For the purposes of this board, I care about two things: Mariah and truth. Conversely, I despise two things: idiots and lies. Sorry 'bout dat.

I was, but ultimately opted to question why they passionately shade Mariah's discount-boosted sales while curiously don't do the same for the newer, more current artists today who discount their albums way more often and even at lower prices than Mariah's current promo. Never got any response from them, although they were too quick to reply to other lambs who defended Mariah by insulting them. So transparent.

I check the iTunes top 100 rnb songs charts for many countries regularly to see if Mariah is charted. She is on the Brazilian charts all the time, but for the US, UK, Australia etc. she is [rarely] charted. Only once in a while you can find Mariah on the rnb charts. On the same charts you'll always find at least three Whitney Houston songs. This makes me a bit worried for Mariah's longevity.

I do not believe anybody here said there was a conspiracy. I asked if anyone could rebut the claims made by Showbiz411 as to the veracity of the unlikely rise of an album previously not selling anything to number one on iTunes. That people are now buying it on Amazon Music does not seem, on the face of it, to do that. "Post hoc ergo propter hoc" comes to mind. To be clear, let me write it in simpler Engish for you as I believe historically you have struggled: I am pleased that Mariah is at Number 1 on iTunes; I would like the claims of wrongdoing shown to be wrong.

I would hope Charmbracelet is next to be shown some love. It came and went with a bit of a whimper, but there are some brilliant songs buried on that set. Lyrically, I rate it second to Butterfly. Vocally, I do appreciate the approach she took to the record, but I do have to be in the right mood for it. But tracks like Through the Rain, The One, My Saving Grace, Subtle Invitation, and I Only Wanted really shine.

E=MC2 is up to #159 on the album sales chart (from #14,630) for a sales increase of 9,101%. And it's currently #3 on their pop dance album chart and #2 on their Soul chart. Is this a conspiracy too?

At this point I don't want to know why and all that. Just very happy this happened. $4.99 for a lot of songs must have had a lot of people curious about the album in general. Twitter got everything amped up.

Make that a couple hundred at most. Many of Mariah's most passionate US fans have been known to purchase multiple copies of her albums as a show of support. I wouldn't be surprised if they're the same people who were hugely responsible for the pure sales of her last few albums. Now that it's discounted, that likelihood is increased. Granting that at the very least, 300 of the thousands of retweets of the justice hashtag for the album represents US fans who actually went ahead and bought it, that's enough to take it to the top at least for the day.
It's a curious situation, and such feat is more impressive now than the Glitter one because it's actually on Spotify, it isn't part of a fan countdown to the release of a new album, and it is hardly the holiday season yet. But I think this is just a perfect storm of events, initiated by the fans who showed their support at an opportune time.
Looked into the comments sections on news articles on Facebook about this and many people are really pleasantly surprised about the unexpectedly random resurgence. I am just hollering at the hardcore Madonna stans who, for some reason, have found their way there trying to downplay this fan movement in any way they can, instead of doing the same for their idol. Who knows, maybe this will happen to any of Mariah's other less successful albums in the future? I'm feeling Caution is up next.

iTunes (93,810)
by Andrew from the United Kingdom

Out of 1500 albums on the iTunes Mariah is at No.1 with E=MC2 and No.557 with Greatest Hits. There are no other entries in a list of 1500. At No.1500 is the Original Soundtrack to Master and Commander: The Far Side of the Earth - a film which was on general release 17 years ago. Now I am no expert but I would hazard a guess that this has sold maybe a couple of copies at most. Which would lead me to postulate that, save for the collection of 90's singles, nobody is buying Mariah albums anymore (which is quite something in a list that contains such modern gems as Crazy Frog - Crazy Hits & Jim Croce - The Definitive Jim Croce). But E=MC2 is No. 1? I do hope I am wrong but this does not seem right.

"For all the Mariah fans moments like this should be celebrated, don't allow bitter people like Roger to dampen the moment."
I think everyone is pleasantly surprised. But anyone with a reasoned approach to life (which probably excludes half the people on here) must surely be wondering if this is indeed real, how this happened and why this happened, given that it came from out of the blue. This is the second time this has happened to Mariah. It's not impossible but before yesterday I would gave said implausible.
E=MC2 is my favourite post-Glitter Mariah album and I have long since said I prefer it to TEOM. I am glad for her. But this is somewhat strange and needs investigating. If for no other reason than for rebut the claims to punish those that you ate so confident to claim are lying. Without any substantial proof to the contrary.

Yeah I don't get how this can be a scam. Streaming by fans is last decade's news. And I haven't heard of any collective effort to suddenly bring E=MC2 back to the top. Of course there's also the album's price tag. It would be interesting to know how this happened.

Roger has had it out for Mariah since she parted ways with his BFF Cindi Berger. Also chart data and Billboard reported the album topping the iTunes album chart. For all the Mariah fans moments like this should be celebrated, don't allow bitter people like Roger to dampen the moment. Congratulations MC.

No it's legit, it's slowly climbing the UK iTunes chart as well, if it was some sort of algorithm then it would've shot up all around the world to #1. But places like UK and Canada where it is not discounted it is climbing a lot slower.
One other thing. If some lamb knew how to game the system believe me they wouldn't have randomly chosen E=MC2 they definitely would've done it for Caution or even better, the debut to mark her 30th anniversary. Apparently they did a song battle on social media the night before and a lot of her Einstein songs won a few battles.

While I've been described by many as cynical - and it would be miraculous for "lightning to strike twice" with these "justicefor..." hashtags - there is some logic at play here.
All artists are cancelling their releases due to COVID, so there are literally no new albums to top the charts right now. Therefore, it may not take that much of a percentage increase in sales to top iTunes.
And on a side note, we all know how much stock to put in anything from Showbiz411.
And with all due respect to his "receipts". Is there anyone aside from your grandmother who is ordering physical CDs from Amazon in 2020?

This is a favorite performance. As everyone else has said she looked so free and comfortable. I miss her getting on stage and just having a good time. I would have loved a studio version of her doing this song. She did the SOS Band proud with this performance.

Scam? (93,799)
by Andrew from the United Kingdom
| |
|

According to Showbiz411 it's a scam. It would certainly make sense if it were. I cannot fathom how this could actually have happened to Mariah twice. And, with Glitter, it's not like it hits number 1 then maintains it with non-believers noticing it then pursuing it. Glitter disappeared straight away. How embarrassing for Mariah if she celebrated it and it turns out to be a scam. The embarrassment doesn't bear thinking about. But can iTunes really be scammed?

E=MC2 just hit #1 on the US iTunes chart for the first time since 2008. This is crazy but also so well deserved to a spring/summertime album that is so easy to listen to it's sick. "And you never got a chance to see how good I've done, you never got to see me back at #1."
