Top of Billboard 200 HFIA (111,675)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
In my eyes HFIA is the #1 album this week on the BB200. It's the best selling album which should be the only factor anyway. Think of how many people like me are spinning the album on CD and it's not adding to her streaming numbers. I'v played it enough times to make ten album sales just from me.
I have an idea, albums and songs shouldn't be eligible for streaming sites until they have passed 6 months in the physical and digital relm. That would be the best of both worlds, sales can still be sales and music can still be accessible especially artists' older albums. But at least eras would last six months while the artist try to increase sales. Numbers could still increase because of streaming but only after the song is six months old.

"It's one of his classics" (111,667)
by T from USA
| |
|

She was talking about the cover song that was supposed to be HFIA, she wanted to keep some of his vocals on it but didn't get permission. So instead she covered the next best guy, Paul McCartney and also wanted him on the song in some capacity but he wasn't available. My only gripe with these people not fulfilling her creative vision is that if it were Beyonce I'm sure they would all say yes. Anyway, I'm glad we got a solo My Love because it fits in line with all her other white guy covers from those decades. I don't know if I would want her Butterfly Lounge voice on an MJ classic. My Love sounds really good.

"It's one of his classics" (111,665)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

Mariah explained on Watch What Happens Live that she and Michael Jackson had collaborated on a song and Mariah said "it's one of his classics". Why can't Andy asked her back "Which song?" Didn't they learn the art of follow up questions anywhere from their career of hosting or doing interviews. Sigh.

MC is really having fun in this song. I can see Post Malone or Jack Harlow rapping a few bars on this bop. Nick didn't know what he wanted to do towards the end of their marriage. Now MC won't allow his narcissistic ways. IWAI will be the next single in January. Gamma probably will wait and drop it in January for ice skating season.

Article: Mariah Carey says music video coming for Sugar Sweet (111,653)
by T from USA

Maybe this was done during the time they did the lyric video because she says they're filming a little thing. Probably a video was in the cards but one of the artists decided she did not have the time of day to contribute. That's what I heard.

Sugar Sweet at Pop (111,649)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Sugar Sweet is still growing at Urban radio and is currently the #14 song on that format. Could even go top ten at that radio format. So I wonder why Pop radio hasn't started playing the solo version? That would be so good to get more impressions for the song.

Top 4 (111,631)
by T from USA

HFIA could've been #3 this week if that gross AI Netflix movie didn't have a soundtrack. Funnily enough if Cardi just released a week after Mariah or or a week before she originally did then HFIA would've been #2 this week. Congrats on a top 4 finish none the less.

Head scratcher (111,571)
by T from USA
| |
|

I actually see it as this is what The Elusive Art Of Letting Go album was supposed to sound like if she was more focused. That album even had Thirsty as a current sounding song like this one has Sugar Sweet. There's always going to be a bit of current R&B/pop in a Mariah album, even if the rest draws on old school influences throughout.

I actually think "Type Dangerous" works quite well as a single and in the context of the album, and it really grew on me. The "Eric B. Is President" sample helps maintain the '70s vibe because the original record by Eric B. and Rakim utilizes samples from several '70s funk songs like "Funky President" by James Brown. I believe it was recorded after Mariah and Anderson's initial sessions.
"Sugar Sweet", on the other hand, does feel out of place on the album. In previous interviews, it sounded like Mariah was reticent to include it, so maybe she did it at the suggestion of Gamma, L.A. Reid, etc. They probably pulled in the guest artists out of a desire to be more current because the rest of the album is not current at all.

I find myself humming this one the most out of all of them. I think the laid back feel is the point, it doesn't take a lot of energy to listen to it and it's just so smooth and groovy.

HFIA (111,537)
by Munny from United Kingdom

This most definitely is a farewell album. HFIA is a musical mash-up of every introspective album closer she's ever done. Melodically, it's three-parts Music Box, Looking In and The Wind. Very telling that it closes the album. Her way of saying goodbye.

Congrats Mi (111,538)

Congratulations to the two time MTV VMA winner Mariah "Mi" Carey on an album well done. I have been seeing her songs all over social media, looks like people are really happy to have her back. That's what a seven year absence will do. (Caution was only a month long blip so really people have been missing her for probably 10+ years.) "Here For It All" sounds like the album she should've made in 2013 and released on American Idol instead of the MIAMTEC project. This album is mature, grounded and twelve years too late. Imagine this album with the addition of Dedicated and #Beautiful as the first single. (Emancipation-3 anyone?) Fav songs are Mi, Play This Song, Type Dangerous, In Your Feelings, I Wont Allow It, Jesus I Do and Here For It All. Daniel Moore is the closest thing to Walter A for her, but still not anywhere near the heights of Without You, Underneath the Stars, My All. Too bad Sza isn't on this somewhere (Mi?), and maybe Silk Sonic on PTS would've added to the energy. Could've used Pharrell as well. The reviewers aren't being particularly kind to this album so I hope the sales will do the talking. This album is on par with Caution to me. I don't know which one I like better as they are vastly different. If HFIA is her swan song then I think she did it her way, and she did it well. I'm really proud of Mariah. I think it must be the hardest thing in the world to have such a vast fanbase with so many different walks of life. This album really touches on so many different genres to give something for everyone. She could've walked away after Caution and then the pandemic. But she kept thinking of making music. Her pen game is on point, her voice sounds nice and she has her integrity in tact.

