I think that's why most of us follow Mariah and support her, because it makes us feel good somewhat. I definitely don't rely on Mariah to speak for me, nor do I lack the ability to express how I feel. I think I am partly doing my bit already, expressing the disappointment that someone I have admired for years is not showing any discontent or acklogement to what's going on. I marched in Birmigham yesterday to protest against the shootings that are happening, I've never done anything like that in my life but wanted to. I will never expect Mariah to fight for me and I certainly don't pass the book. I'm not getting on my house and thinking my words are golden but I am trying to do something. I think her not responding has finally broke the camel's back for me. To be honest I feel better expressing my inner thoughts about Mariah now instead of making allowances for her. I'm not trying to make this forum negative, as I've said before I rarely post but on this occasion I'm glad I've said something. Only time will tell how I feel towards her but my love for her music will never change

Don't you get it? Mariah isn't scared of anything except becoming irrelevant. She doesn't care about black people, gay people or anybody who can't advance her celebrity or bank account. Plain and simple, she has never cared. It's always been smoke and mirrors. When she was with Tommy he crafted her image and made her treat her fans with reverance, never leaving a performance with a single fan waiting for an autograph. He made her dress conservatively, speak with humilty, praise God, even going so far as to have Sony fund a complete reshoot of her first video because he thought it was too sexy. Tommy understood marketing and had it down to a science. As soon as Mariah had her freedom she began going full speed in the opposite direction, negating every lesson Mottola taught her. Childlike, she rebelled against the very methods which guided her success believing that her celebrity and admitedly extraordinary talent would be enough to ensure that the festivities would continue until the end of time. Not to be rude but I'd encourage everyone who is angry or heart broken about current events to go out and make your voices heard. Reclaim our democracy and stop waiting for Mariah to speak out, she really doesn't care about us.

I think that you should stop being jealous of James. He does not spend his time over analyzing the life of his idol the way you do. He achieved a lot and deserves it. You are not funny with your desperate remarks. In fact it makes you seem like a clown because James can buy and sell you with his pocket change irrespective of how he looks. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and Mariah seems happy with him so let it be. You should not pick on his looks because perhaps others may rate you a scraping 1 in their eyes.

Re: Mariah's behavior (64,114) (64,136)

To be completely honest, in my eyes Mariah has always acted grandiose since Music Box. Her interviews regarding music up to this day are the only grounded sounding. When it's not about music, she acts as she always did. Just this week I was looking at some nostalgia backstage interviews and perks, and saw some from the Daydream era, Mariah, holding the glass of wine in one hand, inviting the interviewer some too, then running all over the street foolishly back and forth, laughing out loud just because the air blew as she tends to do, in a mini skirt with high heels. Sorry, but she has always been this way, I feel that the only difference is that somehow, throught all her "90s respectable Mariah with her blue tetris shaped gown singing Hero", Mottola held her back in interviews, having her publicist always being right there to tell her how to act (we pitifully had to witness once in an uncut interview). Mariah came full force showing her funny side when Rainbow came out and she was free to act as pleased, we all remember the craziness of Bianca, yet we took it in a fun way, she was young, she could get away with that. But more and more, the Mariah that we see today, started to emerge. She has always been since day one the sexy vixen braless pluck down cleavage girl, playing with her hair, flirting with her voice, laughing coquettish, wearing skimpy clothes, only through Music Box and part of Daydream she was the most dressed up and then she doesn't own it up, she likes to remind people that that "wasn't her", was there ever a time she didn't have a glass of wine? My only concern is that now at days she does seem to drink more than she used to. I don't feel surprised or shocked by her revealing clothing and they don't bother me neither, I don't feel embarrassed as some fans because she is an individual and a grown up woman with all the right to dress however she pleases, the only thing that would make me embarrassed as a fan is something like her failed lip-synch of Fantasy in Jamaica, because I defend a singer, not a model. Past that, regarding the Orlando I thought she didn't want to post out of controversy after the Pray For Paris. But "Black lives matter" makes me wonder, I understand she is on vacation with her fiance, friends and family, I understand she has people in charge of her social media (like always, she hardly ever posted something on her own, if people really believe she has been posting stuff all the time by herself in the past, well, they certainly live under a rug) so at least follow the hashtag but nothing. I believe that right now (and since years for the most part) Mariah is simply suffering from the Prince syndrome as I call it, "Prince living in Prince world", like the story of the camel told by Kevin Smith, Prince's publicist and manager at the time said to Smith "Prince calls us at times, and if Prince calls us and is 3 am in Minnesota and he wants a camel and tell us to go get it, we have to explain to him it's January in Minnesota, a camel, that's not possible and he says but why", I feel very much like Mariah is on the same state of mind, she is oblivious to the outside world, not in a malicious way just like Prince but completely living in the eternally 12, splashes, festive moments added to the Stella's formula, hashtag work hard-play hard-party-hard, hashtag livelife, hashtag empoweringwomen, hashtag everythingshouldhaveahashtag. I don't swallow neither the whole thing of "she has forgotten Jesus" because as an atheist I think it is stupid to think a person lost the plot of life just because Jesus is out. In my opinion she is a woman who has absolutely everything and right now doesn't know what else to do with her life and music or Jesus doesn't seem to fulfill her anymore or she might be going through a mid-life crisis. Sometimes I like to think she is just fine every time I see her with her darling children but then again, a picture of a 2 minutes is just a picture, doesn't show all that is going on in the background. The circus is on with Mariah in the mega-love-boat as well but this time Kristoffer is not there and who really thought Bryan was going to be there, really, come on haha.

