About Stacey from USA:
Been a fan since 1993. Favorite albums include Daydream, TEOM, and Music Box. I love a good discussion, but won't stand for hateful comments because we disagree. I am too old to deal with drama and so are you. Keep it real with me and we'll have some fun. Peace.

I completely agree with your comments. Whatever happened to MC's videos having some sort of light storyline? Obsessed was awesome, poking fun at Eminem not wanting to let go of the past. Where are those types of videos? As I watched the video, I felt I was taken back to the MOAIA videos like HATE-U and IBLYLT with MC strutting around in next to nothing. To me, this kind of thing cheapens a great song. It perpetuates the public's attitude that MC is shallow and not the deep, amazing singer/songwriter we know. Sure, when you look so good, you want to show it off. But, does she have to show so much off? She's looked so beautiful during Idol's run. Even the white outfit she wore this week, which showed her belly (something I'm not usually a fan of), looked great because the "girls" were covered. I don't get it. Some fans will like the video, and some of us won't. Again, I'm critical because I know she can produce a better video. Go back and look at her past videos. You'll see my point. Webmaster, some fans will never get it, no matter how much you explain it to them. Trust me, I tried last week. Thanks for sticking up for all opinions to be shared.

I love the hashtag too, lol. It's so Mariah. Stephen, I couldn't agree more with your last post. This new era reminds me so much of TEOM when promotion and the music were on point. ILT set the stage to get MC back on radio, then WBT blew radio away, lol. I see Beautiful doing the same thing. I agree, Idol has done some good in the sense it's kept MC's name in the news. But, she needs to resign the show before they throw her under the bus and fire her for the show's low ratings. Idol producers will do anything to save face. Anyway, I know I've been most critical of Mariah. It's not that I love her music less, aren't dedicated to her, etc. It's because I know she is capable of putting out great music (ala #Beautiful). This song just proves she knows how to stay relevant without looking desperate. Younger fans who love Miguel will check this song out along with us oldie-moldies who've been around for years. That kind of cross-generational reach can only lead to success. She did it with TEOM and I think she's about to do it again. Well done, Mariah. Well done.

#Beautiful / Idol (37,736)

Honestly, the hashtag doesn't bother me if I get to hear that amazing voice, haha. The beat is infectious. I couldn't help but start to tap my foot. Two complaints and they are small is I wish there was more Mariah. I wish there was more play between MC and Miguel during each verse instead of one singer each verse. I wish there was some kind of breakdown (ala Honey) before the final chorus, you know some sort of bridge. But, if this song is any indication of what the rest of the album will be like, I'll be quite content. That voice sounds amazing. Idol producers have screwed Mariah all season long. She'd better act fast and quit before producers throw her under the bus for Idol's low ratings.

Hallelujah, Edward. Someone gets it. Thank you, Deedre. Both your posts were spot on. My original post wasn't to start an argument. On the contrary. I was simply trying to remind folks to give all opinions a chance to be heard. No one was dogging a duet they never heard. That's silly. Period. Antone, my post "back it up a bit" was a shout out to a whole bunch of posts on the subject. If it was solely directed to you, I would have put your name at the top of the subject line. As it stands, you were mentioned halfway through my post because the bottom part was directed toward you. Peace.

People always seem to miss the point. What's new here? Folks weren't happy about a duet, but for me I was willing to give it a chance. I was glad it wasn't a duet with a rapper, lol. At least this time it's a singer. Haven't had that in a while, so it may be good. The teaser looks amazing. Look, I've been an MC fan for nearly 20 years. I was an MC fan long before many of you youngsters joined and I'll be around long after you leave. That's dedication, lol. Peace.

Back it up a bit (37,651)
by Stacey from USA

No one has heard the song, so how can we say we like it or not, lol? You can't. I certainly won't give my thoughts untill I hear the song. My recent posts did not defend such a silly notion. (BTW, I love the teaser.) When the song does come out and we all have a chance to hear it, all fans should be free to express their thoughts without fear of retribution. Period. Antone, no fan loves all the songs she's ever released. I've been a fan of hers for 20 years. The majority of songs I've loved. Some songs I wondered what the heck was she thinking, lol. But, I'm still here. No one yet has said anything about the song because no one here has heard it. Once the song drops, all opinions should be welcomed. That's all I'm saying. And if someone doesn't like the song once heard, they are not any less of a fan. Peace.

Thank you for illustrating the point I am trying to make. You are automatically telling someone to leave if they don't like something MC does. All opinions should be welcomed without fear of attack. If someone listens to the song and doesn't care for it, they should have the right to say why without being told to "find another artist". Geesh. Anyway, I've said my peace. Moving forward to May 6th.

