This is not a greatest hits project, it's a brand new studio album (110,638) by T from USA Everyone I know says the two new songs are just as good as anything in her catalogue. Even if I dare say they weren't exactly as top notch they would bite my head off. (Looking at you ukmix people.) So maybe Mariah could start this historic VMA performance with Sugar Sweet in its entirety. Bring the two girls on stage and after Shenseea's verse then transition to her hits. End with Type Dangerous. Put the songs out there to the public and let them either sink or swim, stand behind this new project. It would be cool if she gets characters from the music videos to cameo in this performance. Jerry O'Connel etc. Make this an event and make it re-watchable. I would rather her pick her top 6 music videos and have a little fun with them as opposed to the standing in one spot like the American idol performance. Yes, And (110,625) by T from USA Too bad 'Twilight Zone" wasn't the first single off Ariana's album last year and the the re-release single this April was "Yes, And" (featuring Mariah). It could've served as her first single from HFIA too. It would've went to #1 for sure. Then Type Dangerous could've been the second single to keep the momentum going. You are not allowed to state the obvious without being called all kinds of nasty things like hater, troll, etc. The same thing was happening to Whitney and we all know how that turned out. The difference is Mariah actually listens and keeps in touch with fans so there is a chance people can get through to her if they are being honest. Back to chart obsession (110,547) by T from USA Mariah sets the tone and everyone follows. That's the way it's always been when people idolize someone. About the album release, I think it was good to start the first single in early June as it gives this "era" a full six months before December and Christmas. However I would've released the album much sooner so she can take advantage of all this promo (especially the VMA's on September 7th). Here's the schedule I think would've benefited her the most: June 6th: Type Dangerous single August 1st: Champaign & Confetti (ft. Back to chart obsession (110,532) by Randy from USA Jaker for once we agree. People will love a song and then when it doesn't do well, it was a bad single choice. Mariah does it too. One of my favorite songs is Through The Rain and Mariah has bad talked that. Although during the promotional tour, she said it was an anthem. The same with Bye Bye, which I love. Mariah talks about how that was a bad single choice, but she promoted it everywhere. No one knows whether a song will be a hit because if they did, everyone would have number ones. I knew the first time I heard Type: Dangerous and Sugar Sweet they weren't hits. Cool songs. Not hits. Can I bring Adele up for the fifty million time? Why does only Adele understand that a heartfelt ballad as a lead single will go to number one because it reaches across generations and music delivery formats? I was disgusted to watch Hello make 25 go diamond and Easy on Me make 30 sell in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, and for as much as I love those two songs, I'm sitting by thinking, Mariah does ballads better than anyone. And yet she keeps churning out modern r&b. Final thought and it's still a repeat. I don't know what Mariah or Gamma thought releasing these songs so early on an album so short. Was there a plan B if the songs didn't work? Type Dangerous shoulda came out the last week of July and Sugar Sweet shoulda came out the last week of August for a September 26 release. But quiet as it's kept, I kinda think Cardi B is gonna struggle. The music audience is fickle. We will see. That's all. (Sunday 17 August 2025; 01:10)

Maybe someone is controlling her again? What happened to the Mariah that created music because she was inspired to hear her voice on the radio, or was it always about the money? "Mirage" (110,544) by Tijl from Belgium Ever since the announcement of album #16 and fresh new music I was full of excitement and anticipation. Finally a new era. This has slowly turned into apprehension with every misstep of the new album's roll out. TD was okay-ish, SS is just lackluster. So far for the songs. With every performance and interview Mariah has done there is a decline in energy. I watch with disbelief and I am worried. What is going on? In the most recent interviews she looks stiff and uncomfortable with very little more than tangents and/or gibberish uttered. Mariah used to talk passionately about her work especially when launching new material into the world. All I see now is a pale shadow of that woman. Almost as if she is not there, not feeling it, not caring one bit. The performances are not much better. Yes, she never was a dancer and doesn't need to be but of lately she just kind of stands there with more focus on the monitors (checking which bit to lipsync) than making some interaction