Case in point (64,135)

I imagine this will be heavily censored because it's not about Stella but I feel the point should be emphatically made for the record. Evidence in point of Mariah's personality: James Packer. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being Sloth from the Goonies and 10 being Brad Pitt, he's scraping a 2 with the tips of his fingernails in the belief that at number 2 there is a chicken madras waiting for him. If he were to lose his money tomorrow, if all was lost and he was destitute, would Mariah still marry him? I think we all know the answer to that one. Again, another example of [censored] you really just couldn't make up.

Mariah's stance (64,134)
by darrian liu from taiwan

I don't get why Mariah might be scared to voice out her stance on the Black Lives Matter movement, the Orlando shootings, Alton Sterling, etc. She has been very vocal about her always feeling like an outsider being biracial and those events should be the events she is most vocal about. I agree with Marissa and others, Mariah is a legend and shouldn't be discouraged from voicing out her opinion. Look at Beyonce. Her message about the Black Lives Matter movement and Alton Sterling are powerful and she's not afraid despite being threatened to be boycotted by the police and being called racist by many priviledged ignorant fools. She is not even a legend yet, but she still uses her status as an icon as a platform to express her stance on important social happenings. Mariah gotta stop all the flaunting of lifestyle and diamonds because for an artist with such talent it is very shallow.

I think it's safe to say that whilst a great many people will always love (most of) Mariah's catalogue, the days of actually loving Mariah as a person are either at an end or coming to it. She genuinely has very few redeeming qualities left and innit somebody fans can actually be proud of as a person. Talking of her person, there is usually some mutation of the sentence "Oh, she's so (insert debatable and mocked quality) but that why I love her." Her reputation in the press and with Joe Public is not unwarranted. Lambs may bleat about Mariah needing to show "who she really is" but who she really is, in actuality, is a vain, aloof, champagne-swigging, arrogant, self-obsessed, money-oriented diva, who lip-syncs and airbrushes her way through life. And whilst many lambs will bleat at that sentence alone about how people who admit that way should just get a life and go, the problem is is that 98% of the record buying public already have. And 1 of the other 2% is telling the other 1, who are trying to envisage a way though this catastrophic denouement to what was once a remarkable career, to get lost. You couldn't make this shit up lol.

"No. No, I would never lip-sync." The question of what 1990 Mariah would think of 2016 Mariah is probably answered somewhere in that sentence. Still, it's good to see old interviews, the ones before Mariah began her one woman champagne advertising campaign.

If she says something, someone somewhere will say it's too much, too soon, too little or too late. People aren't that influenced by her words or anyone else's, and if you don't agree with their words they get dragged for filth. Wendy Williams made a stupid comment about HBCU's and many people would love to know that she got flayed by so called "black twitter" lol. I just think people tend to make too much of whether or not Mariah has said something or not. I'm sure she would prefer her opinion could drive people to buy her records, but alas. Her platform is hers alone, just like anyone else who has one. The president, Dali Lama, Oprah, or anyone else can only do so much and really only what they feel inclined to do. And the self righteous people about people being spiritual would complain about her saying pray for whatever. Not criticizing you, but do your part instead of pushing Mariah to do her part to make you or others feel better.

