Maybe Jennifer and Mariah wouldn't need to collaborate on a serious song. Maybe they could do something else too. Something charity related. It would be funny if they did that AI song I Don't Know Her SNL style.
They could lock themselves up together somewhere beautiful to hash out their beef and work that karma out. I'm almost certain they would come out of that experience best friends. I think they both need that. It's lonely at the top. Not a lot of other people can relate to their lives and success. Jennifer seems like a solid person. I don't think she would throw MC under the bus. Maybe when she was young and desperate for success she would have but age and life usually make us wiser.
Even if Mariah doesn't respect her musical talent, there has to be something she respects about her. Even if it is only her talent at being a celebrity. Jennifer really does come off as very likable. Honestly, that and her looks are what got her as far as she got IMO. And she is a hard worker. That's noticeable. She's always trying to be better and doesn't take her opportunities for granted. What she lacks in natural talent, she makes up for in hard work, looks, and likability.
The best art is when people bleed out for it. They could get all those feelings out and write a song about it. Even better if it's a funny song. MC needs to clear up this karma so everything starts moving smoothly again. It's causing blockages right now. Energetic constipation. Ha ha.
A funny song with Eminem would be talked about too but I don't know if I trust him to not throw her under the bus.
We don't know if she would never cover a current artist's song. Has she said that? I'm giving suggestions of things that would get her talked about in a positive way. Covering one of Taylor's relatable songs would get her talked about if it sounds good. Taylor wouldn't throw her under the bus, either. Taylor's careful with her energy. Taylor is like Mariah in that way, they usually only come for people who came for them first.
Another thing, she needs to give back. She could do something like Fiona Apple did when she donated royalties from her song "Criminal" to the While They Wait fund, which helps refugees. Orange is the New Black started using it as their intro song at the height of its popularity. I'm pretty sure Fiona didn't do it for that reason but it got her song heard again. Maybe she could do a charity thing with Jennifer Lopez for a cause they both care about.
Last thing, I don't know if he would do it but I think Steven Wilson should produce her covers album. His albums are always so precise and clean and crisp. He's a Scorpio. He's a musical genius (IMO) and probably knows al lot of good studio musicians who could work on the album. I don't want her to go this way permanently, I know her heart and soul are in R&B, but we need to break up the monotony.

Some random idea (111,839)
by Dove from United States

The comment you made about Mariah doing a duet with Jennifer Lopez made me think about the movie What Ever Happened to Baby Jane. It's with Betty Davis and Joan Crawford. (It's free on Tubi right now.)
They were rivals in real life and they did the movie together because they knew their rivalry would garner interest in the movie and it did. There was a TV series about it with Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon called Fued. It was pretty good.
I don't know, honestly I think Jennifer Lopez and Mariah might like each other. They have a lot in common. Kind of like how Joan and Betty might have also been best friends if they hadn't been put in competition with each other.

Some random idea (111,824)
by Lara from Middle East
| |
|

Next compilation idea could be The Covers like she did for The Rarities. Mariah has her way with covers disc 1 could be covers of recent popular songs with their author (might be expensive though to get the copyrights?), for example imagine her covering IDGF with Dua Lipa, Versace on the Floor with Bruno Mars, Please Please Please with Sabrina Carpenter etc. and disc 2 will be all the covers she already did. More wild, imagine her doing a duet with JLo, she's singing and JLo dancing. If there's any other single to get from HFIA, I'd like it to be Nothing is Impossible. It's her most relatable song. HFIA is beautiful but feels more personal. An idea for the video clip could be like a mini movie on her medical struggles that could explain why she's so stiff. And how despite it all she's still in the music industry because nothing is impossible.

