Article: Mariah Carey shows off a toned figure (87,504)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|
|
She didn't have gastric bypass. That was a rumor started by Stella. You'd think most would've caught on to that when Mariah was never out of the public limelight for more than 3 days at a time. That's not a weekend kind of surgery. Mariah had begun working out over a 5 month period than was put on a specific 11 day liquid diet designed for her to melt fat and increase her metabolism in October. Mariah's nutritionist had a brief article about it, but it got swallowed up under all of Stella's "surgery" rumors.

"Trash ass". I love it. You know I hate to admit it but I was a huge R. Kelly fan. I gave him a pass about Aaliyah because like you, me and Aaliyah were about the same age so I really didn't care. I never watched the video tape so when Kells was found not guilty of the child pornography charges I just figured "oh well" and still continued to buy his music, etc. I just feel so bad that I supported this man and was seriously a true fan. I got to be honest, I am going through R Kelly withdrawals. I have almost all of his albums. Sorry but alot his songs are good memories for me. It's like I really can't listen to Chocalate Factory no more? Not even Stop Into the 90's or A Woman Scorned? How about the remix to Gotham City? What about the R double album? All those dang hits. I know I sound past pathetic about some trash bucket creep. With that said I promise you I will no longer support R Kelly. I am so sorry that it took me this damn long to realize the truth.

What I meant by separate the man from the music is I am able to still enjoy an artist's music even if they supposedly engaged in lewd and illegal behavior.

Yes. I think the costume should be white because in my mind our spirits are white and I like the idea of the skater representing her spirit - by herself in the dark with a spotlight on her while having to not only walk but perform on ice, which is slippery. Someone get MC on the phone. Actually though, I don't think Portrait would be a good single, but I do think it should have a video. I think all her songs should. Two to three high budget ones, a few low budget ones, and the rest performance videos.

I don't believe it's fake outrage. I think people's brains try to convince them it didn't really happen so that they can go on living their lives. When we are confronted with so much evidence (people's testimonies are evidence) we snap from our dream world and want to do something about it. He's using money and connections to commit his crimes and get away with them so by not supporting him with your money you're not contributing to or enabling the abuse. I don't think MC needs to make a statement but I don't think she should work with him again, no matter how talented he may be. The world is full of talented people. Also, I think the victims want us to be outraged and do something about it, otherwise they wouldn't be talking about it. Better late than never. Being a celebrity is a privilege and we (the public) choose who gets to be famous with our money. Let's choose right.

Your post made me think some more and the reason I find it easy to disown R Kelly is because I was never that into him to begin with. If it was Mariah Carey that would be harder because her albums have been the soundtrack to my life since 1990 when I was a little kid. I think I would still listen to her music that I already own, but I would not buy any new stuff.

MC and judging R Kelly (87,494)
by Geronimo from USA
| |
|
|
When Mariah worked with R Kelly it raised my eyebrows. Then I got over it. I wondered, though, if the industry was so full of abusive monsters that R Kelly was nothing special by comparison. Despite the fact that his 25-year-old abusive streak is suddenly a popular sensation in media I fear he's probably far from an anomaly. I hope that he is held accountable for the damage he has caused people and it held responsible for repairing as much of the damage as can be repaired. I hope criminal charges filed against him produce convictions. At the same time, I don't make the same connection people seem very excited to make - that his music should be banned, he should never perform anywhere else on the planet ever again, and that good and decent people would never dream of collaborating with him in the future. I wouldn't catch an Uber pool with him myself and I would also ask the driver to change the station if an R. Kelly song came on. But I just don't think he is that special and I'm not sure all of the loud trendy outrage being poured out now represents concern for his victims or a conviction to understand the nature of their vulnerability.
It makes perfect sense to me that people are outraged by what they are hearing about him. It especially makes sense to me that people are scratching their heads trying to understand why Aaliyah's family let her remain vulnerable to him and why adults who witnessed his crimes did not do more as witnesses against him in court and in other social contexts. However, it is very creepy for me to see that a television program can release all of this self-righteousness and fake outrage in media consumers. His crimes are certainly outrageous. But the media circus and the impromptu cottage industry of incredulous comments are getting to feel like a disgusting extension of the very entertainment world where his behavior is praised, rewarded, and accommodated.
I hope Mariah says nothing condemning him or excusing herself. I am super curious what she's thinking right now, though. The only people I want to hear from are the victims (if they feel like talking more to the media as opposed talking to their therapists and lawyers). I wouldn't mind reading the confessions of R Kelly's immediate enablers in the music industry who have covered for him and turned a blind eye for these decades, either.

Michelle Kwan is an icon. If she skated to Portrait, I would die. Her skating to Eva Cassidy's "Fields of Gold" was phenomenal. So much emotion. I always dreamed of her skating to "Hero" or "Music Box".

