With You (84,472) by B from USA Uproxx praises With You as a breathy, piano-led R&B number and Mariah referencing Usher's Confessions and The Roof. Billboard praises With You as a sultry and inviting. Highlighting the finger-snap beat and Carey's voice being front and center. Spin praises With You as a satisfying and wistful slice of classic Carey-esque R&B. Also highlighting DJ Mustard production. NPR praises With You, especially it's structure and lyrics, as having that timeless Carey touch. Highlighting the pre-chorus nod to Breakdown. With You is being praised by critics and yet according to the consensus on this board it's an uninspired hybrid of We Belong Together and Love Story that is a poor choice as a single. Can someone please explain the disconnect? Personally. I love both songs and I'm looking forward to Mariah's new album. Call me crazy or delusional I don't care, lol. Shortly after his firing Mariah's deal was renegotiated and from the press release from Epic regarding GTFO and With You whoever is now in charge at Epic now views Mariah as a viable act. It's been stated, suggested, implored, many times over many years, in my case, that Mimi should let others write for her. I wish she would. A way to ease into that is an album of covers, but surely she feels too young for that. But there are great writers and teams who I'm sure would, could craft her some gems. And yes I'm sure she could add her signature arrangements and lyrics to make them her own. I believe she did that with Miguel's Beautiful. Mimi likes to do things her way, within her bubble. With You (84,467) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines Aside from the repeated hook, and the "Mustard on the beat" tag, With You doesn't really fit into today's standard of a top 40 single. It would have been right at home during the mid-late 2000s, but definitely not today. That being said, again, it is a conglomeration of her past material - the sparseness and simplicity of WBT, the subdued performance for majority of the song from Candy Bling, the storytelling of Love Story, the singalong flow of DFAU, and some of the vocabulary and vibe of TAOLG. It is therefore expected from her. But sometimes, when everyone rooting for you is expecting you to do the unexpected, then doing something completely expected becomes the unexpected. Nothing currently on the charts sounds like this. And we all know no one can pull this sound off better than Mariah, even in her current vocal state. If y'all don't like it, then take a break and just remind yourselves this and GTFO are just two songs that may not be representative of the album. For all we know they may be the worst ones in there. Look, even Taylor Swift led her reputation era with the weaker songs. I know it's not the best comparison, and I may just be being too optimistic right now, but I guess I'm just too excited for the new album, even if only half of the people here are at this point. Bring on the album. I wouldn't mind it being called "The Tea", "Lemme Have My Tea", "Spilling the Tea", "Tea is Served", "I Was Told There Would Be Tea" or anything with the word "tea". Mariah is a music legend in the game. Legends aren't suppose to be releasing music that sounds like everybody else. Music legends are suppose to be innovative, thinking outside the box, being creative experimenting with the different sounds that puts them in a league of their own but managing to still maintain a balance of their signature, classic sound that made them superstars in the first place. Maybe it's time to pass the pen (84,464) by Bobby A from United States Don't get me wrong, I love With You. But it does sound like other songs she has written with other collaborators. I remember JD saying that basically when MC collaborates with someone else, she basically sings the melody and he creates the music from her melody. So that would explain why we have heard With You before. Musically and lyrically she is all out of fresh ideas. Therefore, it is time for her to let other songwriters bring demo songs to her to add more lyrics or change the arrangement. This is the only way I feel she can overcome the issue with all these new collaborations sounded like previous songs we have heard before. But I know she has said time and time again that just can't see herself just taking a song and being told to record it. So, today I mailed a letter to Jay Z, Tyran Smith, and Jay Brown asking them to intervene before MC15 drops asking her to go back into the studio and collaborate with Walter Afanasieff again others who are hotter than DJ Mustard and Prince Charlez. She doesn't need another flop album. Because if MC15 drops and ends up being another failure, she might as well start planning her retirement from the music industry. I would even be glad if she waited until April 2019 to drop the album with newer tracks and a new first single. I just don't think With You will make the Hot 100 at this point. It is catchy but not what we know MC is capable of creating. Man, I wish L.A. Reid was at the helm of Epic right now. He is the reason TEOM received WBT. MC, call up Walter Afanasieff today. Heartbreaker (84,463) by Randy from USA Well I wanted to wait to give my opinion on the song