I've just had to do a long drive and I listened to Proctors Theatre Concert and it got me thinking. Whilst I know it won't change Mariah's current vocals I was thinking she needs an overhaul of backing singers, a sound more reminiscent of the [Price Sisters]. Singers that have more soul and depth to warm up her songs on stage. Trey isn't as good as he used to be so he's not gonna help Mariah sound any better. Even on her next album she should use vocalists that can add texture to her songs, use the background singers like they used too and get them more involved in the over all sound. I think this would enhance the quality of the album and give Mariah's vocals a boost. It worked on Music Box why not give it another go, good quality tracks reflective of her early career, filled with gospel and soulful sounds. She has nothing to loose at this point. Lay the Diva MC to bed and awaken Mariah again.

Mariah's lipping is so obvious now, and people are going in on her in the YouTube comments. She really needs to step back from touring and work with a vocal coach. Like Terna said, it's going to take serious discipline to get her voice back in shape. She should stop touring until Christmas.
It kind of feels like we're watching a different version of what happened with Whitney. Mariah fought so hard to stay true to herself, but now she's almost trapped in this diva persona. She used to talk about wanting the street cred that Mary J. Blige had, she started being raw and unapologetic. But now? It's like she's just withdrawn into this shell.
It's true that Tanaka seemed to have been a source of joy and normalcy in her life.

Mariah doesn't need no man (108,188)
by Jamie from UK
| |
|
|
I think she needs to reevaluate her situation, while she isn't broke she obviously isn't getting as much income as before. She's created this whole diva persona and whilst it worked once I don't feel it benefits her anymore. She should reduce expenditures and just focus on herself and kids. She doesn't need to live such an extravagant lifestyle especially with reports that it costs 30 thousand plus just for her to leave the house. I think the whole diva thing is part of the problem, she's lost who she really is. She seemed more together after she had her initial breakdown than she does now. Now it feels like she's lost her personality too.

Mariah doesn't need no man (108,181)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
I don't think she was ever in love with Tommy. I think she was in love with Luis and she was in love with Nick. The rest are companionships. Her issue right now is what her issue has been since birth. Insecurity. It is hard being in the world eye when you are considered one of the best vocalists who have ever lived and are having problems with your voice. It is hard when you come out and meet your idols Aretha, Patti, Olivia Newton John and Diana. Now you are their age and the girls that are popular are on the charts and winning awards are Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo. MC hates touring but needs the money to keep the umbrella holder and her three homes. Tanaka may have been a comfort but he's not the reason she's in pieces. MCs real problem is that she is under pressure about vocal ability, aging and finances.

Frustrated lamb (108,159)
by Jamie from UK
| |

Problem with these stars are that all those around them are on the payroll and don't care as long as they are getting paid. I saw one clip of I'll Be There with Trey, his face was a picture trying to look unaffected by Mariah's lackluster vocals. You'd think he would be able to say something as they go so far back. But I guess he also doesn't want to upset the cash flow.

Frustrated lamb (108,151)
by Brandon from USA
| |
|
|
The most recent clips from the 2025 shows are cringeworthy. In one clip, she was "singing" ILT and there was literally no expression on her face, no energy or anything. In another clip she's singing Fantasy and looks lost as though she's been told to follow the dancer around the stage. She's looking around like she has no idea what's going on in that moment. The comments on the videos were in shambles. MC can only keep this up for so long until mainstream media starts asking questions and she's forced to address it or stop performing until she gets herself together. Does no one on her team ever watch her performances back and see that something is wrong? This era is so frustrating as a lamb.

Of all her live performances of "Make It Happen", VH1 Divas Live 1998 is my favorite. I will never get tired of watching it. The hair, the outfit, the raspy voice, the choir, the band, the stage, and the audience's engagement through dancing are all perfection.
How about you, what's your "Make It Happen" live performance throughout the years?

Barbra and Mariah (108,136)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Streisand has recorded twice as many albums and toured far more extensively than Mariah. Yet, even when she completely stopped touring, she never neglected her core fanbase. Since the 2000s, she hasn't gone more than a few years without releasing an album, and she's 83, for heaven's sake. From 1963 to 1967, and again in 1971, she was releasing two albums a year. That's dedication.
It's not that Mariah's lost her artistry, her heart is just not in it anymore. She reminds me of someone who was once deeply passionate about their career but eventually became content with stepping away. And that's fine, but at least be honest about it. Instead, she's spent the last six years dangling a fat carrot in front of us.
Where is the freaking music? And please, spare me the tired "she's a mother now" excuse.

Barbra Streisand and Ariana collaboration (108,128)
by Bobby A from United States

I am trying to imagine how a MC and Walter A. ballad would sound in 2025. So let's think back to their early ballads like Love Takes Time, So Blessed, Hero, Just To Hold You Once Again. Those songs would suit her current voice well. Here is my analysis of the four songs.
1. MC sings in a reserved way. 2. There are not a lot of riffs and runs. 3. She doesn't do any heavy and prolonged belting. 4. Walter A.'s chords and production would make music critics say MC is returning to her original form that gave her hits after hits. Now if they did get back together for some songs on MC16, it would make 7 years of waiting for MC16 well worth it.

It is one possible way that could lead to MC being played on Pop radio again besides a Christmas song. I am here for more pop collaborations especially with Walter A. What if a truce happened and we had no idea that Walter A. and MC are on good terms in 2025.

