Mimi (55,163) by B from USA
I remember those rumors. I just assumed the author confused the Infinity video shoot with a documentary. I assumed it was a worker at Caesars Palace that saw Ratner and his crew filming Mariah and thought she was filming a documentary.

B (55,162) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I agree with you on the Ariana thing. What she did was bad and she deserved the backlash she got. Although I don't think BBs' stupid article will suddenly change people's negative opinion about her behavior, it was a pretty pathetic attempt by her team. The girl uses her age excuse differently every time to suit her liking. Example, when people call her out for her over sexual image the "oh she is a woman now not a child" excuse comes forth. When she is licking other people's food and yelling about the land she lives in, she is "young, she didn't understand". She quickly apologized for the "America" comment because she knew that it offended a lot of people, plus unfortunately for her it was also 4th of July, but she didn't bother apologizing her tongue on food other people might eat. Like if you and I would lick that donut and it was caught on camera, it would be turned into a major deal. She deserved the backlash, she shouldn't be spared just because she is 22, when Justin Bieber's actions are heavily criticized (which he deserves too). The way she just said "I hate Americans and America" makes you wonder about the rumors of her saying "I hope they all die" about her fans. The comment was quite uncalled for. Anyways moving on to your other post, apparently there is a documentary in the making. Remember rumors about it surface a while back. It's supposedly named "A Butterfly in Vegas" and it's for HBO.

Age and getting hits (55,161) by Luke from United Kingdom
Although I do agree it's harder for an artist to get hits as they get older I don't think it's impossible. Artists younger than Mariah are struggling even at their age which is sad, but I do believe if any older artist is going to gain another hit it will be Mariah. I can listen to various songs by Janet or Madonna and although a lot are good, not many touch me like so many of Mariah's songs do. The thing is, if you write a song and produce it well it can become a hit. Look at We Belong Together, they released that at a point in her career where so many people pushed her aside and considered her finished. That song stayed number 1 for 14 weeks because it face slapped people in the feels. When that happens people will buy regardless of your age. I might be getting my hopes up and she might not be ontop again but I do think if anyone can do it, it's her. Infinity isn't her most personal song but more of a safe option to edge her back into the game. I think she has something planned that's going to go along with the Game Of War ads. I was thinking it would be cool if she went down a war drum-esque sound since those types of games are so popular and shows like Game Of Thrones. Florence & The Machine's new album is a great example of that kinda sound with the use of trumpets (How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful). I think it would sounds fresh, especially for Mariah.

Billboard (55,160) by B from USA
Billboard published an article defending Ms. Grande and it is another example of ageism and bias. Defending an "artist" after she is caught licking doughnuts and saying she hates America because of her age is ridiculous. She isn't a child, she's twenty two years old.

Mariah's latests songs? (55,159) by Liz Archer from Sweden
I really don't get why good or interesting songs like Meteorite, You Don't Know What to Do, Thirsty, I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time etc have not got higher buzz? Can someone explain me this? I like these songs so why aren't people liking them?

#1 To Infinity (55,158) by B from USA
Mariah's Las Vegas residency has been so successful I think she should do a documentary.

I do agree with you but look at Madonna's and Janet's latest singles, Madonna's or Jennifer Lopez' latest abums or Whitney's latest live album. Same stories, only marginal success. I don't expect huge sales for Janet's forthcoming album either. Seems like when an artist gets older their releases seem to be just interesting for their fanbase. So be it. I don't mind Mariah not being as successful as she once was. Sales of MIAMTEC may have been poor but it's one of my favorite Mariah albums anyway. As long as she is not making desperate moves (thinking of the video's for Booty or Bitch I'm Madonna) to gain some success it's fine with me.

