Type: Dangerous (109,784)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
I like Type Dangerous (The Remix of the Gods) because it felt nostalgic to listen to those voices again. I don't listen to a lot of rap music, but I remember in high school my cousin and best friend did. So I recognize those voices. I wish they would have included her second verse, though. It's a remix, who cares if it's a little long?

Type: Dangerous is like Touch My Body. It's a little superficial but fun. That's what the general public likes, apparently. TMB sold a ton. I'm sure the new album will have more robust material on it. I wish we had a release date.

I don't think Mariah comes across well on T.V. appearances, though. (Except to the lambs.) Everyone asks her the same boring questions that we've all heard a hundred million times over the years. Or they're shady to her, like Oprah was when she interviewed her about her book when it was released. If the interviewer is shady to you, it kind of makes you look bad to the audience. IMO. Especially potential new fans who haven't heard of her. I do want to hear from her but from her own platform. Tell us what you want us to know. Make blogs for us, or vlogs.
I think a better marketing strategy would be to feature her songs on popular shows or movies. But good songs and on well written shows or movies. Mariah's songs speak for themselves. We've all experienced watching a movie or show and the song perfectly encapsulates the moment and you're bonded to that moment from then on. One example I can think of is the song Breathe Me by Sia, which was featured in the series finale of Six Feet Under.
Or have young beautiful people with storylines in her videos (with inserts of her singing in glamour poses if she wants). For example: Beauty School Dropout was supposed to be sung by Elvis so she could wear an Elvis-esque jumpsuit (like the one Britney Spears wore when she was promoting Live From Las Vegas) and recreate the video. Walking down the white stairs and there can be a beautiful young up-and-coming actress with pink hair paying Frenchie. I'm imagining the young Queen of Hearts actress from the Descendants movie.
I mean, not that exactly, but something like that.

Unpopular opinions (109,667)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
1.) Boy (I need you) has grown on me over the years. 2.) I'm not super optimistic about MC16 being a success. (But I'm pretty sure I'll personally enjoy it.) 3.) I think she should drop Hero and We Belong Together from performances like the Summertime Ball and instead do album tracks that should have been hits. 4.) I know Touch My Body is super popular but I don't really like it. My young coworker (born in '99) asked me to make her a MC playlist. A few months later she came back and reported she only liked Fantasy, Honey, and Touch my Body. 5.) I really like Did I Do That? I think it's catchy and kinda funny.

Unpopular opinions (109,657)
by Haiji from United States

Regarding only songs or albums, what are some unpopular opinions you all got? "Hero" still hasn't grown on me yet. "Thank God I Found You" was not #1 worthy and based on how many song I listen to from each album, Caution is my least favorite.

Dangerous | three hating ass heauxs - they don't know the meaning of water nor soap (109,633)

The third hatin' ass ho looked like Salma Hayek to me when she was on the Mexican telenovela Teresa. But Salma Hayek doesn't seem like a hatin' ass ho, so it's probably a coincidence.

Type: Dangerous | three hating ass heauxs - they don't know the meaning of water nor soap (109,630)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End

Well, at least one of just might be JL according to Wendy Williams.
The gist of it is that when JLo came to the radio station for an interview, her people had told Wendy's people that there was no direct eye contact allowed with Jennifer Lopez - which Wendy went right ahead and completely disregarded. (Echoes of Tommy Motorboater.)
The second point was that her people had asked for the bathroom to be cleared meaning nobody goes in and out as long as JLo was at the station. So Wendy had one of her interns guard the bathroom and actually stood on the toilet and would push the door shut (if anyone attempted to enter) until it was JLo's turn to actually use it. And after JLo used said bathroom, they discovered she hadn't washed your hands. I'm guessing probably both the water and soap were untouched meaning not a drop in the sink. Wendy reiterated that it was all true several times as the audience went off in disbelief. It happened probably two decades ago but Wendy first said it on her tv-show in 2011.
Ever since I randomly remembered this Wendy episode, my list of the 3 hating ass hoes referenced in T:D - that don't know the meaning of water nor soap - has dwindled down to:
1. JLo 2. Jenny, From The Block 3. Jennifer Lopez
These things make me happy. Idc.

