About BFF from United States:

Concert in Saudi Arabia (101,543) by BFF from United States
What are you talking about? "Vision of Love" sounds just as good as it did in 1990. There's nothing wrong with Mariah's voice. She sounds amazing. Yas queen.

I remember that. I love Joni Mitchell, and I actually really like a lot of the songs on "Misses".

Re: Just another Side Effects (101,394) (101,395) by BFF from United States
What about "Triumphlop"? Or Mariah's best music video of all-time "I Don't"?

I think Mariah should release a compilation album called "Greatest Flops" just for us fans.

Re: The Pitchfork lists (101,384) (101,386) by BFF from United States
It's not bitterness as much as it is skepticism. Pitchfork didn't even bother to review a Mariah Carey album until 2014 when "Me I Am Mariah" was released. The publication didn't pay much attention to any genre other than indie rock during the 1990s and 2000s and has always had an elitist Brooklyn hipster vibe. So my question is "Why now?" after years of ignoring Mariah and other artists deemed "not cool enough".

The Pitchfork lists (101,381) by BFF from United States
I'm glad to see Mariah getting some love, but, to me, it feels a little forced at this point. I mean, how many years did most of us on here spend loving Mariah when it wasn't cool? How many of us went out on 9/11 to buy the "Glitter" album because we knew there would be some gems on there? And do we really need Johnny come lately hipsters to tell us how great of an album "Butterfly" is?

And as much as I love "Fantasy" with ODB and "Always Be My Baby", Mariah has far better songs in her catalogue. I honestly think the ODB collaboration is a bit overrated and that songs like "Breakdown", "Crybaby", and the "My All" So So Def Remix are better examples of Mariah's genius integration of hip-hop into her style.

Re: Global Citizen (101,323) (101,343) by BFF from United States
I'm going to try and be as positive as possible about the performance. The dress looked nice. The Metallica joke was funny. Her pre-recorded tracks sounded good.

Re: Global Citizen (101,293) (101,300) by BFF from United States
Songs she should not perform:
1. Shake it Off
2. Touch My Body
3. Obsessed
4. I Know What You Want

Songs I'd like her to perform:
1. Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise)
2. Honey
3. Make it Happen
4. Vision of Love

Re: Another taste of honey (101,266) (101,276) by BFF from United States
Yeah, how do you call a 6-minute interview a documentary? I don't think fans found out much about the video that we didn't already know.

Re: My All (101,258) (101,263) by BFF from United States
Agreed. I remember listening to most of those #1 songs from 1998 over and over and over. I know R. Kelly is an unsavory character, but I quite liked that Celine/R. Kelly duet. My grandma really liked Celine Dion, so thinking of that song reminds me of her. "The Boy Is Mine" was also a huge favorite. And that song "Too Close" was super catchy but incredibly inappropriate for me to be listening to when I was 10 lol.

Re: If Butterfly single was released (101,240) (101,244) by BFF from United States
I think it could have had a chance at #1 if they timed the commercial release correctly. It was getting quite a bit of airplay for a song without an official release. The Elton John single was #1 mostly based on single sales. "Butterfly" may have only gone to #2, but I still think it should have been released. It is one of her best ballads, and "Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise)" is excellent and adds a whole different dimension to the song.

Re: Butterfly 25 (101,200) (101,205) by BFF from United States
What's interesting is that Billboard is reporting it as "eight new tracks from the Butterfly sessions", which makes it sound like we are getting songs from the vault.
(Thursday 15 September 2022; 16:47)
Re: Butterfly 25 (101,200) (101,204) by BFF from United States
I was hoping for "vault" recordings rather than re-recordings of songs from the 1997 track listing with other artists. Surely, she has "demo" versions of songs like "Make You Happy", "Last Chance", "Head Over Heels", et cetera. But, hey, I guess we should be grateful for whatever we receive

Re: I wish for Butterfly: unplugged for Butterfly 25 (101,173) (101,175) by BFF from United States
Agreed. I appreciate Mariah making the effort, but the re-recording of "Close My Eyes" for "The Rarities" was not that great. If that rumored track listing for a "Butterfly" re-release is real, I would be very happy.

Re: Toni Braxton (101,148) (101,174) by BFF from United States
I love Toni's later albums as well. She's definitely maintained a commitment to classy adult-oriented R&B. I really thought the "Pulse" album was slept on - "If I Have to Wait" and "Why Don't You Love Me" are really great ballads. Ditto for songs like "Please" and "I Wanna be Your Baby" on "Libra". "The Heat" also has some fun album and lesser known songs that didn't get the attention they deserve - that "Spanish Guitar" (H2Q Club Mix) is one of my favorites to have on when I'm running.

Re: The Ballads compilation (101,143) (101,145) by BFF from United States
Seal's first two records are two of my absolute favorites. I love the first album because it combines so many different styles of music - electronic, alternative, blues. There's a live version of "Whirlpool" on the Killer EP from 1991 that is absolutely brilliant. And as much as I hate Mariah's being snubbed at the 1996 Grammys, I think the Grammys were justified in giving Record of the Year to Seal over Mariah/Boyz II Men. I've seen him twice in concert, and both times he was absolutely fantastic.