With You and I know you all have been waiting with baited breath. I am so disappointed. For a comeback single it is so boring, you can't understand the words because she's warbling in whisper. I will say anything is better as a lead than YME. But if she had given GTFO the actual lead single treatment, the album would have a better chance to sell more than 100K. I kinda think she will release something else. There's time since there's no release date or title at this point. Some of you keep posting about listening parties. What are they listening to? There's no info. Maybe she's gonna go back in the studio, where she's lived since 2015, and re tool the album like she did for MIAMTEC. I can't see With You gaining any traction at retail or among non lambs. I get that Mariah's choices sometimes disappoint her fan base, but it has gotten to the point where if any enjoyment is had with anything Mariah's doing, the delusional word gets thrown around and public shame is the norm if you still call yourself a Mariah supporter. I don't always love her clothing, choices and it means nothing more than I'm saying I wouldn't be comfortable wearing it. I do feel there's a lot of pressure on women in entertainment to "be sexy" and that's what I mean when I say I wish Mariah didn't try so hard to fulfill that. She's already such a beautiful woman without the extra stuff. Instead of calling her names what about having some compassion for her and why she makes some of her choices? Doesn't mean you agree with everything she does, I just don't see how ripping her apart helps anything. You can be objective without treating her like scum. She's a person with flaws. Celebrity can be extremely unhealthy as a lifestyle if you don't have a grounded sense of self, but she's not a monster. (Saturday 6 October 2018; 22:30)

Forever With You or GTFO (84,459) by DK from USA Mariah is a very smart, hard-working woman and one of the most resilient people I have observed in the public eye. At the moment she seems to be in a good place with a proper team behind her. The subject title of this message is not accidental. It's actually meant to filter the fandom and set the tone for re-establishing her territory in the ADD nation climate, where no one can sustain public attention for more than 1 minute, except for MC at Christmas time. Mariah has already broken records and I'm sure she wouldn't mind doing so in the future but the primary joy comes in doing what she loves, songwriting and singing. She has already offered great material in the past, including the more recent official efforts #Beautiful, Art of Letting Go, You Don't Know What to Do, etc, which did not do well commercially (based on her own standards) but were great pieces. What I am most surprised with Mariah is that she doesn't seem comfortable with touching social issues through her music. Considering the times we live in, I think this would have been a perfect opportunity to sing about love, unity in a divided would ala We Are The World, Earth Song (idea wise not sonically). A song with simple MC vocals and perhaps a group of children or mix choir (non-churchish) to support her message and a video of her walking normally in the streets holding hands with other normal people in the streets joining her chanting. Perhaps she is not on that mental plane now. I'm sure she is a busy mommy and business woman and in her mind she has plenty of time to push out future material. RocNation seems to be reintroducing her slowly into the mass audiences. The profanity is beyond subtle and playful that I doubt anyone outside of this room is noticing and it still makes her look like Mary Poppins in comparison with today's acts and lyrics. The two singles to date are kinda cute understated songs if she could also present herself that way even better (part of the reason why she lured in so many fans in the past, especially early career was her simplicity). I can not imagine presenting at work (9 to 5 job) and have people microanalyze my presentation, content, tone, physical appearance, and so on. It would be ludicrous. Let that marinate for a second. Single cover / lukewarm reception to With You (84,457) by Marissa from USA Shout out to Mariah for finally having the courage to showcase her so called "bad side" on the With You cover. It's been a long time coming and to me it's evidence that she's growing as a person. Regarding With You, I thought it would have been more appropriate as an album cut than a lead single. I don't understand why anyone would've though it was the best pick for a single. With the proper promotion, GTFO could've done much better in that position. I'm concerned though about how heated a lot of lambs are about the song. I feel like she's made a lot of strides that we had been begging for for years to clean up her emotions, mental state, image and professional life and I don't think it's a good look to go this hard on her for one of the first efforts she's made. I don't want her to see all of the angry feedback, get discouraged and regress back into her dysfunctional ways. I'm not saying pretend to love the song if you don't but I can see a person in her position looking at such venomous criticism and feeling like, why did I even try?
