The lyrics (39,755) by Sasha from Nomansland
The song is good but unfinished as most of her recent work. She said she doesn't like to be too specific in her songs, but in this case I don't think lot of people can relate to them, I was expecting something more spiritual and universal. If her demo of "Vision of love" was as messy as "The art of letting go", I'm glad they rearranged it. Anyway I bought the song, it's pleasant to listen to and it's good to hear something new and fresh from her at least.

I played TAOLG for people who aren't diehards (39,754) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I asked for their honest opinion, and didn't comment myself until they finished. The feedback was unanimously positive. "I've got goosebumps", "chills", "wow", etc. No mention of discomfort with lyrics or the arrangement. I thought it was interesting to note. The song might not become her 19th number one commercially, but it was nice to hear from people who perhaps don't dissect things as much as we do. You know what I mean? Lol.

Letting go lyrics (39,753) by Trish from USA
I'm shocked so many people like the lyrics, I think they're horrid. The first verse just sounds all over the place. The adjectives in the chorus are filler and distracting "letting go ain't easy, it's just exceedingly hurtful, 'cause somebody you used to know is flinging your world around" sounds like something a 15 year old would write in about 5 minutes. I think the second verse is okay until "go to Mimi on your contacts and press delete". Mariah said we would all relate to this song and apply our own meaning to the words, but she made it undeniablely about a relationship and put her own name in the lyrics. Mariah seems to have lost touch with what "relatable" means. Understandable, she hasn't lived in the real world in a long time, but it gets more and more discouraging with each new album and single. With this song, and Almost Home, MC has had two chances to write lyrics everyone could relate to and she just keeps missing. I really wanted a song that meant something to me, that I could turn to when I needed a spiritual moment - not something that makes me think who says "flinging your world around"?

TAOLG (39,752) by Musti from UK
I think this is a great artistic direction for her. The last part sounds like it's right out of a musical, it's so powerful. As someone else said earlier, Mariah is a storyteller in this song, the song itself barely has a recognizable chorus. In terms of style it slightly reminds me of Betcha Gon Know but TAOLG is obviously much more monumental, both musically and lyrically. Perhaps she has finally let go of releasing radio friendly singles geared towards teenagers. She has done that for 20+ years, I would be happy if she has finally evolved out of that loop. Now it's time to make legendary music.

TAOLG/ The Reason (39,751) by RadChad from United States
Actually "The Art Of Letting Go" reminds me more of Celine Dion's "The Reason" from her "Lets Talk About Love" album. The beginning and the end especially. Anyway, I'm not surprised at all from all the negative responses from some of the fans, that will always be the case whatever she releases. She'll never please everybody, so it is what it is.

Art of Letting Go discussion (39,750) by Licia from USA
I hope there won't be a lot of arguments over who's a fan and who's not because they don't like the song. It's ok for people to not like it. If you like it support it, enjoy it, and move on. No matter what she would have released, there was bound to be somebody who wouldn't like it. It's not that serious.

The Art Of Letting Go (39,749) by Myles from CT, USA
I am left feeling so empty after this mess of a song. I bought it on iTunes as I will always support Mariah. #Beautiful was such a great, well produced, pop song. The Art of Letting Go is messy, the lyrics are horrid, and I really have no desire to listen to the song again. I was rather happy to see that it did climb to #29 on iTunes! I didn't think it would go far. I still hope she does well and the album is incredible. Feeling so disappointed right now. Terrible song.

Letting Go / Trouble with Love (39,747) by Todd from Melbourne, Australia
Thank you Jamie. I've racking my brains all day. There's a chord shift that's very similar! My two cents - I personally love it, and think it's miles ahead of #Beautiful or anything in fact that she's released since WBT. It's kind of poetry with music behind it, which is great. Hopefully radio picks it up. If Adele had released this, it'd be #1 by now.

Facebook vs. YouTube (39,746) by Ryan from the Philippines
I just noticed the YouTube version of TAOLG is different from the Facebook version she posted on 11/11. The YouTube version has additional backing vocals on the last "letting go, ain't it easy". But I am just wondering, what happened to the official YouTube/Vevo audio? Why is it gone and when I open the same video from other website or blogs, it says the video is private? Weird. BTW, as I was writing this one, TAOLG is currently #32 on iTunes USA. Any updates from other countries?

The Trouble With Love Is (39,745) by Martyn from England, UK
Jamie, that's so funny you should say that, it was the first thing I thought when I heard it! I love that song. I also, dare I say it, think it sounds slightly similar to Christina Aguilera's "You Lost Me". As for the song, I'd love it as an album track, but I just don't think it's single material.

TAOLG (39,744) by Paul from USA
I'm in the middle. I really enjoyed the song immensely, but I don't think it's good enough as a single track, but it's great as an album track. I saw some posts comparing it to "Vision of Love" to which I strongly disagree. Anyways, while I didn't think the song is perfect, I'm happy to listen to anything new by her. I'll take this over an "Obsessed" or a "Touch My Body", any day. I can't wait to listen to the whole album! After reading of the comments here, some of you guys/gals have to chill. Jeez. It's alright not to like every Mimi song. I see more comments deriding the supposed "negativity" than actual negativity.

No (39,743) by Orkun from The Netherlands
This is not a good song. At all. The ending vocals and layerings are good. Kind of like "Without you". But it's not a good song. The lyrics are off and don't blend well with the melody. And yes, it does sound the Kelly Clarkson song and MC's own song "Outside". I am a fan. I don't like this song. Throw back? "Vision of love" like? No. Reviews are positive because they can't be negative about the song. Come on, it's Mariah Carey. I also don't agree with the statement that non-fans would like the song. Actually the fans are the only ones who will. Or might. After 4 years of waiting, I say not cool.

