Jimmy Kimmel (53,596) by Abraham from USA Mariah did good with "VOL". I think she could give another spectacular performance like she did on BET. She just needs to keep vocal training and to always be confident. As far as LA Reid is concerned, don't really care for him. Never have, he seems like one of those selfish people who only cares about money. Mariah can most definitely have another hit song. I am really looking forward to the next album. With all due respect (53,595) by Terri from USA Contrary to some of the negative comments about MC's BBA performance, she still was good. I was concerned that she would lip sinc or not hit the high notes. I sat close to the TV timing her breathing, lipping, and sound. They were in sync. You could distinguish her actual voice. Are her vocal acrobats as sharp and on point like back in the day? No. But it's still the best out there. Patti LaBelle on DWTS and Chaka Kahn a while back, have both adjusted there changing voice abilities. It's evitable. But all three can still out-sing today's top poppers. I bet not one who would want to be on stage with either of the 3. When radio folks and journalists knock her singing and even her emotional and mental stability, I ignore them. Just as many media outlets also praised her performance. Did I bemoan her cancelling a show knowing the fall out and possible impact of attendance on her future shows? Yes. But that's MC. As her fans she can make us a bit nervous. However, she always comes back. Her accomplishments, even now, "#1 to Infinity" climbs the charts (in spite of LA Reid's predictions?), her business acumen, writing talents, and ever growing net worth, she can laugh all the way to the bank. About JLo, the media wants a firestorm. On American Idol she's often spoken highly of MC. On BBA: maybe she was thinking, "Damn, she's still got it" or "Will I be able to carry a Vegas show?" or "I wish I could just stand there and sing half as good." That's my take, dahlings. More thoughts (sorry, last post today) (53,588) by Dove from USA I forgot to add that when the radio host made those comments I switched to a different channel and they were talking about MC too. They were a little bit kinder but still negative. It's a man and a woman. The man said, "It's so sad. What a gift she had." And the woman said, "I think she is a troubled woman and she has always been a troubled woman." She said more but I don't remember. Then they brought up the article that said Mariah was stuck in a cage of her own making. Then the man repeated that it was truly sad that she lost her voice because MC had one of the best voices of the past 30 years. Oh and they also mentioned from the article (NYT I think) that the reviewer said she would prepare to go for the high note and then not (in Vegas). A story (53,586) by Dove from USA I think being kind to people and maintaining good relationships is so important. The day after the BMA's I was listening to my regular morning show on the radio and they were talking about the BMA's. It's two woman and two men. They played a clip of MC's performance and one of the men said, "She recovered in the end." But one of the women said, "No, she shouldn't do that anymore (the high note at the end)." When Infinity came out, they were talking about it and the same woman said, "I can't understand anything she's saying." And started talking about something that happened the night before. I can tell by the way the one female host talks about MC that she doesn't like her. I'm thinking either MC or someone in her camp was rude to her or she's believing the tabloid stories. They love JL though. JL has called in to the show and she's always super nice and open when asked questions. This reminds me of something that happened with two Drs I know. A woman filed a malpractice suit against Dr A. Dr A is brilliant, he is one of the smartest people I've ever encountered, but he doesn't have great people skills. He's autistic. It turns out it wasn't his fault and when the woman found out it was Dr B's fault, she dropped the suit. Dr B has amazing people skills, he looks people in the eye and makes them feel amazing. People will forgive a lot if they like you. MC should call the big radio stations to give 15 minute interviews. And be nice and open. Just answer the questions. (Wednesday 20 May 2015; 15:46)

I remember being a kid and listening to it over and over on the subway after studio sessions. I wish I could press rewind and delete some moments from the video and some of the overproduction on the debut album. That's why I included the version from MTV Unplugged on this album. I Don't Want to Cry: This song was my first collaboration with Narada Michael Walden. The label was very excited for me to work with him because of his collaborations with hugely successful vocalists. We wrote I Don't Want to Cry together and it was very important for me to keep my identity as a songwriter. I was very grateful to him for the work we did together. (Wednesday 20 May 2015; 15:18)