Covers albums (111,836)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
I love the covers album idea Lara. Mariah's songs are beautiful but they have the same themes for the most part. When she covers other people's songs, it's refreshing. She takes them to another place. I would prefer if she covered older songs though. In my opinion older songs were better.
(Other than Taylor Swift because she has a large fan base whom I think would listen to it out of curiosity and be introduced to her voice. Nothing from the new album though. I would choose My Tears Ricochet.)
I know it's not her musical preference but for the covers album I think she should do some standards and classics. Because they're more mainstream and a larger audience would be receptive, I think. Since she doesn't have to write them, she can save her mental power for the kind of songs she wants to do on her next album.
Also included on the covers album should be the live performances of: If Only You Knew/Somewhere Over the Rainbow, You and I, and With You I'm Born Again as bonus tracks. I like her cover of Happy Birthday to Muhammad Ali too. I know she could re-sing them, but her voice was different at those times and it's special.
The reason I said to record covers in Jamaica is so that even if they don't come up with any new original material, the trip won't be wasted. They'll have the covers of songs that have already proven to be loved by a lot of people. They're classics for a reason.
They can even do two (or even three) covers albums. One with the songs she's already covered, one with the previously unrecorded standards/classics, and one with R&B classics. Parts I, II, and III. Is it expensive to make CD's? Maybe they can just sell them digitally?
Also, she should record a lot of positive songs that make the world feel better. These are bleak times. I like a lot of songs that Gloria Estefan recorded on her standards album. I think Mariah can do some of those same songs because they have different fan bases, different voices, and they're classics anyway. A lot of people have already covered them.
Embraceable You. What a Wonderful World. Smile (Though Your Heart is Breaking). Young at Heart. This Magic Moment (or something with the word magic in because Mariah is magic). Life is But a Dream. Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. As Time Goes By. Unforgettable. Unchained Melody. I've Told Ev'ry Little Star (by Linda Scott). Beauty School Dropout. Suspicious Minds by Elvis. We Are the Champions by Queen. (I've had this running list in my head for years.)
I always wanted Mariah to cover The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack because that song reminds me of when my only child was born. But Leona Lewis already covered it and her singing voice is too similar to Mariah's for Mariah to cover it too.
There's a song by Kari Jobe called Holy Spirit. I really love it. It was my wedding song with my second husband. (My second marriage ended amicably and that's still one of my favorite songs.) It's a duet with her husband. She could sing that one with Trey.
These are just my own personal ideas, of course. It's fun to dream.

Discography needs to be introduced to potential new fans (111,833)

I made a playlist for two of my friends who are in their 20's to introduce them to Mariah. They said they were surprised she had so many good songs because they had only heard her big hits.
One of them had a long road trip and listened to my whole playlist. She reported back that she liked all of the songs on it except for Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica). I can see why, but I still added it because I like it.
Her songs just need to be heard. The songs speak for themselves.

I love how Type: Dangerous sounds but I don't love the lyrics. It's not that I have a problem with the lyrics per se. I just don't think she should be blasting her exes on the radio at the age we're at. It rubs me the wrong way.
I would have no problem if those lyrics were a deep cut on the album. That's real. It's relatable. Tommy Mottola and Nick Cannon come off as super likable in interviews and they don't say blatantly negative things about her, ever.
Tommy reminds me of my first ex-husband. Italian and controlling. But I obviously did like him at times, otherwise I wouldn't have married him. Mariah probably feels the same way about Tommy. She's an artist and our feelings are valid. I don't think lyrically that was the best choice for the first big single after being gone for seven years.
I think that's why Infinity rubbed people the wrong way too. People like Nick and probably blamed her for the break up. I like Infinity a lot. I like how the music builds and then releases. Like when we're grieving something. It builds up and then releases only to build back up again. Until we finally do let it go for good.

I think Type Dangerous was a great way to launch the era, but as soon as it hit #95 on Billboard I think they should've pivoted to song #2 with Anderson. That way he could've performed with her on the VMA's. With an exciting music video it would've been a nice summer moment. Once you have all eyes on her you release the third song a week before the album comes out which would be IYF. And the forth and last single would've been HFIA in early November along with "it's time".

I've been thinking about it and I honestly don't care anymore if Mariah charts or doesn't chart again. I think I used to care more when Caution came out. If this is her last album, it's a good way to go out. If she releases another album, of course I'll buy it. I think she gave her best with performances and appearances, even if it didn't seem like it. I feel like something is going on with her, and even though I'd like to know, she doesn't owe us that. I just hope she does whatever she needs to do that's best for her. I just want her to take care of herself.

To be relaxed with a "magic brownie" means nothing and isn't a good idea. Real relaxation need no drugs. A coffee, a tea or a juice is a better and healthier thing. A glass of wine is also okay (not too often), but only if the person doesn't. take medecine. I don't want to see Mariah in Jamaica with weed. Free time, going to the nature is good to relax. Shopping isn't needed too.

