2005 MC would have nailed it. I am hoping MC will shine again with her music, on the stage, and multiple Grammy wins. It may not be 2025, but next year possibly.

Edward I dunno. I think the music is what the audience will respond to. That set list is killer. Put Mariah on a pedestal and let the set, dancers, lasers, pyrotechnics do the work. Again let me remind you. Emotions, Dreamlover, Fantasy, Always Be My Baby, Honey, Heartbreaker, It's Like That, Touch My Body and Obsessed. That's crazy and then to end it with Hero, We Belong Together. It's got massive sing along appeal. Sure we're tired of those songs but the general public would love it. And I think this would help undo some of the thaw her out November 1 mentality.

Frustrated lamb (108,154)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
MC's voice is what commanded the stage in 90s to the late 2000s. It is like what a skilled orator has with his extraordinary communication skills. MC has lost her extraordinary ability to command the stage by the absence of her voice. She reaches for it during performances, but it is just not there anymore. Therefore, MC appears lost on stage because she is battling within herself her inability to deliver the vocal performance she given to us for so many years. This is just my opinion of what is happening with MC. It must be heartbreaking for her, but she committed to these shows.

Frustrated lamb (108,151)
by Brandon from USA
| |
|
|
The most recent clips from the 2025 shows are cringeworthy. In one clip, she was "singing" ILT and there was literally no expression on her face, no energy or anything. In another clip she's singing Fantasy and looks lost as though she's been told to follow the dancer around the stage. She's looking around like she has no idea what's going on in that moment. The comments on the videos were in shambles. MC can only keep this up for so long until mainstream media starts asking questions and she's forced to address it or stop performing until she gets herself together. Does no one on her team ever watch her performances back and see that something is wrong? This era is so frustrating as a lamb.

I have watched MC's 2006 American Music Awards perfromance of DFAU like 10 times in the past 10 years. From the ensemble to the praise from the audience to her "We made it" conclusion to her funny acceptance speech, has made watch the perfomance so many times. It is my all time favorite MC song as well.

Of all her live performances of "Make It Happen", VH1 Divas Live 1998 is my favorite. I will never get tired of watching it. The hair, the outfit, the raspy voice, the choir, the band, the stage, and the audience's engagement through dancing are all perfection.
How about you, what's your "Make It Happen" live performance throughout the years?

Barbra and Mariah (108,142)
by Bobby A from United States

How can we get MC's attention by asking her to give us her plans for MC16 this year? Maybe everyone should send her a tweet today and tomorrow at 12pm Eastern asking her to tell us. I am sure it will get her attention. I feel that she should let us know if it is going to happen this year. We deserve some new information. What does she have to lose after saying for 3 years that she has been working on new music? Like myself, I can tell everyone on the board or not on the board is growing impatient with MC16 being delayed year after year since 2022. It is like waiting for a pay raise after so many promises and you never see it on your paycheck.

Barbra and Mariah (108,135)

|
Barbra: 36 studio albums, 12 compilations, and 15 soundtracks
Mariah: 15 studio albums, 6 compilations. 0 soundtracks
Do you see where I'm going here? 2 years later, the album she's saying already have 5 songs done, and she still can't finish it. And now Barbra, who is 82 is releasing another album, while Mariah is doing Vegas with no new song, not even a collab, a remix, or anything.
It is so annoying that every single year, after very Christmas peaks, she can't come up with something, anything. Annoying and sad really. Forget voice or anything, I don't think she's got artistry left anymore tbh. Voice can be layered, remixed and be done with studio work. Artistry you can't, that's really what's she's lost.

Barbra Streisand and Ariana collaboration (108,128)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
I am trying to imagine how a MC and Walter A. ballad would sound in 2025. So let's think back to their early ballads like Love Takes Time, So Blessed, Hero, Just To Hold You Once Again. Those songs would suit her current voice well. Here is my analysis of the four songs.
1. MC sings in a reserved way. 2. There are not a lot of riffs and runs. 3. She doesn't do any heavy and prolonged belting. 4. Walter A.'s chords and production would make music critics say MC is returning to her original form that gave her hits after hits. Now if they did get back together for some songs on MC16, it would make 7 years of waiting for MC16 well worth it.

I have been trying to figure out for years why she is treated like royalty. Why does the Beehive go crazy when she releases new music or announces a tour? Also, I think there have been a lot of ghost writers on her albums who have given her songwriter credits. Take away all of the ghost writers Beyonce couldn't write one hit song.