Re: The Ballads compilation (101,136) (101,142) by BFF from United States
Toni's house remixes with David Morales and Frankie Knuckles are definitely worth a listen. The remixes of "Unbreak My Heart", "Spanish Guitar", "I Don't Want to", and "You're Makin' Me High" are fantastic.

I'm also a big fan of Seal generally and many of the remixes of his 90s and early 00s stuff.
(Monday 5 September 2022; 13:53)
Re: The Ballads compilation (101,131) (101,132) by BFF from United States
Oh yes. The Remixes could have been so much better. Disc 2 in particular really messed up by including "Sweetheart", "Crybaby", "Breakdown", and "Loverboy (remix)". None of those tracks are remixes, including "Loverboy" which was just extra rappers inserted into the original version. Also a complete mystery why that version was the first track on the "Glitter" album.

And I would have loved to see more deep cuts on "The Ballads". All of the songs you mentioned would have been great. I think my ideal track listing (if they were sticking with singles releases) would have been:

1. Vision of Love
2. Love Takes Time
3. Can't Let Go
4. I'll Be There
5. Hero
6. Without You
7. Anytime You Need A Friend
8. Never Forget You
9. Endless Love (with Luther Vandross)
10. One Sweet Day (with Boyz II Men)
11. Forever
12. Butterfly
13. My All
14. I Still Believe
15. Whenever You Call (with Brian McKnight)
16. When You Believe (with Whitney Houston)
17. Can't Take That Away
18. Thank God I Found You (original)
19. Never Too Far

I think Toni Braxton should have also released a compilation like this. I could listen to her ballads all day. Probably my second favorite "diva" after MC.

The Ballads compilation (101,130) by BFF from United States
I always enjoy listening to this compilation but think the track listing could have been improved a bit. I would have loved to see "Never Forget You", "Forever", "Butterfly", "Whenever You Call (with Brian McKnight)","Can't Take that Away", "Thank God I Found You (original)" and "Never Too Far" included. Some of the songs included didn't really fit the theme IMO. "The Roof", "Dreamlover", "Always Be My Baby", and "TGIFY (Remix)" are all great but aren't really "ballads". And I have no idea why "How Much" and "Reflections" were on there instead of better songs from their respective albums.

Re: Butterfly 25 (101,085) (101,095) by BFF from United States
I've always wanted to hear Mariah's original versions of "Last Chance", "Don't Go Looking for Love", "After", "Make You Happy", and "Head Over Heel,," so I hope this information is legit!

Re: Article: Mariah Carey wants to trademark "Queen of Christmas" (100,986) (101,016) by BFF from United States
Very tacky but unsurprising that she's doing this. Like others have already said, she is looking for non-music revenue streams because her voice is shot and any new music she records will be virtually unlistenable or heavily reliant on pro-tools. It fits into the pattern of endorsement/business deals like "Mariah's Cookies" (if you look this up, the reviews for it are absolutely terrible), the "Mariah Menu" at McDonalds, the perfume, Hostel World, et cetera. There was a glimmer of hope for her music career in 2013 when "#Beautiful" came out and maybe again with "Caution" in 2018, but these just seem to be minor successes in a pattern of steady decline that really started with "E=MC2". The Vegas residencies were an opportunity for her to develop some needed discipline around performing, but that obviously came to an abrupt end.

Re: Trey Lorenz (100,974) (100,976) by BFF from United States
I love his debut album! I think it's a travesty that he did not become more popular on the strength of that album.

Re: Is something going on? (100,936) (100,938) by BFF from United States
My honest opinion is that she needs to give up alcohol completely, especially because she has a diagnosis of bipolar II disorder. Giving up alcohol would greatly help with the severity of her psychiatric diagnosis and would also considerably cut the amount of residual sugar she is consuming. Alcohol use is generally discouraged for people with a BP diagnosis, and it surely cannot help to mix it with whatever medication she is taking.

Re: Is something going on? (100,917) (100,927) by BFF from United States
My guess is that it's related to a combination of things: poor diet, lack of exercise, lack of quality sleep or irregular sleep schedule, and alcohol consumption. Mariah has a tendency to cycle in and out of crash dieting as well, so I'm sure that has a negative impact on her metabolism.

Re: MC hurry up (100,890) (100,892) by BFF from United States
Oh, yes. Diane needs to catch up to artists who are "pioneering" the "innovative" practice of appropriating ideas from other song rather than coming up with their own song ideas and *gasp* actually composing on piano or other live instruments! How dare Diane upset empress Beyonce's army of sheep? True innovators outsource their songwriting to committees of 24 people.

Re: MC hurry up (100,869) (100,882) by BFF from United States
And now we have the BeyHive big mad because Diane Warren asked a simple question: "How do you have 24 writers on one song?" This question pretty much summarizes my opinion of most of Beyonce's musical output. If you have to borrow this much from other people, why not just release an album of cover songs?
