massaged someone's shoulders; a whore, I am not. And so on. You get my point. Mariah is not a terrible actress because Mariah is not an actress. Mariah is a singer-songwriter - a singer-songwriter that has severely lost her way but a bloody good singer-somgwriter for quite some time, nevertheless.
"She emotes like acting 101 and is uncomfortable to watch in any scene."
Because Mariah has poetic dreams which translate into music only and in no way how she behaves outside of that. Her 3 facial expressions don't cut it in films. Mariah wanting to be in movies is an extension of her wanting to be sexually admired. That she originally thought she could be, and was told she could not be, sexually attractive in Precious should tell you everything. She said she read the book. Don't waste my time. In fact, in the film, she just acted bored and petulant but had great make-up. A few lines of attitude saying something like "If you want your cheque, sweety" does not depth convey. In fact I recall a moment where the lead actress (who should have won several awards for her subtlety and presence alone) says something possibly revealing - and Mariah has to convey this. I recall Mariah's vacant this-is-how-I-think-reveal-looks expression whilst her head slithers awkwardly off its neck. Awful. Just awful. Mariah was not "good in Precious". Precious was "good with Mariah in it".
Mariah is a terrible actress because her very existence is not even grounded in reality. She cannot play anything other than fake, because that is her approach to her career. That sounds like a gross offence, but its true.
I'll leave you with a scene from Will & Grace:
Grace: Was it bad? Will: Oh, Mariah Carey-in-Glitter bad.

Not that I have said this before, but lo the mundaneness of lambs listing lazily. Question: "What is your top 10?"
Answer: "Ooooh I just cannot. I have to put 14."
I would bet my left testicle and right ventricle that if the list game was "top 14", the Official Representatives of the Republic of Preteenica on here would make it a top 17.
But hey, your lived experiences. Just like mine is of mind-numbing exposure to the galaxtically cretinous.

Okay, Mariah, we get it. You are now black. And white people bad. And Save The Day isn't a [censored] awful song.
Has she finally just completely lost the plot? The lambs are giving up. It is not an understatement to say her non-Christmas career is all but over. Nobody realistic knows who this woman is or if she is currently visiting the planet Earth.
