Re: To Die For - Sam Smith (92,891) (92,901) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Chin up, mate. You'll find someone eventually. But best not to listen to songs like To Die For around St Valentine's Day. Listen to Fantasy or something like that.

I love the pink glittery dress the most and need a Mariah Barbie in it ASAP. With a gold mic and gold glitter earpiece accessories. It would have been better if she wore it for a slow song where she just stands in front of the mic though. Knee length would have been better for moving around.

Re: ASCAP (92,839) (92,899) by Nikki from usa
I wish I could remember the source, but I recall her having a 3 album deal. She's only put out 1 album of new music. A compilation of old hits doesn't constitute an "album" by label standards. She still owes them 2 more and no one really knows about the terms of the renegotiated deal or if it went through. She currently doesn't have her own label.

Re: Mariah needs to recover her voice and stop touring (92,886) (92,898) by Nikki from usa
It's not a bad idea, unfortunately until that contract is up she's legally obliged to be there. Mariah's touring/residency schedule doesn't provide her enough time to do all the things she needs to do to care for her voice. When she did the Daydream tour she only did 1 concert per week. That was at her prime and her youth. It goes to show just how much a concert takes a toll on her voice. Now, she's singing back to back shows then taking one day off before she's back again. She's supposed to have 2 days off between concerts as a minimum.

Funny how people are talking about how good she sounded and yet self-professed lambs think she sounded so bad that she should stop performing.

Re: Mariah needs to recover her voice and stop touring (92,886) (92,896) by Randy from USA
You know what scares me the most? Every artist loses their voice. Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, and Celine Dion have lost quite a few notes off of the top of their range. They can't ad-lib the full voice belts they used to. But they all can still sing their verses. MC struggles through verses and has been for the last decade in my opinion. And yet she recorded two albums with verses and notes she had no hope of replicating live. Why put yourself in this situation? Why not record songs in the key of Right To Dream and Help Me Make It Through The Night? What trips me out is that MC is touring to make money. No one buys records. Why can't she cut back on her lifestyle? Does she need more than one house? More than one car? A stylist, make up artist, umbrella holder, driver, nannies? She's turning 50 next month and no I don't want her out to pasture or to retire. But if she keeps going she will not be able to sing at all. Note Aretha, Gladys and Patti still perform(ed) in their 70s. They sound OK. Dionne sounds an old tired mess. I fear MC will sound worse. That's my greatest fear. And for the last time MCs voice hasn't just started to fray. I beg of you watch the 1996 concert Daydream in Tokyo. Perfection. Now watch her performances in 1997 and 1998. It went bad really fast. She started this lip syncing shit in 1999 during the promotional tour for Rainbow. Something happened. That's why we want her to address it. More than nodules and more than Tommy having her locked up in Sing-Sing.

I agree with you. People like JLo get praised for their dancing, and less for the singing. I say, I want Mariah to do more of the singing, but still incorporate some dancing and moving around. I think I wouldn't complain if she moved more.

Have any of you seen that Family Guy episode where they made fun of her for not moving? I don't want people to talk about her that way. She is the best singer of all time.

Re: Mariah needs to recover her voice and stop touring (92,886) (92,892) by Bobby A from United States
We probably won't get a new album this year because MC needs to rest her voice. And plus too many long overdue albums are coming this year from Sam Smith (May), Sza, Drake, Adele (September), and Rihanna that will overshadow MC's new album. Is it just me who has noticed that MC never seems relaxed when she sings in front of a Vegas crowd?

To Die For - Sam Smith (92,891) by Bobby A from United States
This song makes me want to cry. I am right here clinging on to every word in the song. He is singing about my life right now. I just want somebody to die for. Sam Smith did it on this song. By the way, anybody heard the rumour this weekend that Mariah will be on his new album in May?

Don't Forget About Us (92,890) by RibbonB from USA
Squeeeee, so I was just leaving Wal-Mart after a simple Sunday shopping spree, when I heard DFAU on the radio. It's been so long since I've heard that song or any Mimi song on the radio, so I was so excited. The radio popped on soon as I started my car and the song was midstream, so I screamed. Mimi singing one of my faves. The staccato that that is, the superb self-harmonizing that that is, the sentiment that that is. Saaaang Mimi. I just had to sing some Mariah praises this Sunday.

If this is not a testament that Mariah can still sing (and I'm not saying "sing" as in just like in her prime), I don't what is. With her current situation right now which is far more fine compared to 2014-2017, I'm just appreciating that she's trying and it's evident.

Mariah needs to recover her voice and stop touring (92,886) by MC1989 from Spain
I've been a huge fan for decades now. I've been very supportive even at her worst moments. I went to her Christmas show in Madrid in 2018 and when Caution came out I thought it was one of her best albums in her entire career. When she released Caution I was proud of her again. She gave us some really good live moments during The Caution Tour and she made a little effort by changing the setlist (Glitter medley etc), and the visuals were good for the first time in ages (With You live at The AMAs and the stage production of her Caution Tour). 2019 was a great year for her. As a fan, for the first time in many years I witnessed how she was gaining some respect back and public recognition for her long career and the living legend that she Is (Billboard Icon Award, 19th number one, Songwriters Hall Of Fame induction recently).

