Streaming, copies sales, radio play (88,710) by Gilles from Malta
The 21 century did change a lot the game, here in France my friends and I, we do not buy music anymore we are all on Spotify and the only physical copies we get are vinyls. I have been on Spotify now for many years. In my personal opinion I would say that CD sales are not relevant anymore. We can not compare sales like it was in the 90's (it is absurd). If labels accept to produce an artist to make an album, it means that she or he is relevant and makes money and profits. Artists are brands in a marketing world. Mariah for example is a marketing brand for make up, evening gowns, ready to wear, hair, plastic surgeries and other products or events (for example promoting Christmas, Valentine's Day or Saint Patrick's Day). Of course there is the talent but the talent needs to sell and influence the people for buying. Mariah won't be able to be in the game if she would not be all of this. Have a nice day everybody.

Re: Does anyone here even stream music? (88,703) (88,707) by Dove from United States
On Stan Twitter they pass around directions on how to get music to chart. My niece does it. The way I did it is: I used my regular phone to play it on Amazon Music continuously, my old phone to play it on iTunes continuously, then the 50 tabs (on two separate browsers, so it's actually 100) with YouTube. If you're trying to get one song to chart you have to add a 30 second interlude in-between and get the page to automatically refresh every 40 seconds.

I feel like buying the actual CD is the best way to support the artist and that's why I buy a bunch even though I don't know anybody other than my husband and myself who listen to actual CDs.

What is the best way to support an artist?

I'm not sure what profession you have, but mine doesn't work well with listening to music, so there goes nine hours of my busy day. Shrug, but I'm obsessed with other artists, and Caution didn't grab my interest enough to listen to more than a few times.

Young Mariah (88,705) by Dove from United States
I think a way to get younger people interested in Mariah is to have a TV show loosely based on her young life featuring her music as the soundtrack along with music that was popular at the time. She needs to get cool, good looking kids to play the characters. Then young people might be able to relate to her better. On a network station or Netflix.

Dang your post made me feel super un-hip. Maybe I will try streaming again. My husband spends a fortune on new albums that he only plays a few times and then forgets about them. Maybe my 15 year old son will enjoy having a music subscription but he's never asked for one. It's only $15 for a family plan. It just makes me sad that I might forget about certain albums if I don't own them.

I think I understand you now, Dove. When you say you don't have time to stream, you mean leaving the song playing on your device in some infinite loop to help increase her chart position debut. Yeah, I don't have time for that either. I've never even done it for a week, so you are a better lamb than I. Are young people really doing this though?

The resurgence of Mimi (88,702) by Bobby A from United States
I have said this before, but the only way MC will start selling music again in the millions is to release her first box set with rareties, previously unreleased tracks, remixes, and 12 new Timbaland or Nineteen85 and Tim and Bob tracks (Jon B.'s They Don't Know) or even work with bad boy Chris Brown. She needs something that will make the public purchase her music again. A box set released this year would be the perfect answer to her low music sales. Who doesn't want to hear Yours ft. JT or Reach For The Sky?

Re: Does anyone here even stream music? (88,695) (88,700) by Dove from United States
I don't have time to stream music the way young people do, with 50 tabs open on their computer playing the same song or album day and night to up the streams. I had a music subscription for about five months but I ended up always listening to albums I already owned so I ended my subscription. I like how CD's sound better than other formats so if I really like an album I buy it on CD. Places where I don't have a CD player I listen to the digital albums I buy - and those don't count towards streaming numbers. When Mariah releases a new album I do get iTunes and Amazon Music accounts to stream like a young person for about a week. I plan to do it for a month but I never do. My computer is new but in my mind it's going to crash like computers did back in the day when they had too many tabs open. Sometimes I have other things to do on the computer and don't want all those tabs open, then I get lazy to set it up again when I'm done.

