Next week's race is tight (107,798)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
When Brenda hit number one last year, it was only for the first two weeks. As Christmas Day gets closer, Mariah's numbers are way stronger than Brenda's. I'm pretty sure Mariah will stay at the top for a third week, and most likely a fourth week as well.

Talk of the Charts has Mariah at number 1 with a tight 5 point lead over Brenda Lee for next week in its midweek prediction (chart dated 28th December with tracking week ending on 19th December). Let's hope she holds on for a 3rd week at #1. She could possibly have a 4th week as well for the tracking week ending 26th December.
If all goes her way, she could get her longest number 1 title back next year - this time solo.

Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is the most-streamed holiday song of all time and officially the first holiday song to break 2 billion streams. Congratulations, Mariah. The way I see it, Mariah will stay on top until the end of the year.

So happy (107,771)
by Edward from USA

AIWFCIY is already projected to hold the number one position on the Hot 100 next week. Even though it's still an early prediction, the song seems to be performing really well across streaming, radio, and sales. The competition is tough though, RATCT and LC made huge jumps to their respective top five position on the chart.

Marc Shaiman (107,763)
by Edward from USA
| |

|
Unlike Walter Afanasieff, Marc Shaiman brings a unique touch as an exceptional lyricist. "Christmas Time Is in the Air Again" and "One Child" stand out as the best written and produced tracks among the four original songs on the album. These songs come closest to recapturing the musical quality of the Merry Christmas album from 1994.

Marc Shaiman's two Christmas songs with MC reminds me how MC can just hum the melody at the piano and any piano player can reproduce exactly what she hummed. I just know that is how Christmas Time Is In The Air Again was created. We need an album just solely produced by Marc Shaiman.

One wish or a possible fact? (107,756)
by Edward from USA
| |
|

I anticipate that All I Want for Christmas Is You will secure two more weeks at number one this holiday season, while Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree and Last Christmas could each claim one week at the top. This would position AIWFCIY just four weeks away from breaking the record for the most weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Could it be possible (107,747)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Lil Nas X has tied his own record with Tipsy, as 19 weeks remains the longest a song has ever stayed at the top. Given that Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas Is You lost a bit of momentum last year, I didn’t expect it to perform as strongly this year. However, it seems AIWFCIY might still put up a tough fight for the top spot this season. It could either dethrone Kendrick Lamar next week or face a dramatic diva showdown with Brenda the following week. It's going to be interesting to see how things will play out.

I want the latter to happen just to see this happen haha. "Brenda might knock Mariah right out of her stilettos and snatch her wig off or Mariah might have Brenda relocated to a nursing home for a couple of weeks." Jokes I think AIW has a good shot this year. Is she now competing with Old Town Road or Tipsy? Because I think Tipsy has the most weeks at number 1 right now ya? I could be wrong. I'm tired of these one hit wonders dethroning our queen, I would have been fine if it was one of bigger artists.

Could it be possible (107,744)
by Edward from USA

On the Billboard Hot 100, Kendrick Lamar holds seven positions with new songs from his latest album, GNX. These positions include spots 1 through 5 and 8 to 9. "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" by Shaboozey and "Die With A Smile" by Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars hold positions 6 and 7, respectively, but are marked with descending bullets, indicating a decline.
If Kendrick Lamar's "Squabble Up" does not remain at number one next week, it’s highly likely that Mariah Carey’s "All I Want for Christmas Is You" will take the top spot as the holiday season continues to heat up.
If my predictions are wrong and Kendrick Lamar stays at number one, Brenda might knock Mariah right out of her stilettos and snatch her wig off or Mariah might have Brenda relocated to a nursing home for a couple of weeks.

A song could reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100, yet rank only number 10 on the Holiday Chart. This happens because each chart reflects different aspects of a song's performance and caters to specific audiences.
The Hot 100 reflects overall popularity across all genres, combining metrics like streaming, radio airplay, and sales from a broad audience.
In contrast, the Holiday 100 Chart focuses solely on the song's performance within the holiday genre. It factors in specialized radio airplay, genre-specific streaming, and sales data relevant to that category.
So, a song might dominate the mainstream charts due to widespread appeal, but its performance within a specific genre may be weaker in comparison resulting in a lower ranking on that genre specific chart.

