I've been quiet ... Sugar Sweet (110,362) by Lambi from USA "Not comeback material" is correct. Both singles could've just been album cuts by Mariah's standards. Some of the non-singles from Caution felt stronger and would've made better singles if released now. These last two songs feel like they're just "good enough" not to be scrapped, but they're definitely close. It makes me wonder if Mariah is still in touch with the great songwriters of today, or if she really is just out of creative juice. Or has the overall quality of songwriters declined as well? Her top 3 collaborators, Jermaine Dupri, Manuel Seal, and Johntá Austin, are nowhere to be found. I wonder what's going on. Are they having royalty issues? Or did Mariah simply want a clean slate with fresh writers? Whatever she's doing, it's not working. Beyoncé's albums may be mid, but she chooses the right singles. Texas Hold 'Em and Cuff It were undeniable bangers and carried their entire eras, not in album sales but at least the tours. She knows how to curate a group of talented songwriters. Mariah is simply missing the mark. Happy to be proven wrong, though. Perhaps the hurt from Pat's death produced something directly from above. I know that when Mariah clings to God during catastrophic times, the melodies that arise are out of this world. Maybe the Clark Sisters gospel record is that moment. Maybe the balladeer Mariah has actually returned, because "Portrait" from Caution was not it. Still somewhat hopeful for this era, but I believe your assessments are pretty accurate. Mariah even said Sugar Sweet is everyone's favorite, so that signals to me that this was it. I feel as tho Mariah and Gamma made a big gamble with all this promotion and putting out these two singles. They're not bad lead singles like You're Mine Eternal. It's just that they're not undeniable hits like Touch My Body, You Don't Know What To Do (could've been). Neither of these said hit on first listen to me. They're cute songs but not comeback material. And now they may be heading for a flop. Caution debuted at #5 and at the rate this train is going I don't even see that. They have three options. 1. Release something fire, enough of this muddled opaque blah music. But that will mean we have heard a quarter of the album. And I'll be pissed if that Barbara [sic] track makes the album. 2. Push the album back which will piss the hardcore fans off. 3. Release the album now and see how people feel about it and maybe do a re-release if it flops and this time release something fire that's undeniable to the ear. This roll out is horrible because it's almost as if they believed one of those songs was a hit and would carry interest all the way to 9/26. Did they not take the MIAMTEC singles and Caution singles and their chart performance into consideration? Oh and I'm curious to know how Type Dangerous and Sugar Sweet are doing overseas. Her hips look like they were enhanced as well, but it's Hollywood, and this is the norm. I would say Mariah never really overdid anything, except for the boobs. She knew Nick loved them, so she consistently made them bigger and flaunted them for revenge. Stella famously said, "She just got her boobs done," but she didn't blow up her lips like Christina or Carrie Underwood, and she didn't do anything extreme like a Michael Jackson nose job. She always kind of harmonized with her natural beauty. At most, she may have had a non-invasive injection on the sides of her button nose to make it more subtle. She also has perfectly crafted veneers and a tiny bit of Botox here and there, but she still very much has a face that's hers. I can't remember where I saw it, but it was revealed that Mariah follows an all-blue food diet to preserve her youth. Her beautician said she has an extensive beauty regimen that involves getting three facials every week. With her money, she has access to top-tier beauty products. She really takes beauty seriously. I remember that right after she gave birth, she said, "We gotta stay pretty," while getting ready to take pictures with her newborns. She has always been invested in beauty, and she reaps what she sows. Mariah deserves all the amazing results because she has always put in the effort. Even when she was really skinny she didn't have a super defined waist. They have lipo that makes your waist more defined. If she did that it was money well spent because clothes look better (in my opinion) when a woman has an hourglass shape. Also, around 45 jowls start appearing and they're not as easy to disappear as the lines on your forehead and between your eyebrows. She had them a few years ago and now she doesn't. So I went on a "Mariah acting" binge with her different roles and was reading some of the comments on how much people were really amazed and feeling her acting. Makes me think why couldn't she get a really good acting coach and really continue a serious acting career. If she ever decides on retiring from music, I'd love to see her in some serious roles. Now that you've shared this, I can confirm that there was really no bad blood. Morgan may have taken Mariah out of context, and she was likely speaking from a place of concern. As for Whitney, she was probably just showing off her vocal prowess and comparing herself to other singers in the industry, in general. In 2008, Whitney Houston went to perform for the president of Kazakhstan. Apparently, because of her vocal condition and her reputation