Yesterday watching the videos from her Vegas residency I cringed. The only one that I really enjoyed was Endless Love, where she manages to sing 99% live with a beautiful tone. But in most of the songs she sounds restrained and hoarse again except in some little parts, no belting anywhere, no sustained notes, playback at its worse. (There's a video during the medley where she's still talking while the first line of Honey comes in. Why? Just why does she needs to lip that first easy line?) She barely moves with that pink barbie gown (she even addressess it), what makes the experience boring. I don't need her to put out a choreographed show and dance as if she was Beyoncé because her talent lies in that voice, that beautiful tone and resonance, and the magic of that huge catalogue of songs crafted by her. But if the voice is at its worse, the lipped parts are so obvious, and she just moves badly around a stage I don't want to see it. It's painful. When she's focused and she works hard, she still can slay and own that stage. But what if for the first time she tries something new? Surgery maybe? Re-learn how to use her voice? But I'm afraid she's becoming lazy and the main reason for these concerts is not promoting anything new, not for the fans, but for the money.

I'm really tired of the chez-longue intros (really, who direct these shows?), the champagne moments on stage and the long tight barbie gowns and corsets that prevent her to move. I would really love her to finish this boring Vegas residency and focus on improving her singing. Focus on recovering her voice, go to the best doctors only people like her can afford, work with the best vocal coaches, train daily, learn new singing techniques because it's obvious that everything else is not working. Time to stop and face that "voice problem" that causes her so much insecurity and be with her family. Focus on new music if she wants to (music that she can replicate live) on her memoirs (I'm really looking forward for that release this year), but she really needs to move from the spotlight for a while, until she comes back with a renewed sense of confidence in her instrument, and can give a good performance with no need of lipping. And learn some easy dance steps would be great too.

If she doesn't stop, I'm afraid sooner or later we'll have another viral video like the one I mentioned before where she's badly lip-synching.

A healthcare professional that doesn't actually understand what schizophrenia is? And one who calls people they believe to have a mental illness a "wrongun"? You're as much of a healthcare professional as I am a ballet dancer. But well done for trying.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the argument still stands. Mariah should save what voice she has left, stop with endless touring. But the medley was good yesterday. And Endless Love. We enjoyed them.

Andrew, with every post you become more enamored with your own "spiel" without making any sense. Nobody will come to hear you sing, ever. So cancel the security guards and the Pespsi deal. It ain't going to happen. By the way, rumor has it Madonna would love to be your opening act.

Re: Bill (92,875) (92,881) by Tijl from Belgium
Bill, I wasn't adressing you. I have read your honest and very moving testimony and I feel for you. But it seems you have accepted what has happened and you decided to move on. I am just terribly fed up with certain members of this "fan" group who continuously and incessantly keep bitching about every bloody thing Mariah is doing wrong. She is still going strong and she is the last of a dying breed: a genuine and authentic talented global superstar. If we really have to talk about "splendeur passée", let us all focus on Madonna. That is a really a career shot to hell.

Re: No vocal audit (92,876) (92,880) by Andre from UK
Why are you here Andrew? I've read your messages and you are either several people using one account or suffering from undiagnosed schizophrenia. I say this as I'm a healthcare professional with 25 years experience and you Andrew are a wrongun.

Your feeble argument about truly caring for Mariah is as tired as you are. Does it make you feel better to trash talk other people? The answer is no, of course it doesn't, that's why your messages get worse over time. Delete your account, get help and take a moment to look at yourself. The truth is you don't hate Mariah, you hate yourself and it's really obvious.

Re: Bill (92,877) (92,878) by B from USA
Mariah slayed last night so enjoy eating crow.

Everyone said she'd never score another #1 and yet she just did. Mariah Carey can still sing she just can't sing like she did in her prime which is the result of aging and yet some people refuse to accept that she's not 25 years old anymore and want to compare her current voice to her voice when she was in her prime which is ridiculous and ignorant.

Mariah's voice isn't a shot as Whitney's was. Mariah's surprise performances of TAOLG for fans on Fallon prove that when she's well-rested and has rehearsed properly she can still sing and hit the notes.

Re: Bill (92,868) (92,877) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Perhaps the way to actually approach these whackjobs who literally care more about getting a Mariah fix than Mariah's actual voice, career and legacy is to ask them direct closed questions:

Do you think Mariah's voice is bad?
Do you think Mariah's voice is getting worse?
Do you like that Mariah uses lip sync for all high andsustained notes?
Do you like it when Mariah's voice cracks?
Do you think it's awkward when Mariah avoids uneasy party's of songs by using deflection through mumbling or audience participation?
Do you think that Mariah should keep touring and straining her voice?
Do you like that Mariah's bad performances online now outnumber her good ones?
Are you happy that Mariah's reputation as a great vocalist is increasingly called into question the worse the issues get?
Do you want Mariah's legacy to be the-singer-who-lost-the voice?

Let the delusional people answer those questions "yes" or "no". The aim here isn't to be horrible to Mariah at all. It's to actually say to her we know something is very wrong and perhaps you should calm down with all this touring because it's too much now.

If she lip syncs or cracks at Brighton Pride the gays will eat her alive. Game over.
