Superbowl Mariah (92,727)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
Maybe from 1997-2008 would have been a great time for Mariah, as she was much more willing to get out of her comfort zone then, she was confident on stage, was much more mobile and far less awkward as a performer. The audience were also more receptive of her then, online life was less brutal, and the audience didn't expect too much visually. If Adele does it and pulls it off with minimal choreography then Mariah has a chance.

Now that's an interesting idea. Mariah doesn't have the type of catalogue that would do well on that show. But maybe with the right combination of artists, the halftime show doesn't need to have a bunch of uptempo songs. I mean, why not? They always stage a variation of the same damn thing every year anyway.

Superbowl Halftime Show (92,725)

The reality is that Mariah can't do the show jusy by herself, what I always imagined is she and Celine do it together. I think it will be amazing to see them both on that stage plus it won't hurt if they have a Whitney hologram at the end. Ballads but in a grandiose and classy way. Make it happen Jay Z.

Mariah would slay Super Bowl. 1. She is a household name (she brought 25+ millions viewers to NYE). 2. She has the catalogue. 3. If they let Justin Timberlake and Maroon 5 do it, then Mariah deserves a chance as well since theirs was literally the worst. 4. Mariah has done halftimes before and she killed it. 5. Aside from Michael Jackson, nobody comes close to her superstar status of all the people who have done it. 6. Imagine all the guests she could have.

She did. 2006. She performed Don't Forget About Us in a cheerleader uniform. Superbowl performances are usually mimed just like all other large scale outdoor venues.

Best era for Superbowl (92,721)
by Tyler from USA
| |

Mimi recently told Andy Cohen the Halftime Show would be too stressful, which I agree. The way her nerves get to her after the tree lighting and New Years it would be a deer in headlights moment. I then start to think which previous era should she had headline. I came to the conclusion that TEOM was a missed opportunity. At that point she had the catalog to do it and her stage presence was at its peak. With the dancing and liveliness of the set, Adventures of Mimi was her most entertaining concert. Butterfly and E=M2 were close runner ups. While daydream was her vocal peak, I think the show would of been boring as hell. Thoughts?

She doesn't have to dance, she can run around the stage like she did at Live8.

I remember in 9th grade I used to do my makeup exactly like the first picture with the gold eyeshadow all the way up to my eyebrows. (Not for school but for parties.) I wanted to be like MC so bad.

Superbowl halftime show (92,718)
by Dove from United States

I watched for Shakira because I'm a fan but I actually thought the whole thing was good. Nobody can accuse Jennifer of not trying. She takes what she has and makes the most of it.
I don't think it's necessary for Mariah to perform at the Superbowl. She's not really that type of artist and I don't think she wants to be. Her strengths lie more in songwriting, singing, and in making studio albums. Fans and future fans would like having visual content but she could just record her Vegas shows and use the best performances. And dig in the vault for hidden treasures from the past.
What I really want from her right now is new albums, a few concert movies (a newer songs one and one with great performances from the past). And one or two more number ones please.

It should have been Mariah and JLo (92,717)

Imagined Mariah and JLo performed for the halftime show. Mariah did all the ballads and vocals, and JLo did all the dancing, fireworks whatever. Two powerful divas in their own league. No hate.

That would actually be boring for a huge scale show and audience like the Superbowl. Mimi doesn't dance and much of her music just isn't suited for that event, IMO.

Bill, indeed Mariah has made terrible sartorial choices but I don't remember seeing her poledancing or leading some sort of dancer "orgy". The Stella era was her worst in regard to outfits and general image but that FNL performance yesterday has shocked me, especially because in general people find it normal these days for female entertainers to behave in that way. Not a great example. Youngsters learn that acting explicitly slutty (I can not call this sexy or sensual) outshines proper talent and will make you a rich superstar. Mariah is no stranger to skimpy outfits but I have never found her vulgar in behavior.

Come on now, glass houses and all that. Mariah's had lots of questionable outfits and performances in her time. Thankfully she seems back on track now, but look no further than the nightmare era for all the "receipts".

Of course she can do it. It just requires proper preparation, a good stylist and decent vocal rest. Imagine a set-up as with that live rendition of "With You" on a grander scale. That performance was so classy. I found the J-Lo and Shakira show tacky as hell. They looked and acted as street hookers.

If Mariah ever does a Superbowl halftime performance she should do a medley of her greatest hits with her just singing the first verse and chorus of each song except whatever song she closes the set with, on that song she should cut lose and go for it. She should do the same for the Brighton Pride performance.

I've often dreamed of a country cover of Mariah's Don't Forget About Us. Dolly could do an excellent acoustic cover. Mimi could maybe cover Jolene. Ha, a Dueling Divas project. Hate U is pretty, but I didn't love it, but I bet Dolly could slay it.

Superbowl Halftime show (92,709)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

After two very disappointing years (thanks Justin and Maroon 5), this year was a nice surprise. It was amazing how well J.Lo and Shakira represented not only their culture but older women in the industry in general. So many young female artists are out there yet you couldn't really spot anyone who can move and command a stage like these two can. Light on the explosives and the usual Superbowl gimmicky spectacle, more focus was directed to the dancing routines, which were really, really tight even at breakneck speed. J.Lo's daughter singing kind of reminds me that it probably won't be long before we see Monroe doing the same onstage. Well done.

At Dollywood, in Dolly's former tour bus that you can go inside and tour you will find in her bedroom area, a bottle of Mariah's "M by Mariah Carey". It made me smile when I saw it.

I love Dolly too. I've always wished Mariah and Dolly would do something together. They both have albums titled Rainbow and butterflies are important to both. Also each broke away from a very influential male relationship that was tied to the music business.

90's sound (92,704)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|

Totally, I agree that her next album and singles should sound like her mid-90's to be specific. It's her 30th and 50th anniversary as an artist and as a person. Daydream is 25 this year. So, it's only fair to release an album like Daydream 4.0. Lyrics, sound, musicality and artistry in her current voice through an uptempo (Fantasy-like plus remix later), powerful love song ballad (OSD-like plus a duet or remix later), mid-tempo (ABMB-like), and well picked remake (OA-like) as the first four singles will be surreal if it happens.

So I just read that for the first time Roc Nation is co-producing the Super Bowl halftime show. I wonder does this open the door for a possible MC slot in the coming years, especially if she landed a commercial hit album?
