MTV Video Vanguard Award (110,629)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
Mariah is reported to recieve the MTV Video Vanguard Award at this years MTV Video Music Awards. I am absolutly over the top happy about the news, but it is almost also the epitome of irony, that Mariah, who has never won an MTV Video Music Award, will receive the top notch award. It's actually ridiculous and almost an offence to Mariah. But maybe it is MTV's way of apologizing to Mariah for never have given her an award before.
Mariah gets respect in places she was ridiculed before, but after many years she gets recognition, as has have been the case many times before.
Mariah will may not get her "Believe"-moment, but to get this award, will be equivalent to the success of Cher, in that sense that this will give much more publicity for Mariah in years, it's almost a 18th number one hit-moment, when she surpassed Elvis, but also because this is a freaking nice award to get at 56, after 35 years in the business.

Songs Mariah should cover (110,611)

That is a picture from her Charmbracelet tour program, it sits on the bookshelf right next to me, many of my favorite pictures of Mariah in that program. Went to see her in concert in London at Wembley Arena in October 2003, I think about that trip ever so often.

I absolutely loved the photo taken during the Charmbracelet era, the one where she's holding the guitar over her head.

It’s tiiiime... to let the children know (110,570)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
I am bipolar myself, and used lithium for two years, but the side effects made me stop using it, it was not lack of energy or fatigue.
I have also a psychology degree, so I have first hand experience and academic merits.
There are a lot of different medication you can use as a bipolar, but the medications that affect your energy, libido, exuberance, and makes you a "living dead" is the antipsychotic drugs, like zyprexa (olanzapine) and others. Sometimes if you have had a severe relaps like a manic or depressed episode, you can get olanzapine as an injection, or you get another antipsychotic drug called zeplion as an injection. Those medications are administrated once a month, is a so called depot medication, they can have a devastating affect on your mood, happiness, energy, libido, hunger, and the joy of living. Those medication makes you completely flat emotionally, it can give you social anxiety and general anxiety, they keep you in a state where you are just alive, nothing cheers you up, and nothing brings you down, you are completely empty and dead inside, there's not an ounce of mojo what so ever. It's also very frustrating to be in that stat, because you have vivid memories about how you used to be happier, and that makes you even more sad.
I suspect Mariah is, or has, been on heavy medication since the death of her mother and sister, which have made her mojo disappear. Even after you have decreased the dosage or auto seponated the medication, it can take months for you to even have a happy thought occurring in your head, but you will get happy again. Using such medication is not a way to live, I have been there, and will never ever again be so dead inside because of medication again, then I will rather not take them.
I use orfiril which is a stabilizer that works perfectly for me with no side effects.
But be aware guys, after this period with our beloved Mariah be almost a living dead, she is too fatigued to even move around, expect a period from some time from now when she will be exuberant again, and maybe then she will go over the top at the other extreme. But then I think people in her life will keep her out of the public for a short period of time. Mariah was in a manic state at the infamous TRL moment. After her being so low as of recently, it might be expected for her to go up in the clouds as a counter effect in her brain, when chemistry in brain wants to maintain homeostasis again, the neurons releases neurotransmitters to balance the depressed state Mariah is in now. Then she will go overboard, but will retain balance a few weeks to a few months after that.
This is the life of a bipolar, I have written two books and a bunch of opinion articles about it Norwegian newspapers.
Just remember folks, the Mariah we all love is still there, she just have to flourish again.

How much do you know about bipolar Bill? There is no "cure", no 100% effective treatment. Even with treatment you will still experience lows and highs. Behind the highs and lows is the sheer effort to function and that effort can be exhausting.
If you look at Mariah's presentation during an interview, I'd guess that she might be using a medication called lithium. Look it up and see the side effects. Sometimes the treatment is like finding a spider in your bathroom, so you set your house on fire to get rid of it.
Now imagine you are MC and all that comes with it.

