About Stacey from USA:
Been a fan since 1993. Favorite albums include Daydream, TEOM, and Music Box. I love a good discussion, but won't stand for hateful comments because we disagree. I am too old to deal with drama and so are you. Keep it real with me and we'll have some fun. Peace.

Mariah on Idol (37,391)

I haven't read the article in question. I've only watched Idol a few times up to this point. I mainly wait until the finalists are chosen before I start to watch. It's always been that way for me. However, I've watched a bit more with Mariah being on the show. I have to say she's done a pretty good job. She really tries to critique their voice. I mean, nobody knows better about vocals than Mariah, lol. And I like the fact they put her last. When she was the first judge to comment, sometimes her style got overshadowed my Nicki. Honestly, NM bugs the heck out of me with her "how you doing" Joey-ish question to the contestants. Idol is so yesterday. Ratings are dropping. I would be really surprised if they bring the show back for a 13th season. X-Factor is tanking too. Time will tell.

The video is nice, what you'd expect from a movie song? What I don't get is why the song doesn't immediately play right when the credits start or soon after. Beauty & The Beast has an instrumental introduction before playing the song with Celine Dion. Same goes with Disney's Aladdin. Strange. And the song not being included on the soundtrack? Now that's odd. Is the song going to be included on Mariah's new album? Celine Dion did that with My Heart Will Go On, it was on the soundtrack and her album.

I don't think how many likes someone has on Facebook is something to be concerned about. Doesn't diminish Mariah's place in history. No one will ever come close to 200 million records sold. Plus, not everyone does Facebook, Twitter, etc. I don't have a Twitter account, yet I post here and support MC by buying her music.

Edward/TEOM (37,341)

Great music and great promotion helped TEOM establish itself as the top selling album of 2005. After CB, many people were wondering if MC still had "it" in her to produce great music. I'm not knocking CB as I think it was crucial step in Mariah's comeback. I myself wondered if MC was heading toward a more whisper/softer sound and away from the middle of the road vocal that had proven so successful. I remember I first heard clips of all the songs and I about fell off my chair. I couldn't contain my excitement. The album sounded so much like Daydream, a hugely popular album (ironically released 10 years earlier). Mariah is at her best when she appeals to wider fanbase, meaning she gave some the ballads (Mine Again, IWYK, Circles, WBT, Joyride), others the hip-hop songs (TTF, SS, O&O, ILT), to those who didn't care for the hip-hop stuff, she gave us songs with more R&B/Pop mixes (SIO, GYN), etc. That album much like Daydream gave every person something to like. She is at her best when she doesn't focus on one paticular genre or type of vocals. That's why I think TEOM was so successful. I love that album tons.

That's funny. Great minds think alike. Most people here know I don't care for many of her rap collabos, especially when the song is remixed for a edgier move toward hip-hop. So I especially love when MC gives fans like myself a no rap version that sounds hot R&B but doesn't turn me off with all the rapping. Let the fans of the rappers have that version and me get just no rap version. My All/Stay Awhile and ABMB are probably my two favorite slow R&B remixes. Make It Last is also a great one too.

On the subject of old school, I sure do love this remix. I also love it even better when she gives us fans the no-rap version. It's one of my favorites. Stephen, I hear you. It's a nice effort, perfect for a Disney movie. I will say it didn't grab me on first listen. I had to give the song a chance. The bridge still sounds disjointed. Ultimately for me, I'm just glad to hear that voice. I hope that's the kind of voice she brings to the new album mixed with some hot beats.

Some were jumping the gun calling the song a flop long before other factors like the movie's release and video premiere happened. If the song tanks after those two things, then yeah, maybe you can call it one. I hardly think that's going to happen. Doing a lot of promotion once the video and movie drop would help things a ton. Plus, she should definitely sing the song live on AI. Once people hear that song as the ending credits roll, the song should rise on the charts. All of this is good news for her upcoming album. Now this is a buzz single type song to get people ready for her album drop.