Infinity video (53,583) by Musti from UK I'm getting a little frustrated too with the video release. But perhaps this is a good tactic to give the song its best build-up before they hit the market with the video. All these public appearances have clearly helped push the sales of both the album and the song. The more exposure they get, the more likely that the video will be picked up by viewers when it is finally released. By the looks of it, it will be her best video since Obsessed. In my opinion it was the video (more than anything) that helped make Obsessed popular. I'm trying my best not to be critical of Epic's moves as I do believe they genuinely want to make Mariah popular again. As a few of you have already mentioned, even LA's remarks can be seen as downplaying Mariah's diva behaviour and making her likeable again. I have good hopes from this video. Ty (53,580) by MC1989 from Spain I totally agree with you about JLo. I wish this year they honor Mariah with an award for her incredible achievements, some legend award to praise and remark her 25 years in music. She already has these kind of awards but in this moment it would be a great way to recognise her importance. Mariah doesn't dance, she may not be the best dressed or stilish woman in the business but she belongs from another school, she's among a generation of vocalists who proved their value focusing on their talent. She's a great songwriter and she has a genuine style, a personal and recognizable voice. She still has a great voice (although I didn't like her first day in Vegas and sounded bad for me), and her last studio album was very good, but she doesn't fit in today's commercial standards. People's idols nowadays are people like JLo, Katie Perry etc. who aren't vocalists. When I listen to Taylor Swift and all these people who are popular now and I still don't see anything original or genuine in their works, just copy-paste from many other melodies and simple, catchy and lack-of-content lyrics. I am not a big fan of "Touch my body" but the video was really funny and it did help a lot to promote the single. My thoughts are the same for Infinity. #1 To Infinity booklet / Someday and I Don't Wanna Cry (53,578) by MC1989 from Spain Yesterday I bought the CD with the European tracklist. I really appreciate Mariah's comments on each song and the rare pictures included in the booklet. However, I prefer the American tracklist. Can someone tell me what does she say about Someday and I Don't Wanna Cry, which are not included in the European tracklist? Jennifer Lopez (53,577) by Ty from USA This chick has really pulled a fast one over on the public. She's basically a pretty lady who plays the same role: herself in each of her flop movies. She can't act, can't sing at all. She has zero vocal ablity. Her brand, she had stylish videos, great producers, great style, that's it. Keep on at your own pace, Mariah (53,576) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines I'm someone who loves to criticize, at times even when unwarranted, and I'm not proud of that. But when I see current Mariah clearly doing her best to promote her new song, compilation, and latest endeavors, it would just be so heartless of me to still have the nerve to nitpick her performances, even if it were out of love. This is probably the most focused she has been since the early MOAIA era, and the best promotional efforts I have seen for her material from her label since the E=MC2 era. I'm so happy for her. She finally seems like she's in a really good place in both her professional and personal life, and it shows in her interviews. She's gradually gaining back her faith and confidence. I'm way too cautious to call it another comeback, but for the first time in a really long time, I'm feeling hopeful for her future. (Wednesday 20 May 2015; 11:45)

From what I heard, she was given names of 3 specific current artists, which included Beyonce and Nicki and a third person I forgot. She was asked what she thinks about their music. The game ain't what it used to be (53,574) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines Like, really. It's a tougher world out there for any singer. Trends are more unpredictable, and following them is no guarantee for success. This is all mostly because of today's younger demographic. They're generally impatient, less open minded, and have the attention span of a kid. Young people don't follow J.Lo for her music. They just see her as a cool aunt who dresses well, but couldn't care less when she actually performs. So on top of the ageism which is increasingly proving to be a real thing, we have a majority of the most rabid music buyers who would choose trend over talent/quality/history any day. Sad but true. We're at a time where someone as young and influential as Rihanna is currently struggling to get a hit single. And to think she just had her last #1 hit less than two years ago. Exactly. Times are hard. Maybe we've been too hard on Mariah. (Wednesday 20 May 2015; 11:07)

