About Edward from USA:

New Year's pic post (107,931) by Edward from USA
As long as Mariah doesn't start pulling any of those sometimes desperate Madonna moves, I'm going to give her a well deserved tit-pass on this one. Yes, the color of the dress gives the illusion she's on full blown Playboy mode, but there's not denying she looks stunning in the pic.

I'm choosing to stay optimistic and hope this is her way of hinting that new music might be coming out soon, probably two albums.

Why is it that people can't enjoy steamy, hot, Lionel Richie sex without being tied down to a relationship? Maybe he and Mariah are just exercising their birthright, you know, cardio with benefits.

AIWFCIY (107,903) by Edward from USA
When I said it didn't do as well last year, I was referring to December 2023 (one week), compared to December [2024] (4 weeks).

AIWFCIY (107,899) by Edward from USA
Since "AIWFCIY" didn't perform as well last year, I didn't expect it to do much better this year. There are some strong contenders this season though. Ariana's "Santa Tell Me" cracked the top 5, and Kelly's "Underneath the Tree" entered the top 10. Both songs have been steadily rising in popularity, following a similar trajectory to Mariah's "AIWFCIY".

Daydream (107,894) by Edward from USA
If remastering Daydream just means cranking up the volume on every track, I think they should leave it alone. For the past couple of decades, remastering hasn't really added much to '90s recordings. Most of the time, it just makes the albums louder without actually improving the sound. To me, remastering only makes sense if it really enhances the audio, fixing any distortions and bringing out details that couldn't be captured digitally with the technology available back then.

In my humble opinion, the lossless digital version of Daydream sounds perfect as it is, so there's no need to mess with it. For Daydream 30, I'd rather see them release some of the tracks that didn't make it onto the album. Based on the B-sides from that era and "One Night" from The Rarities, any unreleased songs from that time would be more than welcome.

Last Christmas (107,870) by Edward from USA
That might be true for Spotify US, but don't forget it's not the only metric they look at. YouTube, for example, has way more total usage with two billion users, even though it's behind Spotify and Apple in paid subscribers. Mariah's airplay and sales are much bigger than Brenda's too.

Last Christmas (107,865) by Edward from USA
I had no idea they were giving "Last Christmas" a push with multiple releases this year. You'd think people might be getting tired of "AIWFCIY", but judging by its streaming numbers over the years, it's actually getting more popular every year.

"AIWFCIY" performance on Global Spotify on December 24th over the years:
2024: #1 - 24.86M
2023: #1 - 23.7M
2022: #1 - 21.27M
2021: #1 - 17.42M
2020: #1 - 17.22M
2019: #1 - 12.02M
2018: #1 - 10.81M
2017: #1 - 8.06M

Numbers don't lie.

Last Christmas (107,858) by Edward from USA
"Last Christmas" (24.55M) trailed "All I Want For Christmas Is You" (24.86M) by just over 1% in Spotify streams on Christmas Eve.

I think "Last Christmas" will eventually be a number one. Hopefully, it happens after Lil Nas X hands the torch back to Mariah, he's been holding it up high for quite a few years now.

Ed Sheeran (107,856) by Edward from USA
In my opinion, Ed's voice would blend better with Mariah's voice. I like Bruno, his pen game and delivery, but his songs usually have a moment where he goes all out vocally, and judging by the "Yes, And? Remix" vocal fiasco, I don't think Mariah's voice is in the kind of condition to match that. Ed, on the other hand, would complement her voice perfectly.

Album sales (107,847) by Edward from USA
Mariah doesn't sell albums like she used to, and that's just the natural progression of things. No artist stays at the top forever, it's a reality of the industry and of life. Just as our generation did, every generation gravitates toward new artists who speak to their current experiences and culture. Mariah music spoke to us. The same thing happened to legends like Aretha Franklin, Barbra, and even Whitney before Mariah. They were once dominant forces, but as time passed, new stars emerged, and the spotlight shifted.

Mariah's legacy is cemented though, she's one of the greatest artists of all time, with achievements that few will ever match. But today's music landscape is different. Streaming platforms have replaced physical album sales, and newer artists like Ariana Grande dominate the platforms for now. Even Ariana, as popular as she is today, likely won't hold the same position in a decade, because new artists will take center stage.

Let's not be delusional and think Mariah is the "It Girl", she isn't. It's not about fading relevance, it's just evolution. Sure, album sales aren't what they used to be, but Mariah's cultural impact and artistry always keep her in the mix. And when that time of year comes and she gives the signal, you know it's time for her to defrost and for the Christmas magic to happen.

Bee in my bonnet (107,842) by Edward from USA
Luis Miguel is an exceptional singer with a powerful voice. He could definitely keep up with her back. And even now, he sounds amazing and he never lips on his concerts. The fact is, when Luis Miguel heard the final mix, he didn't like how their voices blended together. With Rainbow being such a rushed album, Mariah didn't have time to go back into the studio with him. If they'd had more time, I'm sure they could've created something great.

AIWFCIY (107,839) by Edward from USA
Robert-Anthony, if it were just up to the Lambs, AIWFCIY probably wouldn't have hit the top or become as popular as it is now. Her core fanbase isn't big enough anymore to push the song to the top on its own. The song's really got a life of its own at this point. It's the regular listeners, many of whom might not even know her back catalogue, who are the driving force behind its success. In other words, it's the general public that's made AIWFCIY such a big hit.

Unlike Brenda, Mariah's name and achievements are still a big deal in the music scene today. Her concerts, public appearances, Christmas releases, social media presence, and loyal fans all give AIWFCIY a boost on the charts too.

If she secures two more weeks at number one in December 2025, she would break Old Town Road's record as the song with the most weeks at the top. This week, she has already surpassed Old Town Road's record, becoming the song with the most weeks at number one on streaming.

Greatness (107,825) by Edward from USA
I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this, or maybe it's just me, but Mariah's whistle register has deteriorated to the point where it doesn't even sound like her anymore. I'm pretty sure if some of us have noticed, she's well aware of it too. I felt really sad when I heard her part on Ariana's "Yes, And" remix, it sounded unpleasant to the ear, even when studio tweaking was involved.

I kind of feel that Mariah might not believe she can deliver great vocals in the studio anymore. if that's not the case, it's hard for me to understand why she hasn't released at least an EP for her loyal fans in six year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely happy with AIWFCIY breaking records and setting new ones, but if that's all we're going to get from her, it's starting to feel like a one-trick pony to me, especially when we know the greatness she's capable of.

Passion (107,812) by Edward from USA
I hate to rain on your parade, but Mariah's passion for creating new music doesn't seem to be the same as it once was. Even when she talks about it, there's a noticeable lack of the excitement she used to have when she couldn't wait to share what she had been cooking up in the studio. She's far from being in the vibrant "Mimi era" energy.

She should team up with some big names like Rihanna, Beyoncé, Ariana and a few others to release a collabo album. It feels like only her core fanbase is eagerly anticipating new music from her.

Week 3 (107,807) by Edward from USA
AIWFCIY has already tied Old Town Road for the most weeks at number one on streaming (20 weeks). If it remains at number one next week, as projected, Mariah Carey would set a new record. She would also be within three weeks of reclaiming the record "One Sweet Day" record.