Almost Home is a fresh new sound for Mariah. This is a great buzz single for her upcoming album. Doing a song for a popular Disney movie is never a bad thing, especially when you have a album coming out soon. Her low full voice vocal was something I haven't heard in a long time. I wasn't sure how I liked it until she hit the first chorus and then it seemed to fit. I can see the comparisons to Rhianna, but folks, when MC hits those notes in the second chorus and final takes, Rhi-Rhi needs to sit down, because no one compares to MC. Her voice sounds amazing and I hope she brings that kind of flare and confidence to her new album. It sounds fresh and current. I see this as a very radio friendly mid-tempo Dreamlover-like song. Very nice, MC. Defintely going to download this one.

No, I get where you are coming from. That's part of the problem I had with her belting voice off CB. I know some love that CD, but for me, the belting parts sounded screechy. She either whispered or belted and it didn't work for me. I miss that middle of the road vocal. Songs off TEOM and E=MC2 had a fuller belting voice (aka Stay The Night, Shake It Off, etc), but then songs like Mine Again were purposely cracked, so maybe it's the style she's trying to create rather than what her voice status is. Know what I mean?

Wow. I can't wait to hear the full song. I am loving that voice. I know some love the whisper/softer tracks, but for me, this is the sound I fell in love with nearly 20 years ago. It's that full voice vocal that sets her apart from everyone else.

Sometimes MC gets it so right and somedays she gets it oh so wrong. Oy, the outfit out and about in NYC is one of those misses. Yet, she hits the mark pretty good on AI so far. I just can't wait for warmer weather myself. The sun came out today for the first time in weeks and it felt so good.

Deedre / Nicki vs. Mariah (37,154)
by Stacey from USA

Awww, you beat me to the "Nick" joke, lol. It's easier to type Nikki vs. Nicki with the "c". I totaly get your last post. I'm glad they blew up during the audition process and not during the lives shows. Who knows, it may happen there too, lol. Heaven knows I've got my fair share of situations I wish I could have handled differently. Randy Jackson and MC are long time friends. There is that established relationship there. RJ is an experienced judge on AI. Keith Urban is a legend amongst country loyalists. Then there is Minaj. What does she add to the group? And in that question lies why she does what she does. She feels inferior, jealous. Ever been around that person in your own personal lives that has to fight for attention? Doesn't that get annoying? When you're talking, they talk louder to be heard. Minaj is doing this job as a career advancement while MC/Randy/Urban have earned their stripes already and have nothing to prove. They genuinely care about the contestants and their futures. So Minaj constantly feels the need to put herself in the spotlight no matter the consequences.

Mariah on Idol / Deedre (37,143)

Normally I've always skipped the audtion shows. I never cared about the show untill the finalists were chosen. This time around I tuned in to see MC as a judge and of course to check out the drama between Nicki and Mariah. I thought MC did great. However, the audition shows are so scripted, it's hard to read each judge. Know what I mean? I think we'll get a good sense of how the panel works as a whole when it's live. You can't hide much then. Deedre, I totally agree with all your posts about MC's judging style. I can't wait for the live shows. I think that's when she'll really shine. Though, I hope she controlls the "diva" stuff, lol. You all know what I mean? That's said with love.

I know you weren't referring to me. I should have made that clearer in my post. My point was a bunch of people including myself have talked about Nicki vs. Mariah. It wasn't fair to single out Carla when so many others are talking about it too. It's the big story from Idol and until that changes (i.e. Nicki wises up and stops the digs) it will continue to be the main story. Know what I mean?

Others are talking about Nicki vs. Mariah too, including myself. For me, it's so in my face, how can I not talk about it. Nicki is all over MC with every little dig each time MC speaks. It gets really really annoying after awhile. She is clearly jealous of something. If you are confident in yourself, you have no need to personally attack others. MC is getting positive press making Nicki more jealous. She's trying to hard to win folks over and be funny. Her whole demeanor is falling flat. Folks will talk about what they want. Doesn't bother me. I just ignore what I don't care to talk about. Jenny, you're welcome. Folks here know I don't sugar coat constructive criticism of MC. They also know I give praise where praise is rightly deserved and with AI, MC is doing a great job. I think you'll quite enjoy her judging style when AI hits SA.