in the industry at the time as an unreliable performer, she was unable to secure background singers for the gig. Her management company was also unable to obtain insurance for potential background singers for the gig. When Mariah Carey heard about this, she immediately bring it into action and offered to send three of her very best female background up singers to help Whitney. Whitney did not even have to ask. Mariah not only sent the ladies an across the world to help Whitney but she foot the bill for their insurance, travel, stay and rate. She sent Melanie, Maryanne and Teka. And y'all know vocalist don't play about sharing their background singers, haha. This era is what I would deem the authentic Mariah. It was before she became heavily manicured and manufactured, and before her career was as calculated for success as during Music Box and Daydream. It was before she was married where, in Mariah's words, she married him hoping he would "lighten up" but it made him more insecure and controlling than he was beforehand. It was also before the diva persona took up residence and when she was a sincere and capable singer who said to Lorraine Kelly in 1990 "I would never lip sync", right after the Milli Vanilli scandal. Now we're lucky if we get a line sung live. Of course nobody here wants her to be unhappy, even the OGs. But there was a spark she had in the beginning that dimmed over time. And really, can we honestly say she has been happy post-Tommy? People love to say post-1997 she was free and independent and happy, but that has never been the case. She's had a string of heartbreaks, career setbacks, and an image/creativity crisis in the decades that followed. She seemed momentarily happy and content with Nick and the arrival of the babies, but then that went south pretty quickly. So, all we can do is love her. That can be supporting everything she does, or taking the hard decision to call out things that she perhaps shouldn't be doing. When Mariah leaves us (I pray not for a long, long, long time), her career should be remembered for the incredible string of achievements she trail-blazed, the wonderful songs that captured a generation, a Christmas song that will endure forevermore, and being one of the greatest voices we have ever heard. Mariah has stated multiple times how controlled and unhappy she was in the first several years of her career. She threw herself into her work and convinced herself this was the price she had to pay for success. Other friends like Brat even wondered "How do you live like this?" It's a little weird to see all the OG's being nostalgic for this era. The OG's say she was a proper lady in this era - classy, dignified, pristine, graceful, and her true authentic self. They mourn her current state, which one is left to assume is the opposite of all those adjectives. I'm not here to invalidate anyone's opinion, but I can provide another perspective that Terna expressed - we both happen to be black. In our culture Mariah is viewed as bougie and fancy. Initially we were like "Who is this white girl singing down like that? Okay Mariah, Get down with your bad self. Do your thing, girl." I don't think one culture's perspective is more important than another's, but I think we should remember to try and view the whole. I do think Mariah would be disheartened that who she is now is causing so much sadness and heartache to the OG's. I accidentally came across his sentiment (the post I'm replying to) about Martyn, a lamb who died in the bombing at Ariana's concert. A post prior said, "I promise to try to show as much love toward the rest of you as I can and let that be his legacy in my life. I wish each and every one of you, whether we agree or disagree, whether we love the same way or do not, a long and happy life." He was clearly a troubled man, but the loss of a lamb and someone he actually knew in real life seemed to have waken him up and hit him really hard. "I'm going to pray tonight. I haven't done that since I was a child. And I'm not sure what that means. But a prayer I will say. And if there is an afterlife, and they can see what we are doing, then let this be the change in the board that is needed." This sentiment showed a lack of a prayer life. Lack of a prayer life equates to a lack of God in your life. But it brings me a sense of peace to know that, in his moment of pain, something in him reached for prayer. It's not about me, it's about him. I'm sorry that he won't ever listen to Mariah again and take comfort in her music. Even though Mariah completely changed her image to something sexier in '97, it was still pretty mild (like she said) and somewhat natural. I agree completely. I was even fine with her image during the E=MC² era. She was actually hot, and homegirl knew it. Her beauty during her 30s was effortless. It started feeling desperate when she wore lingerie on a noontime show and that ensemble on top of the piano on BET while singing "You're Mine" (on the verge of divorce). Even Patti was like, "Maybe we'll keep some for the imagination." Truthfully, I think Nick completely perverted and changed her. She was never the same. She even did a prank call on his radio show, talking about how "porn is good" and that her husband was not so far off from the guys there. Clearly, they experimented with it. There shouldn't have been any straps on the clavicles. Because it became straps + her ginormous necklace + crazy amount of hair + overly done boobs. It was way too much. Should've removed straps, add some sort of lace material to hover her boobs, put the hair completely on the back (or maybe just one side) then a more subtle necklace piece to completely accentuate and feature her neck and clavicle area. This would've been be a more polished, clean look. I noticed Mariah sports these extra "slutty" looks when she's in peak romance. I don't know that host, but she seemed starstruck, and honestly I can't blame her. I would have been too. Mariah didn't seem bothered by the comments about her breasts so I won't be bothered either. It's not like Britney Spears at 17 being asked about her breasts. Not the best thing to bring up in an interview but Mariah is a grown up and they're hard not to notice. (Honestly, it's the first thing I noticed.) Sidenote: it reminded me of the Mexican music icon Juan Gabriel. Her face looked really pretty and her body was on point. Her tan was on point. Her hair looked nice. The dress is not my favorite but I don't hate it either. Since it's more naked at the top I liked that it was longer. I love that silhouette on her. I don't love the animal print but that's just me. Apparently that's the trend again. I've been going to this eyebrow threader for over ten years and she's very good and I trust her. I waited in the waiting area and let my niece go back there by herself. I was so surprised when she came back out with super thin (Christina Aguilera in the Dirrty video) eyebrows. I told her the whole reason I took her there was so that she wouldn't over-pluck them like I did when I was her age. I told her if she keeps plucking them that thin, over time they won't grow back the same. She said, "Yours did." (But they didn't. I had to get the soft tap powder brows to fill in the sparse spots.) Anyway, she didn't care what I had to say and told me, "I think I can maintain the thin-brow life." So yeah. The early 90's slightly porno look is making a comeback. The hype statement says: "Here For It All is Mariah Carey's new forthcoming project with Gamma. This album marks the start of a bold new era for Mariah. For the record (109,976) by Lambi from USA If you have complete disagreements with anyone here, that's totally okay. This is just what happens in any hub. Fights break out all the time. If you happen to be emotional and make a rather deranged post, that's also totally fine, as long as you realize you made a mess and fix it afterward. Everyone forgets it and moves on. What's not okay is insinuating things like, "You don't belong here," "Thank goodness you'll be gone," or "You have no place in this fandom." This is the language of a bully. I don't care how correct you are or how deep your MC knowledge goes. Mariah always felt like an outsider, and people become fans of hers because they too have felt like outsiders. No one should be happy to see a lamb leave on a bitter, sad note. If you feel like you've been ganged up on and feel unwelcome, don't leave. Not everyone will respond to your every post, but the thumbs up button shows that we see you and that you're heard. Stick around. Mental state (109,974) by Lambi from USA Great take. Mariah's been forthcoming about diabetes. It makes sense because she probably sits around too much. But I see her making an effort to exercise on the reel, "I'm Mariah Carey. Of course this is my work out ensemble." Hopefully working out is part of her day to day routine now, avoiding insulin resistance completely. The months where she gives no effort on miming could've simply came from the nerve pain caused by the veneers. Maybe she's got a sensitive gum, and I can't tell you how painful that is. The doctors definitely put in work because her teeth are perfection. The stroke issue could also be a possibility. Jamie Foxx, Justin Bieber and Tori Kelly developed some sort of blood clot after taking a certain vaccine, allegedly. And we all know which side of the political aisle Mariah probably falls on, based on her friends, so it's probably best to keep that shush. All in all though, Mariah seems to be taking her health extremely seriously. She seems to be at a healthy weight, and is always put together flawlessly. I agree with Mimi L. She managed to reach another beauty peak. It's abnormal to look that stunningly youthful at 56. I mean that blonde bombshell look with her straightened on the T:D video is unbelievably striking. Mental state (109,971) by ADAM from USA I'm also highly curious what the album rollout interviews will look like. I think she has some sort of mental tick. She has not shared with the public, but I think she's had some sort of a stroke or physical laps that makes her unable to answer things in depth or recall easily. Anytime we have seen her when she answered something. It's all premeditated and not natural. I wish you just come clean and therefore you'd have the sympathy of the public and also some truth with your fan base instead of this plastic veneer and all these can terrible answers to questions that we don't care about. I think she's such an interesting figure and has so many stories that she could talk about But she is so guarded and not truthful. I really want the best for her as I feel like this is her last era of music. Hoping for the best - btw I'm obsessed with Sugar Sweet using AfroBeats it's such an ear worm of a jingle and will sound great blasting from anyone's speakers. (Thursday 24 July 2025; 02:05)