MC can get her voice back. I believe in my heart that she will. I feel bad now that I was so excited for a new album every two years from 1990-1999. Maybe every five years would have been better to preserve her voice. Just thinking out loud. Any way I believe Teddy Swims is the first male artist to come along in a while to have the vocal technique and range like MC had in the 1990s.

I completely agree with you, Jamie. It pains me to accept that the voice we once knew is gone forever. That's why I no longer enjoy her live performances, not out of hate, but because it brings a sense of sadness. The whistle register was the last piece of her vocal magic, but now it sounds flat and unpleasant.
Honestly, I'm more excited about The Rarities II than anything else at this point. It has dawned on me that Mariah hasn't recorded anything in six years, likely because she can no longer deliver decent vocals, even in the studio. It's truly heartbreaking.
That said, I'm deeply grateful for the incredible legacy and discography she has left us. When she was at her best, she was truly in a league of her own.
At this point, I just want to celebrate one last victory, her reclaiming the record for the song with the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. If nothing else, it's a testament to her enduring impact on music history.

Pre Grammy awards show (108,085)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
R&B artists were recognized with many awards during pre Grammys ceremony. Chris Brown won for Best R&B Album and Muni Long won for Best R&B Performance. I feel that there is about to be a shift in the music industry this year with R&B album releases. Chris Brown's album is mostly full of afrobeats that took him out of his comfort zone. Now if Beyonce wins Album of the Year, there will certainly be other R&B artists stepping out of their comfort zone. MC, this is your year to step out of your comfort zone and release an album you have never done before. Start a new genre of music, MC. I know you can do it with some help from some industry heavy hitter producers and songwriters.

My 2025 - hopes, dreams, wishes, and prayers for Mariah Carey (108,075)

For me Charmbracelet is another outlier album. What do you think if 7 Aurelius and Dre and Vidal were the only producers on Charmbracelet? They could have really made Charmbracelet sell more copies and not been such a disjointed album in my opinion. I feel that Lyor Cohen gave MC some bad advice by telling her to choose Through the Rain as the first single. Charmbracelet was an great album, but it could have been better.

Caution is an outlier for sure. The production and the way Mariah wrote is something I've never seen her do before. That speaks to her finding a new way to express yourself like the lyrics are very conversational and like she's trying to send a message to someone or explain herself in ways that are very "real world". I'd love if she continued to do that on future albums. So I say yes to Dev Hynes. He made a really great contribution to the Sugababes "Lay Down in Swimming Pools" but it never got released because of sample clearing. It's from 2013 but you'd never know listening to it now.

I really do enjoy Muni Long's tone and you're right, she has adopted the way MC projects her head voice and that's probably why their vocals blend so well. I've caught her on a few interviews giving very much The MC Academy of Media Training. I hope the twinning continues in future projects.

Haha. I am in fact a Butterfly aficionado. But I think the only ringtone I ever bought of MC's was Whenever You Call. IKR? Other than that I use her rare releases because I get asked, Who was that? To which I could then gush over Mariah in all manner of ways without having to sound like I'm trying to.
Her live tributes to Patti, Stevie and Diva's Live always used to get the best responses. I don't know how other people can't distinguish her tone and inflections from hearing just one note but that's the world we live in.
Let's hope there are some live performances gearing up for this year that will become future classics. I think of With You at the 2018 AMAs is the closest thus far (ugh, the visuals) but, YMMV. I hate that the original upload that had more than 5 million views on YouTube got taken down with no explanation. *cries*

We need to have more fun this year because it is going to be different year on so many levels than 2024. I want to manifest Mariah working more with Blood Orange (Devote Hynes). I loved "Giving Me Life" on "Caution", and I loved his work with Solange Knowles on the "True" EP. I think the production on his songs (I guess you'd call his style alt-R&B/chill wave) and a more detached vocal would work well with Mariah's current voice.

Steve, it was just an innocent post about Carrie Underwood's performance and how she came out on top. There was nothing political about the post. Can we move past 2024? There are great things to look forward to in 2025 and beyond like MC's long awaited new music, the MCA family is growing, the first new daytime soap opera in 25 years, Beyond The Gates debuts on CBS in one month, Finn is Luna father on B&B, and I am moving back to the Atl this summer.