All that promotion (55,156) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
So Infinity has joined the rest of all the singles post-#Beautiful that underperformed. Every release, we seem to always find ourselves suggesting that Mariah should do this or do that like how this artist did this and it worked, blah blah blah. I'm guilty of it. Most of us are. Maybe that's just us wanting her to succeed as much as possible. But we also often forget that the thing about promotion is that it's not a one-size-fits-all thing. Just like everything in the music industry nowadays, it's a case-to-case-basis thing, and a significant bulk of it depends on luck and timing. Sometimes it's hard to be a Mariah fan. I try to be positive, but there certainly are moments when I get frustrated because Mariah deserves to be on top and she isn't. Every time I listen to MIAMTEC, I hear a masterpiece that has sadly fallen mostly on deaf ears. Sorry, did not mean to be a downer. It's just sad when great artists don't get the credit and respect they deserve.

Vegas concert tonight (55,155) by Leigh from USA
Just got back to my room, and I must say I expected a little more. Naw just messing with you. It was awesome. She started a little edgy and admittedly her voice did crack one teeny time early on, but she really killed it otherwise. The whistlenotes were right on and didn't sound labored, especially when she can hold the last one so long at the end. But it was her lower register that floored me. She really used it well tonight.

The next album (55,154) by Amber C from USA
The way Mariah put it Me I Am Mariah was null. Lol. It's basically Glitter number two. Half of Memoirs and the whole of Chanteuse were dedicated to Nick. She is probably going to run away from the sounds of those albums. Lol. I want new music and hopefully a stronger vocal so that Mariah can perform new music live again. It's about time.

Ex lamb (55,153) by Ty from USA
I asked my friend why he was no longer a Mariah fan. He was a diehard. He really had a lot to say, he said he hated infinity because they hyped it up and the song was horrible, videos were late, her live performances are 50-50 and he paid good money for shows and she lipped portions or high notes and she is basically destroying her legacy trying to be 12. He has been so disappointed in her the last 5 years and her ignoring the last cd was the final blow, [...] and [...] being ignored was his final straw. He finished by saying she is worth millions but out of shape. Wearing dresses where she looks 3 months pregnant. I wonder how many other lambs feel like him.

Mariah snaps back at Wendy? (55,152) by Ardis Logic from Earth
MC posted a picture of this quote on her Facebook page that says "When you are a giraffe and you receive criticism from turtles, they are reporting the view from the level they are on. - Bishop T.D. Jakes." Ouch. Ha ha. Good one MC.

Oh my. Looks like MC is going to be married again, as soon as she get divorced from Nick. Talk about moving on in a big way. Wow. Just shocking. If this is all true I wish them both the best in love and happiness.

Heartbreaker / Mimi L and Matty (55,149) by Musti from UK
I love the remix with Missy and Da Brat. That loop of Ain't No Fun is absolutely timeless. She sings it like a ballad. Her hottest song in my opinion. I like the Oprah performance as well. It's cute.

Emotions vs. The Wind (55,147) by nikki from usa
Lol. Originally, I went over a 1500 character tangent on the Emotions album before deciding to shorten it way up. Too much cutting and pasting sentences and didn't bother to re-read before posting. Yes, The Wind was meant to be an eventual single, not the first. You're So Cold was supposed to lead. True. It was supposed to say The Wind was actually the first album title before Emotions and was supposed to be a single according, but I thought that sounded weird, unclear, and tried to re-word it to no avail. The article from a long ass time ago mentioned releasing The Wind as a single to show Mariah's versatility and maturity as an artist. I don't know why they never did release You're So Cold or The Wind. I think YSC would've made a better follow up to Can't Let Go. Also, as great of a vocal as If It's Over is I think The Wind would've carried more impact. The vocals and content were simply haunting. I'll stop the tangent here because I could go on and on about this album forever.

Re: snubs by Nikki (55,146) by Travon..SweetSweetFantasy from USA
Nikki I completely agree with you 100 percent. I have said the same before here and I am happy someone agrees with me. The [...] and the [...] suck. Mariah is the trailblazer for this generation. These kids buying [...] and [...] music should understand Mariah Carey is the blueprint for a pop career. R&B/Rap music would suck now if pop never existed. It sucks she receives so much criticism for being authentic. I always believed the public hates her because they cant shake her and that is why I love Mariah Carey. She cares to win [...] but her impact carries more weight than to win. She knows it too.