The issue with L.A. Reid (53,572) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter Let's not confuse things here, I see a lot of people trying to explain that L.A. did not have any malicious intent when he said expecting MC to get another #1 is not realistic. I don't think anyone in this board thought he said that as a shade or that he is being malicious. We all know that MC and L.A. have nothing but love. I think that people are just upset that he made such a statement that the words "another number #1" and "not realistic" were used in the same sentence. And I get that. Look, I was one of the first to say that I think L.A. is doing this because he wants to downplay Mariah's capability to lower expectations and then hit people with a monster album. He is simultaneously reminding people that she is a legend (with the new compilation) at the same time also he is trying to make people feel that even this legend is vulnerable (to the current situation in the industry) and he is trying to get rid of the "untouchable diva" image that MC has had going which made people hate her and feel unconnected to her. He is trying to portray her as a normal human being. I get that and it's a good move, but I still don't think he should have made such a statement which can easily be taken extremely negatively. Because now people will be like "Mariah's last resort, L.A. doesn't think she has a hit left." What he should have done was just say that our interest is just to put out good music and remind people why they loved Mariah in the first place. Making a statement about her not being able to get another #1 was a bit too bold and unless he did it intentionally to make headlines (because any publicity is good publicity) I think the message should have been phrased differently. Now, on Kimmel even Mariah was like "I don't want to surpass the Beatles." So I don't know if she is saying that because L.A. told her to (because we know MC loves her record of #1's and why shouldn't she) or that she just said it because she didn't want to say anything that might be blown up to sound like she thinks she is better than The Beatles (which I think she is oops, I said it). So this can all be part of the image overhaul plan. I want people to feel connected to Mariah again, I don't mind her fun diva image but it's time to get rid of that part of being a diva which people mistaken for ego and arrogance. So L.A. do your thing, but don't make claims that may backfire and cause people to lose faith in her music. You are her boss, you are on her team. Shelly / TS / longevity (53,570) by Ethan from United States I agree with you Shelly although I didn't recognize your other abbreviations. The whole music industry/award shows are not legit anymore. Back in the days, Grammy Awards was the last one to be televised after BBMA and AMA. Nowadays, you have I Heart Radio and BBMA shows presented after the Grammys to show that it's about hype/trend. You will definitely won't see that with the Oscars because it's legit. I was disappointed in TS as well. If she and the entire audience stood up for the auto-tuned/prerecorded music of Selena Gomez's The Heart Wants What It Wants performance at the AMAs, then she should have stood up and showed some respect. But I'm happy that they got Idina Menzel to do the intro. It's truly a singer-singer to one another recognition. In the end, it's about longevity. I do believe that TS will go far because she's talented but at some point it will fade out as well. Mariah did it in 93-96 with Music Box and Daydream and she did it again in 05-08 with TMOM and E=MC2 (I still believe it was a success although there was one hit of Touch My Body). And she will always have Christmas as her own. Nobody will touch that. Haha. Yes nobody. And L.A. Reid is bluntly frank. We see that in Celine and Madonna who both have a hard time of having their music played on the radio even after collaborated with younger artists and producers. LA / Alex from the UK (53,569) by Musti from UK My sentiments exactly. I just have a few more things to add. When she first came out Mariah had fans from all age groups. It's no secret she's lost a lot of fans from the higher age groups, either because of her R&B sound or because they think she's lost her voice. She can't sell like she used to unless she finds her sweet spot again with all her fans and age groups. A standards album would help bring back those fans. A duets album would spark an interest from people who no longer care about her. Mariah lives for R&B, not even LA can change that. But she's released commercial or concept R&B albums more than half her career. She's too versatile and talented to stick to the same formula. There's simply no artist out there whose career parallels hers. Everything she does is a first for someone of her caliber. I'm very happy to see the new album rising up, especially in the UK. People are finally taking notice again. If she really wants to blow up the charts, I'm sure she still knows how to. (Wednesday 20 May 2015; 9:07)