Stop the nonsense (110,265)

Hello? Is this not a Mariah forum where we're free to talk about all things Mariah, whether it be good or bad? Mariah put herself in the public domain, so unfortunately she is subject to praise and criticism. I class myself as an honest person, I'm a Mariah fan and will critique how I want to, whether that be good or bad.

No, Mariah will never quit the diva act, no, the Karadashians have not made her unsure about her age, no, a different roll out would not have made the last two single successful, no, I said a no no, like it Frenche, no, in Spanish, no. People here on this board are completely bashing Mariah and make up outrageous reasons for what no.
You are criticizing Mariah while you are all living in a Mariah fan forum creating a whole universe of excuses of why her voice is lost, her eyes are dead, who should have collaborated, how Mariah should have taken care of her voice, what affect people surrounding Mariah has, the list can go on and on.
Just imagine being Mariah living in this celebrity world and what micro cosmos that will lead to. But here we are, bashing Mariah for being out of touch, too into herself and her yes people, but we are still making a universe ourselves that really doesn't exist outside the MCArchives?
Hello? If this board can get so delusional, imagine being Mariah the last 35 years.

Capital's Summer Ball (109,353)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
I just watched the Summer Ball, and I actually liked it a lot. Almost everything is prerecorded, but it seems like it's her current voice, it's much deeper, she can't belt, but a few high notes here and there. And funny thing is, she actually sang a few notes and frases live, and those live notes, are actually pretty good. I wish she could have the confidence to actually sing, she has to break the barrier soon.
She doesn't care if it looks like she is lip synching or not, but she does it a tad bit more believable than in China. She doesn't move her muscles in her face, but at this point I'm affraid it has with botox to do, it's quite strange how emotionless her face has become.
She moves a bit more freely, and I actually think her outfit looked modern, almost a bit of a image change from the gowns and the big hair. She was not tacky, it fitted her well, she seemed young, but her own age at the same time, and not desperate to be sexy.
I'm quite pleased with the performance.

A moderate hit already (109,283)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |

|
I just [checked] the Wikipedia page for Type Dangerous, and it's already on a few charts, [including] #9 on the UK Singles Sales Chart (OCC), [these] are very good figures for a Mariah Carey single in a long time. I hope this is just the beginning.

Endurance (109,228)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
Mariah has [managed] to make a song that I constantly [am] singing in my head, it's infectious. I'm pleased that the song hasn't got a climax with belting, [because] we know that Mariah can't do that anymore, and it would have been impossible for her to [replicate] it live. It seems that she is getting success now with a song that isn't about her voice, but because the song is a real bop. This song is on heavy rotation in my house at the moment, [although] it hasn't cracked the top 100 on iTunes her in Norway yet, but that is no surprise, Norway might be the country where she has had the least success in the world throughout her career.
But what I can't seem to understand, is why couldn't she sing this song live at the BET Awards? It's an easy song for her to sing, it stays almost within one octave of her voice. What is also frustrating, is that she doesn't do a thing to make it seem like she's singing, what is this?
Anywho, so nice to se her getting some success again and widespread attention on social media, I have almost [forgotten] what that feels like as a fan, besides the [annual] Christmas stick. I'm proud to be a fan of Mariah again.

New music (109,039)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
I'm so excited for new music, the wait has been long. I like the snippets, but I don't really feel it as a single, feel it could be played at a lounge, it feels more like background music to create a vibe, so my hopes for another hit is not great. But what I have read about people's music habits, is that a lot of streaming use is as background music, so maybe there's hope.

Mariah's voice (108,871)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
I haven't written on this board lately, been some months. I have been in the top 20 as of messages throughout the last few years. Maybe I wrote a couple of messages at the start of the years, but after that, months.
I am as most of you, devestated about the current condition of our girl, Mariah. She can't sing, she can't move, she can't show an emotion. It's clearly to almost all uf us, Mariah is in a bad state, and I think it's mentally and emotionally. Deep down, we all know that if Mariah gets in a happy place again, her voice will also follow, and we can have a few great moments again.
The thing is, I have more agility and range in my voice than Mariah at the moment, and I'm a 41 years old man who has never tried singing as a career.
I wish Mariah well, and all the help she needs. Let's stay positive now, folks? Love you, Mariah

My favorite live performance of Make it Happen, which is also my favorite live performance overall, I have watched it almost every day the past 25 years, it gives me chills every time, is from "Fantasy: Live at Madison Square Garden". It's my go to song for getting through life.