I'm seeing people on other message boards asking others not to post reviews if they are not complementary to the album. And to only post the publications that give the album good reviews. What kind of free speech stifling is this? So in the future the only way to be a fan of Mariah and post on her topic in a message board is if you only state the good and none of the bad? What is going on with the world? People need to stop being dictators.

America's Got Talent finale is this coming Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. It's one of the highest rated shows in North America and it would've been nice to have one live performance on the results night Thursday September 25th right before the album drops at midnight. Singing "Here For It All" live would've been huge.

Mariah promo (111,395)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
The point I was making is, in the top 50 most viewed/rated talk shows the one that matters the most is the View, followed by the Today Show then CBS Morning show. Those other shows don't have the reach that would really help HFIA. At least she's doing one of those three.

Mariah promo (111,392)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
She's got a busy release week booked. But I notice according this rating tracker site the only shows that really matter in the top 50 rated programs are: ABC's The View, NBC's Today Show, and CBS' Morning. Mariah's only doing the CBS show out of the those top three. I wonder if she had a deal with CBS for the Vanguard Award that all promo on networks has to happen on CBS this time. Drew's and JHudd's shows are on CBS. Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson don't even make the top 50. I didn't think she would do Kelly's anyway because she usually makes her guests sing lol, and you she'd try and get some vocals. Too much pressure. But it could also be that Kelly's show is affiliated with NBC. It's a shame she couldn't do The View, as the ratings are still massive. Same with America's Got Talent surprisingly reaches 4.5 million people per episode.

Looking back on Glitter (111,370)
by T from USA

I like the idea of it being "cover heavy" as it takes the pressure of being a full Mariah Carey album for her first time out. It gives it a soundtrack feel too. I would've definitely had OHOMO make the cut. Also Lead The Way as the first single. I think after LTW went to #1 which it would've have because JLo couldn't have stolen those vocals from her, then the other singles would've fallen in place and she probably would've had about four well promoted singles in total that era. The only wildcard would've been the breakdown. If it was inevitable or just a result of LB struggling and her working extra hard to try and make it happen?

Looking back on Glitter (111,360)
by Bill from the UK

I very much agree with Glitter being botched somewhat. I remember at the time being underwhelmed by Loverboy. I love it now, but as the lead single for a much-hyped brand new beginning, it fell flat because it was so predictable. A term of endearment one word title like Heartbreaker, Sweetheart, Honey, etc., that depended on a sample from the 80s as its background music and structure, just like all the lead singles since Dreamlover. Had she launched with literally any other song on the album it would have been something new. Even though she didn't write it, I always thought All My Life was superb and would have been a great first single, but opting for a ballad (Lead the Way) would have been a good choice too. If We is my absolute favourite from the album and should have been a single too, and how she left off Out Here On My Own from the album is a mystery... maybe because it would have been a bit "cover heavy" with Last Night, Turn You On and Don't Stop. But who cares, that cover was astonishing.

After Rainbow, and the D, F, H, H, first singles maybe 2001 was the moment she should've changed it up and not been so predictable with a lesser version of a first up-tempo single (sure if the original Firecracker was released that would've been better). But maybe the first single should've been her first single ballad since Vision of Love. New label, a reset. In hindsight I would've picked Lead The Way. It's Mariah's favorite song on the album and it's arguably the best song on the album. It would've won over the general public too, and that would've had a positive effect on the movie. Second single could've been, Loverboy. Then If We, followed by Last Night A DJ Saved My Life. Glitter was the original wrong single choices album.

Sarah McLachlan vs Mariah Carey (111,308)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
So Sarah McLachlan is kind of in the same situation as Mariah Carey right now. She is 57 years old (MC is 55 years old) and she hasn't released an album for eleven years (MC is at 7 years). So the similarities are there. But that's where they end. Sarah is doing amazing interviews where she just comes across as a real human being, who has been through things, is raising teens and has been able to create a new album. She seems so likeable and relatable. Now granted, she never had the pressure Mariah had, and never reached the heights Mariah reached, but maybe something can be said for a career that was totally in one's control vs a career that was so controlled. It's a shame Mariah didn't get the freedom Sarah always had since the start. But again, then maybe Mariah wouldn't have sold 200 million albums and singles.

Mariah has been looking at the monitor ever since 2013 when she went viral for forgetting the lyrics on tour to WBT. Something happened after her fall and broken shoulder. I always suspected they gave her some serious pain killer stuff to keep her going as she is a business that just cannot turn off the lights especially in the middle of promoting an album. Maybe she got hooked on something like opioids? Maybe she still has the addiction and that is why she is being moved from spot to spot by Michael Richardson. He was also moving her around in the same fashion in 2000/2001 when she was carrying around that pink Hello Kitty boom box. We all remember how the end of 2001 went. I wonder how it will end this time.
