Mariah disappoints with strange and truncated show

Possessing one of the most distinctive voices in the history of world pop, known for her high-pitched falsetto capable of hitting impressive notes, Mariah Carey was one of the most anticipated names at the second edition of The Town. The show took place this Saturday, the 13th, at 11:30 pm (Brasília time), on the Skyline stage at the Interlagos Racetrack in São Paulo.

Before Mariah's entrance, the screen displayed images of her performing "Thirsty", building anticipation. Mariah kicked off her performance with "Type Dangerous", a new track from her upcoming studio album, Here For It All (2025), due out on September 26th. However, what was seen on stage was a singer who was out of rhythm and seemingly uncomfortable, looking away and frequently referring to the teleprompter - even when talking about the new album.

Unlike many pop stars, Mariah doesn't rely on choreography: she leaves the dancing to her dancers and focuses solely on her voice. But, hampered by the low volume of the sound, even this strength was compromised. The long costume changes - which left the band trying, unsuccessfully, to entertain the audience - and the constant stage exits further chilled the audience, which gradually dispersed from Skyline.

After a lukewarm start, Mariah delivered two of her greatest hits, "Hero" and "Without You" (a Badfinger cover), but without the sparkle and emotion that have characterized her career. The first truly exciting moment came only with the "Obsessed" and "Touch My Body" double-take, when her high falsettos briefly evoked the vocal power that made her famous. Beyond that, the performance remained marked by distraction and a lack of connection.

To close, the singer chose a cover of Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is", maintaining the same distant tone. She even tried to say a few words in Portuguese, but it was too late: much of the audience had lost interest. A show that had everything to be memorable ended up becoming a cold and disappointing experience.