I agree 100%. We all have different thoughts. Some are going to like the song, some are not. It's the dissenting opinions that tend to get slammed for no reason. That's what annoys me to the core. I didn't like Triumphant and man did some folks here come after me hard. I didn't expect that because while I expressed my dissatisfaction for the song, I did so in a respectful manner to those who did like the song. If someone comes here hating on Beautiful and MC for no reason, then yeah we should call them out without stooping to their level. Know what I mean? Anyway, I can't wait for new music. RibbonB, well said about Idol.

Just my 2 cents (37,628)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
With new MC material coming in just over a week, I'd like to add a few thoughts. When new MC music is released, everyone is going to have different opinions on the song. Some may like the song immediately, some fans may take a few listens before the song grows on them, and some fans may not like it all together. The point is let's respect everyone's thoughts and stop the name calling, put downs, etc. You all know what I mean, lol. *smiles* If you disagree with something someone said about the song, by all means let them know why and have a discussion on about it. When Triumphant came out, the fans who didn't like it got hammered with names, had their dedication to MC questioned, etc. It was so pointless. Let's just have a good time, and yes, if someone does trash the song or MC with no reason, call them out. Just thought I'd throw these thoughts out there. Peace.

Just as excited (37,626)

Look, those of us who don't really care for a duet are just as excited for new Mariah material. I'm well aware of her past successful duets. I was hoping it would be simply Mariah on this song showcasing that fabulous voice. I guess if there is a bright spot this time around it's the fact she's doing a song with another singer not a rapper, lol.

No duets (37,609)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I agree with everyone who's saying no duets. It needs to be all about that voice this time. I remember TEOM. The whole era was entitled "the return of the voice". And then she delivered an album packed with songs showcasing that voice. The lead single It's Like That had Fatman Scoop as a guest, but his part wasn't until the end of the song and fit in well there. Then she wowed us with WBT and the comeback was complete. That's what needs to happen this time. If she wants to duet, do it on a remix. That formula has been successful in the past too.

I don't recall mentioning Almost Home. Not sure what that has to do with the discussion between you and I. Anyway, the fact remains AI is a dying show. The ratings prove it. If the ratings were higher, I guarantee that 34 million vote total would be much higher. And yes, I knew that was the vote total from last week. It would be interesting to find out what the vote total was during the highest rated weeks of AI. Now, that would be a number to know. You can spin the numbers in your favor all you want, but the fact remains, this season of Idol is the lowest rated ever. Up until last season, Idol was in the top 5 of shows based on Nielsen season ratings of shows. Last season the show was 25. This season it has dropped to 30. So, if I were MC, I would drop the show after this season. People are done with it. The ratings numbers prove that. Peace.

In years past, you might be right. AI ratings were doing great, but has slowly seen a decline since the nucleus of Randy, Paula, and Simon was broken up. Twitter followers may be up, but the number that really matters is how many people are watching the show. That number has hit an all-time low for the show. Not good to see Mariah apart of that number, especially when producers thought her name and stature would be enough to lift the show. MC better hurry if she wants to use the show to promote her album. In fact, honestly I'd be pushing the first single right now and letting each week allow her to promote the album in some way. Anyway, I doubt she returns next season (f there is one). I wouldn't.

New album / AI (37,565)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I'm with Deedre. AI is almost over. Now is the time to launch the album and use the show as a promotional tool. She'd better hurry or else she's missing a huge opportunity. As far as her judging style goes, people will like it and some will not. MC was great during the audition shows, but in the live shows, with some contestants she's really offered good advice and then others she's been all over the place. Honestly, I used to watch AI during the live shows untill the finale. I haven't even watched this year, even with MC on the show. AI is a dying breed and it's sad to see MC a part of it this year, because she's so much better than the show could ever be. I agree with K too. I think she was awesome as a mentor and would be great in Jimmy's spot or sharing the mentoring role with him too.

No artist will ever touch Mariah's numbers, especially the 200 million records sold. With the way the industry has changed, I think her title as the best selling female artist is quite secure. Mariah will always make music, but we may not get an album every two years. We were very spoiled for many years. Plus, she has accomplished so much, it's almost like now she is making music for herself and her fans without worrying if that song will achieve that #1 status. Know what I mean? Further, if Mariah wants to work on her family and take time off, that is ok too. She is human, not the robot singing factory she endured in the 90s (i.e. sing, sing). Remember that? So just chill folks and enjoy the music.

Mariah pregnancy, etc (37,517)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
Deciding to get pregnant is a serious issue. It's not stupid either. Mariah knows what is best for her and her family. I've carried one kid at a time (have two kids) and one child was tough enough. To carry twins? I can't imagine the toll that took on her body. I can see where Nick is coming from too. It would be a strange situation seeing someone else carry your child. But, surrogacy is sometimes a couple's only option. Look at Guiliana (from E! News) and Bill Rancic who after G's breast cancer saw surrogacy as a way to have a child of their own. Either way, I hope they make the best decision for their family. If another child is in their future, that is great. If not, then that's ok too.