Ummm (39,742) by Tony from US
All this build up and... puh. The song isn't bad, but for me it's that album track I'd listen to once a year, but skip over to get to the next song. The first time I listened I was like meh. I listened to it again and it left a better impression. A day later, I have no real desire to hear it again. Maybe it's a grower and not a show-er. On the plus side, no screechy vocals, a good vocal actually. C-

TAOLG, message in the song (39,741) by Elena from The Netherlands
This song is how I wished for Mariah to sound like in a while. I'm happy because it's not overproduced, she sings in full voice, the lyrics are great and it allows her to play with it in any way she wants which is perfect because the way she sings a song decides weather the song is good and she is the queen of catchy adlibs. When doing this live I can imagine her playing with this song vocally, like she does with Vision Of Love. I think she really took note from her first albums and maybe even Adele, who brought back stripped down soulful ballads. The build-up in the song is how it's supposed to be. As a fan I really do not care if this will be a chart topping single. She is heading into the direct direction in her craftsmanship and I respect her for that. As for the message in the last sentences of the second verse some have been speculating about, the words that she's asked her fans to listen closely to: "Go to Mimi in you contacts, press delete." Maybe she means that she is letting go of her Mimi-era and this will be a whole fresh new start in her career with a new married life!

The Trouble With Love Is (39,740) by Jamie from UK
Anyone notice the similarities with TAOLG and this Kelly Clarkson song from 2003. Maybe she sampled Kelly's song.

Badr / signature / comparisons (39,739) by Will from Australia
Badr, I said not WBT part 20, duh it sounds nothing like it and I welcome the change. No chance in hell will this become a signature song, unless it's a signature of where artistically she lost her groove. Put simply, this is the worse lead single to an album launch she's had, even Loverboy and Obsessed offered more. But I do like the song, but it's more that I love Mariah rather than it even coming close to the standards she has set high.

Art Of Letting Go (39,736) by DivergentIntel from United States of America
It's not bad. Mariah's capable of better, but this is an ambitious effort. So I accept it. The song will grow on me eventually I'm sure. I already remember the lyrics word for word lol.

Stop comparing it to WBT (39,735) by Blake from USA
OK seriously I love it. It's refreshing and it's a story telling memoir. It's the kind of song that grows on you but her non-whispery vocal is flawless and I don't care if it isn't repeating the same ol' cookie cutter chorus. It's what radio needs now. I'm tired of Katey Perry, Goo Goo Gone, Lady Gaga, Rhianna. Same old sh*t. This is far from WBT. Welcome back Mimi and for the haters, go to Mimi in your contacts, press delete. Thank you.

Um, almost but much love is felt as well as pain released (39,734) by Joyce from USA
A revelation of the deep hurt that lingered within Mariah like confused, lost and bitter ghosts, unwilling to leave the empty and lonely corridors of her broken and abandoned heart. Pain was an anchor, too heavy to break free from, until true and unconditional loves light came to set her free from darkness with the love flooded into her by her children and husband. Louise Miguel, whom devastated her heart and trashed all happiness with loves disaster of the heart, the hurricane of a heartbreak. The pain slowly became eclipsed by the reality of living day to day life in her new marriage and exceedingly by the love for her until all of those angry, bitter, hurt and lost ghosts - aspects of herself, no longer felt trapped and were able to fly away. At first I felt uncomfortable listening to this because so much time had passed since she had been married and even much more time had passed since her heart was devastated by Mr. Miguel, especially as it's written as if it was just a few short years ago. But I know songs are like movies and television shows, so much is for theatre - for the songs sake and less emphasis to the historical accounts. I look forward to re-mixing this in garageband.

I love the song but... (39,733) by Randy from USA
It's not a hit. And I hate being negative when MC gives us what we want. That's why I'm not tripping. It's deep lyrics and introspective. I don't care about a #1. Firstly, let's look at the state of the music industry. Celine released a pop-friendlier song that didn't chart on the Hot 100 at all. Secondly, MC used three syllable words. So not, Blurred Lines. The biggest issue I have with the song, and you all are going to crucify me for this, she will not be able to sing this live so I'm expecting more smoke and mirrors. But I do love the song.

A total surprise and everything makes sense (39,731) by Victor from Costa Rica
I'm more than pleased. This is art people. Stop judging the song and enjoy the emotional ride that comes with it. I was surprised at the begining because I wasn't expecting the way she started singing, but then I understood why the song was made that way. She is a storyteller, and she should remove feelings from it in order to let us know relate to the story and not the voice. Then a little breaks comes and it's when she relates to it and the powerful voice is released. This will be a classic and her future signature song. It moved me, I enjoy listening her struggle and that she realizes about the issue she has. I totally approve this song and believe in her and this song.

The Art of Letting Go (39,730) by Lyric from USA
The song is not catchy enough for radio because there is no clear chorus. The verses are wordy and dull, the production is boring. I think Mariah needs to re-think some things. The best part of the song was the buildup at the end. At the end of the day, I would like to see the song be successful for her so hopefully it can do well on the charts despite it all.

TAOLG advocate (39,729) by Badr from USA
"WBT part 20"? It sounds nothing like "We Belong Together" or anything she's ever done. It actually reminds me of "Vision of Love", and I think this is how she had wanted it to sound. Back to TAOLG, I have absolutely no objection. I don't understand why some people complain about the "lack" of a "hook". She's experimenting with the structure of her songs, trying it to make it more poetic and leaving behind the typical form of popular songs.
