Re: Photoshoots (92,677) by Jeff from USA
I've always been a big fan of the Shake It Off photoshoot. She looked amazing there.

Re: Hip pop (92,659) (92,674) by Mirage_Nunez from America
Exactly. It was the jarring difference between a squeaky clean pop balladeer and a hardcore street hip hop rapper that made the Fantasy remix different from the previous R&B and hip hop collaborations. Heavy D and MC Lyte weren't hardcore rappers (like ODB) and were considered pretty safe mainstream wise.

I think Mariah took more of huge musical risk (at the time) with blending mainstream Pop and gritty Hip Hop, her impact helped bridge the gap between hip hop and the mainstream, which is why Fantasy is considered the groundbreaking moment that ushered in a new wave.

Lol. I should have read ahead to the next post because I was googling like why can't I find this W Magazine spread. Lol.

Haha, you caught that. I spell it in Spanish so it happens to me all the time. Thanks for correcting though.

1. Honey album art is my favorite
2. Rainbow
3. Tie between Glitter and TEOM

Re: Hidden song - Love Take Time (92,636) (92,671) by B from USA
Love Takes Time was added to the album after the they had already started manufacturing the album. It's on all of the albums but it's not listed on dozens of copies and is basically a hidden track on those albums. Tommy was smart to include it on Mariah's debut because it would sound out of place on Emotions and it became her second #1.

Nice topic. For me some iconic shots of MC I love are the microphone pic from the debut album, the Rainbow album cover, and the Merry Christmas album cover and associated pictures from the shoot.

What is wrong with me? It is actually "Susana" and it is "V Magazine". Thank God the weekend is approaching.

Iconic photoshoots (92,668) by Tijl from Belgium
On the matter of Susannah's remark about iconic photoshoots, which would be your favourite? My top 3 is:

- The artwork for the Butterfly album.
- The shoot she did with Karl Lagerfeld for W Magazine.
- All the artwork for the TEOM album and singles. I believe during
that era her management hit all the right notes. Lol.

Mariah using a picture of her and Tommy for LinkedIn, lol. The shade.

Re: Hip pop (92,649) (92,666) by B from USA
Music critics and journalists have called the Fantasy Remix the most important recording of her career which speaks for itself. She made it the norm because of her massive crossover appeal.

Touring (92,665) by Will from Australia
It's funny but years ago I always wanted Mariah to do more tours and would have given anything to see the Daydream tour but she never came to my country. Now (after attending four concerts in three countries) I wish she'd give the tours a break and concentrate on making music. But I get that she needs it as touring is the main source of income vrs new music.

Haha, yes most people aren't going to remember it, but funny how we know all her iconic photo shoots. Maybe we can credit Mariah and David with the selfie. Queens of all things.

Re: Salaam Remi (92,661) (92,663) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Salaam and Amy Winehouse made magic together. Timeless music. He also made very respectful mixes of some of Marvin Gaye's songs on his posthumous record released last year. Guy is very good at what he does. He'd do very well with Mariah.

Salaam Remi (92,661) by T from USA
I wonder why Mariah has never worked with Salaam Remi. He's helped produced some of the biggest songs plus has worked with artists that she loves and respects; Nas, The Fugees, Doug E Fresh. I hope she's involved with Lee Daniels' new movie in which Salaam Remi is producing the music.

It is hilarious, though, how the 3 of the 4 images feature the 3 men in her life she has been with the longest - the first husband (LinkedIn), the second husband and baby daddy (FB) and current boytoy (IG) and then a completely random throwback men's mag type photo from a racy photoshoot from almost 2 decades ago (Tinder). The sense of humor is just on another level.

Re: Hip pop (92,657) (92,659) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Just like I said - it was Mariah who popularized it. The Fantasy remix was the biggest hip pop song of the 90s, even bigger than Black or White, a pop hip-hop song that went to number 1 in 1991 as well. Janet's You Want This featuring MC Lyte was actually a top 10 hit in 1994. But it wasn't until Mariah came along with the Fantasy remix that such type of duet gained so much popularity mostly due to the stark difference between Mariah and ODB's styles of music at the time. It was a very unexpected, unconventional move and that made it seem like such a novel idea at the time even if someone else did it first. If anything, the recognition is actually less about Mariah getting the song to #1, but more about her proving that a full-fledged successful hip-hop crossover is possible for an established pop artist by merging the 2 genres seamlessly.

Re: Hip pop (92,652) (92,658) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
That's different, because Mariah isn't a hip-hop artist to begin with. Otherwise she would have been credited for that even before Fantasy came along. Her rapping on Prisoner just means she incorporated a few rhythmically spoken lines into her own song and is obviously not an example of her popularizing the "thug love duet", with "duet" being the operable word. By your logic, Janet Jackson's Nasty and What Have You Done For Me Lately would also qualify and would have even been more influential as they were released earlier and were actual top 5 hits. A pop artist infusing her own songs with hip-hop by herself is different from the same pop artist collaborating with an established hip-hop artist, and it's the latter that Mariah is actually recognized for.

Re: Hip pop (92,649) (92,656) by Tijl from Belgium
Maria [sic] was the first to get a "Hip Pop" song to #1. That is why she is remembered as the one breaking boundaries.

The remixes (92,654) by Nikki from usa
I'm pretty sure the songs were chosen for the US lambs. We don't get all the extras that are automatically included in the international releases. I would've never heard Miss You otherwise. Through the Rain's remix was a #1 on the dance charts and I believe the rest also charted well or were popular in the US on the club scene here. I always wondered if some of the choices were based off Mariah's favorites or not. I wouldn't mind another release with some more thought put into it and some actual promo this time. Daydream 2020 with its remixes for the era too?

Do these fools seriously think that bikini picture from Rolling Stone is a selfie? That's a high quality photo shoot.