Does anyone here even stream music? Part 2 (88,699) by jaker20 from US
Well then lambs' time to jump into streaming, Oh my gosh, now I know why Mariah is flopping. What you all waiting for? I introduced my dad to streaming last year and he never looked back. He is on it all the time, in the car, at home and everywhere. To someone who said it's not worth it, it is absolutely worth it. Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, for an average of $10 a month you get millions of songs at the palm of your hands. I still buy CD's and I'm thinking of getting into vinyl but I'm dirt poor right now. But downloads is over guys, it will be gone in a few years, mark my works. Streaming is essentially going to obliterate downloads since you can also download songs if you have streaming subscription.

If I was your neighbor I will set up your streaming service for you. You can do all that you mentioned x10. All these speculation of why Mariah isn't charting, and here I uncover the problem. If this reflects overall listening behavior of lambs then she really is in trouble. Her decline is so fast. This is probably why Mariah is still courting younger fans because she knows her future as an artist relies on them, because lambs can't stream lol. However great her music is, if no one's consuming it, its all for naught. Lambs, we need to get on with the times. Streaming is the future, you cannot stop it. You shoulda' known that it's bigger than you, No, no no, a no no. A bop.

Re: Does anyone here even stream music? (88,692) (88,695) by Matthew from USA
I'm a 90's Mariah fan and I stream music. I'm not understanding the concept of not having time to stream music. When I am on the subway or doing some programming at my desk, or at the gym, I pull out my headphones, I press the screen on my phone, and the music starts to play. I mean, I guess that is time consuming as opposed to the other methods of listening to music when you want, where you want. But no, I'm not getting it. Help. Is this some kind of inside joke? Also, in defense of middle-aged people, we do stream. Radio makes us feel old, and the cars no longer have CD players, they have baby seats, GPS and bluetooth speakers. So I'm just really confused right now and I'm imagining an old school lamb trying to configure a record player to their Toyota Camry. So yeah, I think I'm going to go back to my quiet corner now, because this thread is wild. Who has time to stream music is sort of like saying who has time to listen to music, no? Just tap the screen. Silly lambs.

Re: Does anyone here even stream music? (88,687) (88,694) by Edward from USA
I always knew that comment would come down to bite her ass because nobody stays popular forever and I knew her turn would come. Besides, at that point it was a rumor what Madonna had said, there was no video or recording of her stating anything like that. It's good that Mariah came to her senses and praised her at the Grammys following TEOM. Madonna and Mariah are iconic and in the same boat now, Madonna can't score a hit and Mariah, well, she's annihilating the R&B charts in Tangamandapio. At least I still like Mariah's music. I stopped listening to Madonna after she released the album Music when I was 7.

Exactly. I have Sirius XM in my vehicle, and a lil Spotify membership, I even watch Mimi's Vevo videos on YouTube, so they count, lol. But miss girl must know that she's not my life, not my world, I'm limitless, along with my choices in music. Mariah is and will always be one of my faves though. I always check for her and wish her the best and yes I buy her CDs for the collection and reflection, but I have limited time to stream anybody.

I've got a 5-changer cd deck on my receiver with surround sound throughout my home, and a cd player in my car. I've got a Sony speaker dock in my bathroom with an iPod loaded with music. I don't stream at all. A little old school but that's how I consume my Mariah music. Caution is a great album, still on repeat.

All of this Ribbon. I know how to stream, I just don't have the time to do it. I honestly just don't care about it. I buy the albums and singles I like. I've done my duty as a fan.

Yes. I haven't had an actual CD since MOAIA. Then everything was iTunes or "finding online", but for the last 2 years it's been nothing but Spotify. I don't even think my car has a cd player come to think of it.

I do it like Dove, I have all the albums from my favorite artists on cd. And I still love to buy cd's and to collect them. I have digital downloads, but don't stream with iTunes or Tindal or whatever. I do enjoy and appreciate music more if I have it on a physical copy. Anyway I also think the group who are streaming the most are teens and young twens, it's not Mariah's fan base like Ribbon already mentioned. We may have less time than the teens, but we have money to buy good music.
