Agree. I have the albums 21 and 25 and I like the songs. But to listen to the whole album can be a bit boring indeed.

She posted a picture of them in what looked like a studio once. I was disappointed in her then for working with him and am now with her silence on the matter. Same with Ratner, Mayweather.

Portrait (87,475)
by Dove from United States

|
|
The visual for Portrait should be a routine by a ballerina or a figure skater in a dark stage or arena. With a spotlight on the skater or dancer. Something like this. This is just one of the first one that popped up when I serached figure skating routine. It would fit the song better of course.

Supposedly? It's very obvious that she can't replicate the vocals on her albums when she "sings" live. And the extreme studio trickery is a common practice for her.

So far in my opinion she has proven herself to be one note which after a while becomes extremely boring. But I will say I do like some of her songs.

I really feel someone from Epic or Roc Nation said no JD tracks this time. JD said that he recorded a bunch of songs for Caution. So why didn't we get at least 2 songs from JD?

It is a shame that this man had his name featured on a Mariah Carey song. I hope that they were never actually in the same studio together.

I understand what you mean Randy. "It's almost as if her music is getting younger as she gets older." I think of that since the "MOAIA" album. I enjoy the new album but I would enjoy some songs more without the modern f-language and so on. For example I really love the lyrics from "Clown" or "Touch my body" (great humor and funny). I mean normally if you get older you prefer other lyrics than with 16 or 20. But hey we got "Portrait". The lyrics are pure emotional Mariah.

GTFO - instant classic (87,468)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
Honestly, I feel like GTFO is the strongest track on the new album, and should've been the first single. This song just draws you in and it has repeat value, I find it a breath of fresh air every time it comes on unexpectedly. Now that I have listened to "Caution" in its entirety, I can honestly say that "GTFO" is my favorite out of all 10 songs. My top three songs from "Caution" are: 1. GTFO 2. The Distance Feat. Ty Dollar Sign 3. 8th Grade

Can you point to me where Mariah stated GTFO should've been the first single? Are we going to start with "The Justification of Mimi", in which everything that supposedly goes wrong is not Mariah's fault as if she doesn't have a say. Now we don't have Stella, JD, Randy, etc. to blame, now it's Epic or maybe Jay-Z or probably Beyonce.

Randy, that's when Mariah had confidence in penning a whole song by herself. When she did that, it was evident. I love when Mariah collaborates, but the fewer people involved in writing the lyrics, the more quality and Mariah we get. Those lyrics she wrote in the 90's weren't drilled into her head, she came up with them. I hate when some of these lambs imply that everything pre Butterfly wasn't the real Mariah, as if Tommy or somebody else handed her those lyrics. I hope one day Mariah finds her muse and write the lyrics of a whole album by herself. I also hope she doesn't take another 4 year period to release music. From MIAM to Caution the vocal decline is scary and she's only 49.

Yup Giving Me Life is another example of someone using gay lingo to write a song, and the music and lyric is boring. 8th Grade is boring. I think MC has set the bar so high that starting with Rainbow there has been a gradual slide of music and lyric quality. Daydream and Butterfly were perfection. Not a single song should've been left off. Now we have albums with great moments but aren't thematic, cohesive or lyrically deep. I still get chills when I think of the second verse of Butterfly the song.

She played it safe vocally on Caution most likely because she was derided by fans during the MIAM era for recording songs she supposedly wasn't capable of replicating live. She was also accused of using studio engineering and trickery to do so.

Giving Me Life is my favorite song. This excerpt from Pitchfork's review of Caution explains what I love about the song better than I ever could. "The dreamy, guitar-god coda appended to the simmering Giving Me Life, a bittersweet look back that glides through Barbra Streisand references and an extended face-off between Carey and hip-hop demigod Slick Rick before entering its final phase. Devonté Hynes (aka Blood Orange), a student of slow jams, is Carey’s co-producer here, and his ability to sustain a sumptuous groove then explode it into something completely unexpected clashes with Carey’s controlled charm in a spectacular way."

You're missing the point Special K and B. It's not Adele I prefer. It's the music. MC can do Adele better. Look at My All, Outside, Close My Eyes, CTTA, Through The Rain, Reflections (Care Enough), WBT, ISIL, Right To Dream, Languishing. There's not an Adele song out there that compares lyrically and vocally. Nor is there any songs on MIAMTEC or Caution that compares lyrically or vocally. It's almost as if her music is getting younger as she gets older. Do you think lyrically GTFO or Up Out My Face or I Don't fits on Music Box? She was 23 at the time. And by the way I love both those songs but overall as an artist where is the timeless music? Besides Camouflage and Portrait where's lyrical emotional depth?

I love Caution so much. Should have been the single. Second "Giving me Life" and third "8the Grade". And for the younger people "Stay Long Love You".

The music teachers know what they do. But I must admit I like Adele too. She's one of the few younger ones I can listen to, who have a unique voice and is able to write songs. Taylor Swift has a thin voice and Ariana is for me somehow like a kid who is just trendy.