The Grammys (108,109)
by Jamie from UK

I agree. I loved her in the early days but her music has just gone weird. Her hype is more famous than her actual content. And the fact she has 35 Grammys when she's only had 7 solo number one songs on Billboard baffles me. All her albums have gone to number one on Billboard but if you look at majority of the singles from those albums since 2011 hardly any of them have scrapped into the top 30 let alone the top 20. I definitely smell a rat with Beyoncé and Jay Z. And that video clip of her "surprise" at winning best album, I'm not buying it, it looked completely fake and staged.

I have been trying to figure out for years why she is treated like royalty. Why does the Beehive go crazy when she releases new music or announces a tour? Also, I think there have been a lot of ghost writers on her albums who have given her songwriter credits. Take away all of the ghost writers Beyonce couldn't write one hit song.

A bit harsh (108,092)
by Jamie from UK
| |

Zack I appreciate your message and also your passion. But no one has been negative if anything we have shown our love for Mariah. We all too have passion hence why we are upset at what's is now. It doesn't come from a place of hate, it comes from a place inside us that only wants the best for her. There comes a time in life when you have to accept things have changed both in yourself and from those around you. It's not negative it's just reality unfortunately. And yes we are so blessed to have lived in the same time as such greatness, but in my opinion without being negative and yes we don't know what's going on in her life, that greatness of her live performances has past. She can continue to perform on stage if she so chooses, it's her life, but in my opinion I would stop. I wish you well.

A bit harsh (108,090)
by Zachariah from Croatia
| |

It's a bit harsh to say that her voice is gone, come on, have some respect. Her voice is still here, obviously with some struggles, but it is still there. Regarding the stage presence - we don't know what is she going through or if she is just catching the momentum.
Feeling sad watching her old videos? Come on, you should be happy for them and enjoy them. We were lucky to be alive in the same time as she was and be able to enjoy them and her talent.
I swear to God, sometimes I get so mad with the negativity here.

Vegas show 2025 (108,084)
by Jamie from UK
| |
|
|
She sounds ok, not sure it's making me want to go watch her again though. I've been lucky enough to watch her numerous times over the years. I'm more looking for what magic she can create in the studio these days. I hate to say it but from the clips I've seen it's made me think "give it up" and I never ever thought I would think that about Mariah. Maybe it's just the amateur clips not showing the full experience of being there. This is not me being hateful in anyway. I've always loved Mariah, but from the girl I once knew it's hard for me to hear her changed voice live. After I listened to a few clips I closed YouTube and my Apple Music kicked back in with Alone In Love playing and that's what gives me chills, the voice that was. I pray she gives us a great next album though and I'm proven wrong as she is a legend.

You are right but The difference is that Mariah is a writer, creator and a composer as well unlike Cher and she still has some music in her even if her voice can no longer support her. And I think it'd be amazing to hear what she can still create. Touring yes I'd agree one hundred percent, she needs to stop like yesterday.
I know you didn't mention Mariah Edward, but it just felt like the natural progression for this topic. One more album then she can hang up her earpiece.

I just saw that Cher is releasing her last album. She says there comes a time when the voice of no longer fit for singing, my voice is not the same. And she's trying to record the album as quickly as possible. I thought this was very honest of Cher to admit almost similar to Jon Bon Jovi admitting his voice isn't the same. It takes a strong person to admit something that is your trademark and what [you're] known for. Good luck to Cher.

Hello all, a flying visit to say a belated Merry Christmas and an advanced Happy New Year to you all. The new super audio CD of Merry Christmas by Mobile Fidelity sounds fantastic. If you have a decent hifi set up and a good pair of headphones, it's worth investing in, as personally I think it is the best the album has ever sounded. There's so many nuances to unearth, I find with each listen I'm discovering more about an album I thought I knew inside out. I only wish the debut, Emotions, Music Box and Daydream would get the same treatment one day. Love to you all.

Album sales (107,876)

I really don't think Mariah is bothered about Grammys now. If you look at the true greats they only have a handful. Where as Jay-Z and Beyoncé have swallowed them all up and for what? The pair of them have hardly a true hit between them, Beyoncé only has about 4 number ones as a solo artist and I couldn't name one number one from Jay-Z yet they both have Grammys in the thirty's. To me that's just saturation and doesn't really mean anything. Where as Mariah had all her chart accolades which really speak the truth to me.

MC could have one last great multi-platinum seller if she recorded three type of albums.
1. a duets soul and R&B cover album - early to late 70's and early 80's 2. a jazz album 3. a pop album produced by only 3 producers - Jack Antonoff, Jacob Collier, and Andrew Watt (top 20 producers of 2024).
I hope one day she can take home multi-Grammys like she should have done in 1996. It would be somerhing that would make her so happy.

Passion (107,812)
by Edward from USA

I hate to rain on your parade, but Mariah's passion for creating new music doesn't seem to be the same as it once was. Even when she talks about it, there's a noticeable lack of the excitement she used to have when she couldn't wait to share what she had been cooking up in the studio. She's far from being in the vibrant "Mimi era" energy.
She should team up with some big names like Rihanna, Beyoncé, Ariana and a few others to release a collabo album. It feels like only her core fanbase is eagerly anticipating new music from her.

I hope so Edward - fingers crossed. Though she is played much more globally, US Spotify daily charts has her on number 5 and Brenda Lee at 1 so the week after could get tough. She is number 1 on iTunes though. So she has 2 weeks confirmed this year then the next 2 it seems might be more of a battle. The NFL Netflix performance will help her for sure.
I hope she gets well soon and has a good last concert - pity she had to cancel 3.
