Re: MC's next album (88,925) (88,931) by RibbonB from USA
Sorry that should have ended as JLoud, meaning JHud.

Before we move on (88,930) by Jeff from USA
I know Caution didn't perform well with sales, but I'm just not ready to move on to "the next album". I have literally listened to the album in my car every day since it came out. I simply can't let it go. I'm still in bliss listening to this album. It's brilliant.

Re: MC's next album (88,920) (88,929) by RibbonB from USA
Those Mariah biopic and series ideas involved Brett and/or Stella as co producers, so I suspect they might be off.

Re: MOAIA (88,923) (88,928) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Obsessed is maybe the one Mariah song I almost can't listen to. Yes, the message is fierce and the video is fun, but the song is ugly and doesn't sound good when performed live.

Re: MC's next album (88,920) (88,927) by RibbonB from USA
If Mimi is actually writing her autobiography, then perhaps it's on hold until she's worked that all out. I've said before that Dionne Warwick's granddaughter could be a great fit, she has the look and a pretty good voice. She was a contestant on The Four last year, her name is Cheyenne Elliott. She's on YouTube.

Re: Daydream (88,924) (88,926) by B from USA
Underneath The Stars is the best song on Daydream. It's one of Mariah's best songs. I hope she gives us a song like UTS or FOJ on her next album. I love when Mariah is in storyteller mode. Her lyricism is next none.

Re: MC's next album (88,920) (88,925) by RibbonB from USA
Actually no B. I'm referring to the elusive Amazing Grace documentary from the original live church recordings of Amazing Grace. It is finally being released over Easter weekend for all to See. Here's a great write-up about it.

I keep hearing that the love events were transcendent, which makes sense as the recording is amazing. Aretha herself held it up from release over many years before she died and for other reasons it languished in a vault, but it's finally being released and was out in time for Academy Award consideration. I'm not looking forward to the biopic, starring JLo.

Re: Daydream (88,910) (88,924) by Stacey from USA
Exactly. To me her most impressive song from Daydream is Underneath the Stars. Her voice in all its glory, using all facets of her voice is unmatched. Looking In is probably my favorite song off that album. Even at 41 years young, that song is still the story of my life. Funny thing is I find myself seeing Portrait as part 2 of Looking In.

Re: MOAIA (88,913) (88,923) by B from USA
Obsessed does sound out of place on Memoirs. However, it's the most radio friendly song on the album and a welcomed change of pace.

Re: MC's next album (88,915) (88,922) by B from USA
Mariah is going to continue releasing R&B albums for the foreseeable future. She'll probably make a gospel album when she's in her mid to late 50's.

Re: MC's next album (88,918) (88,920) by B from USA
Are you referring to the Aretha biopic starring Jennifer Hudson? Who do you think should play Mariah in a biopic? What happened to the Starz series based on Mariah's life? Is it officially over?

Re: Randy Jackson (88,916) (88,919) by RibbonB from USA
I think Mimi and Randy are eternally friends, but she only showcases those who can be with her 24/7 and those come and go. I do think Idol was a sore spot with her and maybe that is part of it, but her professional friends have lives and other jobs to attend to, so they can't just hang out 24/7 like her paid staff. JD is her bud, but his appearances also ebb and flow.

Re: MC's next album (88,915) (88,918) by RibbonB from USA
Keep dreaming Robert. That might be nice, but is highly unlikely. And unless she's really ready to throw down, she should never even consider it. 2019 is the year of the Clark Sisters' biopic on Lifetime as well as the long awaited release of Aretha in the making of Amazing Grace live footage. I'm totally giddy about seeing this forty year old footage in April.

Randy Jackson (88,916) by Bobby A from United States
Why doesn't MC speak about or hangout with Randy Jackson anymore? I know they had some disagreements during his brief stint as her manager. But I would have never thought that would destroy their friendship.

MC's next album (88,915) by Bobby A from United States
I have this strong feeling that MC's next album will be a gospel album. It makes logical sense now to record a live gospel album in a church with the help of Daniel Moore, Kirk Franklin, Donald Lawrence, Loris Holland and James Poyser. The album could be her amazing grace. She has the perfect voice now to demonstrate her vocal techniques in a live church recording. The only thing that worries me is her need for total perfection. Anybody who has experienced singing in a black church, knows that nobody cares about imperfections when the spirit hits you.

Re: Daydream (88,904) (88,914) by B from USA
Daydream was the first album I ever bought and it is perfection but Butterfly is my favorite. In my opinion, When I Saw You is the vocal standout of Daydream.

Bill, I do agree that "Obsessed" messes with the flow of the album but I liked how feisty MC was by directly shading M&Ms.

Re: Daydream (88,908) (88,912) by Bill from the UK
Well I was at the Daydream London concert and that was amazing. I was so glad I got to see her during her prime. I do agree her live performances during 1995 and 1996 were fantastic, which makes it even more intriguing that the album's vocals aren't as impressive.

The last karaoke (88,911) by Andrew from London, UK
Whenever You Call. It's as if Mariah recorded it in 1994. And it's the last powerhouse ballad with pace and momentum she ever recorded, unfortunately. The last karaoke ballad. When someone posted here that they want Mariah to make "real music" again, I believe this is what they meant. Songs not overproduced, not layered with cut and paste vocals, not templated as a slow beat with an octave higher scream at the end - just classic songs with moving and universal lyrics. Not "Cos when you love someone you just don't treat them bad." Although it is nice for Mariah to let her kids write her lyrics.

Re: Daydream (88,900) (88,910) by Randy from USA
Tyler, the reason we love Daydream as a vocal album is because during that time, she was able to replicate album vocals live without assistance from a wall of background singers (at that time she had them on stage to back her up not to swallow her imperfections) and without a background track.

Re: MOAIA (88,897) (88,909) by Denny from United States
The thing about "Obsessed" is that even people who were not Mariah fans recognized it was brilliant - the lyrics, everything about it.

Re: Daydream (88,900) (88,908) by Denny from United States
Not the most vocally impressive album, but the most vocally impressive era. Listen to any live performances, from live tv appearances, AMA to MSG to Tokyo Dome and you'll get it.

Re: MOAIA (88,902) (88,907) by Bill from the UK
Agree, Ribbon is a master stroke and the best thing on the album. Obsessed the absolute worst. I have a playlist with Obsessed and those tacked on remixes removed and the album flows wonderfully. Obsessed is so jarring and upsets that laid back dreamy vibe of the album.
