Mariah promo (111,392)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
She's got a busy release week booked. But I notice according this rating tracker site the only shows that really matter in the top 50 rated programs are: ABC's The View, NBC's Today Show, and CBS' Morning. Mariah's only doing the CBS show out of the those top three. I wonder if she had a deal with CBS for the Vanguard Award that all promo on networks has to happen on CBS this time. Drew's and JHudd's shows are on CBS. Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson don't even make the top 50. I didn't think she would do Kelly's anyway because she usually makes her guests sing lol, and you she'd try and get some vocals. Too much pressure. But it could also be that Kelly's show is affiliated with NBC. It's a shame she couldn't do The View, as the ratings are still massive. Same with America's Got Talent surprisingly reaches 4.5 million people per episode.

An absolute joy to watch the iHeart festival live thing. She looks good and I say it was 90% live. I don't know how to put in the correct way to link it here so the full link it is.

I can't stop humming it. It constantly plays in my mind. That's Mariah's genius. It's not just about the obvious. Her cadence, her timing (delivery wise), her pauses, her melodic patterns are what constitute her sound and make it such an earcandy. I have to admit that her recent detached demeanor has made me worried in the past few months, which has taken away some of the excitement for Here For It All, in the sense of whether she is physically well to put out and promote an album. I do hope she is being taking care of. Very happy to see her more alive during the iHeart show, though. Apart from the first two singles and the (very promising) title track, I don't want to hear more snippets this time around. Also, it feels like the music landscape is different even from as recent as the Caution era. On a fun note, I find the alternative all-black album cover stunning.

Good critics for the new album (111,388)
by Shezz from Pk

It really is crazy how there is so much buzz and excitement with the album with two singles that barely charted. I guess it's all the promo she's been doing - maybe the long 3 months have helped build up the excitement and suspense. Her album week promo is jam packed. I am really surprised she is still not doing the Kelly Clarkson show knowing how big of a lamb she is. Maybe she stays away from it because it is so music focused.
I hope she does a performance or 2 during tv promo week. My dream would be an acoustic Here For It All performance. She can even pre tape it if she's really not confident to perform live on tv. I doubt there's any performance planned but I hope I'm proven wrong.
If she does 100k first week, all her efforts will have paid off. 4 days to go.

Same. It's why I haven't commented much on the album. I still love that moment of opening up the CD, pulling out the liner notes, the smell, etc. I want to soak up that moment since MC albums come so sparingly.

I like the fact that MC is finally stepping out of her box. MC knows whatever SZA writes and sings on reaches this generation of young people and becomes a hit. Sza's and MC's comical and shady lyrics are very similiar. I would like to think that my tweet back in June to MC, Sza, and Rodney Jerkins initiated a collaboration. I forgot to retweet it myself to see how many people viewed it and let me review the engagement data.

I saw a low quality version on YouTube and it doesn't have the audio for the first bit but it's a great improvement. She's walking around, smiling and doing little beat moves. We don't need her to dance, just little engagement is all she needs. And she delivered. The sugar sweet jacket that was given to her by a fan I'm not sure if it was staged or impeccable timing, but I was on edge trying to see if she gives it to someone else in the audience but she's so cute she held it for the whole song and then she walks over to the piano and describes what the jacket says and transitions to Sugar Sweet, it put a smile on my face when she did it because it was so endearing. I also loved that she plugged her album multiple times during the show. Can nobody say she didn't try to promote hahah. Also loved her confident strut during ILT and the energy during the song. Exactly what we needed. I was hoping she did something for TDang when she first performed it back in the day a strong strut while singing "I came in the door dropped in Balenci". Mariah was on fire.

Thank you for sharing MusicFan. It looks like Here For It All will join Mariah Carey, Butterfly, Glitter, and Caution as MC's most cohesive albums. I am sitting on pins and needles knowing that we are about to hear new music after 7 years. I have been listening lately to Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, The Clark Sisters, Paul McCartney (My Love), and Deniece Williams to gauge what Here For It All will sound like. The promotion this week kicks off when MC joins the CBS Morning Show to talk with Gayle King.

I was surprised to read good critics about her new album in a German online newspaper today (Welt-News) which I wanted to share with you. The critic wrote, he was able to hear the album in advance and was very pleased. It's a combination of RnB, powerballads, adult-contemporary and hip-hop influences. So everything she's known for and loved the last 35 years. He also said "Here for it all" is one of her best ballads and worth the wait. Wow, now I have high expectations. He liked the self-irony of some of her lyrics which is very rare for a non-fan too. I was almost shocked to read something so positive. So now I can't wait to hear the full album like in the good old days.

You're too kind and likewise I enjoy your posts. Mariah's beauty is truly underrated and not talked about enough in the industry. I know JLo gets a lot of compliments with what people call the "JLo Glow" and not to put one woman against another but Mariah's beauty far outshines her. She has the thousand watts smile. She keeps looking better with age. She needs a consistent stylist. Get her Law Roach for that edgy looks.

Hi Mimi L. I love your posts and yes Mariah ate in those photos. The color definitely suits her well and the hair and make up were on point. She definitely looks young and gives me 2013 Mariah. If she recorded the video for "Play this song" in that ensemble it would explain why she posted those pics. Maybe she was giving us a hint.

Something between them for sure with [Apple Music] on the 24th now after MC sent her that response that Apple Music posted with an eyes emoji. I feel if they have recorded a collaboration, they're not going to release a remix or a song not listed on the album at this point.
Very likely that it's an interview, with Sza interviewing MC. Though all the sudden love exchange between them in the last two weeks clearly points to them having cooked something together. I wish that was on the album it would have really helped the album sales.
Also, the iheart performance was pretty okay. One of her only performances I've actually managed to fully watch in the last few years. Mostly lipped yes but some decent involvement and energy, better outfit and the great hair.

Looking back on Glitter (111,370)
by T from USA
| |
|

I like the idea of it being "cover heavy" as it takes the pressure of being a full Mariah Carey album for her first time out. It gives it a soundtrack feel too. I would've definitely had OHOMO make the cut. Also Lead The Way as the first single. I think after LTW went to #1 which it would've have because JLo couldn't have stolen those vocals from her, then the other singles would've fallen in place and she probably would've had about four well promoted singles in total that era. The only wildcard would've been the breakdown. If it was inevitable or just a result of LB struggling and her working extra hard to try and make it happen?

Looking back on Glitter (111,360)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
I very much agree with Glitter being botched somewhat. I remember at the time being underwhelmed by Loverboy. I love it now, but as the lead single for a much-hyped brand new beginning, it fell flat because it was so predictable. A term of endearment one word title like Heartbreaker, Sweetheart, Honey, etc., that depended on a sample from the 80s as its background music and structure, just like all the lead singles since Dreamlover. Had she launched with literally any other song on the album it would have been something new. Even though she didn't write it, I always thought All My Life was superb and would have been a great first single, but opting for a ballad (Lead the Way) would have been a good choice too. If We is my absolute favourite from the album and should have been a single too, and how she left off Out Here On My Own from the album is a mystery... maybe because it would have been a bit "cover heavy" with Last Night, Turn You On and Don't Stop. But who cares, that cover was astonishing.