with her audience. It fills me with sadness as I love this woman to the moon and back and her music has had a profound meaning in my life for over 20 years. Doja Cat (110,510) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter Agree. I heard of Kehlani by name but can't name a single song. I didn't know the other artist. I don't know why Mariah doesn't call her famous friends for collaborations because we know they pull through when she asks. Look at how many times Ariana came to support her. I was excited about the roll out of the era when TDang teasers started but I don't know what's the plan forward, are we getting a SS music video? Is that dead on arrival? She made 2 collaboration mistakes. Why get Mr Beast to feature in a video when it wasn't part of his contract to promote the song and why have Kehlani on a song where she refused to be featured as a main artist so that it doesn't show up on her Spotify page. She needs to be smarter with who she collaborates with. Heck even Taylor Swift roped in Sabrina Carpenter who's currently super popular eventhough Taylor doesn't need the added advantage. Album releases in the 1990's (110,466) by T from USA She released an album of some kind every year of the '90's except 1996. It would've been great if she put out Someone's Ugly Daughter in that year, then transitioned to Butterfly the next year. Mariah's voice (110,452) by Giovanni from USA We all know Mariah's voice is not what it used to be but there's still a voice there. She sounds amazing when rested and with jazz and Christmas music. What has always bothered me about the situation is that Mariah hardly ever talks about the problems with her voice. Nodules, vocal damage etc. I really think she and many others like Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys have vocal damage. Mariah might have damaged her voice by not resting her voice enough and with drinking. Mariah can do what she wants but I would always shake my head when she would have a glass of champagne in her hand because why would you destroy the gift God gave you. I'm not judging her I'm just telling it like it is. I think at this point all she can do is rest properly, stop drinking and get a vocal coach if she hasn't already. Why do you think that is? Because Taylor Swift is going to be a big part of the show this year with an album coming out. They know the ratings will be huge. How can this benefit Mariah? Well, her last album Caution was amazing but most people didn't even know she had an album out. Mariah's biggest issue is reaching people in a flooded music market now and being independent will make it even harder. However, with all eyes on the VMA's September 7th what better way to get word out about Mariah then with everyone watching. So how can we help? Easy. Daniel Moore vs. Big Jim Wright (110,404) by Lambi from USA This is fun. Daniel worked on In The Mix, Fall In Love At Christmas, Portrait, and Type: Dangerous, which I thought are all mid. I get what you mean though. I think Moore is more encouraging to Mariah about embracing her recent voice after seeing that Mimi session. I can hear him say, "It's okay, we can lower the key here." Big Jim worked on Circles, Fly Like A Bird, Cry, and It's A Wrap, which are better songs, so to me he's a better match for Mariah musically. However, Mariah's most superior collaborator will forever be Walter. I know we share this sentiment. It's like music geniuses, match made in heaven. That was God's will. All I Want For Christmas Is You, One Sweet Day, Hero, Outside, Close My Eyes, Forever, My All are unmatched. Mariah hasn't made a ballad quite the same ever since. Sugar Sweet (110,365) by T from USA One Heart One Voice was released in between the two songs and it shows how much Mariah benefits when she works with classic songwriters and producers. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but it clearly is a quality production. Maybe Mariah should've used the budget of TD and sponsored a video with Ariana and Barbra Streisand. I've been quiet ... Sugar Sweet (110,362) by Lambi from USA "Not comeback material" is correct. Both singles could've just been album cuts by Mariah's standards. Some of the non-singles from Caution felt stronger and would've made better singles if released now. These last two songs feel like they're just "good enough" not to be scrapped, but they're definitely close. It makes me wonder if Mariah is still in touch with the great songwriters of today, or if she really is just out of creative juice. Or has the overall quality of songwriters declined as well? Her top 3 collaborators, Jermaine Dupri, Manuel Seal, and Johntá Austin, are nowhere to be found. I wonder what's going on. Are they having royalty issues? Or did Mariah simply want a clean slate with fresh writers? Whatever she's doing, it's not working. Beyoncé's albums may be mid, but she chooses the right singles. Texas Hold 'Em and Cuff It were undeniable bangers and carried