New interviews/posts and so on (64,130)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I feel like Mariah has been lacking substance lately and her team is surely not doing anything to improve it. What I loved about Mariah was that during interviews and all you could tell she is knowledgeable, humble and deep and so mature. Nowadays everything she does or talks about is basically showing off riches and her jet-setting lifestyle, big diamond necklaces with her lingerie and what not. Don't get me wrong, she definitely has the right to enjoy it, she worked hard to earn these. But it doesn't just stop with her social media posts, it spills over into her interviews. Nowadays her interviews are only about her ring, her diva demands, the dahlin' galore, hair flips and what not. There are never enough questions about her music especially in the interviews aired on TV, when we know darn well that her team has the power to get those questions put in. If one didn't know better, or if one didn't know about her legendary status, Mariah would almost be mistaken for a socialite and not a musical genius, a legend who paved the way for many. Even when Mariah was a rambling mess during the MIAM era, there were times when she still showed the serious deep side of her. Ever since then she is now just coming across as ignorant, self-important and attention seeking diva. People say her image has improved since her new team, I don't see any improvement apart from the great improvement in her voice. I love Mariah and I loved the interviews she used to give which were inspiring and enlightening. Nowadays we only get publicity stunts (something Mariah never resorted to before) and do it for the instagram moments, which her team (mainly the Bulochnikovs) encourage to no end. Stella herself is all about showing how glamorous her life is (when it's not her life, it's Mariah's) and she makes Mariah do the same. We need back the artist who inspired so many people by showing how they can make it if they believe, who inspired so many to pursue their dreams, who inspired so many to not give in and commit suicide because there is more to life. And I know deep inside Mariah still is that person. She needs to let it out. Because I am seeing so many of her die hard fans even on this board slowly detaching from her (with good reasons since she seems to be detaching from them). I also am starting to feel like maybe it's time to just step back and just enjoy her music, instead of worrying about her life. Because she'll do whatever she wants either ways. I won't buy the whole "oh she was always wronged by the media so she has stopped caring". Almost every celeb has been wronged by the media to some extent, even America's sweetheart Taylor has been portrayed as a manipulative, attention seeking, clingy/crazy person who keeps moving from boys to boys. Mariah shouldn't abandon her true fans for that.

I wouldn't say either Orlando or BML are strictly political matters. These problems are probably best fixed by raising social awareness and changing public opinion. I'd understand why practically no celebrity has commented on the plenty terrorist attacks around the world since last year (Belgium, France, Turkey, etc.) as they have deeper political implications. But especially considering that she identifies more with being black and that a big chunk of her core fanbase is gay men, it's almost her duty to take part in both causes. Many decent celebrities go way beyond their day jobs on social media to make their accounts more appealing, like actively supporting charities, or doing talk shows with other celebrities (like Mary J), or blogging about practically everything (like Brandy), whereas Mariah shamelessly posts pics of her boobs and diamonds and extravagant life style even during times of social unrest. It's not right and, as many of you have already said, it's hard to believe this is the humble adult I fell in love with all those years ago.

Mariah is lucky to still have a fan like you who's still got the patience to make allowances for her behaviour. She has got a lot going but haven't we all? As Marissa said I don't expect Mariah to become a news anchor and report on every matter but I do think there comes a time when you should say something. Mariah is extremely busy but she still makes time to do stupid poses, the time it takes to pose she could post. I think Mariah's team see Mariah fans as part of her business rather than loyal supporters. Mariah knows she's not connecting the way that she used to and is choosing to be less involved. I don't expect constant contact but some acknowledgment and respect wouldn't go a miss. I hope you're right, that when things settle she will settle, until then I'm not adding anymore to her fortune nor notierity.

Here is my thing, yes MC is an entertainer, but we live in a society where people pay 40 times more attention to entertainers thoughts and opinions than we do to scholars and politicians. This is the exact reason why I love when entertainers take a stand on something, because they will be heard compared to a Senator in Montana who no one knows. We especially need more white and racially ambiguous-looking people speaking out because people feel like "here they go again complaining" when black people speak out, but when non-blacks or people who don't look black take a stand it tends to legitimize the movement more. It's sad that that is what it takes, but it's true. This whole situation reminds me of the quote, "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor." If it was "safe" for her to say "Pray for Paris" and address the Malaysia Airline crash victims, why is the taking of innocent black lives forbidden to be discussed or "too political" for her? A loss is a loss, but it seems strange that anytime it involves oppressed people (like gays or blacks) it's too political to be spoken of. What do you work so hard to get a platform for if you are going to be acting just as scared to take a stand as a rookie? Just a thought.

I understand she just voluntarily went into rehab for an addiction to painkillers. These are scary times especially for hardworking entertainers who often do more than their bodies should be able to do. That is a tough industry and we all know that Mariah had a very painful arm/shoulder injury a couple of years ago. I am hoping all is well with her and her arm. Aretha, Mariah, Chaka and Sade are my absolute favorites. After the loss of Prince, we just have to hope that people we look up to are taking the very best care of themselves. If they don't it's been shown time and time again that often, no one else will.

Article: Mariah Carey goes braless in a lace-up top (64,122)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

I remember a post here not so long ago referring to Mariah's penchant for flaunting her bra in a lot of her recent looks. Well apparently during that short amount of time, little did we know that that little issue she has with bras has escalated into hatred. Bra-less is the new bra out, everybody. And yes, we're still talking about Mariah Carey. Award-winning singer, prodigious talent, bestselling artist, savvy businesswoman, bonafide diva, loving mother, and a nip slip waiting to happen.