Randy, my brotha from another mother my post wasn't directed towards you. Please believe me I know you prefer those deep, emotional, introspective, personal songs that have lyrical content that is timeless. Well, nurse on Potriat for awhile. No I am seriously just kidding. Mariah would have more of those type of songs if she would stop writing with 50 people. Or, maybe she is writing and recording those type of songs however they are not making it on the album. You never know. I highly doubt that Portriat was the only song she wrote that has powerful lyrical content. As for Caution, I am not a huge fan of the album. I've stated previously that the album is missing exactly those type of songs that you are talking about. I wish it featured more songs like a Joy Ride, FLAB, Cry, For The Record, and Languishing. What's funny is that even though I am not a huge fan of the album, I know and can admit that it is a damn good album. Does that make any sense?

And if you want all the feels in the video get Michele Kwan to skate to it. Even though she retired years ago, she still skates and would give all of the emotion needed for a song like this.

Well R. Kelly has been trash for years. When the Aaliyah marriage took place I was the same age as her. I didn't believe that they actually got married and because I was young I didn't care. It wasn't until the video of him and the young girl came out that I stopped buying his music and once he put that gospel CD out that same year trying to act as if he was godly really sealed the deal for me. I'm not going to lie and say I'm going to stop listening to the music I already have from him because I love his music. It sucks that he's such a trash ass person. A lot of people still worked with him despite the tape because they probably didn't think the situation was as bad as it is so I don't hold anything against any of the other artists. If they work with him now is when I'll see them differently. Not only does he deserve jail, those trash ass parents and adults in his team need time too. They all knew what was going on.

There are plenty of talented people who aren't abusers. I choose to support them. I Believe I Can Fly was a part of my childhood but I'm going to scrub it from my brain. I worked for child protective services a long time ago and the big thing I learned in my time there is that there are a lot of sick people in the world. Most of the time people don't believe victims. Even the victims' own families a lot of the time. Mariah Carey is not the abuser and as far as we know she wasn't present when the abuse took place. If she was aware I'm sure she wouldn't have worked with him. For me the peeing on an underage girl in a video was enough to disown him but as a celebrity who has had false accusations made against her maybe she believed he wasn't guilty. A lot of times the brain doesn't want to accept something so terrible, uncomfortable, and shocking so we block it. We put our blindfolds on because it makes us feel better to pretend it's not real. Most of the time it is, though, so I believe the victims 100 percent of the time.

There's a very big difference between MJ and R. Kelly and saying you "separate the man from his music" is just irresponsible. We have known for years about Kelly. People in Chicago have reported for years that he posted up outside of schools to prey on young girls. He forged papers to marry and rape an underage Aaliyah who was never able to talk about the situation later in life (look up Dame Dash's comments). People stood there and allowed this to happen all for another payday. And we, the public, knew this too. A video featuring the man and a 14 year old girl surfaces in 2003 and we're gonna pretend we didn't know and we're gonna keep lining his pockets? I'm so disappointed in humanity. Or the lack thereof.

I just assumed she sent him Betcha Gon' Know and he just added his vocals to it or that he sent her several vocal tracks and she pieced it together. I'm disturbed by the allegations but I'm going to separate the man from the music like I did when Michael Jackson was accused of child molestation.

She worked with him in studio in Betcha Gon Know and to write new music, but their sounds were supposedly not compatible. He jumped on the TMB remix himself, but when Gayle King interviewed Mariah and asked about it, Mariah wanted the song to be officially released. She just ignored Gayle's attempt to get a comment about Kelly or his accusations.

"I wanted to give my fans and everyone a first listen that wasn't so serious. I've had so much fun making this album, and I wanted the first moment to reflect that light-hearted spirit." - Mariah Carey Mariah obviously fought for GTFO to be released first. During her Genius interview she even questioned the decision to release four songs before releasing the album. I'm not blaming anyone for anything. I have no complaints. I'm loving this album and era.

Oh I just read it on the celebrity news. I listened a lot to his music in the 90ies. But if all the things are true (and I can imagine it) he should be banned from the biz. He may be a great musician but as a human he seems to be scum. Just like Kevin Spacey and many others. I hate when people think because the have power and money they can do everything with everyone. And nobody will say something. So I'm a little disappointed Mariah did say nothing against R. Kelly. She has reasons to, but it would be nice if more people who are famous too would speak up.

Mariah has and can replicate her studio vocals live. Her voice is unpredictable but when the stars align she's able to do so.

He was featured on the remixes of Touch My Body and Betcha Gon' Know. However, I don't think they actually worked together because neither remix features new vocals from Mariah. Let's not forget this was during her copy and paste remix phase, lol.
