Lol. I meant the white background was also vibrant compared with her albums before that were more sepia toned. The cover is photoshopped up to within an inch of its life though. If you google "Rainbow Lachappelle outtakes" you can see the original shots. She still looks great but it seems like her body was stretched lol.

Okay so a couple of points here. I actually really like the Rainbow album cover art. I love bright, vibrant colours and this cover really "pops". As for the Loverboy video, it's one of my favourites too. Clearly this LaChappell character's work appeals to me lol. Happy birthday Mariah.

It was my most disliked Mariah track until Boy came along and rocketed to the top of the charts. Then it’s been helped by recent gems like Why You Mad and Crapfinity and Infamous. So it’s still in the top ten somewhere lol. For me it upset the more serious/reflective mood of the second half of the album and probably would have been better received by me had it been on the A side (showing my age with that comment lol).

Great post. Rainbow is underrated I think mainly for being the second verse to Butterfly. Tough act to follow really. It's an album I don't usually turn to but when I'm there, I'm loving it. Every track on that album is a winner (except Did I Do That of course), and as you've said, the remixes were fantastic. I was at first nervous after hearing that she stepped away from David Morales for Heartbreaker's club mixes, but Junior Vasquez did a great job. The accompanying tour was also great. I was there in London's Wembly Arena. Not as great as the London stop of the Daydream tour but then, what was?

Nick was a marriage, with children. Damizza was an ill advised fling. I think MC respects Nick's permanent position in her life, and that of their children, to not write a low rent diss song in the style of Thirsty about the father of her children. During the writing of MIAM, Mariah and Nick were married, and the album notes state how much she treasures her family. People over analysed everything in those songs once the divorce was public, but that album was in the works for years don't forget. Tom Fords, @-ing MC on Insta were all things Damizza was doing after they split, posting pictures of them and so on. Not sure if you've read Damizza's book, but he has a chapter about Mariah ("Don't Forget About Us") which is really interesting.

Maybe, but why she would do it from a low key YouTube channel and not her official outlets is odd, unless there's some contractual issue to her doing it. Hope they keep them coming, as everything that's posted is brilliant, and then a real slam dunk like the O Holy Night outtakes appear. Love it.

There's a website called whosampled.com. Type in MC and it will bring up the songs she used a sample for (credited and not), as well as who sampled her material.

Usually when an artist buys the rights to their material it will include everything. Released and unreleased and any demo or working copies.

If the leaks are indeed from Mariah's team, I wish they would put them on her main official channels so that more people can hear them. Or better yet, release the entire vault digitally. I'd pay whatever the asking price is for that. No doubt.

Me, Myself & Mariah (81,281)

What a great article. I love it when Mariah talks about music and songwriting like she did here. Interesting to see her potentially taking a new approach to her new album. This has me very excited and hopeful for a positive, necessary change. Emerge from the cocoon.

Re: Don't Explain (Billie Holiday cover) (81,251) (81,252)

Lullaby of Birdland was down on the original track listing for MIAM. It pains me that there is potentially a studio recording of this somewhere, and not just what we heard on the Elusive tour. I agree, Don't Explain was sung really well and this is exactly the type of style Mariah should be singing in now, rather than lipping notes she can no longer hit and yelling out "EH" every so often. I've always said a jazz album would really suit her, but she could put a modern edge to it. Like, I don't know, jazz classics with a modern sample behind them, or her re-arranging the song or re-writing the lyrics. An even new material written in that timeless style. She did all that with The Wind back in 1991, and that's probably now the only song she can sing from the Emotions album unaided.

I can read and hear fine thanks. TGIFY was sung (for want of a better word) in the half octave she can sing in live. It's the one track of 18 she got through without playback or lip syncing during her residency, and it lasted a little over a minute. So sorry, you've not proven anything other than the point I was making.

Lol. They are literally all from a controlled environment, with playback, lip syncing, dubbing, and Mary Ann picking up the slack.

When did she display her range? Please send me the video and if it's not a performance with lip syncing, playback, dubbing, and Mary Ann picking up the slack I'll stand corrected. It's time we all addressed the elephant in the room.

The tell for me was when she did carpool karaoke. Everyone else goes for it, lets loose and has fun. MC just sat there statuesque and mumbled a few lines in the half octave she has left.

Even I could sing a chorus of a song reasonably well, and I don't have a God given talent like Mariah. There's that crazy theory that the real Mariah died in 1996 and was replaced by a look-a-like that couldn't sing half as well. I'm starting to believe it lol.