Heavy songs (109,602)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
Jaker20, I think Portrait on Caution is heavy so she'll do at least one. Languishing from Memoirs is heavy. Most of yall hate it but Memoirs to me is the closest follow up to Butterfly. I remember Mariah saying in the promos for Glitter, I'll never abandon my ballads they are a part of me. We will get something heavy on the new album. Any word on an album title yet? Dangerous? No MJ did that. Overhead Lighting? Anniversaries? Hey, it's one word. Beauty School Drop Out? The Reinterpretation of Mimi? How about, The Mimi Theorem, a2 + b2 = c2? Maybe, Mariah Nunez? Me. I'm Still Mariah. The Songbird Supreme. Ok ok I'll stop,

Thank you for the news, I appreciate it.
It would be great to have circa 14 songs but 12 is still ok. I hope the new single will be a bigger hit than Type Dangerous, which I love as well, but I think is was really more oriented towards us, the real fans who stuck around.

Appreciate the mediating spirit Bobby A. You are truly a godsend. Keep it up. Everyone's allowed to have opinions of course but everyone is also responsible for their opinions. The lesson here is you can't just say ridiculous things and expect not to be called out on it. It's good to be the adult in the room to snap toddlers back to reality. Therefore members aren't just spewing disrespectful unhinged remarks like, "Her voice is so shot us board members probably sing Hero better than her now." Words have meaning and a reprimand was warranted.

Christmas snow globe (109,531)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
I just wanted to share, since I wasn't here when it came out, I was so disappointed with the Mariah Carey snow globe last year. I feel like I waited years for one to be available and when it finally came, it was Wish quality. It was almost as bad as the Galinda Hallmark ornament. Fingers crossed that at some point they'll offer a better quality one. (I didn't buy it and I don't regret it.)

More thoughts (109,523)
by Dove from United States

I get what everyone is saying about how it could have been more on par with Tell Him (which is also really cheesy btw). A small part of me was hoping for that too.
(Side-note: In high school my choir sang Tell Him as one of our concert songs. Even back then I thought it was super cheesy but I wanted to go on the choir trip to Disneyland and that's why I joined choir in the first place. That's one of the few Barbara [sic] Streisand songs I had ever heard, but it wasn't her singing it. It was some really bad singers who record the demos for choir classes. I had a religious experience listening to a string of Barbara [sic] Streisand songs earlier today, though.)
Anyway, maybe Mariah can't sing like that anymore. If she could, she probably would have. But she can still sing and she can still write. Taylor Swift is one of my favorite artists and she has practically no range. Her songs have made me feel the entire range of emotions. It's not over for MC. She needs to trust herself. After 35 years in the game she's a master songwriter too. Lullaby's of Birdland was sung in her current voice and I love it. Whenever it comes on my Mariah playlist it makes me smile.

One Heart, One Voice (109,516)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
It's on par with the Tony Bennett duet. Not every song is going to be extraordinary. I'm just happy she's still recording, she's still trying. She doesn't have to make these songs at all. It's cheesy like Hero, but I'm okay with that.
I played it on Amazon Music today and then a bunch of Barbara [sic] Streisand hits played afterwards. I had no idea what an emotive singer BS was. I never cared to really listen to her before.
I also had the thought after hearing this song that the songs that WA writes are kind of generic. MC really did add the sprinkle of magic.
It made me think about a David Foster concert I watched on YouTube. He had amazing singers performing on it but it felt a little generic and dated. I'm glad Mariah went in a different direction and didn't stay locked in to the 90's power ballads.
I don't mind that One Heart, One Voice is understated. She has plenty of songs where she belts. I appreciate it for what it is. I don't think it's meant to be a hit and I'm sure Mariah knows that too.
Honestly, I'm rarely disappointed with the music that MC puts out. Even if at first I don't like it, eventually at some point it'll grow on me.

I used to come on here a looong time ago and I still think about you guys sometimes. No one posted their pictures back then so I had my own mental image of what everyone looked like. Bill was one of my favorites, but in my mind he looked like the dad from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. So when I saw that handsome face I was just super surprised. If I was still young enough to have kids, I would totally have a kid for you Bill. Smart, funny, kind, and handsome? That’s rare.