their entire eras, not in album sales but at least the tours. She knows how to curate a group of talented songwriters. Mariah is simply missing the mark. Happy to be proven wrong, though. Perhaps the hurt from Pat's death produced something directly from above. I know that when Mariah clings to God during catastrophic times, the melodies that arise are out of this world. Maybe the Clark Sisters gospel record is that moment. Maybe the balladeer Mariah has actually returned, because "Portrait" from Caution was not it. Still somewhat hopeful for this era, but I believe your assessments are pretty accurate. Mariah even said Sugar Sweet is everyone's favorite, so that signals to me that this was it. I assume it will sound quite varied and less cohesive than Caution which took a very short time to write and record. It seems like the album is a compilation of songs from different studio sessions during the 2020-2025 period. The collaboration with the Clark Sister was first reported back in 2021, for example. We've heard about her having an album's worth of songs in multiple interviews over the last few years, so I would assume that she could deliver some bonus tracks on the alternate editions. *fingers crossed* (Wednesday 6 August 2025; 16:14)

New music (110,251) by T from USA When Mariah did the album reveal, with the first two covers, I really got a Celine Dion mature vibe. I thought this was the next phase in her career. And it made sense because her fans have grown and are all older (with her). She had the chance to do it when she was on American Idol and had her older (mom) fanbase watching weekly. But instead she did #Beautiful, with that video and went the young pop star route again. Missed opportunity to grow and reinvent. Imagine if her whole American Idol image was geared toward being a 43 y.o. mom who has a slew of fans that are also there in life? The video for #B, then the songs that followed could've really given her career a new life. But instead songs like Thirsty and YDKWTD were on her mind. Look, it's twelve years since then and I thought after seeing the album shots that now she's embracing where she is in life. And then Sugar Sweet was released. Admittedly, it is the catchiest song she's released since Touch My Body or Shake It Off. But it does not suit her anymore. And I guess that's the hardest thing about being popular your whole career, the ability to step back and say I'm not anymore. I actually think she'd be more popular and have more success if she went the Celine Dion route and sang songs that fit a 55 year old woman with such worldly experience. I have nothing against some fun songs/lyrics but not the complete album. We all know her voice has changed but what I don't understand is, when she was so young she wrote like a grown-up person. Now she's a grown-up and the lyrics are so girly. Normally it's the opposite. Is it all to be trendy and to get to charts again? Wouldn't lyrics that are less girly not work better? Just a question, please don't get it wrong. Something funny, I didn't know what Fendi is. Lol, a luxury brand, now I know. What Virgin Records could have been for MC (110,249) by T from USA Interesting thought. I think there was more to Virgin dropping her than just an underperforming soundtrack that actually didn't do that bad. She had a song hit #2, and a top 10 album on the Billboard 200. I think it was more the way she acted around that time. She was going through a mental health crisis and nobody understood. They just saw this diva who locked themself away and didn't answer calls, stopped working mid-promo. All of it frustrated the powers that be to no end and they concluded it wasn't worth it for them. They were shielded to the real Mariah. All they saw was the Sony artist, who was polite and professional. They didn't realize how heavily controlled she was to keep her in such a tight space. Virgin EMI isn't even a label anymore since 2012, so if she did stay with them she would've been looking for a new home by the time Triumphant was released. What Virgin Records could have been for MC (110,237) by Bobby A from United States I was thinking today and wondering what MC's career with Virgin Records would have been like if they didn't buy out her 80 million dollars contract. The Virgin executives surely didn't support an established artist who had sold millions during the first ten years of her career. Just because her first album for the label didn't live up to their expectations, they decided to cut their losses and buy out her contract for 28 million dollars. Glitter was a soundtrack and not a regular album. They could have given her some grace and allowed MC to record a non soundtrack album. I am just thinking today about the "what if" with Virgin Records after 24 years. Virgin Records has other instances when they did support their artists when they were in a crisis or underperforming like Boy George, Janet Jackson, D'Angelo, and Aalyiah's family.