MC's press coverage / new album (37,488)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I was checking out the other day, reading of the magazines while waiting in line. I came across a ton of negative articles about Nicki Minaj, but nothing about MC. MC usually doesn't get positive press coverage ever from the media. It's a nice change of pace to see her winning the PR battle. She's taking this job seriously, showing up on time, dressing to perfection, and offering good critiques. Even ousted Jolley gave another good critique of Mariah's judging style while slamming Nicki. On a side note, does anyone know if MC is going to perform Almost Home or her lead single from a new album on AI. I feel like we only have about 8-9 weeks left of the show. She better get on it if she's going to use AI to promote her album. I feel like if she doesn't, she's missing a golden opportunity.

Mariah's girls, lol / Nikki (37,473)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
Maybe it's me, but I don't need to see them all the time. It's nice to see her wear clothes that cover them up, but still doesn't take away from her sex appeal. Know what I mean? I think a lot times her dress takes away from her amazing talent. People, for right or wrong, focus on the lack of coverage and not the music. That frustrates me, because MC's music is that good. Anyway, don't want to go to deep down the dress discussion, so I'll leave it at that. Yeah Nikki, Mariah has her own way of speaking volumes without saying a word. She lets her music do the talking. Obsessed comes to mind. She is the queen of plausable denability. We all know the song is about Eminem, but MC can easily say it's all just in the name of fun. She is the queen at that game. No one messes with MC, lol. Nicki Minaj better watch out. She does not know who she's messing with. Ugh, just so annoying with her comments. Just another benefit to having a DVR. I can fast-forward past her comments.

Mariah's dress (37,470)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
I agree. Mariah's black/gold dress was stunning. I know many here defend MC's dress options to show the girls off, defending her right to dress how she wants, etc. But c'mon, even you guys have to admit covering up the "girls" sends a better message. Mariah's dress choices during the finalists AI shows has been perfection. Her clothes aren't distracting folks from her role as a judge. Notice the media isn't focusing on them either, because she isn't choosing revealing clothing. I know, I know the media will find something to criticize, but I don't hear them attacking her clothing lately. I hope she chooses something stunning if and when she performs live on the show, so people can focus on the music and not revealing clothes, which tend to distract from the music.

Nikki / American Idol (37,466)
by Stacey from USA
| |

I agree. I watched last night's AI episode too and my only thought was Nicki is endlessly irritating. I had DVRd the recording and after 1-2 singers, I found myself constantly fast forwarding past NM's comments. The rest of the judges try to offer thoughtful criticism trying to help the contestants and then Minaj who must be living in her own reality. She's just nuts. For whatever the reason she continues to act the way she does, I could care less. She's just freaking annoying. Period.

Stop eating nuts (37,461)
by Stacey from USA
| |
|
|
Some of you are nuts. The lady has sold over 200 million records with 18 #1 hits and countless Top 10 hits, etc. Why not tout that record? No one will ever come close again to selling that many records. No one. She has earned it. I'm with Deedre on this one. Sure I would love to see her beat the Beatles record, but for me it's all about good music. I want the sequel to "return of the voice" this time around. And I agree with Nikki too. The last time people counted out Mariah, she blasted right back with WBT. The record was so hot, radio stations had to play it. The same goes with TMB. That line from the BW interview, "well if they counted me out, they'll just have to count me back in" is the best line ever. If the new album contains that "it" song, radio will have to play it. Even Obsessed off MOAIA went to #6 because it was catchy and people liked the video. And many here know I'm not afraid to criticize Mariah, lol. Even if MC doesn't reach the same type of commercial success she had in the 1990s, her place is still cemented in time. Numbers don't lie. They don't change because some other singer is the "in" thing right now. Rihanna may have her #1 hits, but she'll never, ever come close to selling 200 million records. So, just chill and enjoy the music. And even if her newest stuff isn't your thing, like sometimes for me, go back and listen to her early stuff. Relax and stop eating so many nuts.

Haha, I was nervous too. I thought, oh the media is going to have a field day with this if MC shows up late. She was over an hour late to the concert I attended. So, I'm glad she is taking this seriously and to hear she talked with Curtis Finch for a time afterwards, waiting to speak with him after the show wrapped, shows how much she really cares about these contestants. Mariah is a diva with her diva ways, lol, but it's nice to see this side of her, the side that was present when she was trying to break into the record business. She understands what these contestants are going through and hasn't forgotten that point in her life. She's a diva, but this AI experience is showing there is a person behind that diva-ness. Know what I mean? Being late for a live show when you're getting paid that much is unacceptable. Pay me that much money and I'll be on time, lol.