Of all her live performances of "Make It Happen", VH1 Divas Live 1998 is my favorite. I will never get tired of watching it. The hair, the outfit, the raspy voice, the choir, the band, the stage, and the audience's engagement through dancing are all perfection.
How about you, what's your "Make It Happen" live performance throughout the years?

What's left out in the conversation (108,059)

I agree. A friend of mine, who is a surgeon, said many years ago that her breast augmentation might have been the reason for her vocal decline between Daydream and Butterfly as well.

I think the intubation for her previous breast augmentation surgery may have contributed to Mariah's vocal concerns. The endotracheal tube goes through the trachea and in between the vocal cords. In majority of people, the effect is usually minimal, but in singers the damage can be more marked. Add to this the fact that Mariah already had vocal cord nodules and had been singing at vocally demanding ranges for several years already before this surgery.

Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas To All (107,754)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway

I know at least one other Norwegian fan on this message board, hope there are more, but just wanted to say that "Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas To All" will be broadcasted on the national broadcaster her in Norway, Nrk, tomorrow, Friday, at 08.20pm local time. I think this is actually the first concert they broadcast since her Butterfly tour. They are announcing her as the first lady of Christmas, so that is nice, enjoy my fellow Norwegian lambs.

Yes, that is very strange. New rule is that an old song has to chart 25 or higher on the Hot 100 to be included on the chart, so how Last Christmas can chart at 38, I have no idea.

I believe you are right, Mimi. Based upon the Billboard Hot 100 chart a year ago, AIW made it annual debut at #17. It is no where to be found on this week's chart dated November 16, 2024. It will be interesting if it doesn't make it to number one this year or who her competition will be battling her for the number one spot. Jason Kelce's Maybe It's Christmas is currently sitting at number #1 on iTunes and MC is number #3.

Christmas shows (107,634)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
I agree with the people that feels she seems stiff, and I'm too surprised she uses prerecorded vocals so much, I thought her voice was in god condition, and the notes she actually sings live sounds good. It seems like she is affraid to go in higher register live these days. The constant looking at the monitors I really don't know why, she didn't do this until two years ago. As I have said before, I think she used Ozempic a year ago, and I came with a controversial theory that that medicine made her depressed, as is a common side effect to Ozempic. What Ozempic also can do, is causing temporarily dementia, I know it's far fetched, but maybe Mariah has a hard time remembering her own lyrics. Or it's just that her singing is so cut and paste these days it is to remember where she lip synchs and not.

Billboard's 25 greatest pop stars of the 21st century (107,559)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
| |
|
|
Billboard has counted down the 25 greatest pop stars of the 21st century over the last few months, and the top 5 will be revealed the next weeks. Mariah is not on the list yet, and she was not mentioned in their article about honorable mentions wich consisted of the 25 artists that didn't make the list. It's impossible to think that she isn't mentioned in that article if she is not considered as one of the 25 greatest, so, I think she will be in the top 5.
Billboard accompanies each reveal with a lenghty essay, and she might just be 5th in that list, so be sure to check out Billboard next week and the next five weeks.

Joachim I am so happy you are saved. We are all one big family here regardless if we post every day or lurk or post once in a while. It's a community unlike many with so many great people here. I am here to say that you are one special person to me and many here. Who cares about a few pounds is right-as long as you are still here and fighting and knowing that we all go through our own battles at different times. It's nice to have a family of supportive friends where we feel safe to confide things. Mariah's music alone is therapeutic to most of us here. I am keeping you in my prayers and know regardless of anyone's religion or lack of - that you have a purpose and a higher power has much in store for you.