I couldn't have put it better myself and agree with you 100 percent. Mariah is going to start losing some of her hardcore fans if she carries on the way she's heading. I'm really angry with her. Even Kim K has spoken out about the shootings, I'm not a fan but I respect her for being vocal to her millions of followers. Nick Cannon is out there marching and voicing his opinions, I think even he's now too deep for Mariah now. I was fortunate to meet Mariah in March at a concert, we weren't allowed to handover gifts there and then, so I asked one of the backstage managers if they could pass on a card, I did explain what it was for. The card was for the charity that I work for, it's celebrating 50 years of providing services to young and old with poor mental health. Basically I put a simple massage in it saying well down for providing services for 50 years. All she had to do was sign it, and I even included an envelope addressed with a stamp. Still to this day nothing. Stella probably thought this is crap, we can't flaunt this on social media. Now I'm not holding a grudge or else would have shared this sooner but it did make me think, wow, the money I've spent on you over the years, I finally get to meet you, I don't choose to have anything of mine signed but for the charity I work for instead and you basically think it's irrelevant or the people running the show do. That's who you're rolling with Mariah... well done. I'm mixed race and feel incredibly disappointed that shes remained silent on the treatment of black people, especially when over the years she's banged on about being oppressed and treated differently for the colour of her skin. That was one of the initial things that connected me with Mariah, I could relate to that. Well I'm taking a stand now, I'm not buying anymore of her sh*t until I feel she's connecting more with her fans and not acting like a selfish moron. Why should I increase her wealth when she's choosing not to use her power and take a few minutes to write a few words on the authorities that has happened to the gay and black communities. I can't support her endeavours as it honestly doesn't feel right in my heart.

I hear ya, but IMO Mariah doesn't need to speak on this or any subject especially if she is not in that frame of mind. She is an entertainer and if she decides to remain silent on Orlando or Black Lives Matter, or any subject I am cool with that. She is not a politician and her personal words don't give me any comfort, unless it's [...] or [...] or some inspirational song. This world has some huge problems and M. already needs an entourage for her own day to day life. Songwriting is her area of expertise. Obviously she is preoccupied now, but that too may change. I believe we are about to see a turnaround and I think eventually it will be for the better. Some people love what she is putting out lately, but many don't. When things stop working for her and her children she will adjust. Hopefully she will find the right balance for her. She is doing so much, even too much lately and that has got to slow down because what goes up, must come down.

I am 24 years old. I was born in the 90s and I hate Santa Clause. Santa is a fake image that ruins childrens' hearts once they find out he is not real. Back to the topic which is; some old fans from the 90s are stuck on something high. Unless E news makes a statement or I see an article with your perceived (delusional) family member as the author, I will cite what I see on a credible article, as facts. In school they teach children to learn how to get useful information from credible sources instead of ideas. They ask the students to create and seperate their new ideas from their own already formed opinions. This in return provides the children with perspective relating to what's real and what's not. It also allows them to develop facts based upon credible sources. In conclusion, the children will understand the difference between a fact from an opinion. I would suggest you to go back to school and learn it again. I was taught to to perceive facts from a credible standpoint. Thank you and have a great day.

If you do not use your celebrity platform to advocate for something, your fame has no value but serving your ego and vanity. I can understand why in the beginning MC didn't want to be controversial or political because she did not want to put her career at risk when it was so new and fragile, but the woman is a legend now. She can get away with taking a stand without being blacklisted by the music industry. Look at Beyonce. She played the game so she could ascend to the top and then reminded the world that she didn't forget about her fellow black people nor the fact that she's black herself. The level of atrocities that is happening to blacks in her own home country is disgusting and should not be ignored. This is the same woman who has said several times, "If your father is black, you're black." The same woman who has been surrounded by nothing but black people up until this past year. Who has black kids. There is always something crazy happening in the world so I'm not expecting her to become a news anchor, but the country is having an all-out race war. This is a non-stop epidemic of violence. You at least say that you are praying for peace. I am disgusted that she is more comfortable being criticized for having her boobs out than she is for taking a stand on social issues. If you know that people are going to talk shit about you anyway, you might as well let them talk about you for doing something noble. Use your platform for something besides showing off your diamonds. I know the positivity police are going to come out soon, so please note that all of the things that we complain about with Mariah are byproducts of her abandoning her connection with the fans. The same complaints keep arising because we are not being listened to like we were for over 20 years. Fan letters aren't being read, messageboards aren't being checked, WWLD is defunct and social media conversations have been axed. A lot of the things that we talk about are quick and simple fixes if she actually tried to hear us out like she used to. You all can shout at us all you want but it is hurtful to watch someone you loved pull away from you after you have supported them for years and it is hurt that is really what is underneath the surface of what seems like anger.