I'm sorry about my outburst in my last post. I don't know what came over me. Even if everything had gone perfectly, I still don't think HFIA would have sold better than it did. I think those of us who are lifelong fans would have bought it even if she hadn't been on any TV shows. Everyone did everything right. They had her on all the right shows, her outfits were good, she looked beautiful, the album is solid. I don't know what you have to do to get a #1 hit these days. Do you guys really think Gamma is not happy with these numbers? I thought independent labels expected to sell less? Are the big labels doing better? I don't know what to think.

Thoughts (111,805)

Oof. Maybe I'm just in a negative mood right now. I try to see the bright side of things but right now I can only see the negative.
Every time we saw Mariah these past few months she looked like she was not fully present. She looks tired and stiff. Like she's suffering with a medical condition. If she is, and she was transparent about it, maybe people who have more compassion. (Not everyone, some people are just assholes no matter the circumstance.)
To me the best song on HFIA is HFIA. That's the one I would have chosen for the radio. (I know I said before I wanted an upbeat song but I hadn't heard HFIA yet.)
If Sugar Sweet was chosen because it is easier to sing, she could still sing that one for promotional performances. It's still a new song. She could say she can only sing HFIA when she's having a good voice day. We would all understand that.
Music videos need to be more not boring. Glamour shots are nice but for 3 minutes? Plus, Mariah doesn't look real in her music videos. It's like getting a Barbie on a stand and shooting her from different angles. We all know you're hot Mariah. Might as well make AI ones with a video game version of her. It would probably be more fun to watch.
There are good songs on HFIA but I don't think any performance or appearances are going to help right now. Not even videos if they're boring. She's not the best promotional vehicle right now. The people who were going to buy the album already did.
What I think she should do is go to Jamaica (or somewhere humid and tropical where the climate will help her sound her best) with her friends for a few months, eat some cosmic brownies, and record a bunch of cover songs. Maybe that will inspire her to write some new songs.
They can take a bunch of videos and use that footage to make videos. When she's relaxed.
I don't use drugs and usually I don't endorse them but Mariah in Jamaica in 2015 was the most relaxed and vocally free I've ever seen her.

The problem with every lamb - HFIA charts (111,798)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
It's not that we don't want hits, who doesn't? If you have the number one album or song people want to know why it's number one and they'll go give it a listen. If you don't get hits and accolades, it doesn't mean the art is trash.
Mariah has gotten every award you can get already. She's already one of the greats. Releasing her music independently, she probably gets more of the profits from the sales. She's already rich. Someday her kids will revive her discography (in an era when it's profitable again) and people will hear these songs again.
I'm not saying she can't get another number one but maybe what she has to do to get one isn't worth it. Maybe she has to give up a bigger slice of the pie. I don't know. People still come to her shows. She's still popular.

Well said. Even that latest interview produced by Spotify with Kelly Rowland she calls out that younger artists for pretending to not be about getting a hit. Mariah knows they are all in this to be popular and get hits. The lambs use her no hits as defense mechanism and all of a sudden paint her to be some kind of martyr that is only doing this for the art. Let me break it to you, she ain't in Asia right now for the art.

Didn't any of you listen to Mariah's latest album? She's looking for the dangerous type and likes them dangerous. She can easily reel in a sensible, quiet, loyal gentleman who wants to stay out of the limelight and devote himself to her, but he ain't her type. The whole song is her reeling off her terrible ex's, so doubt anything will change. Mariah's no fool and has been burned enough times that she knows what she's getting into. Hopefully she's just in it for companionship and a good time, however temporary they both know it to be.

Anderson .Paak. He is a serial cheater and he cheated on his ex wife. One of his sidechicks confirmed Mariah and him were together before they made it official and said he has cheated on Mariah several times.

I love this song but the part where she sings "a kiss where the sun never shines" caught me off guard because I thought that meant, like, kiss my butt. Or something. It didn't match with the rest of the song. So I'm choosing to see it as "even the parts you hide from the world are beautiful to me".
This song is kind of how I feel about the people I love. Including MC.