TJ's point still holds though. How is AIW higher on Hot 100 than Rockin' Around if the latter is number one the holiday charts? Maybe Hot 100 uses more or different measuring metrics than the holiday charts or the tracking dates might be different?
Reminds me of a similar question I have for the Grammys at times. Sometimes songs that have won song of the year or record of the year have not gone on to win in their respective pop/rock/country etc field. You're saying this was the best song all year across the board but it wasn't the best pop song?

These are clearly two distinct charts. The Holiday 100 focuses exclusively on Holiday music, while the Hot 100 considers music from all genres, making the competition significantly tougher. As you can see, only a few of the currently most popular holiday songs have made their way onto the Hot 100.

And somewhere on the Holiday 100, the top 10 looks like this:
1. "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" – Brenda Lee 2. "All I Want for Christmas Is You" – Mariah Carey 3. "Jingle Bell Rock" – Bobby Helms 4. "A Holly Jolly Christmas" – Burl Ives 5. "Last Christmas" – Wham! 6. "Feliz Navidad" – José Feliciano 7. "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" – Andy Williams 8. "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow" – Dean Martin 9. "White Christmas" – Bing Crosby 10. "Santa Tell Me" – Ariana Grande
Since the Holiday 100 usually hints at how the Hot 100 is going to play out, Mariah better grab some glue and secure that weave because Brenda, rocking slow but steady from her chair, is going to try and snatch it.

New music? (107,653)
by Edward from USA

I truly believed that with MC turning 30, Mariah would go all out with new music, a fresh video, and a TV special. Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case. Considering Brenda Lee has already hit number one on the Billboard Holiday charts, it feels like the perfect opportunity for Mariah to bring her A-game this season.

Christmas tour 2024 (107,623)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I wasn't going to comment but since you asked, I expected Mariah to go all out with the production, especially with the Merry Christmas celebrating its 30th anniversary. Unfortunately, it feels like more of the same to me. Mariah isn't glancing at the monitors because she's forgotten any lyrics, she's watching for her lipping cues. She appears dazed, and her platform heels are so high she can barely take a step. For a festive show, the energy is severely lacking. I'm not impressed at all. On a positive note, she seems to have added a woman to her dance crew, finally.

Really? Do you really think the performance is live? Am I too obsessed with this or have I become too distrustful of her? I've felt obliged to watch the performance again, but I still see the same. Poor me.
For the record, I don't question the multiple tapings, I mean, that's something recurrent in televised performances. For example, "It's a wrap" on López Tonight or the medley on American Idol.

Performances like this are usually recorded multiple times from different angles, which can sometimes give the impression that playback was used. For instance, the VH1 duet of "With You I'm Born Again" with John Legend was taped 3 times, I know because I was in the audience. The woman performed one song, but she delivered it live. Credit where credit is due.

Guys and girls, I don't wanna spoil the moment, but the performance is playback from beginning to end. Just like The Celebration of Mimi in Vegas (except for a couple of adlibs here and there). I'm afraid MC is not singing live again (at least for a while). The quality of her voice has worsened considerably in the past couple years, and live on stage is where she feels most stressed and insecure about it. So now she just plays it safe by rerecording everything in her current voice and having improved the lipping technique. At least we can enjoy lots of new vocals recorded in a studio. For what it's worth, I think I'm starting to be finally at peace with this.

The mike was definitely on. We have to give her credit for this performance. If you look closely, paying attention to her mouth, neck and demeanor, you can tell when she's lipping. To be honest, judging by recent performances, I thought it would be more of the same, but I'm glad to have been proven wrong. I'm a happy for her.

Robert-Anthony just tends to have a lot of feelings. When the board goes quiet, he panics and jumps in with a random topic just to keep the conversation alive. But don’t take him for granted, one of these days, he might get himself a boyfriend, and the frequency of his messages could drop to just four or five per day. Then you'll end up missing him.
We love ourselves some Robert-Anthony.

I will speak for myself - I am quite because people with your writing style reject me from even putting an effort to write anything.
I'm tired of constantly reviving old conspiracies about choosing her singles or old songs and dissecting how would they sound in a different arrangement and would could be and so on and so on and so on. It is tiring to me and because of that I just don't engage. I am only interest in the present. How to help to see her on the top again and not live on old fame.