Mimi L and Heatbreaker (55,145) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
I 150% agree with you, Heartbreaker is such an enduring song that never sounds dated no matter what the current pop-music trend is. It's absolutely in my top 3 of her #18's as well. I love it because I still hear "Heartbreaker" and "Fantasy" every weekend at the most popular clubs here in VanCity (straight and gay bars), and both song still pack the dance floor inspiring Mariah-waving-hand-singing across the club. The mash-up of the two versions in Vegas gave me life.

Sometimes, you just can't hit those notes and have to improvise on the spot. Apparently, you really can make up for a lack of notes by just looking happy to be there.

Heartbreaker (55,143) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
This song does not get old. It's definitely in my top 3 of her 18 #1's. This song is just so fun and fresh and I must not be the only one who busts a move with the chorus, especially the last one and also lip sync to the whistle (HB's whistle is my #1 favorite, the second is LTT's whistle from the live versions where it's more prominent compared to the original). I just love this, sometimes I will hear this so much that I will try to take a break from it and then after a while when I hear it again, it just gives me the same feeling I got when I first listened to it. The video is definitely one of my favorites. The remix is divine, I love how she goes from the fun-flirty and bubbly voice for the original (matching the video with the pink crochet top and cute hair) to the slowed down sultry and sexy voice she uses for the remix. I love the usual Heartbreaker and HB remix medley she does in her shows. I also really love the Junior's remix and it just shows how great she is with remixes. I love the layering of "if you should ever be lonely with gimme your love". The chorus of the Junior's remix is I think kinda haunting and I love how she goes "don't go and break my heart, no no why why did you have to run your game on me". I know I started almost all the sentences with "I love" but I really do love this song. I wish she'd sing this more in her TV appearances now (not just her personal concerts) because this song still has the potential to capture the younger audiences).

Nikki / "Emotions" (55,142) by Billy from Greece
Nikki, you're right, the second album was at some point almost called "The Wind" but the actual track was never intended to be the first single (on the basis of the research I've done over the last couple of decades). The original first single was to be "You're So Cold".
(Wednesday 8 July 2015; 23:42)
Nikki (55,141) by Bill from the UK
I think the first planned single from Emotions was in fact "You're So Cold", at least according to Mariah's official biography and numerous other sources. You are correct though in that the album was originally titled The Wind, which I think would have been cool as Mariah was named after the song "They Call the Wind Mariah". Not sure why Emotions was picked as the album title, perhaps after the success of the song, or indeed because the themes of the songs on the album themselves cover a range of emotions across their subject matter. Love, gladness, sadness, faith, anger, mourning etc.

Re: snubs (55,140) by nikki from usa
I believe that the Grammys began a backlash against Mariah after she came out with hip-pop. I think what few people acknowledge is how much music was segregated in the 90's and whether folks like to admit it or not Mariah had a lot to do with breaking those barriers down. When MC came out with ODB on Fantasy it was groundbreaking and unheard of. MC alluded to "I got into a lot of trouble for that" in more than one interview and talked about how the "powers that be" were pissed. I don't believe she was simply referring to just Mottola there. Rap was the worst selling genre and not taken seriously by music higher ups as a legitimate genre of music. She brought that to the pop industry and certain people were pissed, even more so after she popularized it and turned it into a staple. The '96 Grammys actually featured her in their commercials for presenting an award and singing live on stage that year to get people to watch. She was up for 6 and won none. In '05 when she left her competition who were lucky to go double platinum in the dust with so many sales and hit singles the Grammys were forced to acknowledge her. You can tell it's begrudgingly because they wouldn't allow her to accept her awards on stage or live during the show. If MC wasn't so over the top successful that year they would've swept her under the rug.

Every article that I've read states that You're So Cold was going to be the lead single and was switched to Emotions at the last minute.