Y'all know I have been Mr. Negative for years on this board. I hate to give up that title but Mariah has really dialed it in this time. The album is wonderful, check my profile for the full review I did. I haven't played an MC album this much during the first week since Memoirs. In addition, she has run around everywhere promoting tirelessly. If the numbers disappoint, Gamma can't blame MC. She looks great, has been grinding and turned in a wonderful piece of art. And to see her in blazers and not mermaid gowns. She stopped traffic on Jennifer Hudson with the blazer and leather pants, hair and make up flawless. This is an amazing roll out and I am proud of MC. I would like to take this time to apologize for calling her a whistling Christmas Jessica Rabbit relic.

Here For It All lyrics (111,664)
by Lambi from USA
| |
|
|
I've tried to decipher it and now I've arrived at thinking some of these are Patricia's words to her, Mariah just flipped the POV and turned it into an ode for her babies so they have something to heal with when Mariah's time come. It's also maybe healing for Mariah hearing her mother's own words. I think this is why she sheds a tear every time it's played on interviews.
"Just whisper something softly to the wind you want Mariah to hear" could've been "Just whisper something softly to the wind you want Patricia to hear" I know this has something to do with Pat because it's a direct reference of "They Called The Wind Maria" [sic] which is where her mom got her name.
The next line, "Just stay with me a while and helped me laugh through the tears til I'm gone" is probably what Pat told Mariah during the last week of her life.
Red carpet in Cannes sent me to the film festival and it's literally just Lenny and Lee near her. Maybe they were comforting her while grieving or that line could totally just be something Mariah thought sounded catchy and well-fitting for the chorus.
Anyway, I really love this ballad. Mariah finally took us back. It feels classic.

I would agree if the Chick album was any good. But it's not. It sounds like someone goofing off and perfecting their Courtney Love imitation. I'm a fan of Courtney Love and Hole, but that style just doesn't work for Mariah. I'm all about Mariah expanding her musical horizons, but I'd say a jazz album or an acoustic style album in the vein of "Right to Dream" would work better.
Mariah has a relatively narrow window to promote "Here for It All" before she goes abroad for more Mimi anniversary shows. And then before you know it, she will be prepping for the Christmas shows in Vegas. An album of this caliber deserved to receive a robust promotional push.

My dream (111,640)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
Thought I'd share with you the dream I had last night about Mariah. She was in the UK doing some promo, and I went out of my way to go to where she was to see her and hopefully meet her. I waited and waited but didn't get to see her, and by then it was really late and, despite it being in London, there was no way for me to get home. So, I settled down outside the hotel she was staying at. At about 3am she came out to escape from everything and have a moment to herself. I let her have her ten minutes, then I tentatively called out to her, explained I wasn't a crazy stalker and that I couldn't get home, and what a big impact she had on my life. She was genuinely pleased and touched, and hugged me when I, through tears, told her how much her music had changed my life and thanked her for all she went through to keep people like me from being gifted with her songs. We hugged tightly for a long time, and then she went back inside. If I never meet Mariah in person, and I sadly doubt I ever will, I'll always have that moment in my dream. She loooed so beautiful.

Someone’s Ugly Daughter (111,639)

I actually really like the idea of Olivia Rodrigo covering Someone's Ugly Daughter and releasing it with the original artwork. I think she's too famous now to cover an entire album but I would love it.

New voice (111,615)

I was almost in tears that she was singing live on Jimmy Fallon tonight. Just because I thought maybe her voice was really shot like people were saying. It's different, but I like it. It's crazy how every three albums we get a new voice from her.
When I first heard Sugar Sweet, I was scared because it was so thin and whispery. But just like athletes, we can't expect singers to stay at their prime forever. Mariah's prime was supernatural and I don't think it'll ever be matched. Her new voice and tones work for me. I liked Sugar Sweet before, but I love it even more now in the context of the album.
I've been playing My Love and Here For It All on repeat all day. I can't get enough. My Love makes me long for that kind of love. Maybe in my next life.
Sidenote: the original My Love was actually my first ex-husband's song for me. A long time ago. We went to see Paul McCartney and he sang "our song" a few years before we got a divorce. I thought it was a sign that I was supposed to keep trying to make it work. But of course he was going to sing that song. Ha ha.
For a long time I couldn't listen to that song. But now I just think, maybe he did love me in his own possessive way. Sometimes he said the right things and I really wanted it to be true. I really wanted someone to love me.
Anyway, this new version gives it a new life for me. Thank you Mariah. It's better than I could have hoped.