When I read the phrase tired of trying to please the teenager audience, I couldn't be more happier to read that. The eternally 12 thing was growing old. Now granted I'm 35 and never want to let age get the better of me. But, there are things I do now that I didn't do at 12 and vice versa. Know what I mean? I can't wait for a more mature sound. Doesn't mean she has to go soft or sugary, but something that meets halfway. She's grown up a lot in that she's married with a family now. That changes your perspective. Like TJ, I hope this really comes true. She said similar things before MOAIA, and although some here love that album, it was a big let down for me. Somehow with the release of the album coinciding with Idol, I think Mariah is going to bring it (ala TEOM). The return of the voice returns once again.

Deedre, I totally agree with you about MC/Minaj feud. I think there is some real bad blood there. Quite frankly, Minaj is jealous. She fights too hard to be the center of attention. Mariah doesn't need to fight for attention. Her accomplishments do that for her and I think Minaj is jealous of that. Why else do you constantly dig another artist. I saw that clip of Minaj joking about MC's range. MC's reactions are too natural for it to be fake. All I know, Minaj doesn't know who she's messing with. MC has such a great way of getting back at her critics. Minaj needs to talk to Eminem. MC makes a video, writes a song calling him obsessed, even dressing up like him. Too funny.

I like the title. I can't wait to hear the song. Jenny, I think you'll like MC's judging style. Most of the American press has been positive toward MC. TV Guide's praise I quoted and another article posted by Hollywood.com (on this website) titled "10 reasons why MC is the best qualified judge ever". I was a little unsure MC should do Idol. I honestly thought it was beneath her. However, I wanted to give the show a fair chance and reserve full judgement untill the show aired. I found myself excited to hear her critique. She has a way of critiquing the contestants minus the Simon-like bite. Know what I mean I can tell she genuinely cares about the contestants. It's not about her. It's not about showing up the other judges (*coughs* Minaj). It's about helping another artist achieve their dreams, something MC is very passionate about.

I was only able to catch the last 45 mins of the season premiere. I thought Mariah did a great job. TV Guide gave her the best review too. Very positive. As TV Guide put it, MC "skillfully treads the line between being friendly and respectful to the contestants, while at the same time offering them constructive feedback about their talents or lack thereof". I totally agree. You could totally tell MC was genuinely interested in the contestants. I'm not sure if the feud is a total sham. There were a few times where Minaj threw some jabs and Mariah and you could see MC look at her like "what the crap is your problem?" We'll see how the season plays out. You can only fake a feud for so long, lol.

Thank you Stephen for getting where I'm coming from. When you marry someone, that changes the dynamic of the relationship in the history books, right or wrong. Get married and divorced and you'll see what I mean, lol. Desiree, Rene was more of Celine's manager, not so much an exec. Plus, he wasn't such a control freak, lol. It's an interesting discussion. MC has sure had to fight for her due credit. No denying that. I think doing Idol is her way of saying I'm done fighting. I'm going to enjoy life and screw all the naysayers. Her numbers don't lie. And in the end, this discussion is all gravy. I get to enjoy her music and for that, I'm grateful. My favorite album is Daydream. Least favorite: CB/MOAIA. Although, even if an album doesn't grab me as a whole, there are always a handful of songs I love. CB gave me Irresistible. MOAIA gave me Obsessed and Angels Cry.

Nah, I get your point. My intent was never to contradict your points or Stephen's thoughts about MC/TM relationship. I just mentioned the marriage as something on the side to consider (not the main dish) as to why MC gets linked stronger to TM than other artists to their execs. If people don't want to consider it, that's their choice, I guess. There is no denying MC has had to fight harder for credit she deserves, a point I mentioned. Rene and Celine are happy in their marriage. (Going on 20 years in 2014, I believe.) That's boring news to the media, lol. Lee, TM's post-MC failures speak volumns, but so do MC's post-TM success too. TEOM comes to mind among other sucessful movies and business ventures.

You are totally right. MC is never given credit for anything, lol. It blows my mind she still has to mention she writes all her songs. I'm wasn't arguing against that or really involved in that discussion. Some here have asked why MC is linked to TM more than other artists to their mentors. So, I just added the marriage aspect. It defintely changes the dynamic of the relationship when you marry that person. Anyway, Happy New Year to you.
